OTA error - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I received the prompt finally to update to 2.3.2 so when I hit the button and my phone rebooted I got the triangle with the ! inside so I had to do a battery pull. Any ideas why this happened and will the OTA come back? I never even received the new market ota either. I'm rooted and stock.

Many others have reported this and had a simple fix for it. Can't remember it but you should search.

I had the same problem just now, so I rebooted the phone and tried to update it manually. When doing it manually, it gives an error message telling me what went wrong. It turns out that the modified Gallery 3D apk that I installed was the cause of the problem. When I reverted to the original Gallery apk, the update went through without a hitch.

How did u do it manually? Flashing a zip file?

Actually its more like welcome to the cutting edge. There is a reason why manufacturers wait and do so much testing before releasing updates. Not to say google doesn't but the more people you have testing the easier it is to find problems and fix them.

Oh, yes, because it's so much better to wait 5 months for an update that only brings you to the last version of the OS which was released 8 months ago (like the Vibrant just now getting Froyo)...

[Q] Got an update prompt on my phone

I got my phone a few days ago and it came with ICS installed already on it. Well today I went to my settings and hit software update and there is an update out there for my phone but when I got to install it the phone reboots into CWM.
The file size is like 46551kb. Anyone have any idea what this update is for?

New T-Mobile ota?

Anyone else seeing this? I'm rooted so I can't run it yet but it looks pretty similar to the latest software version.
Hmmm. I'm using the latest trick, which is based on build 2.35.531.7.
Probably minor fix? Far out hopeful wish: It's the updated stock camera that's easier to switch between front and back cameras that the One X got. But most likely probably indubitubly not.

Just installed it on my wife's phone. I honestly don't see a difference. Still 4.04 and sense 4.1. Camera seems to be the same too.
Ugh, big fixes. So disappointing.

Any way to know what fixes? I wish they'd give us Sense 4.5 to play with while waiting til next year for JB. (My assumption. I never expected JB to roll out for the One X and S simultaneously.)
I am now installing. It stated overall system performance improvements and stability.
EDIT: DON'T FORGET TO USE VOODOO OTA ROOT KEEPER BEFORE DOING UPDATE!
EDIT 2:Congrats, your phone is now updated to version 2.35.531.10710rd
EDIT 3: Those looking for love for tethering when the screen goes off, guess what? Still no love, damn!

Did it update your H-boot, and Root Keeper worked? Thanks!
Edit: Never mind pulled apart the update provided above and there is a firmware update in it with HBoot 1.14.0005

Root keeper worked for me.
Has anyone noticed after the ota that people can't hear you during a call? Seems to be an issue with mine. It did however get left outside last night and was super humid. Any way to check for water damage?
When I use voice to speech it works fine so shouldn't it be the same on call considering it is the same microphone?
Cheers

After I download the update and select to install now, it reboots into twrp recovery and then I select the update file but when I try to flash it, it fails. I then reboot and as soon as it restarts it asks me to either install now or later. If I select Install now the previous steps occur again. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks

You have to be on the stock recovery, not a custom one.

most likely the bug fixes are to make things run smoother like changes in boot where stuff sometimes do not come on such as the auto rotate.
yes odd static during call but smoother overall
A lot of people lost 4g connectivity when they updated to 4.04, such as myself, so I'm back to Leedroid 4.03. Hopefully this fixes it for those of us.
I updated my One S with the OTA. All seems good to me (I am on stock and haven't tampered with this phone yet).
Anyone has any idea if this OTA is updating the hboot version? If it is updating the hboot version, this might be for JB update. If not, ignore this comment.

If you have .7 installed you cannot install this update. They're the same thing it seems. And it's rolling out til the 30th. JB def not coming this year.
If anyone has some time that took the update and could provide a TWRP nandroid it would be much appreciated.

Nexus 5 still no OTA lollipop update

Good day,
Well, my wife has the Nexus 5 and her phone still hasn't got the 5.0 lollipop update by OTA. Which is wierd. I would do the manually image update on her phone. But she doesn't want to loose her game saves and all that crap. I am in Canada. Anyone else in Canada not get the lollipop update yet as well? And is there a work around. Probably a far shot of a question.
Thanks
Lol is everything stock?
my friend is having the same issue
i rooted my buddies nexus 5 and flashed the factory google image for 5.0, now that the patch has come out he wanted me to revert him back to stock
so i took him back to 4.4.4 where he was before the factory image.
he wasnt getting the update.
i read somewhere else that the bootloader has to be re-locked for ota's to work so i did that too. still no update.
Got my nexus today, hoping for lollipop update, and it says 4.4.4 is the latest one :/

Yup. Her phone is stock. Nothing done to it.
I got kind of the same problem. Got my OTA notification maybe 3 weeks ago. I didn't want to upgrade the phone just yet, had been hearing some battery issues and wanted to fint out if it was worth to upgrade.
Today I decided I would do the upgrade since the 5.0.1 has been moved out, I thought that 5.0.1 would take care of the first bugs. But when I try to upgrade it says I have the latest version. I'm on 4.4.4 stock, no root.
I did hide the notification for the updates right after I got the first notifications for it, but I have been checking back from time to time to see that the upgrade was in fact still availible on my phone. It was maybe a week ago, but not anymore.
Does anybody know if I'm supposed to do something to be able to upgrade now, or should I just wait?
Thanks
Should just be a waiting game.

