dBrand, but front screen remains unprotected! - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a dbrand front skin for my s6 and I had to remove my glass protector to apply it. But now my screen remains unprotected and the S6 screen glass is not great as I already had minor scratches from the time I didn't have a screen protector.
Anyone could help and suggest some ideas please?
Was thinking of cutting a cheap plastic protector into rectangular shape and apply??
Please help!

I had a glass protector for an HTC m8 lying around so I put that on my galaxy in the meantime. It was just slightly too big but my guess is that one for a m7 would be perfect because that screen is a little bit smaller. You could try getting a cheap plastic one for that phone and try that. The protectors for these phones were rectangular only because of the speaker grills

Get a tempered glass screen protector. Araree or Otterbox Alphaglass are good brands.

Great idea! I'll try that.
Thanks!

Found one! http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00BO2OU90/...UTF8&colid=OF0APEE3A8AF&coliid=I1X1HO6DKO8ZSJ
Fits only the screen portion of the S6, so dbrand skin fits perfectly! It's only about 3-4mm longer, so it's from upper end of screen to the upper end of the home button. The sides are not covered, so dbrand skin is not affected. The dbrand covers only that 3mm part above the upper end of home button! Not a real issue!
The screen protector itself is of great quality and feels like glass!
Thanks @alray

Precision Cut Screen Protector?

Has anyone found and tried any screen protectors that are precision cut for the front and or back? I ordered a couple brands so far from Amazon, and I'm guessing they were earlier cuts before the phone was actually released, because the edges don't go all the way to the edges on both top and bottom. I'm hoping the protectors overtime are more precision cut and edge-to-edge.
Any recommendations?
The screen is rounded on all edges... they will bubble if they went all the way. .. you might not be able to tell with your eye... but it is.

I was thinking that same thing, until I took a look at Dbrand's skin. They have real images of their skin on the back and front of the S6 device. Precision cut, edge to edge. Yup, all the way to the edges. It's beautiful. But, this time around, I actually do like the black sapphire look, so would very much not like to cover it up with a skin.
Seeing Dbrand was able to do it with even a thicker skin, I'd like to assume that a thinner screen protector can do the same.
Take a look at the Dbrand site and the pictures they have up of the S6 with their skin on.
On the video when they pull off the front screen skin part that covers the lcd portion of the screen... there is nothing there... as in the screen is not protected... those are just edge to edge design vinyls... no thank you.

I should be more specific. I didn't link to the Dbrand site to show a skin that has no screen protection. That's quite obvious. What I'm talking about is a product that wraps over the edge, which you're saying is not possible. I'm saying, that if Dbrand can get the edge of their thick ass vinyls to curve slightly over the S6's edge, then a company that does make screen protectors should be able to get their thinner more malleable screen protectors to do so as well.
I don't care about the vinyls, I simply am referring to the product as an example of one company that is able to make it work. So I'm simply asking if anyone else has yet purchased a screen protector that covers edge to edge. Not stopping short like pre-manufactured screen protectors are thus far.

I used Zagg back when I had the Nexus 4, which had more significantly curved edges on its screen, but the Zagg formed perfectly with zero lift and zero bubbles. It was a wet install, so that may have helped. The S6's edges are not as curved as the Nexus 4 was, so I'm hopeful for some edge to edge protection. Quite possibly it was user error in your case (Best Buy)? Did you install it, or did they?

Nah i paid the $10 for bestbuy to do it cause i wanted it done ("Professionally") instead of me screwing up x20 times....and everytime he put it on I wasnt happy with it and neither was he... I actually let it sit a day and brought it back and said , forget it Im not happy with it...so I went to the source and got a $20 HD clear protector and its been great! but it doesn't go all the way to the top or bottom..but I am happy with it.
This one is perfect. Front and back have perfect cuts. There's a plastic and a glass one that you can choose from.

Tempered Glass w/Bumper?

