[APP][4.4+][Root]ToolWiz Privacy - Android Apps and Games

We are thinking of separating APP Freeze and Privacy Freeze and make two different Apps.
With ToolWiz Privacy you can still protect your personal info against big data tracking of APPs. In addition, we will add album locker to protect your photos from spying eyes and small tools to clear your browser history.
APP Freeze will be an independent APP aiming at extending battery life and avoiding big data roaming bills. We help you better manage your smartphone by killing background service of APPs and preventing them from auto-start.
What do you think of the idea? Your opinion is more than welcome.
---
Hey,
We are a small team focusing on android security and we developed a tool called ToolWiz Privacy. This APP aims to protect android phone users against data collecting and ads pushing APPs. Moreover, we want to help users extend battery life of their smartphones.
Now we have our beta test version(1.01) and we would like to invite you to join us and make it better.
ToolWiz Privacy has two main functions—APP Freeze and Privacy Freeze.
You can freeze your APPs so that they are completely locked and banned from being active or running in the background. The frozen APPs can only be opened from ToolWiz Privacy.
You can freeze your privacy so that APPs can only get access to your fake personal information. You can edit fake privacy info (fake phone number, location, IMEI…) yourself and block unwanted actions of APPs(sending and receiving text message, making and receiving phone calls…) in settings.
It’s the first APP in the world to help you to get rid of big data tracking and it makes your Android phone keep running for more than 20 hours without charging.
Check if you are able to use ToolWiz Privacy:

Does the privacy freeze allow me to prevent an app from sending notifications? Some apps send notification spam.

Of cause, you can go to app settings and check on the 'Block Notification Bar' item. And add the app into Privacy Freeze.Just try it!

Tried your app and unless I misunderstood you have 1 set of "fake data" used by all the apps....this is not going to work out well as you might want SOME apps to be able to get your real location but still be unable to send or receive text messages....or stop one app from sending notifications but allow everything else....ideally you need to be able to specify what needs to be faked per app. I also found various spots where the english text had "shadow" chinese characters behind it.
Finally autostart and background running should be considered seperate when "freezing"....I might have music apps I want to allow to run in background but NOT autostart on bootup......and vice versa I might have an app I want to run on bootup such as changelog droid that grabs the list of changes to apps that have been updated since last boot but NOT allow it to run in background. It looked like app freeze was an all or nothing thing.
Good luck with the app.

Thanks for your suggestions, we've updated a new version apk file in this post. And our developers are heading to solve the problem you've mentioned, configure different 'fake data' for every single app.Maybe you can see that in next version.
Actually when an app is frozen by our tools, autostart and background services can be configured separately.Just click the app you added, and you can see that autostart and services are list separately, moreover every background services can be configured as you want.

If you want some apps not running in background, just try it! And we'll do better!

This app has a lot of potential, so far so good.. I would like to also privacy freeze system apps tho , and also choose fake info specifically for each app, Like this app.. ???

Thanks a lot, freezing system apps and editing fake data for each app are already on our TODO list.
Maybe you can meet with them a few days later.

This is a promising application, but is there a way to ignore certain apps? It's annoying to see the red when I know the app that's in the red to be safe.

Really good software, but dev didn't handle move to paid version ethically; I kept the previous version backed up, thankfully!
h Disapointed. I tried this with Dinc Stock Froyo 2.2 and as soon as i rebooted and checked which apps where running with open advanced task killer, most of the apps I diabled (sipdroid, Qik, Backup and Package Tracking), where re-enabled. WTF
Maybe it doesn't support 2.2 devices?

useless thing!
you could have handled the "free" to "paid" transition a little better than forcing people to the paid version.
at least make a lite vs. full version, and could have transitioned what used to be the "free" version to lite version.
or make it a donation ware
you are abusing the Android Market listing by keeping it as a "Free" status when it obviously is limited demo
So....does it actually work?
So far I'm seeing no one that says this app worked and stopped certain apps from launching on a non rooted phone.....**** if it does that I'd pay for it

Why is xda featuring this on their homepage? Is that a paid advert?
Is there a way to try this without buying it?
This thing totally messed up my phone! After installing and configuring some of the apps not to run on startup, my phone started having FC issues. When enabled back and removed the app I found Google maps couldn't start anymore, Android marker couldn't either and other apps froze on launch. Thankfully I did a backup image before so I restored and never looked back at this app.
All this happened about a week ago. Be aware.

