Hi all,
Hoping this is an easy fix someone has seen before.
I have a used 16gb wifi version that I'm trying to update to 5.1.1.
The OTA download works OK, but when it says flash and reboot, the progress bar only gets about 20% along and then shows an "Error" message over the robot.
Wiped the download and redone the OTA a few times with same results.
Not so concerned about getting the update as I am in trying to figure out if the device is part of the recall or not.
I think that the system may have been loaded with a custom ROM by the previous owner but it looks to be put back to factory. Don't know if it is left in a weird state of locked/unlocked/rooted or not or if that should matter.
Thanks
Ron
Make sure you are getting the full update. Should be more than 700 mb. In system update click the 3 dots and select the full ota.
Resolved- Thanks

Hey, thanks.
I found this just before your reply by accident when my son wanted to try the update ONE MORE time and hit the 3 dots by mistake. Just caught the word "full' before the window closed and went back to give that a try.
All the other devices in the house are Nexus so this new device was a bit of an anomaly that I wasn't used to.
Update worked just fine but now looks like we wait for the recall replacement to come in

I received the prompt finally to update to 2.3.2 so when I hit the button and my phone rebooted I got the triangle with the ! inside so I had to do a battery pull. Any ideas why this happened and will the OTA come back? I never even received the new market ota either. I'm rooted and stock.

Many others have reported this and had a simple fix for it. Can't remember it but you should search.

I had the same problem just now, so I rebooted the phone and tried to update it manually. When doing it manually, it gives an error message telling me what went wrong. It turns out that the modified Gallery 3D apk that I installed was the cause of the problem. When I reverted to the original Gallery apk, the update went through without a hitch.
How did u do it manually? Flashing a zip file?

Actually its more like welcome to the cutting edge. There is a reason why manufacturers wait and do so much testing before releasing updates. Not to say google doesn't but the more people you have testing the easier it is to find problems and fix them.

Oh, yes, because it's so much better to wait 5 months for an update that only brings you to the last version of the OS which was released 8 months ago (like the Vibrant just now getting Froyo)...

Got a notification this morning that there was a new update available for KitKat. I do not know what the update is as I postponed it. I am currently running KitKat 4.4.2 Kernel version 3.4.0. The build is D80020c. I am rooted. I have no other information except that it shows that an update is pending but it will not tell me what the update is and I do not know where to find out what it is.
Anyone have any ideas as to what this is? I am concerned because the last time an update rolled out, it soft bricked my rooted phone.
I spoke with tech support at AT&T and they claim that they do not know what it is and suggested that I call LG for an answer.....

Don't install it, it jacked up my phone. I was running the rooted mixed partition D80020c and I can't boot or get into download mode now. All I get it a constant reboot back to recovery. Cannot install another ROM, cannot restore a backup. My daughter was playing with my phone and pushed to continue with the install and now I'm trying to unscrew it.

Is there any way to force a not install or deny it? The only option I have is to postpone the install and after 4 hours, it will run again and continue to run every 4 hours unless I find a way to break the cycle. How do I force a no install option?
That is what happened to me last time with the "q" update. I postponed the install (no option to not take it) and it installed itself after 4 hours when I left my phone on one night. I woke up to a bricked phone.....

I don't know how to permanently disable the update, but I'm sure there's a way. As info, I was able to easily fix my phone with the help of this thread posted by @thecubed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696. I didn't read it all, but this might be what disables the update.
I'm not rooted. I took the latest update and all is fine. It's google+ fixes and Google wallet support. It actually let me set up tap & pay! I'll have to go somewhere to try it out.

I got the notification too but figured that it would probably screw things up since I'm rooted and running TWRP so I did a little searching and came across this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50454408&postcount=3 . It's been a few hours since I changed the setting and haven't seen the update notification again although AT&T pushed the update into CACHE/FOTA sometime this morning.
Well scratch that, the notification just came back. I'll try freezing it now.
Well if rooted just use TB to freeze software update. I am also running a mixed partition D80020c. I am on Straight Talk AT&T. Before rooting I tried taking the official OTA of KitKat but for some reason you can't enter an APN type so I couldn't get or send MMS. So I flashed back to the D firmware, rooted, added custom recovery, entered the APN type and then flashed the modified C firmware. You could also use Root Freezer instead of Titanium Backup to freeze
The OTA update showed up this morning. I chose to delay it because I was going to need my phone. Went to update it later and it just would not download. Did a factory reset and now when I go to system updates it says "checking for available update." for about a minute then says "check for update is not available at this time. Try again later." What am I missing here?

there have been quite a few people with this same issue. i havent seen any direct fix.
if you are locked, i would suggest you wait it out, or wait for the sbf file to get leaked. there is a way to sideload it, but its risky being locked and no sbf to save you if a problem comes up.
if you are unlocked, there are directions in the General forum to sideload the ota. there is no risk if you are unlocked.
if you are locked, the only thing i would suggest to try is re-flashing the stock 9.30.1 with rsd and see if it will pull the update afterwards. there is no guarantee this will work, but your phone will be 100% clean stock after the flash and give you the best chance to grab the ota if available.