Don't know if your answer was to me. But if it was, do you know Why the update is gone now? Any reason for that?
Yeah something vent wrong
I had kitkat 4.4.4 on my neuxs 5 Rooted. so when OTA lollipop came i went back to stock rom and updated My N5 from 4.0 to all the way 5.0 Lollipop.
but i had to go back to Kitkat because no game hacking software is working with lolipop so i wen back to 4.4.4.
Now again i m trying to get OTA update for 5.0 (no root) its not not showing me in update its stuck on 4.4.4. and its says that my software is up to date.
I am from Toronto Canada. I guess OTA update is gone for CANADA.
Lets just wait.

Ya, I don't know why her phone hasn't gotten it yet. I may have to unlock the bootloader and do it manually!!!!

Problem is that if her bootloader wasn't already unlocked, the act of unlocking prompts the phone to erase all userdata. Which is why you should always unlock the bootloader right away with a phone before doing anything.
I've read on reddit, that maybe cause it's 5.0.1 out, we have to wait in line again for it to become available on our devices, the same reason is with the guy who dismissed his notification

Sorry yes it was to you. Because the updates are delivered in batches. If you ignore the update for so long, you go to the back of the queue until it's your turn again.
OTA Update
Hey guys let us know if OTA update working again or not cos 5.0.1 is released i think it should work now...
any one?
this still doesn't explain why my wife's Nexus 5 is still on 4.4.4 and hasn't receiving the lollipop udate as of yet. It's been out for a bit now. This is screwed up beyond beleive!!!

You could always just purchase one those backup apps like Titanium that does not require root and then save everything. This way you could do a manual side load.

OTA system is kinda of a lottery - either your device is a winner, or it isn't.
Just freaking get the OTA update zip and sideload it. You won't need to unlock bootloader for that.

Got mine a day later, was prompted to update to 4.4.3 followed by 4.4.4 immediately. No 5.0 or 5.0.1 updates yet but my nexus 4 is already on 5.0.1? Guess we'll have to wait.
OTA Update Working now
Hey guys OTA update is working now...
Were you previously under kitkat or did you get the OTA update from 5.0 to 5.0.1?
EDIT: Nevermind (at least for me), tired of waiting, I finally decided to manually load the OTA by following the tutorial here:
http://www.talkandroid.com/guides/b...on-your-nexus-device-download-links-included/
The funny thing is that after my phone was manually updated to 5.0, I automatically received the OTA for 5.0.1

Shield tablet 5.1.1 OTA Fail during flash reboot (WiFi)

Hi all,
Hoping this is an easy fix someone has seen before.
I have a used 16gb wifi version that I'm trying to update to 5.1.1.
The OTA download works OK, but when it says flash and reboot, the progress bar only gets about 20% along and then shows an "Error" message over the robot.
Wiped the download and redone the OTA a few times with same results.
Not so concerned about getting the update as I am in trying to figure out if the device is part of the recall or not.
I think that the system may have been loaded with a custom ROM by the previous owner but it looks to be put back to factory. Don't know if it is left in a weird state of locked/unlocked/rooted or not or if that should matter.
Thanks
Ron
Make sure you are getting the full update. Should be more than 700 mb. In system update click the 3 dots and select the full ota.
Resolved- Thanks

Hey, thanks.
I found this just before your reply by accident when my son wanted to try the update ONE MORE time and hit the 3 dots by mistake. Just caught the word "full' before the window closed and went back to give that a try.
All the other devices in the house are Nexus so this new device was a bit of an anomaly that I wasn't used to.
Update worked just fine but now looks like we wait for the recall replacement to come in

Question Android 12 update

Anyone that already got the update can comment any improvements or problems you are experiencing?
I have big battery drain with Android 12
My experience with Xperia phones is that there is often a period of increased battery drain the weeks after an Android version upgrade. Sometimes, I needed a factory reset to make it go away. But, I didn't have to do that when my 5 II went from Android 10 to 11.

Nope. And after the 12 update, phone doesn't get warm when charging
Any advice to get the update on the states?
I'm super curious how to get the update, OTA has nothing and the xperia app tells me I'm updated, but I'm still on Android 11 and https://xpericheck.com/XQ-BC52/23119804 tells me it's been out for weeks. I'm in Denmark so I'm guessing it's the right package in the URL.
Feel like a noob asking but it's super weird if they stagger it so long I think

True that. Also have the XQ-BC52, and I got the update via OTA about two weeks ago, I'm from Sweden. Really nice update since it seems like all the "heating issues" is gone now Now this phone is pure pleasure!

i'm afraid you are forced to flash your update via Newflasher. Probably you got my same problem (but with 5 II): your device don't receive OTA updates at all? If is this the case, then yes, you have to update it manually. Sorry.

Hi and thanks, my 5III did get two security updates so it's able to get OTA.
Interestingly enough the xperia companion also is stuck on Android 11 it seems telling me there is no new update...mmmm I'll wait a bit before trying to flash the official version manually

I made repair fon and get A12 from xperia companion. But its like a factory reset!
so I waited until the OTA update after Android 12 and that brought my 5 III up to 12 and on that OTA version so that was easier
Cheers guys !!
No issues with Android 12. Battery seems a little better. New UI is meh. Not a big upgrade, but not bad.