There is a trial version for seven days.
This is Only for 1.6 to 2.1 according to the website. Follow the link to the site gets you much information about product.
Is it 'free' or is it 'trial' ?
Why to buy such apps if you can get others with same or at least similar features for free, like autorun killer? And for unlocking more features you can donate. That´s much better done than with the app from this thread.

Hello DavidAndroid, I'm using your Startup Manager, and it works so far.
I have this application keep Force Close it self at some time back then, which I don't know why. I uninstall and reinstall it again, and it doesn't FC anymore. It works normal again. The trouble is that when I try to re-enable application that I already had disabled with your Startup Manager, it weren't there. It was not on the list of the applications in Startup Manager, I found that there is only applications with status enabled are there, but the disabled applications were not there. Can you help me?
Trial-ware is not allowed here.

Cool app, except for the app protection feature, which doesn't seem to work. Even after locking my apps, I can use them freely, it doesn't ask for the password...

Same problem I have. Anyone know a fix?
Sounds interesting. Will this app be avalible over the market soon?
Sounds very powerful. But a few screen shots as preview would be better.
Ive only been using this for like 5 minutes and i'm thoroughly impressed. Only thing i could think of to make this better, is some widgets and toggles, but regardless this app is AMAZING. Thank you.
Had this on for all of 2 minutes after seeing it recommended on another forum (word spreads fast apparently!!), love it!
Can see it replacing alot of apps for some people. Really well done especially for a first release.
Feature requests
- battery/3g usage widgets? This would mean I could kill another couple of widgets
- on the detailed data screen, it shows combined 3g/wifi data usage, can it be implemented so we can just see either 3G *or* wifi, rather than combined? Would be a good way of spotting rogue downloaders (of course the summary would still show that now, but it'd be easier to spot problems on 3g which is where it costs you $$ if things go bad).
Edit - just found a bug
2g/3g traffic -> more detail -> touch on an app and get FC of com.zdworks.android.toolbox, then goes back to main app summary screen.
HTH
Thank you very much for this *Great* App I'm lovin it!
Excellent work!
One thing, is it possible to have an increment of ONE minute in DO NOT DISTURB?
Then it would be perfect!
Cheers!
DAVE©
Brilliant.
Does it work in landscape? I would love to use it on my Streak.
Nice app. I've got a suggestion about the mobile network netcounter settings. The app considers only data per month. Could it be possible to customize it a bit more? I've got a data plan which gives me 50 MB per day (not per month) so I cannot use this part of the app because doesn't fit with my dataplan. Another nice thing could be to hide the standar battery icon (the one near the clock) when the Notification Icon si set to "Battery". Another nice thing could be the Ignore List in the Task Killer (there are some apps I don't ever want to kill).
Anyway I like it a lot!
This sounds interesting! I will give it a try and be back with feedback
Very cool application but it has some issues on my galaxy s , App Lock feature if enabled the application keeps crashing else everything seems fine.. Loving it

Tagy is a new bundle of widgets that organize apps, contacts, bookmarks and settings into tag clouds on your home screen.
Tag cloud items will change color and size based on click frequency, allowing important items to stand out and unimportant items to fade. So your favorite items will be highlighted for faster access.
Tagy Settings and Tagy Google Services are Tagy widgets that present shortcuts to your system settings and links to Google mobile services and apps as tag clouds.
Use cases
Tag cloud user interface lets you to::
• Instantly access your content without scrolling or browsing folders;
• Obtain insights about usage patterns by locating infrequently used content such as unused apps or inactive contacts as well as favorite items; and
• Save space – one tag cloud can contain five times more items than a regular icon grid.
Features
Tagy is very friendly to your system:
• It consumes minimum system resources;
• It does not affect battery life;
• It needs only basic permissions; and
• It supports custom launchers and themes.
Tagy also supports portrait and landscape orientation.
Tagy widgets are free (main widgets pack is trial).
To go to the Tagy download pages, please see the QRs attached.

