VR kit! - Nexus 9 Accessories

Hello,
Why is this dead think? Why is not discussions about VR opened? So, noone wants cardboard or VR kit for Nex9?
I cant find it!

It's a bit too big for most/all of people's heads and it's not ergonomic at all... That and to get a decent amount of immersion, you wouldn't need that large of a screen since your eyes would only be a 1"-1.5" away.

I think they will have to make one as soon as the space between your eyes is more than 3 inches. :cyclops::cyclops:

Any way?

With some other glasses probably yea (I am not sure which exactly, cuz I'm not that much into this VR stuff) , but with cardboard not.

haha, but actually they can just make an VR app that doesn't take the entire screen but only the center area that a normal size cardboard can cover, but how to stick the cardboard to the center of the big screen nexus 9 is another problem

Basically you are right about the app that uses a part of the scren but imagine how is the 9 inch tablet going to look at your face. Its not impossible, its uncomfortable.

suitable phone to use as a futuristic wrist mounted computer?

ive always wanted a futuristic looking wrist mounted computer system, like the ones you see in futuristic films. now with small touch screen android phones like the ZTE blade and samsung apollo/galaxy 3 i think it might be possible.
the dimensions are about right to fit as a touch screen computer on a wrist: 55mm wide, 12mm thick.
but i want it to be funtional for every day use, not just a gimmick. I was wondering if anyone knew any way to link 2 phones together so that text messages sent to my HTC desire HD will appear on the screen of my wrist mounted phone, like on the sony liveview? and incoming calls will appear on the wrist phone?
i would be able to tether my wrist phone to my desire HD by wifi to use the 3g, (i only want to use 1 sim card, the one in my desire hd) but i cant think of anyway to do what the sony liveview did and display caller ID, emails and text messages from the desire to the wrist? any ideas?
EDIT: ive just found this. this summarises exactly what i want to do with a phone, with pictures.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/09/general-dynamics-gd300-is-the-pip-boy-that-runs-android/
does anyone think it is possible? and anyone know a way to link it to my desire HD so texts, phone calls and emails show up on the wrist phone as well?
Why not just get a Android cell phone watch?
Or a smart watch which connects via bluetooth
ive not seen any, can you name some or link to them? ive been looking, but not found any. the only one ive seen was the sony liveview.
ive seen some watches that have limited intergration, with a little 4mm high 8 character scroller behind the watch hands, but i really want something full blown ridiculous and actually useful.

Unfortunately i'd have to say i agree... where i live in the UK it would just be a painted target for someone to rob you
It would be super nerdy but that's why I think it would be awesome. I live in the uk too, and I know I could get robbed but still. I just think it would be awesome, in a very nerdy way.
Generally I am very nerdy, I wear t shirts of games merchandise, have pac man as my ring tone, have an xbox in every ripon of my house.... I have a spartan helmet from halo as my belt buckle.
in still gonna do it, I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to link the phones.
U can use the Google voice app to link sms.
Thank you bling, very helpful.
Now I just need a way to link caller id.
I should just be able to put my google if on the watch phone and pick up my emails in either my main phone or the watch?
Just sellotape your regular Android phone to your arm.
Job done.
Yes. I have my google account on both my n1 and g-slate and whenever i get an email it pops up on both.
yay looking forward to the wrist cancer this will cause
Why is this so 'new'?
It think it's already possible.
Some tape, a nice phone. voila!
It would be nice, but a normal phone of these days would have a too big screen for my taste.
I've a bluetooth-watch, its freakin' awesome!

I don't think its a new concept, just that previously it wouldn't be possible due to the high price of touchscreen phones.
Now that I can get an android handset for 50 quid I think its a viable idea.
I was gonna use one of those exercise arm band cases to hold it on my wrist rather than tape, but same idea.
I wish the nokia x6 ran android, that phone has the perfect dimensions for my wrist.
At the moment it looks like it might be the zte blade aka san francisco, or the samsung galaxy 3. Both are slim and light and cheap to buy.
Also saw the motorola flip out earlier for 50 quid, but I think its too big.
Fossil Meta watch. $200.

Worst thing that it lacks altogether? The metal backed on is a FULL metal backed device....like the Prime, meaning that it will also lack WiFi range.....and probably BT range as well...

