Moto G and Android Auto - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone have this combo to confirm it works or doesn't?
I have the 8GB Moto G (2015) and an Android Auto headunit, which was working great with a Nexus 5 until that phone died. When I plug in the Moto G, I get a message saying that the device is not compatible. Having a hard time believing that since it is a new phone running Android 5.1.1 and is pretty close to stock Android.

You can try spoofing the reported device by editing the build.prop.
ro.build.version.release = The build of android the device is running on.
ro.product.model = The device model name.
ro.product.brand = The brand that makes the device. (CAUTION: MUST BE IN ALL LOWERCASE LETTERS)
Try changing them to the same thing a Nexus 5 reports.

Google has just posted a new known issue for Android Auto on their support page:
Android Auto doesn't start on the Moto G. We're working with Motorola on a solution.

Not sure if it was a Google Play Services or Android Auto update, but AA now works with my Moto G 3rd gen (2015). The phone processor/memory may not be up to the task though, it seems quite laggy compared to what I've experienced with the Nexus 5.

[Q] Miracast/WiDi support

ANSWER:
The Moto G has Miracast support from the hardware, but it is disabled by default on 4.3. If you want to enable it you need to modify this build.prop: persist.debug.wfd.enable=1
With the 4.4.2 update it is enabled by default.
Original question:
Hello,
Do you guys see any hardware related reasoning behind the wireless display option missing from the Moto G?
Wifi direct is working perfectly and I don't see why is that piece of software is missing.
/M
Hm.. good one.
Most probably because of the low price. "Want this? Try Moto X"
...if you're living in the EU.

It's possible under the KitKat update, the option is restored according to a screengrab on another thread.

since then I found, that it is possible to enable the option through modifying the build props even on 4.3. Do you know if you have seen it on stock 4.4.2?

Infusion ROM from till as has miracast enabled and it works, according to till as its a software thing and not hardware. So it may help to check there or use the ROM.

Already been verified the standard kitkat release has it enabled

Build.prop needs to be modified to enable screen mirroring. It is a small change in one line from 0 to 1
persist.debug.wfd.enable=1
Reboot and there should be an option for screen share in settings.

Miracast
Has anyone managed to get Miracast working using a PTV3000 (push2tv) Netgear device with the Moto G after this amendment?
Would really appreciate any feedback on this.

Even on kitkat, when it's already enabled by default, miracast is not working.

Does anyone know around this situation??
So i have 4.4.2 Kitkat on my retail (phones4u) Moto G , bu there is no wireless display option ?
I notice it was before the update that people were saying its included in KK , but i have not seen anyone since confirm this.
Should this option be available now , and if so any ideas why i dont have it ?
Thanks

it is there, but missing the part where you can enable it. settings/display/cast screen
there should be a menu button (which is missing) where you could switch it on

I have this Miracast dongle: http://www.ebay.com/itm/WIFI-Displa...-AirPlay-Wireless-TV-Share-NEW-/380780733199?
My phone does make a connection to the dongle with Wifi direct (see pic). Also under Wifi settings --> Wifi direct it lists the connection as active. According to the manual of the dongle, when it says 'Ready to display', it should start the screen casting. Unfortunately it doesn't. It also doesn't show anything under display --> cast screen.
Everything seems to be in place with the connection. I'm wondering whether our devices miss the supporting hardware, or that it's just a disabled setting by Motorola to not cannibalize on the Moto X.
Up for this
I was looking for Miracast dongle for my TV to link it with the G, because of the cast option after kk update...
But now i m not sure at all that the G can do it :silly:
can you please share your experiences with Moto g cast?

On latest kitkat, with root I was able to change the for mentioned build property, then I was able to enable wireless display and LG 660s TV showed up and I was able to duplicate my scree with around half a second lag perfectly. Afterwards however I was not able to reconnect, somehow it tries to connect multiple times and kills the previous connection. I read somewhere that it's the TV's fault, but I cannot be sure until I try out with an other one

[Q] Anyone using the Mi band with Moto G?

Well AFAIK the basic requirement to use it with a non xiaomi phone is Android 4.3+ and Bluetooth LE.