Did you download it and then said to apply it later? If so, are you rooted? If so, hook up your phone to your PC and adb shell into it. Type "su" and hit enter to go into superuser mode.
Navigate to the /cache directory and you should see the OTA .zip file sitting in there. Copy it to your external SD card and then you can load it manually via the recovery.
If you're not rooted, then you won't be able to navigate into the /cache directory. Or, if you didn't have it download when you got the notice (or couldn't download it), then it won't be there.
More update issues
My wife & son both have the HD. My wife checked for the update this morning, said it was ready and proceeded to download. Update did as it was supposed to and when it was done, she had KitKat and that's when things went a bit wonky.
If she has Bluetooth turned on, WiFi connection drops after a few minutes. She googled possible workarounds and none really worked. As long as she is not using BT, WiFi stays up
Has anyone else seen this behavior? She refuses to let me root it and install a custom ROM as I have done on my Samsung GS4 from VZW.
In the mean time, we've told our son not to take the update until
we know more about a possible fix.

Android V 4.1.2 worked flawlessly since Nov 1023 upgrade. Decided to upgrade to KitKat via OTH. Had WIFI connection issues right away ( inability to obtain IP or lost connection, etc.) This happened with Bluetooth ON or OFF, no difference. The Signal strength was much lower than when on the previous android version and subsequent indicated connection speed was at least 1/2 of what I was getting previously.
Worked with Verizon and Motorola tech support personnel and did multiple factory resets with no improvement.
Since I wanted a factory solution and had insurance on the phone, I ordered a replacement phone. Thankfully, the new phone had 4.1.2 and worked perfectly. WIFI issues are gone.
Conclusion, KitKat is not ready for prime time yet. WIFI bug needs to be worked out before I will upgrade again.

That's a shame because for me, the FDR fixed the Wifi/Blue-tooth issue as it did for many others. Might have been a hardware issue (faulty radio, etc).
Hey community,
after updating my 5.0 LTE 32 Shield Tablet some month ago and rooting it, I came to the conclusion that I don't really need root, but would like to continue receiving OTAs and have a device that just works.
Prio1:
Have a tablet with the latest updates installed.
Prio2:
As 1, but rooted.
I have made a apps+sysapps backup with Titanium.
What do you recommend as the next step?
Thank you very much.
All the best, Esshahn
Some additions:
1. I noticed I'm actually having 5.0 on my Shield. It's the 5.0.1 update plus the nVidia stuff that comes up all the time in the notification center.
I really just want to undo all root and whatnot actions and have a right out of the box experience on my Shield. I already did some stupid stuff (factory reset) and therefore lost my personal data anyway, so there's nothing to lose.
I noticed this forum isn't really active. If anyone doesn't know the answer, but could point me to the right forum for help that would be nice too.
Thank you
flash the full OTA through recovery: https://forums.geforce.com/default/...hread-released-2-17-15-/post/4464815/#4464815
then reinstall supersu through recovery, no factory reset needed
Thank you for replying.
I got annoyed by it all yesterday and flashed 2.1, now I don't have root or custom recovery anymore.
Now the fun part: When I want to update to 2.2 normally (since it's now supposed to be a standard device without any hacks), it just shows the error robot.
So now I'm stuck with 2.1 and can't move left or right.
After reading all those comments about messed up colors in 2.2 I'm wondering if its actually worth the effort to update?
Any idea on that Bogdacutu?
Thanks,
Esshahn

you can flash the full OTA through TWRP or CWM, no idea why it won't work with stock recovery though
the update supposedly fixes the graphics glitches that appear in various apps on update 2.1, that might be a good reason to update
Thank you!
Actually, since I didn't have CWM installed anymore, I just sideloaded the latest OTA, which worked nice.
Hi everyone!
I've just received and successfully installed a system update for Android 5.1.1 and it says exactly zero about itself. Even Android's version hasn't changed.
Does anyone have any idea what it fixes? I surmise it fixes two recent holes but 10MB sounds a little too much for that.
I also got but nothing happened

I got it, I'm updating manually since for some reason my phone never wants to update the regular way.
It addresses the Stagefright vulnerability
How can I apply this update manually?
It doesn't apply automatically - there are no errors, nothing. I've rebooted my phone three times already and it wants to install it again.

flash it through ADB
I use this thread as reference just to make sure I don't miss any step but there are a few others threads like this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/guide-update-rooted-device-to-5-1-lmy47d-t3050789
OTA install error
I got the OTA notification to download & install the Stagefright patch. Every time I try to install it, it says "error!" shortly after it starts to install and shows the android with a red exclamation point.
My nexus 5 is stock & unrooted.
Any idea what's causing this and how to force the install? If not, I can sideload OTA with ADB later tonight.
Thanks!
I think the build number should have changed to LMY48I.