I would liked to have thought that ASUS would have been able to steer away from the Prime's signal reception debacle. Good find, for I had overlooked that "detail". Aside from the rather modest specs, then, we possibly also have a dysfunctional device.
I must admit I *am* interested in the ViVoTab Smart -- full Windows 8 (so not the RT version).... We'll see. Even if I get my hands on that (or another similar) device, I will keep the 70 around for a long while to come. (I recently started dabbling in Android 'programming' via AppInventor, which needs a full-blown OS -- that's why I'm eyeing Win8 tablets. I detest Windows 8 RT.)
Please we need a root for this

The correct question would be: why would anyone of us be interested in this? To put it simply, going from a Full HD screen to a HD screen is just too painful.

Bought one for my wife. Works great, runs smooth does everything she wants and best of all its a 10" for $100 over a 7 inch. It also doesnt have the IPS setting for outdoor or the Gorilla glass.
Its a fine device just a lower cost alternative to a $500 unit.
She went from nothing to the lower than TF700 resolution so she doesnt notice it at all.
Adding:
I should add that I ran quadrant on the store demo and the benchmarks panned out as one would expect:
HTC One X
TF700
TF201
"Your Device"
then the big drop to the other samsung/google etc.. products. So its just below performance of my 201 but as I said, for my wife she loves it and can't quit playing angry birds and surfing the web! She hasnt opened her laptop once in 2 days and she couldnt stay off the thing.

I have this tablet and see no issues with it. so the screen resolution is not "retina-like". and its only has 1gb of ram.. who cares..the human eye can only pick up so many colors..anything more is just overkill. I wanted a good mid range tablet to surf the net and watch videos. This works perfectly. If i need something more powerful i will go to my desktop. If i need to watch "full hd" i will go to my 50inch tv...how much hd do u need on a 10" screen?

If it suits you that way don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
But if you truly believe you can't see the difference between 1280x800 and 1920x1200, put a Tab 2 and a TF700 besides eachother on the same image. I'm working on my mum's tab 2 atm, there are blurs on all the letters! The anti aliacing is horrendous!
I'm searching to buy the original OTG, if someone have one.
I just stole all the asus apps from one for the next CROMI There are 6 additional asus apps. Altough they are fairly simple. Artist, Studio, PinPal, Sticky Memo, Story and To Do List
Looks like a good budget device to me.

Disappointed.. :(

Just received my Nexus 5 and am quiet disappointed with it.
The sound is OK, not as loud as my S3 but OK
The screen is very nice, but quiet a lot of display is used by the 'buttons'
Comparing side by side to the S3, the S3 seems to display more page.
Anyone have any comments or thoughts on this ?
Any way to get access to more of the screen without rooting it ?
Thanks

Not much you can do without root.
But if you do decide to root (use the guide in my signature) you can use pie controls or install a custom ROM/xposed module which will allow you to change the size of the navbar.

I was unhappy about the sound aswell, I rooted purely to install a sound mod that increases the volume greatly, and it doesn't have any distortion problems at all, see here.

PROS:
It's a decent price
It gets updates quick
It's fast
Camera takes decent pics in as long as nothing is moving
Design is good
CONS:
The cameras slow focus makes it next to impossible to take pictures of my new puppy.
The sound seems fine to me for speaker calling, for music not so much but who listens to music like that. I picked up a bluetooth speaker and use that anytime I want to listen to music sounds 10 times better than the speakers on any phone.
The screen size is good, the Galaxys are too big IMO feels like I'm using a mini tablet. I have the white version I don't care for the shiny edges but when my Nexus case comes I won't see them anyways.
My only other gripe other than the camera is I can't get an otterbox for it that's not the phones fault though.
Overall I'm happy with it for the price.

Why? Did you not do any homework at all prior to purchasing this phone? Are you not familiar with Nexus devices at all?
I'm so tired of these people who drop a few hundred bucks and don't even know what they're buying. It's not like the navbar is some kind of huge secret that people are discovering for the first time. It's a fundamental part of the Nexus experience, and there are plenty of other phones you could have purchased that don't have it. Complaining about the navbar on a Nexus phone is like jumping into a pool and then complaining that it made you wet.

