I just updated my Nvidia shield to Android 5.1
They changed the UI and everything and I hated it,
is there a way to downgrade it back to KitKak 4.4 without losing my data?
No, after downgrading you will probably be stuck in a bootloop so you have to do a factory reset.
You have to get Titanium backup (needs root), backup apps and data, then flash an older factory image, root again, restore apps and data with titanium backup.

You can use the flash-all.bat in the factory 5.1 image as long as you remove the -w. The -w is what tells it to wipe. Once that is done, you will be on 5.1 and you can then re-root by booting into a custom recovery (fastboot boot recovery.img) and installing the root.zip from there. That will get your root back.
Since you are already rooted, I am assuming that your device is already unlocked.
I am running the latest update LP 5.1. Can I restore my KitKat backup to revert or is the boot loader different now requiring a full flash to downgrade? Thanks.
Hey people. Can someone point me towards how I can upgrade to Marshmallow from 4.4 without losing root? Additionally, what is my next option for restoring all of my apps with data? Apologies for the noob question - haven't been flashing things on my phone since Kit Kat.
What's the problem with rooting again? You can upgrade without losing data if don't flash userdata.img.
You can restore your user data with TB, adb,...
you don't need to restore data if you skip flashing userdata.img
I have XT1550 2 GB India retail version running Android 5.1.1
It is rooted and has TWRP. I want to upgrade it to MM, but I don't want to wipe the data. AFAIK, I can't use factory firware images without a reset. Is there a way to upgrade and keep all my apps and data?

No. You will face too many issues if you keep data from a rooted 5.1.1 to stock 6.0.1
You need to make a factory reset before flashing. I would even advise you to wipe system and internal memory as well before flashing the 6.0.1 factory image
So i rooted my S7 Edge but i dont want custom ROM or custom Recovery, only root for my personal usage (Deleting bloatwares, using WifiKill, Titanium backup), but i still want my OTA Updates, is there any way to install OTA Update with odin but without loosing data. When i download newest update and install it, it Factory reset my phone.
