A850 - another brick in the wall - Lenovo A850

Hi. My friend gave me Lenovo A850 device which is obviously bricked.
There is no action after power on, any vol and power. Only reaction is after connecting usb a red light lights up.
I tried tricks with connecting this to PC with and w/o battery with no success.
About two days ago i think (or it is just my imagination) i found a method of resurrecting this device with USB Jig used in Samsung devices but i cannot find it now (history is clear...hm.). Author was writing about connecting USB Jig And leaving phone for about 8 hours and than after connecting to USB it just woke up.
Does any of XDA members knows the post i am looking for or knows method of ressurecting this device?
What does this red led mean? charging? Or it's the Red light of death?
Thanks in advance

Well human breathren, I see thou hath some problem with thy phone. Hast thou consulted a service center?
From my inspection, your phone is resurrectable and (maybe) will work using JTAG method, but before you do that, A red LED light means that your phone can still recover from brick, via software I mean. I do not sure how, but there is.

When i connected JTag pin to ground the device woke up, i installed MTK drivers but after few seconds it just disconnected. I dont know how can i keep device online.

[Q] possibily bricked - bootloader broken

Hy to all,
my Nexus S one day decide to not power on at all!
SYMPTOMS:
- black screen
- power button doesn't do anything (also phone not vibrate)
- no button combination boots to download mode
- no charghing indication when connected to charger or USB
- no detection in the computer when connected to the USB
After some days without battery, the problem persists:
NEW SYMPTOMS:
- when plugged on computer usb port, Windows 7 start to find Sec S5pc110 Test B/D driver
In a formum of Bada (I now is not my phone) Samsung support tells that can be the bootloader broken!!
Someone can help me to solve my problem!
Thenks in advance, and sorry for my bad english
PS: my problem is similar to the one described in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882189
Well, did you do anything to it before this started? Anything like flash some new rom, or the OTA or similar?
There was another dude a few days ago who reported his phone was bricked and described similar symptoms to yours, but it turned out his issue was just a totally discharged battery that wouldn't start taking a charge until he forced it with some homemade 9-volt battery thing. You might try a different battery if you can obtain one.
The only other thing, besides warranty repair, might be to get the 301k resistor jig and use Odin to flash a new bootloader image to the phone, per this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=947950
Mate,
have you had any progress in unbricking your phone. I too am in the sam state with my Nexus S... unfortunately I can get this phone back to USA & when I spoke to the Samsung helpline the crooks simply refused to help since the instrument is outside of USA.
I'm in the same situation - did you get anywhere with yours ?

How did it get to that state?
What are the 5 contact looking things at the back of the phone for?
Sounds like you need to give the thing some charge, i'm sure one of those street corner shops can pop it open, macgyver some volts in, and reflash something that will boot for $30ish?
I'm not really sure, my power buttton is stuck but it retracts like a button should, but it has died and refuses to power up now. I just wanna turn it on to reformat it. or is it possible htc wont be able to turn it on themselves and when they receive it just trash the device?

so the battery is dead and it wont charge? if it will charge youll have to relock the boatloader and ruu to stock if u cant get in to recovery
Leave the phone on the wall charger (not USB) for several hours (overnight) and see if you can boot. You might also try to power on, or hold the power button, or try to enter hboot while the phone is plugged to the charger (after letting it charge for several hours). As at least one guy that I thought was hard bricked got his phone to boot this way.
What appears like spontaneous power off has happened to some people. So it may be nothing that you did. Hopefully, letting it charge for a few hours will fix it up.
I have the same exact problem as the OP. I have already made a thread and have tried to express my problems but I don't think people are willing to help (although some did and I appreciate it a lot) so I am going to try to get some help here. Help a brother out?

I had this happen. I left it on charge (from powerpoint not USB to PC) over night and then connected back to PC. It didnt start but the pc was telling me USB device connected and disconnected when long pressing power button.
after running RUU and changing bootloader I finally got it to work. I would try the latest RUU from US / ATT as it has newest everything and see how that goes.

I'm one of the folks who tried to help you in the other thread. Saying that you think people are unwilling to help sounds ungrateful and a bit whiny. Remember that the community here provides help for free, and that we also have lives and can't be on here to help you all the time.
Since you've tried charging (wall charger) for several hours, and tried (unsuccessfully) to get into bootloader, there isn't much else you can do. The idea of trying to run the RUU is a good one. But if you can't connect and can't run the RUU, the phone might be done. In particular, the blinking red light is not a good sign. I think there have been some other folks that have gotten this recently, and were not able to recover from it.
But keep trying to charge, and keep trying the bootloader button combo. The fact that your condition happened right after trying to restore a nandroid, leads me to believe its something that can be recovered from, and not a random hardware failure. But that is just a gut feeling, and maybe a bit too optimistic.
when my battery dies and i plug it up to charger led blinks red until it has enough juice to be powered on. you shouldn't try to power on your phone when it is blinking red, i assume that might end up killing the battery for good if you do.

