I was wondering if there is anyway to get the dialer to search the recent calls like most smart dialers do. This one seems to only check saved contacts.

I don't think there's a way to do that with this dialer but you can always download a replacement https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.truecaller.phoneapp

That app messed up the phone completely . calls coming ring or buzz but dont pop up the ability to answer the call.
So I uninstalled it but weirdly it fixed the google voice issue that so many have complained about. previously you couldnt choose to dial out with google voice that it would show the GV number. Now it does so thanks because that was important.

I'm fond of rocketdialer. It has many themes and might be more to your liking. Oh and "truecaller" for callerid.

What launcher are you using? Because this has nothing to do with the power control widget, nor does it affect it in any way.

That is correct. Blacklist the messages and you won't see them or have a notification sound or image in the bar.

The new voicemail showing up on boot is a CM6 issue with some phones. Nothing I can do about that, some phones just have that ghost notification
so i flashed the voicemail zip the other day i got the app. but it doesn't work. If i call my cell phone with another phone it rings and i don't pick up. Than instead of saying you have reached the sprint voicemail box and so on it just says the person you have called is not in service and sometimes it doesn't say anything and just hangs up. Also i put my number in as the voicemail number and if i call voicemail from my phone it takes me there and says to put my passcode in, so its working but not if someone calls me. Why am i having this problem?

This is a first for me. I can't find the actual App so I can click and listen to my Visual Voicemail. Do I have to call to get my messages, or are they downloaded to the phone and I'm just missing where they are?? Thanks.

Handcent - VVM
I have installed the Sprint VVM and Handcent. When I get a voicemail I still get the text message through the messaging app that comes with the rom. So, it does not have a chance to block through Handcent. Any ideas...

In handcent, long press on the text thread from the VVM number. Select blacklist, and the notifications from the messages will stop, along with the thread itself being hidden.
I did that but I still get the messages through the normal messaging not Handcent. Do I have to do this in a certain order? I have tried rebooting the phone. I had someone text me to see where the message would come to and it shows up in Handcent but the notification in the notification bar takes me to the normal messaging not Handcent.
Can you disable the stock messaging in the rom?
Thanks,
David

Go into your messages app, hit menu, options, and then uncheck notifications. That way you don't get 2 notifications for every message, you only get handcent's.
Hey guys!
The NS is my 2nd Android phone, the first being the Epic 4G for about 3 weeks (no signal in home ).
Anyway, one of the cool features of the Epic was that when an incoming call came in, you had 3 options:
1) Answer/take the call
2) Send caller directly to voice mail
3) Send caller an automatic text response (it offered some common replies, as well as allowed you to customize your own text responses in its settings).
I don't know if this was a Samsung feature, or an Android 2.1 feature, but I was wondering if there was a way to set this up on our NS's, or if there's an app that offers something similar to this?
Thx!

Yeah, that's what I was a afraid of - too bad, as it's an awesome feature! Do you know of an app that can do something similar? Thx
Back on 2.1 if you hit the power button it would silence, and if you slide to reject it would send to voicemail immediately.
I'm not sure if it's still like that as I've been on CM for quiet a while now, and those were changed.

So i havn't seen anyone else complaining about this yet but it must drive someone insane or im just way too OCD.
As seen below, when you open the dialer you are presented with Keypad/Recent/Favorites/Contacts, in that order.
When you press on Contacts, Recent is replaced by Groups (i dont like it but ok-whatever), my biggest issue is that Favorites and Contacts swap places, to me this is just insane.
As a side note, for me going from dialer to contacts takes a long time to load, i'd say about 1.5 seconds, i do have a few hundred contacts but this is also the first time ive had this issue.
Thoughts or ideas?
lol, mine never changes.
Hmm, I never noticed until you pointed that out...
It is strange that favorites and contacts swap spots. I never really noticed, because I have a contacts link on one of my home screens and when I am in the dialer I dont bother going in to contacts, I just start typing the name I want.
Strange, but not a problem for me...
I just tried going into my contacts from the dialer and it did seem to pause for a second (I have 474 contacts), but I never really notice a pause going into contacts from the home screen directly.
I actually spent a couple hours the other day weeding out my contacts on Google (via GMal). Contacts I speak to frequently are starred. Anyone else I either start typing their name or directly reply to a text or such. I went to my contacts a few different times since reading this and nothing changed.
Mine changes, just like the OP. I hate it, especially since on Froyo I had a much cleaner dialer. What I miss the most is the ability to have the dialer stay on the screen when I make calls, meaning having the option before to have it show automatic in a call, vs having to open the dialer when actually in a phone call. I have searched everywhere I can find for the option to have the dialer always open when in a call, but cat find that option. Does anyone know how to make the dialer show for every phone call, without having to select it once the call has been started. ? Thanks in advance.

I agree having the dialer remain up is more intuitive to me
Hello,
I'd like to do 2 things but am not sure what to do to improve voicemails for me.
1. When I slide down to see that I have a voice mail, if I select it it prompts me for a password. I'd like it to auto enter it. I can dial my voicemail and have it put in pauses and auto enter my password but it would be much more convenient if I could make the notification icon do that for me. Had that problem with the nexus but was too lazy to do anything about it.
2. When the phone rings, if I ignore it, I still get the default sound afterwards - probably to tell me I have a voicemail. Not much point in having it do a default notification immediately after ignoring a phone call so if I could turn that off, that would be great. My nexus didn't have that - seemed like I had more options for sounds for specific events but that could be faulty wiring in my brain.
Thanks
I figured out the default sound - it was changing between my messaging sound and the default sound.
I'd still like to figure a way to avoid the password prompt in my voice mail.
Not sure as I have never used the default voicemail on my Galaxy S3. I use voicemail through Google Voice. It is much better (In My Opinion) than regular voicemail.

my god thank you!
this has been bugging the sh*t outta me
Using google voice will be your best bet. These are the options you can choose to have using it.
1. You can access your vm via normal calls/prompts
2. You can have your voicemail transcribed and emailed to you
3. You can have your voicemail transcribed and texted to you
4. YOu can choose to do none of the above and just get a notification you have a voicemail and go directly to the google voice website and play your voicemail automatically via web browser.
None of the above requires a password.

Hi...
I finally got the phone 3 days ago, but noticed that when i get incoming calls i can't use the phone untill the call ends or untill i answer it, what stopping me from playing / writing messages of even use Facebook app untill: 1. I answer the call. 2. I ignore the call, and wait for the other person to hang up.
I had other phones that i could just press the "Home" button and continue with my things.
Is there any solution for that?

you need to go into app settings and make google dialer the default phone app
Iv'e put the dialer as default everywhere also in the app category, it still only shows the calling icon on top of the screen, also won't show any contacts names when incoming calls..
Did you got this to work in your phone perfectly?
Aren't there any other apps that can be used instead?

Yes it works perfectly.
Set as default, enable all permissions for it and it will work fine. Plenty of us are using it without any issue. What do you mean by "only shows calling icon on top of the screen". That sounds like the google dialer which is what it is supposed to do and not take up the entire screen.
I don't know, it just wont work properly on my device, i did all what you said above and restarted the device and still.. i only get the icon on the notification bar at the top of the screen when call enters.
I gave up and downloaded "Drupe" - wonderfull app really does the job well and also looks great (cost me about 4$ - worth it), better than the default HTC's app.
Thanks for the help!
You have to go into setting>application>Phone>application>Phone application, select the app you installed, then you may see the different calling screen when you call someone / receive a call. (not a football fan so installed normal v17)
