Newbie questions about voicemail - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello,
I'd like to do 2 things but am not sure what to do to improve voicemails for me.
1. When I slide down to see that I have a voice mail, if I select it it prompts me for a password. I'd like it to auto enter it. I can dial my voicemail and have it put in pauses and auto enter my password but it would be much more convenient if I could make the notification icon do that for me. Had that problem with the nexus but was too lazy to do anything about it.
2. When the phone rings, if I ignore it, I still get the default sound afterwards - probably to tell me I have a voicemail. Not much point in having it do a default notification immediately after ignoring a phone call so if I could turn that off, that would be great. My nexus didn't have that - seemed like I had more options for sounds for specific events but that could be faulty wiring in my brain.
Thanks

I figured out the default sound - it was changing between my messaging sound and the default sound.
I'd still like to figure a way to avoid the password prompt in my voice mail.

Not sure as I have never used the default voicemail on my Galaxy S3. I use voicemail through Google Voice. It is much better (In My Opinion) than regular voicemail.

i will have your children!
my god thank you!
this has been bugging the sh*t outta me

Using google voice will be your best bet. These are the options you can choose to have using it.
1. You can access your vm via normal calls/prompts
2. You can have your voicemail transcribed and emailed to you
3. You can have your voicemail transcribed and texted to you
4. YOu can choose to do none of the above and just get a notification you have a voicemail and go directly to the google voice website and play your voicemail automatically via web browser.
None of the above requires a password.

Thanks - I understand I can do it if I create a voicemail contact and call voicemail. My goal is to slide down notifications and click on the voicemail icon.

What launcher are you using? Because this has nothing to do with the power control widget, nor does it affect it in any way.

That is correct. Blacklist the messages and you won't see them or have a notification sound or image in the bar.

The new voicemail showing up on boot is a CM6 issue with some phones. Nothing I can do about that, some phones just have that ghost notification
so i flashed the voicemail zip the other day i got the app. but it doesn't work. If i call my cell phone with another phone it rings and i don't pick up. Than instead of saying you have reached the sprint voicemail box and so on it just says the person you have called is not in service and sometimes it doesn't say anything and just hangs up. Also i put my number in as the voicemail number and if i call voicemail from my phone it takes me there and says to put my passcode in, so its working but not if someone calls me. Why am i having this problem?

This is a first for me. I can't find the actual App so I can click and listen to my Visual Voicemail. Do I have to call to get my messages, or are they downloaded to the phone and I'm just missing where they are?? Thanks.

The app should be there, try flashing again and tell me how it goes.
Handcent - VVM
I have installed the Sprint VVM and Handcent. When I get a voicemail I still get the text message through the messaging app that comes with the rom. So, it does not have a chance to block through Handcent. Any ideas...

In handcent, long press on the text thread from the VVM number. Select blacklist, and the notifications from the messages will stop, along with the thread itself being hidden.
I did that but I still get the messages through the normal messaging not Handcent. Do I have to do this in a certain order? I have tried rebooting the phone. I had someone text me to see where the message would come to and it shows up in Handcent but the notification in the notification bar takes me to the normal messaging not Handcent.
Can you disable the stock messaging in the rom?
Thanks,
David

Go into your messages app, hit menu, options, and then uncheck notifications. That way you don't get 2 notifications for every message, you only get handcent's.

it's been asked so many times by now that any of the regulars here in the forum know it by heart. please use the search next time. there are 2 other dedicated threads to this as well as it being mentioned in about 4 others.
Wow, wish I would've known this sooner. When I got my phone on Wed I had the same issue. Did a Google search and nothing. Ended up calling myself and leaving a voicemail. It cleared it afterwards.

i dont have this setting on my phone !!!
you can click on voicemail notification and hear the voicemail ??
i have to call my mailbox to listen to them ???
how can i set this up ???
It should be the 4th item, Settings > Call > Clear voicemail notification.
If not then call your phone and leave a voicemail. And then after you get the notification listen to it from your phone and it should remove the icon.
Being able to turn off the voicemail notification is one of the things about cm7 I miss the most. Seems like I always have a new voicemail notification, but no voicemail.
With Orange UK, this happened to me once in a while with a lot of phones.
The solution was to call the CS centre, and ask them to "reset my mailbox".
THis would clear the problem up in a few mins.

ON/OFF Button + VM

How long are you holding the button on top of the phone to turn off/On?
Mine is responding, but alarmingly slow - Like 5 or 6 seconds. Is this normal?
2nd: Voicemail indicator stays up on the notification bar. I keep checking but NO VM's. Recently i signed up for Google Voice and thought that might be the culprit as it is linked to my cellphone...however, nothing in GV either.
Resetting the phone On/Off does nothing.
Thanks
HelloHelloHello!
Is there anybody out there? just nod if you can hear me, is there anyone home?

Wrong spot to post or what?? a Little help would be great!
It varies how long but yeah that's about normal. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 seconds, sometimes it takes 5 or 6 and sometimes it takes multiple tries for me.
And for your voicemail problem, I'd recommend waiting 5 or 6 seconds after you press 7 to delete a voicemail, because usually mine doesn't register it unless I wait.
Regarding the VM issue, using another phone, call yourself and leave a message. Then call in and delete it. As I recall, this should clean/reset the indicator.

What he said. But if it's the TMO voicemail icon, make sure you go into the phone settings and forward your calls to your standard voicemail, call, delete, then reforward to GV.

Thanks for the help. The thing is that i removed the GV voicemail immediately after signing up for the service...in the settings it reflects that fact. Howevver, i tried the suggestions and calls are still going to GV voicemail. The message indicator is still there and neither GV nor Tmob show any messages.

call reject with s-voice

Just saw a commercial where some girls where using s-voice and an incoming call came in and she said reject and it rejected it.
Can anyone duplicate that ?
I know the Samsung press release says it can do it but my s3 on at&t won't.
Thanks
Did you set up a wake up command to reject calls? I'd try that to see if it works.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
its actually just a voice command feature for apps, s-voice doesn't have to be open for this to work. Go to settings -> language and input -> voice cmd for apps -> turn them on. If you open this setting you will also have options on what voice command you want to to work (incoming calls, alarm, camera, and music)
I've found the commands to be flaky as hell. Still haven't gotten the answer/reject to work and I pretty much have to yell at the phone to get the others to work.
I actually like the voice set up. I use it for the camera and I can say things like shoot cheese and smile.

i too would like a solution without being force to use google voice. at the moment the phone doesn't alert me with a light notification or visual notification of any kind. i have to hold 1 to call myself to see if i have any messages :\ i have a business and really need the 2 numbers separate separate (sprint and GV).
I have the same situation. I've asked this question across multiple sites with no suggestions. I'm hoping once Sprint officially releases their M
N5 we'll have some option.
