Google device manager (URGENT) - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I've lost my Nexus 5 in a taxi, now It's off, gps is off and data is off, I just want to know, If someone finds my phone, and restore it to stock, can I still see my phone in device manager for a period of time ? If someone delete my google account from the phone I won't see it again in device manager ? Thanks !

Factory reset will delete all data and accounts

Nope. Google device manager is technically pointless I'm afraid. Even if it's pin locked, someone can swipe down and disable data so it still wouldn't work. It's far too flawed

[Q] Android security: What happens if someone fails to unlock the screen?

Hi all,
I've a Nexus S (Gingerbread) and I'm curious to know what actually happens if there are too many failed unlock attempts at the unlock screen?
Will it eventually wipe the phone as a security measure? (this would be ideal)
I'm concerned because I'm going to be travelling with it soon and didn't know whether it would be worth stumping up for third party security like - Lookout mobile or something (does anyone have any suggestions?)
Thanks very much!
Nothing happens you just have to wait 30 secs and try again
Or you could hit "Forgotten Password " or whatever it is and sign in with your gmail account.

When my sisters tried to unlock my phone too many times, I had to log back into my gmail to unlock it myself.
So your data is safe unless they know your gmail address and password. If not, they will have to do a complete wipe (and I'm sure any thief wouldn't know how to do that)
If you want to be safer you could download Prey, it lets you lock, automatically send a text to a pre-defined number if the sim is changed and track your phone through the internet. It's free, that's the best part.

Thanks a lot for your help guys. After a bit of investigation, I went for an app called AutoWipe:

It's very simple and does exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks again.

I'd imagine you'd have to go through the ballache of finding out your backup codes, and all that stuff.
Sometimes i wonder why i turned 2 step verification on..... then i remember just how big a part google plays in my life and how many services i use.... so i am happy

Is there any way I can return my stolen device?!

My i9001 was stolen yesterday!!
Is there any way I can get my phone back??!!
Sadly, I have no tracking app preinstalled!
Sadly, I don't think so. You will have to phone your provider and get the IMEI blocked, thus rendering the device useless to the thief.

Try the app Plan B
push androidlost to your device, sms androidlost register, and go to www.androidlost.com to find your phone. works only if the person has not taken out your sim card, and your phone has not been factory reset.
Androidlost should work since you can install app from play store, without your phone.
Probably he must have 2g/3g on, right?
You can push plan b from the play store too. Even if you have gps off. It will install and send mail to your gmail account with its location.

[Q] forgot password & wifi off

My friend forgot the password of his transformer. He thinks he left the wifi switched off, so he couldn't get the "Sign in to google to unlock" to work.
he doesn't want to reset everything and lose his data, so is there any way to fix it? can I root it and delete some file to remove the password?
Bump

Try this. They mention an app that will unlock your screen at every reboot. If he does have any sort of connectivity (which you can see even if the screen is locked) you can push the app from the play store, then just reboot your device. Otherwise it's factory reset it seems... thought there's probably a way through ADB, just can't help you there. But if you figure where the stored password is, you may be able to manually remove it somehow.

Well if it's connected then problem solved because he can unlock with Google password. Thanks though. (I haven't heard from him so I'm not sure what he did)

Help with Nexus 5

I purchased a nexus 5 from text now and decided to move my phone to tmobile. However every time i made a call the text now app dials for me. I uninstalled the text now app and now I cant make calls. I tried installing a dialer from the app store but still cant dial keeps asking for a default app and when I pick one it just goes back to the same screen without dialing.
Any suggestions?
Flash a complete factory image using fastboot. That'll return the device to like new stock, it'll wipe the device so backup anything you want to keep first.

rooted Samsung Galaxy 4 on OS 5.01. Can't login to XDA Labs app.

Hello, I am using an old galaxy S4 as a slave device to setup android auto wireless. Ive rooted the device and all thats left is to add the AAgateway app from XDA labs. The problem is that I have tried logging into the xda labs app several times both with username and password and with Google and it won't let me. When I try using my username and password it says the password is invalid. But ive checked if correct several times and also changed my password twice. Still says invalid. When I try using Google, it hangs after I click on my Google account with a green background but its stuck there. Ive cleared cache. Deleted app and reinstalled also waited till next day to try logging in again with no success. Can anyone help me please? I just want to be able to download the apps on xda labs.

I've had this problem once, and it was because the WiFi network wasn't connecting me to internet, see if you can browse internet with your connection. Otherwise your password may be wrong. Did you tried to modify your account's password ?
Also, I think Google login on XDA Labs is broke because Google + is gone, but idk if they fixed it or not because I don't use Google to sign-in.
If you still didn't find the answer, consider asking there :

P.S: I've been using XDA Labs while rooted for about 3 month, and I didn't encounter any problem. So I don't think root is the problem (except if it affects your network connectivity)

I checked the internet connection and its fine. I've changed my password twice and it still says it's wrong. I check several times to make sure my password was correct so not sure why it says its wrong. Ill check the link you sent me.
