Stop messaging app converting texts to MMS - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The Samsung message app converts long messages to MMS which ends ends up costing me. Can this be switched off? The Hangouts messaging app doesn't do this but I prefer the look of the Samsung app (personal preference).
Does anyone know how to stop the Samsung app from converting long messages to MMS?

Other than using a different app, nope.

Really? There's no way to switch this feature off?? That's very disappointing.

unable to send/receive text messages some times

Everyone once in a while, I'll be unable to send messages out and I'll notice that I'm not receiving any. Is this related to the issue where people are not receiving phone calls on the Mes I've heard about? Once I reboot, it seems to work again but then the cycle repeats.
I'm on the Heinz's latest build
Did you check your contacts numbers? If there is a + sign in front, it can cause issues

Also do you have MMS? If you're SMS app is set to convert long SMS to MMS and you don't have MMS, you'll run into problems.
nope. no + in my phone numbers and no, the messages arent long. I do have unlimited MMS to so it shouldnt matter anyways.
Have you tried a different SMS app such as GO SMS or Handcent?

Google Voice and Text Problem

Hey, I was previously running a Tbolt with Google voice and the txt messages worked fine through my data plan. I started using it on my G3 and just checked my usage through Verizon and I am way over my txt messages.. It seems Google voice is not using my data..
Why are the Google Voice TXT using my Verizon messages?

What are you using to send the text messages? Gvoice or your default text messaging app? Might seem like a stupid question, but I just want to be sure before I (might) point you in the wrong direction...
Google Voice SMS messaging has always added to my Verizon text message tally, not fallen under my data plan.

You guys are doing something wrong. I have been using GV for texting for years and I have never used a VZW text. In fact I don't even have a texting plan. The trick is you have to use the GV app for texting. You can't use your built in Messaging app. Any messages sent or received using the stock Messaging app will be counted as a VZW text.
It kind of sucks since my car supports voice to text but it only works with my stock messaging app. I wish someone would make a way to make the GV app the default app and some how make it be a direct replacment so that anything that is Text aware will use GV instead of Messaging.

Good point, I should qualify my prior post.
I've always used Google Voice for SMS on my Incredible, but also had Google Voice settings allow for text messages to be sent to my regular number. This was due to some logical needs of switching people from my Verizon number to my Google Voice number and some configuration limitations for how I used the phone that have since been reconciled by updated apps.
After switching to the Galaxy S III, I now use SMS exclusively through Google Voice and my current Verizon Wireless txt msg usage stats show as "0" sent/received.

[Q] MMS sending with (no subject) before every text

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 4 to the Nexus 5 and i'm loving it! when I try to group text over MMS with my friends, who all have iphones, they receive the text just fine over MMS and I can reply, view, all the normal stuff, but every text they get from me start with (no subject) in bold over the normal message. Anyone had this issue before?
anyone know how to fix it?
I have already tried a plethora of messaging apps and made sure my MMS settings are correct and can't seem to find any way to remove the (no message) from the messages.
Any help at all would be appreciated!
Isn't that a iPhone issue then? Group messaging does use MMS and you can send with or without a subject but boldly displaying that there is no subject should be an issue on their end. I get group messages and it never shows "no subject"
Are you using Hangouts or another custom MMS/SMS app? If using custom, try looking for any settings that would say to include subject line with text. If running Hangouts, I checked and there is no setting to include a subject in Group MMS or anything related to it, so the issue resides as mentioned with the iPhone user.
Try enabling data when you receive an MMS.

[Q] Best Group MMS app?

Something I have noticed with my m8 is that when I am in a mms group chat, it takes a while to download the messages. If I am in a group chat with my friend with an iphone, he receives the texts about 10-20 seconds before I do, I know what app you use makes a different and I am using textra which I love but is there an app that will better handle group chats or is it just something to do with android that is causing this.
Are you all on the same carrier? I would assume it would be a carrier/networking delay initially if you're on different carriers. But I use Handscent SMS for group messaging and haven't had any issues with iPhone or Android users. Might try that to see if it affects the delay. I wouldn't think it would help though.
Also, if the person that's sending the message is on an iPhone as well, then your friend that's on an iPhone is probably receiving it through iMessage, not SMS, so he's definitely going to have less of a delay that way since it's just using data/IM and not the carrier's SMS system.
I experience the same thing on hangouts except my delay is typically longer than 20 seconds. Not massive concern but its embarrassing in front of my iPhone friends
Same carrier and same location and its through group mms not imessage or sms. I used to use hangout and had trouble sending messages and textra seems to do it better so I thought maybe it had to do with the app

Ability to change default apps

Is there anyway possible to change the default messaging and email apps to whatever one I want? (Speficially Gmail and Textra)
Gmail works fine (for receiving at least). I turned it off because my watch was vibrating too much. I use Google's messenger just fine too - voice response and all.
Sorry for taking so long to reply, and is there a way to compose new messages from Textra?
I recall being able to send messages through the messages app on the watch.
Just ignore the "please set messages to default app on phone" message that pops up every time you make a new message on the watch.

Oh, but I can't see my participant's messages on the gear (only I see my messages) also, group messages isn't functional.
I would like to know this too. I use Aquamail on my phone for email and Next SMS (Handscent) for messaging. I don't really want to use the default email app or default messaging. Is there not a way to change it?