Some might, not me. I use NoWallpaper (black) with just the color text.
New version will not let me update apps. I have three app screens, and do not want to enable new apps on all, so they are all unchecked. Then after I install an app, I cannot go to the app widget where I want it and add it.
I've just looked at it and it should add new apps to the list, but they will be unchecked if you uncheck the Add new apps automatically mark. Note that installed app needs to have a launcher activity (be present in your apps list) to be added to the widget.
Awesome widget, thx
Tagy_ said:
Old version has similar behavior. It's by design now, but we'll change it in the future. We thought that if you uncheck the Add apps automatically mark, then you don't want updates for that widget, but that's not how it goes for many users.

I do want to selectively add apps, but my choice, and not automagically (sic).
I've just looked at it and it turns out we've already implemented what I have described So you should see all your installed apps in the widgets apps list, either you turn the Autoadd option on or off. The only difference is when this option is off, the new app will be unchecked in the list. But note that installed app needs to have a launcher activity (be present in your apps list) to be added to the widget.
Can you specify what app does not show in the widgets apps selection? Or maybe you could try to install any ordinary app from the market and see whether it will show up.

It is/was GMail, flashed in recovery, GApps and an ICS alpha ROM. After some reboots it shows up, but then Play Store just updated itself and it is gone from Tagy and I cannot get it back.
It might be the alpha ROM doing it. I will try again when I restore my normal ROM and see.

Thank you for the feedback
First I want to thank you both for giving it a try, and providing the valuable feedback.
Catch (com.threebanana.notes) - Not sure if you are referring "Catch Notes Notepad", but it is reported as suspicious because of the boot on startup, record audio, internet access, getting a fine GPS location - which are enough to send your location, and phone calls to internet server. However the app seems stable and will be ignored in the next release.
XBMC Remote - (org.xbmc.android.remote) - Seems safe, listed in Warnings because of start on boot, read and receive of SMS messages. Will be marked as safe in the next release.
NoLed (com.led.notify) - reads GMAIL, reads & receives SMS, start on boot - apparently all permissions are needed for normal operations of the app as described. Will be marked safe in the next release.
GO SMS Pro (com.jb.gosms) - Full range of permissions - read, receive, SMS, MMS, etc., start on boot, record audio and network-based location.
The two that bothers me are record audio, and network-based location. With the abillity of sending and receiving SMS messages it can be used to return GPS location on received SMS to the sender of the SMS. I'm not sure if this is a feature ?
A new version that excludes the for apps above has been rolled on Google Play, and will be available for download in the next few hours.
Thanks once again for the feedback !
Yes. I was referring to the Catch Notes.
Here to consider google has permission on "record phone calls". Believe RECORD_AUDIO is actually needed to work with voice recognition. Seems a bit funky it is not separated into different permissions.
With XBMC I totally don't have problem marking as not spyware since sources are there.
With GO SMS Pro. Yeah, it is a feature for some. But pure GPS location is a bit useless unless filtered through location on a map or accompanied by nearby location.
Yes, you are right about RECORD_AUDIO. The 4 reported apps are already skipped from the scanner in the last version rolled on the market.
Here's the apk, because Google Play will roll it tomorrow I think
Nice app, reported Juice Defender, Desk Notifier and AVG Anti-Virus as suspicious. No biggie to me as I'm pretty sure they're safe lol
For anyone that cares:
PDroid offers an excellent solution to those questionable permissions for the rooted user.

Thanks ridethisbike !
Strange, but JuiceDefender has permissions to read sms, mms, starts on boot and also GPS and Network-based location ...
AVG Antivirus will be added in the ignore list at the next release of the app.
Cannot find Desk Notifier in the market. Is it there, or that's something custom ?
PDroid is great, just checked it out. I'm using MIUI, and the Superuser app has similar features

Seems that the JuiceDefender has this feature: "auto-toggle WiFi depending on your location" and that's why it needs GPS and Network-based location ...
A new version is rolled on the market skipping AVG and JuiceDefender.
Btw there's already a cracked fake version of the PRO version. Please note that installing the fake version can compromise your Android Device privacy. Also the fake version will not be updated, so you will miss SpyWare definition updates. If anyone needs a free version, just put the FREE one - it's an ad free app, and the new SpyWare definitions are rolled to it too.
Just gave this a little run and it came back with 3 suspicious apps.
HeyWire, SMS Backup and Restore and finally 1tap Cleaner Pro.
I have been using all 3 apps for a long time with no issues and I have never had any concern that they were suspect in any way.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium HD app
More than necessary and definitely a great idea
Great work