Has anyone been able to apply a tempered glass screen protector and use the included bumper? Tried with mine but the bumper seems to push up on the screen protector from the edges..
I have a tempered glass protector on mine with the bumper without any issues, but the glass protector had terrible halo effect. Almost all do because this has a slightly curved screen like the Nexus 6 and manufacturers didn't account for it. Probably going to be a couple weeks before they start to release ones that don't lift up in the corners..
Same with me, terrible halo effect on left and right edges. (For those who don't know what this mean, it just means that the screen doesn't fit flush to the screen due to the curvature of the phone, and appears as if a giant bubble stretches around the whole screen protector's edges as if it looks like the screen protector is surrounded by a halo)

thats exactly what i was getting, but when i removed the bumper, the screen protector was good. Now im just worried about walking around with absolutely no protection from drops. first tempered glass screen protector and im loving it, but i think the only other alternative is a regular oleophobic protector
The skinomi glass protector actually fits very well with the bumper. I was initially annoyed about it being too small (width is just the size of the actual display, so it requires some precision/multiple attempts to align it right, best done with the bumper on). However there is no haloing on the sides, just some on the ears around the speakers, mostly the bottom, and the bumper doesn't interfere with it.

Does the T-mobile version come with a screen protector applied?

Does it come with one already applied to the screen or is it just a plastic wrap around the phone?
It is just thin plastic.

Mine came with a protector already applied front and rear. the plastic that was on the phone had to be taken off to put the SIM in and much to my surprise there was a screen protector already on the screen.
There's a screen protector on it under the plastic sleeve. You can tell it's there by running your hand over the front facing camera area. It's a finger print magnet tho so I took it off.

Same with mine. I didn't realize it was there until I noticed the seam around the prox sensor.
I left mine on, no problem with touch responsiveness.
So?
Is it just plastic or not. I think it is. I bought a very expensive screen protector cause of the expense of the phone and it does not fit the LG G5. It also doesn't stick down at the top where it curves. Taking this back again.

Seems like it's just cheap, generic shipping-protection plastic, yeah. I had a screen protector that shipped with my case, but it also didn't stick at the top where it curves... So, it's a good thing I was just buying for the case. Now I just have to never, ever, ever drop it on that spot at the top where it curves...
so, what about applying a tempered glass protector? On top of the existing one? or remove the existing one?
I like the existing protector - it's been quite fine IMHO, and no bubbles, very smoothly applied!

I imagine it's gonna be a pain. With that light curve at the top, you'll have to be sure you get the right protector, and even so, it might just not cover the curved part at the top. The screen protector I got wasn't glass (harder plastic) and didn't have a curve to fit, so I think it was a G4 (didn't have one, myself, just assuming it didn't have a curved top) protector that was trying to be passed off... Research, research, research first!
The protector I ordered stops just past the top edge of the 'screen, below the speaker. we'll see how that goes. It's scheduled to arrive Friday...

Tempered glass that covers only the display?

Hi! I am searching for tempered glass screen protector that would cover only the display part (so I could also put a bling sticker on the phone haha). Thank you for suggestions!

All the ones I've used cover the home and back buttons and even the LED. Are you looking for something that covers less than that?

Yes, I would like one that only covers actual display part (the 5.7 inch diagonal rectangular part), no more:fingers-crossed: I think it is probably not possible :/
see I'm the total opposite, I can't find one that fits PERFECT and I usually go with BodyGuardz ( I really like the home button spacers and stuff they got nice kits) but ya anywho....so I tried two , one BGDz and the other generic , the generic was awful , the bodyguards was at least bit better fit. SO , what I did was bought a galaxy note 3 glass and it covers it edge to edge. the only issue is the edges could be tapered or rounded a bit but really I'm damn happy with it, total coverage for the full front, I hate cases but an otterbox / similar would have this thing fully encased and protected.

Best one I've found...
I have tried several tempered glass screen protectors on my Note 4. The best I have found are from Spigen. All of the other glass protectors usually left a slight gap on the edges where the display curves, but the Spigen slightly curves with the display and leaves no air gap. I have that in conjunction with the Versus Iron Shield cover; definitely a premium feel. You can get both for less than you just quoted ($45) on Amazon...
Most tempered glass screen protectors for the Note 4 are designed to just cover the display and not the whole front panel.

Most do not even cover the whole display, since there's a slight curve on the edges. I have a great tempered glass protector, and it is slightly narrower than the display. It doesn't bother me, since it works so well. S Pen glides so smoothly with it.

