Really good software, but dev didn't handle move to paid version ethically; I kept the previous version backed up, thankfully!

h Disapointed. I tried this with Dinc Stock Froyo 2.2 and as soon as i rebooted and checked which apps where running with open advanced task killer, most of the apps I diabled (sipdroid, Qik, Backup and Package Tracking), where re-enabled. WTF

Maybe it doesn't support 2.2 devices?
1. Fully support all android OS 1.5, 1.6, 2.0, 2.1 devices (Both rooted and un-rooted phones)

usually i'm uninstalling apps that i don't want to work in my phone.
useless thing!

you could have handled the "free" to "paid" transition a little better than forcing people to the paid version.
at least make a lite vs. full version, and could have transitioned what used to be the "free" version to lite version.
or make it a donation ware
you are abusing the Android Market listing by keeping it as a "Free" status when it obviously is limited demo

So....does it actually work?
So far I'm seeing no one that says this app worked and stopped certain apps from launching on a non rooted phone.....**** if it does that I'd pay for it

Why is xda featuring this on their homepage? Is that a paid advert?

Is there a way to try this without buying it?

This thing totally messed up my phone! After installing and configuring some of the apps not to run on startup, my phone started having FC issues. When enabled back and removed the app I found Google maps couldn't start anymore, Android marker couldn't either and other apps froze on launch. Thankfully I did a backup image before so I restored and never looked back at this app.
All this happened about a week ago. Be aware.

There is a trial version for seven days.

This is Only for 1.6 to 2.1 according to the website. Follow the link to the site gets you much information about product.

Is it 'free' or is it 'trial' ?

Why to buy such apps if you can get others with same or at least similar features for free, like autorun killer? And for unlocking more features you can donate. That´s much better done than with the app from this thread.

Hello DavidAndroid, I'm using your Startup Manager, and it works so far.
I have this application keep Force Close it self at some time back then, which I don't know why. I uninstall and reinstall it again, and it doesn't FC anymore. It works normal again. The trouble is that when I try to re-enable application that I already had disabled with your Startup Manager, it weren't there. It was not on the list of the applications in Startup Manager, I found that there is only applications with status enabled are there, but the disabled applications were not there. Can you help me?

Trial-ware is not allowed here.

Seems to make a bigger difference on resource hogs like the Sense UI. I tried it running MoDaCo's Desire ROM and it seemed to be faster. I don't notice as much of a difference on Cyanogen ROM's. I am still keeping it installed, even running CM. It hasn't given me any problems and the phone does seem pretty snappy (Although not much better than before, with the Desire exception).

you are right, of course i wouldn't post it here if it couldn't run on N1
post is fixed now.
Been using this the day I got my Nexus One. Does it work? I have no idea! I have no reference points to compare it with.
It's small though and certainly isnt causing any problems. Worst case it does nothing, oh well, best case it helps alot. Pretty sure thats a no-lose scenario.

Read my signature. 39 apps running and 0 apps running have the same responsiveness. Killing apps does nothing but free unneeded RAM.

Task Killers are needed, just not what some people are using them for. For example, the speedtest.net app has a bug where when you back out of the app, it still uses your gps draining your battery, having a task killer will allow you to close that program without having to reboot your phone.

Lol that's funny because that app is the only reason I use a task killer. It is definitely needed for killing apps with bugs but not for keeping apps out of the RAM for no reason.

unfortunately there are many applications which cannot sleep properly, or don't release resources. (the most annoying I met with was TasKiller itself!!!) if you have the time to find out which are these one bye one, you can kill them any time you finish using them. but if you don't want to mess with this, setting lowmemory killer is the best approach as a fix.
"free" memory is not useless: it is always filled up with cache of your most used applications. so you get resource-consuming applications killed, and got cache with preloaded data your phone will probably use.

Does running Advanced Task Manager alongside this app make sense? Is it redundant, helpful or hurtful?

You can just use the built in task killer to do that... menu, settings, apps(programs in a Desire ROM), manage apps, select the app(might want to hit menu, then select running apps only)... then force stop.
Granted, a task killer makes it quicker and easier to bring this list up, but it calls on the built in task killer to actually kill the task.
To the OP, great work! Looks nice! The ability to change how aggressive you want the auto task killing is nice to have, and it is nice to have eye candy when killing a rogue app. All though I don't ever use these sorts of apps, I like what you have done with yours!

FAQ
What is freezing an app?
Freezing an app is a process that put an app hidden state in Android OS. All data is reserved. Therefore, a frozen app does not use any run-time resource (such as CPU or memory) and consume zero-battery. This option should be chosen if you would keep an app, but do not use it or try to test an alternative app. A frozen app can be defrosted later
What is defrosting an app?
This is a revert process of freezing that brings a frozen app back to Android OS. Some apps need reboot your device in order to effectively defrost.
What is backing up/restoring an app?
Backing up an app saves a current version of that app source (i.e. .apk file). Currently, backing up data will be supported soon. Restoring an app will overwrite the current app’s version by the backed up version. This option should be chosen if you want to test a new version of an app.
Which caches will be cleared?
This app attempts (I said attempt) to remove different caches on your devices. Currently, App Manager {root} supports three options: clear system caches, clear caches on internal storage and clear caches on SD card. There options can be enabled/disabled from setting button on Overview tab.