Well, there's no need to flame hard, but with all the people complaining about the N5's drawbacks...seriously? On-screen buttons? Remember what forum this is; literally all the ROMs have features to use full Immersive Mode, enable PIE, or decrease button size. Go and have a flashing day.
It's no big deal if you can use PIE or hide it or make it smaller; it's definitely something I can live with. I can't live with the ****ty perf of the S4 or the big big big bezels on the HTC One though. Worth it if you ask me...
@albert_htc these problems can be resolved by flashing custom ROMs and kernels, as well as Mods only if you're familiar with rooting and unlocking your bootloader

The navbar is not a "problem." It's an intentional feature of the device. There are mods you can flash to remove it, but they're not "solving" a problem - they're modifying or removing a feature that was intentionally included in the stock phone.
Once again, this is a standard Nexus feature that has been included in every Nexus phone and tablet that has been released since the Galaxy Nexus. This is not new, and it's not a "problem." The only problem is that there are apparently a bunch of people out there who refuse to educate themselves before plunking down hundreds of dollars on a gadget that is clearly not for them.

Wireless keyboard?

I'm learning Java and python for fun right now and have been steadily trying to find more ways to code on my phone instead of on the computer. However, the onscreen keyboard for the s4 takes up top much space, so I'm in need of a physical keyboard. I'd like most to find something that holds the phone onto the keyboard but everything I see on Amazon looks super cheap. Thoughts?
this is the one I use from Logitech. I use it on my Win7 PC, GS4, and iPad. Has bluetooth buttons to swap between everything.

Normally it is cover for keyboard, when you take it off it could be holder. For me, in horizontal view I have to put something under this cover, so it would be little higher (it is ideal for tablets, not for smartphones). In vertical it is ideal for smartphone too.

You can make out the pixels in certain content, I noticed that streaming sometimes improves as the video progresses. You can certainly notice the difference between good quality content and not so good quality content.
I will tell you that its pretty damn good compared to most other VR that I've tried though.
Silly question but did you play with the focusing wheel at the top? also make sure its a tight fit and try moving the headset around on your head as it might not be sitting perfectly in front of your eyes.

I did try several contents, but its also the Userinterface which is not clear to my eyes.
And yes, I did try the wheel, but I dont mind silly questions, I'll try to move with my head!
was playing with this, the effect is amazing its just the resolution aint the best some of the content is just very bad , i tried the cinema and that was really amazing experience the seats next to you seem so real, i can only imagine when quality is like what we get with 1080p on tv screen then it would be something id probably watch movies on , this just seems the beginning , cant wait till it gets better
I have had a gear VR since the early developer edition for the Note 4. The new Gear VR supplied with the S7 is a great improvement. But I am afraid the resolution will always be a bit fuzzy, as essentially you are viewing the screen very close to your eyes and then magnified. You will see the pixels like you would if you used a magnifying glass against the screen. It's the limitations of the technology mostly and this is why I was hoping for a 4K screen on the S7 this time around as that would improve things a lot, as would some of the movies being shot in a higher resolution.
As a side note remember to wipe your phone screen as clean as possible before inserting into the VR and make sure that you do not touch the lenses as you do so. Any greasy smudge (or fibre from a cloth) will impair the viewing.
In my opinion, considering how relatively cheap the Gear VR is and how much content is available which continues to grow, it still is a fantastic experience overall. Samsung have got the ball rolling and we can only expect this technology to improve.
.
blah, I gotta wait for my Gear VR to come in

I have had a gear VR since the early developer edition for the Note 4. The new Gear VR supplied with the S7 is a great improvement. But I am afraid the resolution will always be a bit fuzzy, as essentially you are viewing the screen very close to your eyes and then magnified. What is this great improvement that you speak of? I also have the developer edition for the S6. My Gear VR for the S7 is coming in tomorrow...

I don't know what the S6 developer edition is like. I am comparing the original Gear VR "developer edition" that was released with the Note 4, to the ones that are now shipping with the S7, so you personally may not see too much difference. But it's lighter, less bulky, has better ventilation, more comfortable padding, a micro usb port for charging on the go and is compatible with various galaxy phones now.

I wish I could post the video of my wife using it for first time absolutely brilliant stuff. But she won't let me. Even used the word divorce. She was trying the Jurassic world demo and it was worth it just for that.

Yeah, similar one here mate. My Mrs said, "oh boys with toys", but then she started using it and her face was a picture, huge cheesy smile
Just let my old man have a go and even he figured out how to play it and said it was literally like looking at the future.
The best way I can explain it is that is essentially like being literally in one of the lawnmower man simulations!

Okay I found the vrse app but when I open it nothing is shown. Just an open "world" and the vrse logo...

That's exactly what I thought. I was watching a 360 videoand the quality was crap. After a minute it looked great!
How do you view your own video and photos ?
It says to view your own photos and video they should be in the gallery which they are but oculus library is empty ?
Thanks