I was referring to the AMOLED display and not the entire front panel. As you have mentioned before the entire front panel of the Note 4 is made of 2.5D glass.

I have a Spigen glass screen protector on my n910v. It is not curved so as to follow the screen, but has air under the outermost 2mm or so on the long sides.
Not questioning your post. They may have changed, and someone buying one based on your recommendation is IMO going to be disappointed.
Bright side: the surface is nice - nicer than the original glass (easier finger glide, pen glide and seems to be more oleophobic - guess I have greasy ears or something )

Amazing Glass Screen Protector

So after seeing bad reviews of countless glass screen protectors, I have finally stumbled upon one that is actually fantastic and covers the entire display.
https://www.amazon.ca/ESR-Protector...2+tempered&dpPl=1&dpID=51kmkyd-p6L&ref=plSrch
I purchased this thing about a week ago and have so far been extremely satisfied. For starters it comes with a alignment tool that makes putting it on a breeze.
One benefit of this screen protector is that it is truly edge to edge, leaving about 0.75mm of space on each edge of the glass while simultaneously not cutting out any part of the display. The other benefit is that it has adhesive throughout the entire glass including the edges so no issues with the rainbow halo effect. The oleophobic coating on it is also superb. It feels EXACTLY like the original display, most glass screen protectors skimp out on this which leads them to feel a bit sticky but this one glides like the original display under it.
I installed it in under 3 minutes perfectly and there are absolutely no bubbles and the singular camera cutout is perfectly made in the correct spot. Hands down the best glass screen protector I've had for any smarthphone.
Thanks for the tip. I've ordered one on AliExpress from the same brand, costs only 5 usd
Using one for one month, just perfect and easy to apply. Very good quality and i have tried many screen protectors for mix 2 but none was as good as this one.

Hey.
I use my phone since early 2018 now.
After a few different screen protectors i gave up and use it without protector.
The phone is like a new one. I think the glass is very good and no protector is needed.
The display is very smooth to tap without one scratch on it.
Use it with full cover/case with magnetic closer.
I managed to get some hair-like fine scratches. I think your full cover helps a lot
I just shattered my ESR protector, you will never guess how. While pulling the phone out of my pocket, I somehow hooked the corner of my glass, right where the front camera is located ( here: https://imgur.com/F5Crawg ) with some loose thread in my pocket They should just make a round cutout :\
Just put mine on this morning, fits really well but 3 areas have a speck of dust under them, I put it on after getting out of the shower as the mist in the air normally keeps the dust away but not this time.
Got the esr case as well which is ok for the price.
Got them from the ESR store on AliExpress.

Tbh I can't understand why we need a camera cut out, just make a circular clear area.

There is a white frame and black frame available. Which one did you choose? . . . and is there a case that would be most compatible with this rounded edge protector?
ESR
Well, ESR glasss has the best oleofobic coating and clearness. No rainbow efect too, it has gule on the whole surface. Just that nowel plastic frame needs some practice to get use to it. There are no gaps between it and the glass on all sides , when install. The glue is really strong. I am siprised that somebody managed to stisck something between glass and screen.
My ESR protector died after a couple months of use. First some scratches appeared (the protector is softer than the screen) and on one of those scratches (a deeper one on the edge) the protector cracked. Removal was not that easy as the force required to pull it of will result in a shattered protector everywhere so expect lots of glass dust. I've ordered a new one together with a ESR case (that fits lovely too). These things are so cheap anyway that I don't mind going through a couple of them each year.
Just got the ESR case and screen protector. Thanks for the recommendation, this screen protector feels and looks like there is no protector at all, no more smudges over the original screen. The perfect application from the bracket and adhesive across the entire protector makes it the best one I've used, after giving up on covering my mix 2 after 3-4 different protectors giving neuton rings and immediately thrown out. I have probably dropped my mix 2 on the pavement 7 or 8 times in the last year getting out of my car, and only got a tiny crack on the bottom bezel corner of the screen. Since the bottom bezel on the ESR protector is black my phone looks undamaged now.
The ESR case is nearly as good as the one in the box. I do notice it's slightly thicker than the case in the box, and the added bottom protection makes the phone slightly longer, but it's overall an exceptional fit.
I got mine from taobao directly.
