been searching for system/priv-app folder but can only find system/app. i'm using file explorer on a rooted galaxy tab 7.7.
1. can i install trebuchet.apk to system/app folder?
2. or can i create new folder - system/priv-app and place the apk there.
been searching for the forum but can't find no related topics. can a benevolent someone lead me to the right directions?
Yeah move it to sys/app, also set correct permissions 644 and owner/group to root..

I flashed Cyangenmod 7.1 RC, flashed Frank's Mod to remove all CM7 apps, flashed dark launcher theme.
I copied DSPManager.apk to SDcard prior to flashing Frank's Mod. But it says it can't be installed.
Is there a way to install DSPManager again?
Thanks!
You have to install it back to system/app folder and set permissions if using root explorer or adb push it back. Just hitting install will not do it.

Thanks for the reply.
But how do I do that?
I moved the apk file to system/app, changed Permission (selected RWX for owners) but it still won't install.
It won't let me change permissions at all inside sdcard.
Instructions for installing apk with root explorer:
1. navigate to file and copy apk
2. navigate to system/app
3. tap on r/w at the top
4. paste all apk
5. change permissions to match the other apks's in the system/app directory.
6. Reboot
My device is Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. I've tried Task ROM and now the AOKP ROM on it. I found the same problem on both ROMs.
What I have been trying to do was changing the permissions of a .ini and a .sh file in /data/data/some app folder/ after I modified the files. I used ES File Explorer to change the permisions of those two files from rw-rw-rw- to r--r--r--. But after making the change, I found myself still able to edit them and save the changes. How can this happen? Am I doing anything wrong?
**found them! ignore message***
Hi,
Anyone have the files below for d/l for the [4.4.2][Sense 5.5][3.10.401.4][Stock] from tr1gg3r84 ?
Calendar.system.apk & calendarProvider.system.apk
I deleted them by mistake and now sync does not work.
Regards,
Ramsey
Just extract .zip of the rom on pc and you should find in system/app your missed apps. Copy on phone storage and use Total comander, copy them in system/app on your phone, then set permissions to rw-r-r and you are done
Hey guys,
Im having issues copying apk files to the system/app folder, I have tried three different file managers(root browser, root explorer, file explorer). I mount system set it to r/w and when i try to copy or move the apk file i get operation failed/ cannot copy file. I tried copying the same apk (motogallery) to my nexus 7 (android 5.0) it worked fine. However with my nexus 5 its a no go. I'm running stock lollipop rom with root.
Thanks
edit: figured it out had to copy apk to priv-app folder instead of system/app. Strange on the nexus 7 file was copied to system/app and worked just fine.
You need: ROOT - File Explorers (I Prefer using ES File Explorer) good heart, determination, and Pray First.
after googling the solution for this, i found the tutorials on other sites useless.
i have the situation that i deleted important system apps like android system webview, email, and exchange services.
it was a bit late when i found that those apps are responsible for your browser, messages and other internet dependent apps to run. without this systems apps you cant open your apps and they will automatically force close.
for this to be fixed you need to mount the apk files back to /system/app partition. but other ppl have the problem that their apps wont install. i found that the reason behind this are the permissions and the way you copy/cut things.
for example i have my Email.apk on sd card and cut then paste it to my system/app. u cant do it just like that because the apk will lose its icon and the apk will not install after reboot.
here's how i did it.
Open ES file explorer. configure the root permissions, mount r/w
navigate to where the apk file is then copy it to the root of your internal storage.
next you must rename it to its package name (for example i have "Email.apk" i use the properties option on ES F.Ex to know what is the package name and i got "com.android.email-1.apk"
before you can move this apk file to your /system/app. you must configure the permission of the folder for the app icon to stay
i set the permission folder of /system to rwx r-x r-x
then for /app rwx rwx rwx.
you can now paste your apk to /system/app
after that set the permission of the apk to rw- r-- r--
after that reboot your device. pray. and you will see the app back on your menu. Congrats! ))))))))
(do the same if you have encountered it with .odex files) cheers!
XDA Assist is not the place for this post.
