I am running the latest update LP 5.1. Can I restore my KitKat backup to revert or is the boot loader different now requiring a full flash to downgrade? Thanks.

Hello everyone I am using an XT1032 which is the Moto G that isn't the google play edition and I was wondering if it was safe to flash to the 4.4.4 custom ROM's such as AOSB?
I've read the guide on how to unbrick and currently I've being trying ROM's and then restoring my ClockWorkMod backup of stock, obviously this stock ROM is 4.4.2 so if I was to upgrade to a 4.4.4 ROM for the XT1032 could I go restore that stock ROM afterwards and get away without bricking? I know there is a fix but I would really like to avoid going through all of that...
Thank you in advance

You should be able to upgrade to 4.4.4 ROM and then restore to anything as long as your boot loader is unlocked.
yes, it is safe
unlock bootloader and convert to gpe 442, receive the ota, having no root and stock gpe 442 recovery just to be super sure
and done
but after having 444, you wont be able to have stock 442 , at least not in an easy way

I have try many way to do that but fail, stay on gpe 444
okay
Okay, I don't mean the official GPE ROM I mean what if I install lets say, Carbon 4.4.4, can I restore my stock backup after?
I installed the latest cm11 nightly (4.4.4) and I could restore my stock 4.4.2 backup with no problems.
The downgrade brick is caused by some partition table changes in the stock OTA I think. Custom roms don't change partition tables so it is fine.
I may be wrong about the cause though, feel free to correct me but I could restore without any problems.
I have a doubt, today I am in the 4.4.2 version and have a Nandroid backup. I have unlocked bootloader and root. If I restore the original firmware version 4.4.2, do the OTA updates to version 5.0.2 I can use Nandroid backup to return to the 4.4.2 version? Or after upgrading to 5.0.2 back up the version 4.4.2 no longer works?
Thanks,
The backup might work. The only thing you should be careful enough of is not to OTA update from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 otherwise it'll hard brick your phone.
I have read here in the forum about it. I will restore to 4.4.2 and let the phone do the updates.
I asked about the backup if I do not like the 5.0.2 version and want to go back to 4.4.2 quickly keeping my applications and customizations.
Thanks!
I just updated my Nvidia shield to Android 5.1
They changed the UI and everything and I hated it,
is there a way to downgrade it back to KitKak 4.4 without losing my data?
No, after downgrading you will probably be stuck in a bootloop so you have to do a factory reset.
You have to get Titanium backup (needs root), backup apps and data, then flash an older factory image, root again, restore apps and data with titanium backup.
Hello,
I have the Xt1562 Indian version running 5.1.1 - which I have rooted and also have TWRP as recovery.
The OTA upgrade gets downloaded but fails. I then reverted to stock recovery but still the OTA upgrade fails.
How can I upgrade to Marshmallow on this without losing my data or apps or contacts?
Thanks,
Padam
Ota fails since you're rooted. You can try TWRP flashable MM rom and dirty flash it without wiping /data
Ota is possible only if you are in stock firmware and stock recovery. Fast boot flash stock firmware and get ota or directly flash updated firmware. Githup has all stock firmware files.
Never use stock update via TWRP , you may brick your device.
During giving fast boot commands , skip fast boot erase user data will not wipe data , but while doing this I have some FC s. Otherwise backup all your files , apps data and flash firmware.
Hi,
I want to update to 6.0.1 Xtresolite but I wonder how can I keep my data? (I want to restore every apps & images on the updated version)...
When I update, should I make a factory reset? When Can I find a step by step from 5.1.1 to 6.0.1 ?
What do you think about Smart Switch?
When you are coming from 5.1.1 stock you can't install a 6.0.1 rom. You first have to upgrade to stock 6.0.1. Keeping data when flashing a custom rom is unlikely since a full wipe is required before flashing when you don't want to run into any issues/FCs.
@XxM4tzexX So I can update to 6.0.1 stock without loosing any data? How?
Flashing a stock Firmware via Odin.