What happens when you plug it in? do you get a battery charging icon?

When I plug the USB cable from a charger in nothing happens. Also when I tried it from a computer it didn't do anything. No sound from the computer either.
I have tried multiple cables too with no luck.

Sounds hard-bricked to me... I will let others who know this device better than me chime in.
With samsung phones and devices there is what's called a Dead brick. If your device is "dead" bricked it is savable by a USB Jig method. Not sure what it is just what I found on google for you so far.
EDIT: This is as close to the USB Jig method that I could find. If your device is "dead bricked" then this is what you will do. Video is on youtube.com/ just paste watch?v=0PAB6khykWE after youtube.com/
Also try galaxy tab 3 solutions since devices are similar. I found various videos on youtube relating to opening the back of the tablet and removing the battery ribbon then reconnecting.

[Q] Need Help Unbricking D801

I have now learnt my lesson - never flash firmware onto a phone after 1am! A tired brain can make simple mistakes far too easily. In this case, I accidentially flashed a version of TWRP 2.8.2.1 meant for a D800 onto my T-Mobile D801. So now the phone just sits at the LG logo with the LED slowly pulsing diferent colours until the battery runs out.
I have now gone through every thread I could find on this forum, as well as other places, about unbricking G2s. I tried opening the phone and shorting the test pins, as shown here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Muvcw5eVwH4 Visually not much changed on the phone, although now it seems to sit with the LED on red most of the time. I don't seem to be able to make it go into Download Mode, as it still sits at the LG logo (or is that normal with D801s?). I'm wondering if maybe I should try the shorting method again, but without rdisconnecting the battery this time.
Plugging the phone into a Windows 7 PC via USB, it installed two two devices, "LGE ANdroidNet USB Modem" and "LGE AndroidNet USB Serial Port". This seems to indicate that the device isn't quite totaly bricked.
Any idea where I should go from here? TIA

I had in fact tried several times unsuccessfully to use the method in that YouTube video to make the phone go into Download mode. However, this was not possible, as in this particular brick mode the phone never actually turns off. It stays in that mode until the battery runs out and then resumes in the same mode when there's any more charge in the batery.
I was eventually able to break it out of this mode by opening up the back of the phone and flipping up the battery connector (with the battery already charged). I then inserted the USB jack and held down the volume-up button, while reconnecting the battery connector, to power-on the phone. This trick made the phone go into Download mode and I was able to reinstall the stock firmward kdz file via the LG flash tool, as shown in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476

s7 hard bricked (qualcomm version)

Hi,
I flashed a rom that did something bad to my phone. After reboot it just stays black without any response at all.
I've tried all the key combinations and just tried the USB Jig (confirmed the jig worked on my S3) but nothing.
Is there any way to get into download mode?
I've heard about JTAG, but not sure if that will work.
First, try to connect the phone to your charger to see if any LED lights up, if this doesn't happen, try connecting the phone to your PC and see if ODIN detects the device, if that also doesn't work...the best course of action would be to send it in for repair, although chances are you've hardbricked it.

Possible it is stuck in some sort of loop, without having any LED to indicate it would be impossible to know
The charger doing nothing seems strange though
If you had an LED showing I'd suggest waiting for the battery to drain then trying to enter download mode again, but I guess if you've tried everything else and are considering opening it anyway for a JTAG, then disconnect the battery first, see if you can get back in after reconnecting it

Yea tried all that but no luck.
I will try for the JTAG, but need a heater I doubt a hairdryer will be enough to pull the back off.
Also need the JTAG machine itself
opened the phone and removed battery but still nothing, it seems JTAG is the only way.
anyone knows how that works?
Are you getting some sort of output?
I'm using the Exynos variant, I've yet to encounter anything that wasn't solved by holding power+vol down+home for 40-50 seconds (it'll boot to download mode eventually usually)

Tried for one minute and no result.
No output at all, nothing gets recognised in windows. No LED, no nothing...
Well, some users also reported sudden blackout with no response at all, it turns out it was an emmc failure. He then proceeds to send in his phone and luckily, it was replaced. Your mileage may vary, you could try playing "dumb" with Samsung. After all, with the phone dead there's no solid way to tell if KNOX was tripped.