Remember that time when your device lost 50% of battery life during the night because a gazillion services from careless apps kept keeping your device awake and you have no way to disable them?
Or when Facebook kept waking up your phone for no reason and you find no way to fix it other than uninstalling it?
Servicely to the rescue!
First of all make sure you're ROOTED (it won't work otherwise). You'll be able to select which apps will be put to sleep when the display goes off. Just like magic!
You can also disable/enable permanently any service on your device. It's useful if you have services that tend to auto-restart and keep your device awake, or if you have games sending you never-ending notifications.
This app is somewhat powerful so act responsibly when using it. I'm more than happy to help if you contact me

The apk in the Play Store is free with ads, but I've disabled the ads for the apk below. You can still purchase the key from inside the app which helps me keep producing stuff for you, but you don't have to do so.
You can choose between two "sleep" modes. The soft mode I assume it's probably similar to what Greenify does. The hard mode completely disables the apps you've choosed during screen off, and re-enabled during screen on. This mode removes any shortcuts or widgets from those disabled apps, but this is the most secure way to guarantee those apps won't wake up or do something crazy. That said, you'll be fine with the soft mode.

Looks promising. Might replace greenify this little gem, thank you??
Enabled pro and start on boot but after closing the app an open it again, it shows this.
Should greenify be disabled/uninstlled before using servicely??
Really like this app! This is like the perfect version of greenify. And probably with more features to come. I was just wondering, is it save to add google play services to list? Or wil I loose allot of functionality with the apps that rely on google play services?
Will this also stop notifications from the app when you have it disabled? Like fb, instagram, xda and twitter?
@franciscofranco
Another possible improvement for your new app:
- With the pro Version there is the option to start the service automatically with the boot. If you boot the device there is no information like "set on boot service has been..." Dont know if you need this message on the boot like in FKU for you new app, but maybe you could make it as an option
and: if you close the app from the task manager, you see the normal action: app is restarting. After the restart the settings/killing apps applies again?
i instantly bought the pro version, before even using it
And if you add a new app to the service, it will be killed after 60 secs? or is first a reboot needed?
And if you kill an app like google keep, can the changes still be synced?
Sorry for the large amount of quetions, i´ve never used apps like this
wow... really like this... thanks franco
just a request for someone who knows... we can get a list with safe services to kill?

Yeah... does this have the background sync feature which I believe Greenify has??
Gonna try this for a while and replace greenify if it's better
Thanks
So if a service is idle, let's kill it every minute. The service restarts - which would come with a CPU/memory expense greater than if it had remained idle - and repeat this every minute?
This doesn't seem like an informed decision. It could just be a checkbox in an application's settings that would alleviate the service from repeating.
I don't see why you don't educate people on looking at application's checkboxes.
@franciscofranco I'm a fan of your work and this app looks beautiful. However, I have a pretty stupid question. How is this different from a task killer and automated killing? I thought those were bad, but is this different?
Turned it off for Google play music, google keyboard, Google play services, lmt. I ran into issues with app fc here.

no if an app is selected, it has nor background sync - tested it with telegram (btw with greenify donation it doesn´t work too...)
will test Servicely for a while and report back. If it does a well job, then goodbye Greenify
This app keeps closing apps that I'm using. I thought it only closes if the app is in the background? For example, I'm watching a YouTube video and it just closes.
Umm, this is essentially a task killer....
I don't understand the difference from a task killer. Task killers drain more battery. If it kills a service, it autorestarts, right? Or it is like greenify, keeps the service from starting?
I've tried this with whatsapp and didn't work. I know that is not suppose to kill services in the background, but what does it is suppose to kill? If it is not in the foreground, it is in the background... For an intense, having facebook installed, there is always a background service, this will never kill it, right?
It would be great if if would work better thank greenify, and stopping services from getting started.
Great work Franco! Testing now
I have Greenify, not sure if I'll use this... but purchased paid pro version to support Franco and his awesome Kernel (and other dev projects).
