So i rooted my S7 Edge but i dont want custom ROM or custom Recovery, only root for my personal usage (Deleting bloatwares, using WifiKill, Titanium backup), but i still want my OTA Updates, is there any way to install OTA Update with odin but without loosing data. When i download newest update and install it, it Factory reset my phone.

I heard the phone gets unrooted with an OTA? So what happens to the apps that need root access? They stay there and start working fine when you root again or need to be reinstalled?
Do you lose data in the process when you install OTA update on a rooted phone?
if i remember correctly , it will not have OTA with rooted phone even with stock ROM.
by root , you must have change some system file , most case, flash CWM recovery and install superuser, which will effectively fail the OTA.
You will get the ota.
it will install perfectly normal if you still have stock recovery.
if you have custom recovery manually flash the update.zip Then flash su.zip. You're now stock rooted.

I have stock recovery and I do have some third party apps installed as system apps but I havent deleted any.
I'll think unless I am one of the first to get OTA I'll prolly be too impatient to wait for it anyways and flash through CWM. But will I lose data flashing through CWM? I have flashed stock roms through stock recovery when it was allowed in GB and never lost data but I wasnt rooted back then.

Be patient, stay rooted, soon after the release I am sure there will be a stock rom that you can flash via CWM,
You won't loose data.
You can flash official updates through cwm no problem. In fact that was the only way to do it manually after 4.0.3. Stock recovery would not allow manually flashing the update zip. Would end up in a error 7.
So it was either wait for the update to be pushed to your phone or flash it manually with a custom recovery
Hi
I rooted my note 10.1 quite a while ago (~6 months)
The method I used I believe was to flash something using odin (cf autoroot? )
Anyway I just wanted root to be able to use sixaxis but was happy with stock rom. Now it has been a while I would like to update my rom and by going into su and temporarily disabling root I can download the ota update from samsung but it refuses to install.
Does anyone know a way to just remove root so I can install the ota update and not have to do a full wipe.
I could download the rom from samsungfirmware and then install with odin but would that not require a wipe?
Thanks

No suggest you use Kies .
Just picked up a used S5 that was already rooted running KK, not sure of the root method used. Looking to upgrade to Lollipop but obviously can't take the OTA, used unroot in SU and the OTA says it's been modified and won't take it. How do I update it to lollipop and still keep my data?

You unrooted but you may still have a custom recovery. That will prevent the OTA update. Without more info it is hard to tell you the right way to go. I would backup what you have first. Do a nandroid. I would backup apps and data with Titanium Backup (but you can't since you already unrooted).
I had a Note3 that was rooted, slightly modified and then unrooted. I was able to get it back to stock and updated using Kies. Not sure if that will work for you in this case.

You could try Triangle Away but I'm not sure that would work. The best way would be to put the phone into download mode, and then use Odin to go to the stock OA6 Lollipop build, but this would cause you to lose all your data. You could also re-root, titanium backup / sms backup and restore, then once you Odin to Lollipop you can restore all your old apps and data as well as text messages.
So I can jump right to the stock OA6 lollipop odin with no issues? At this point I have all my stuff backed up and don't care about what's left on the phone, wipe it clean and start fresh is what I'm thinking. My plain is to odin the stock OA6 build, root using chainfire and hotspot mod.
Go for it. That should work. Use Odin to load the full tar of oa6 and then root it.
I plan on rooting my s7 flat, but im wondering if its possible to get ota updates if i unroot. Possible?
You won't get them while rooted, so unrooting might be required to update, but it's unlikely Knox won't still notice.
Incase unrooting doesn't work:
Unfortunately, flashing the update with Odin typically prompts the stock recovery to factory reset( for "security") .
Thus, the upgrade process would be:
Backup all apps using ADB or Titanium.
Download firmware from a site like SamMobile
Flash new firmware with Odin.
Phone will reset at first boot.
Setup phone accounts and settings.
Reroot / flash recovery, mods etc
Restore apps.
It's not the most convenient way, nor does it allow delta updates, but it's certainly the cleanest.
Note this only applies to stock ROMs. Custom ROMs won't have nearly as many issues and likely have their own update instructions on their threads.
It's been a while, what is the best (easiest) way to update a rooted S6?
