My family is not very savvy with computers/phones.
my mom has a Samsung galaxy S4 from a while ago and had her email setup for her on the phone (outlook/Hotmail). however, she has forgotten her password and cannot reset it because (stupidly) she had set the alternative email address to be of another email account that she has no access to!
The emails work fine on the phone though.
question is, is there a way to extract the email password on the phone? is there another way to change the email password without knowing the original password (i.e password reset)?
thank you.

Anyone get their hotmail account to sync up the their transformer email app? I didn't have any problems with any other email address just my 2 hotmail accounts
I've tried the POP
POP3 server - pop3.live.com
Port - 995 (you can also try 110)
Security type to - SSL
Touch Delete email from server if you want to change this option.
SMTP server - smtp.live.com
Port - 587 (you can also try 25)
Security type to - TLS
Require Sign in should be checked.
I can't get it to get verify incoming port, always fails on username password
Also I tried the Exchange Settings
Domain\Username: Clear out and put in your full hotmail address
Password: if not pre-filled, obviously put in your hotmail password
Server: m.hotmail.com
Check "Use Secure Connection (SSL)"
No luck on it either, doesn't seem to find the server.
Anyone find a method that works for hotmail?
Works fine for me for my msn email account, I dont remember doing anything special either.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
is your account hotmail "plus"...the one you can pay so you can have POP service?
also if you had hotmail for a long time (i think is more than 3 years), hotmail will grandfather your account to included POP for free..
Yeah, its got pop support, I've had it syncing fine on my droid and my gtab, but can't get it to go with on the transformer for some reason.
I have just a normal '@hotmail.com' (not a plus account) account. It works fine with that. Seemed to detect all the settings for me automatically.
Thats whats weird, is just inputting my user name and password in the add email account, get the warning setup could not finish, cannont connect to server and lights up the manual button.
Tried both pop and exchange settings, neither connects. This is the first device I've had problems with this. Does the same thing for both of my accounts, getting frustrated.
Don't know if this will help you or not but I've just checked the settings on mine. In the incoming settings section, the server it checks is 'm.hotmail.com' and it's using a secure socket layer (SSL) connection. 'Accept all SSL certificates' is unchecked. Good luck.
I got this fixed. It ended up being my password. I use Keepass on my computer and for android so it just uses randomly generated passwords. They worked fine on everything else but not this. Was getting fed up with the username/password not correct warning went in and changed it to something simpler and it finally connected.
Then took a couple of tries to get a new password out of keepass that would work, but finally got it. My guess is it wasn't liking the length?? I don't know but I'm up and running now.
I added an my work email to my phone (exchange account). After filling out all the credentials it notified me that in order to be able to access this account I need to authorize Exchange server permissions to be able to remotely wipe my phone in case it is lost. If I remove the account from my phone does that mean that my employer still has the capability to access my phone? Is there still some security certificate or permissions that I need to get rid of?
Ok to get rid of the PIN issue I did a factory reset on my Gear S3 which solved that problem. But now, even though in the Email application within the Samsung Gear App I have the corporate email account turned off, my Gear has prompted my a couple of times that to get corporate email I have to set a PIN because of our AD policy... is there a way to "turn this off" / remove the corporate email account from the email application so I don't get prompted to set a PIN or am I just going to have to live with this and just ignore the prompt when it comes up?
The problem is your phone , if you remove the corparate account from there then no pin issues. I use corporate email and only when i pickup the watch from the charger it asks for a pin

I was afraid that was going to be the answer.. so since I need to have the email on my phone I will just have to live with the PIN prompt.. thanks...

Try a different email app on your phone. I use Nine, and it works great for my work's Exchange email. It doesn't have the same security issues as other email programs., like the built in Samsung/android on. I never have issues with my watch and PIN prompts, and I do get notifications and emails from Nine on the watch.

I second highlordkram's recommendation on using Nine for corporate email. I have used it for over a year and find it to be an excellent program to manage email. It plays very well with the S3, easy to read, mark read, delete emails from the watch, no PIN prompt.
I 3rd Nine. Excellent replacement for corporate email.
For all those suggesting another application my question to you would be does your current Active Directory policies requires your phone to have a PIN to lock the phone if you get your corporate email to it? that is what caused my Gear S3 to need a pin...