It works perfectly with my Moto G 2-nd gen / Android 5.
- mi band app is working, alarm, tracking
- call notifications are working
- smart lock is working as well
-- Best
Does it work with 2013 gen. too? Thanks.
Hi there,
I'm a little bit late but it might help somebody…
Just got the Mi Band (firmware v1.0.9.23) with a Moto G LTE 2014 (stock ROM, 4.4.4). I use the English tweaked version of the Mi Fit app (v1.3.912). Everything seems to be working (activity tracker, vibrate on phone call, sleep tracker and smart alarm clock and notifications).
I don't have the smartlock feature itself (since my phone runs on Kit-Kat) but Motorola has implemented a feature which seems to be equivalent: Trusted Devices (under the Security section of the parameters). It prevents the phone from locking as long as it's paired with a Bluetooth device.
There is a trick to get it to work with the Mi Band though. Once paired with your phone through the Mi Fit, your phone won't be able to see the Mi Band as a Bluetooth device. Open the Mi Fit app, go to Profile → Additional features → BLE Broadcast and turn it on. Now your phone can see the Mi Band as a Bluetooth device and you can set it up as a Trusted Device.
Hope this helps! ^^

My Gear 2 no longer works after upgrading from lolipop.

I own the Moto X 2nd Generation and used the Gear 2 smoothly, but after I updated to Android Lolipop the app no longer works, to open the Gear Manager app it stops working. I wonder what do I use Gear 2 again on My Moto X.
Ps: The first time I used the app lowering gear manager here in the forum.
I like your after updating a lollipop I can not connect with my Moto G second generation , someone will have some solution or signed app or something ?

Bluetooth stuttering/skipping - Moto G 16GB (2015)

I just got a new 2015 VW Golf and a new Moto G. Before the Moto G, I had a OnePlus One and it was having this problem as well. It's actually the reason I ended up with a new Moto G, because after two weeks or so of troubleshooting I couldn't figure out what was causing the problem. Immediately upon pairing the Moto G it's been having skipping/stuttering issues with Spotify and Youtube.
My first thought was that it obviously must be an issue with the car, but it isn't, as I've tried many different phones with the car (extensively) and they all work just fine, with the exception of the Moto G (2015) and the OnePlus One. I'm at wits end after having spent so much time on this issue.
Seems to be a compatibility issue between certain phones(or software) and this car(or multiple cars), but that some work just fine. The phones seem to work fine with other bluetooth devices, but just not this one.
On the OnePlus One here are some of the things I tried (there were a lot so I can't possible remember them all):
1. Repaired bluetooth
2. turned off wifi.
3. turned off bluetooth contact sharing
4. restarted device
5. hard reset
6. wiped data and cache in recovery mode
7. reinstalled spotify/wiped app date and cache.
8. toggled nu/awesome player in developer options
9. rooted/unlocked bootloader and flashed many different roms, some with CM12 base and some with out. I had heard Oxygen OS had less problems, but still didn't fix the issue.
10. Tried the ro.bluetooth.request.master=true fix in build.prop
11. av.offload.enabled=true to false
Is anyone else having this issue? There are a lot of vague threads out there about other phones and streaming issues via bluetooth, but I'm not sure what applies to this phone or what doesn't.
Some basic troubleshooting done on the Moto G
1. Repaired bluetooth
2. turned off wifi.
3. turned off bluetooth contact sharing
4. restarted device
5. hard reset
6. wiped data and cache in recovery mode
7. reinstalled spotify/wiped app date and cache.
8. toggled nu/awesome player in developer options
Any help would be great. Might just return the device if I can't get it working.
yeah, I have the same issue. Data and cache wiping in recovery mode sorted out for a couple of months but now I am getting the stuttering again. I use Bluetooth for all my listening and I hate this bug.
I have the same problem on my Moto G. Seems like some CPU/RAM issue since I've notice it got worse when I try to use any other program with spotify. But it's good to know that other ROMs don't work. I was about to test that.

Chop twice for flashlight on Moto Maxx xt1225

So I was messing arround with my build.prop ( have a moto maxx xt 1225) to change my phone model number so I could try something with my carrier. Didnt work but I left "Moto G" and "5.1" as my phone model and android version. Today I woke up and had a notification telling me how to activate the flashlight, I first thought that Moto app had been updated but it has not... So I´m wondering if changing my build.prop parameters was what activated that function ( MAYBE SOMEONE HAD DONE IT BEFORE BUT I DONT KNOW)
