Network sim icons - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I am using Moto G (1st Gen) XT 1033 and running Paranoid 5.1 version.
Whenever i search for the network operators in mobile networks, there are some some icons which come up beside the service providers names. some have a sim like icon and some have a lock icon. and some are empty. Can some one tell me what these mean?
Thanks
Vijay

H and H+ problem

Hello guys,
I have flashed my Moto G xt1032 8Gb into a GPE with this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2747181
But now i have an issue with H and H+ network .. I only have E (edge) and 3G in my notification bar, no H and no H+ (I live in France)
When i go to setting/about phone/stat, it' s noticed "mobile network type: HSPA", so why i don' t have the "H" in my notification bar ?
I am on KOT49H.M004 build with the latest NON-HLOS.bin from Motorola stock retail FR (MSM8626BP_1032.355.66.00R)
Can you help me ?
The GPE Moto G is only available in the USA, where most phones appear to show 3G instead of H/H+.. It's purely cosmetic, your phone can still access H/H+ networks but you just can't tell if it is.
You can use GravityBox (Xposed module) to enable the icon again if you wish, I prefer to leave it as is because my network type changes so often between 3G/H and H+ which gets annoying.

[Q] How to choose 2G network on Moto G 1st gen with android 5.1 ?

Hi everyone,
After doing factory reset on Moto G 1st generation XT1032 with android 5.1 (stock french retail, system version 221.21.56.falcon_umts.Retail.en.FR ), I can not choose to use 2G network in
Settings -> More -> Cellular networks -> Preferred network type
Before there was possibility to choose between 2G and 3G, now there is only 3G
Can someone confirm Motorola removed this 2G option in "Preferred network type", or this is just a bug only on my phone?

1st Gen Moto G cannot add APN

I have 1st generation Moto G from Telus CA, Lollipop 5.1. I am using in on AT&T network. Phone works great but cannot access data. Under APN, ATT (Phone) was marked but data is not working whenever I turn off WiFi.
I tried to add new APN but the "add" function crash everytime when I tried.
Any suggestion to get data working ?
Thanks,
Ching-Ho Cheng

SOLVED: VISIBLE: Network & Internet - Mobile network - VoLTE greyed out but ON?

Carrier is Visible (VZW). Under Network & Internet - Mobile network - VoLTE is greyed out in the ON position. Does this mean VoLTE is ON & I can't switch it off?
Ok I got to menu *#*#4636#*#* . And LTE is listed under Voice Network Type. I'm thinking that means I have VoLTE enabled. Am I correct?
Sorry my brain leaves the building at times thanks all. Also just wondering why my Moto G Stylus show only LTE & not VoLTE in the notification area. Of course Visible doesn't use CDMA.