Good job ! Downloading now...
I'm down with this; I've been looking for something to freeze apps for a whle.
A question: is there a difference between the free and paid versions in the market? Ads, or just the satisfaction of contributing to the cause?
But I'm not sure how "angry bird, robo defense, sims" relate to this app... is this to make this app show up when someone searches for Angry Birds?
In theory this sounds a great idea. Will download and give it a try. Very good idea. Works great. Like the freezing thing. Useful on N1 with C7 as RAM is at a premium now.
It looks very interesting but what has it more to offer than titanium backup pro?
many many thanks. already installed on my phone. thank you
Very big thanks, this works great on my EVO! Again Thank You.
This app totally messed up my phone a while back. I downloaded it & opened the app (granted su) but didn't do anything with the app. All of a sudden, every system app started force closing. I couldn't open the market or settings to uninstall because they would force close before they even opened. It took me a couple of minutes to get through the force close popups, then I finally opened Titanium backup & uninstalled the app, then restarted my phone. After restarting the phone, the apk for this app was in /system/app. I deleted it with root explorer. I then just decided to wipe & restore from a recent backup. I really thought this app was a scam until I saw this post.
Has anyone else had any issues with this app?
nice...downloading now
That's great!!! I couldn't download any app except this one.
I cleared the cache and voila: I can download other apps!
Nice App. I wonder if it is possible to implement a feature.
The android OS is dynamically allocating ram to apps and then let them "run" as a background process, making them launch faster. When you open an App that use a hell lot of ram (like the browser), it seems like android kills these background processes on a random basis to free up ram to the foreground application (i.e the browser).
Will it be possible to make some kind of priority list, so the user can define what processes should be killed first?
Example: Handcent SMS is kind of slow to start up on my SGS (dohh) unless it is already loaded into the Ram. Since I use Handcent SMS a lot, I would like it to stay in the Ram for a faster launch, unless I launch a program/game that needs the entire amount of ram on my device.
Thanks
NIce, congrats.
Some info about.
Can I use it to remove system app too??
I have a rooted Desire, work fine on it??
And, about Nand (Im a newbie), how can know if I have an unlocked nand?
Thx
PS. I have bought a used rooted phone.
@ kbkrogs AutoKiller Memory Optimiser does exactly what you asked for. It classifies apps to rate their priority for clearing from RAM. You can assign a "lower oom value" to individual apps to give them a higher priority for keeping loaded. The developer has a good explanation on his page how this works.
Thanks. Did not know that
Would be great to have a save app feature for market links to set it more apart from Titanium. Check out appSaver on the market.
If you uninstall and reinstall you will lose the ability to find and restore frozen apps. You would think an app manager would have backup settings.

Question: Do app backups re-establish Market links when they are restored? IMO this is one of Ti-Backup's strongest features

App worked great the first time installed it. The System Scan was excellent, but it has stopped working and using the System Scan causes Force Close. All the other tools are great, but this especially useful tool is causing FCs no matter what I try. Any advice on getting it working?

Improve Performance Of Your Android Device With All In One Toolbox

With daily use, your Android may suffer specific yield losses due to overloading or increased my junk files. With All in one Toolbox, improve that performance immediately can be as simple as pressing a button on the screen of your Android.

According to statistics, every day more than 4 million apps are downloaded and installed and on average, each user installs between 25 and 30 new apps on your Android , in addition to those originally used to include the manufacturer or network operator.
Although these data do not imply that all these apps are used at the same time, if shows that, even in a timely manner, the processing power of your device can be seen collapsed by the simultaneous use of several apps or Storage Space can quickly be consumed because of temporary files and junk files generated by all those apps that you have installed on your Android … and even some you’ve deleted.
The use of this application can solve this problem and, on this occasion, I want to show the effectiveness of one of them: All in one Toolbox .
Imagine that all the inhabitants of your city decide circulate simultaneously on the same street. Probably they cause a significant bottleneck both on the street in question, and in adjacent.
Well, something similar happens in your device when you run multiple apps simultaneously, the processor capacity collapses to solve all requests.
This breakdown does not always occur because of poor management Android RAM , in most cases is the lack of optimization of the apps themselves that cause the collapse.
In this situation, it is best to close the least important step to give priority to those which are actually using. With All in one Toolbox that is as simple as touching a button.
Start by finding and installing All-in-one Toolbox in Google Play and start the app.
In her internal storage capacity and its use is shown, the use of RAM and storage of the user. Then you can choose between two alternatives with the same result. The first is to touch on the central indicator of RAM and immediately start optimizing your Android to give higher priority to services that require more resources.
The second alternative is to touch the icon Empowerment . Then analyze the apps that are loaded into RAM and will propose closing the least important.
At all times you can uncheck any of the select apps to avoid arrest. Then click on selected Detention and indicated my will stop giving higher priority to other to speed up performance and responsiveness.

2. CLEAN THE JUNK FILES FROM YOUR ANDROID
Another important aspect which also affects, to a lesser extent, the performance of your Android are junk files.
These files are usually residual error logs apps, temporary files or orphaned and forgotten after uninstalling the app. These files slow down the overall system performance because it must spend resources to organize and manage thousands of files you really are useless.
Perform periodic cleaning of these files helps to improve the performance of your Android and recover some of the lost storage space.
Doing so is as simple as the optimization process that you have seen in the previous step.
Touch the icon Clean and analysis of files will start. The results are classified into several categories depending on their nature.
Among them it is common to find files cache apps, temporary files or even obsolete remnants of uninstalled apps or longer.
Tap on a category to check that indeed everything that has been detected can be removed and is not included any documents you want to keep.
If everything is correct, click on Clear and the selected files will be deleted.
3. A BOX FULL OF TOOLS FOR ANDROID
In addition to the options to optimize the use of RAM and storage space , All-in-One Toolbox has some additional features that allow you to better manage your files and applications on your Android.
As its name suggests, All in one Toolbox is a complete toolbox that in addition to optimize the system , allows you to manage installing and uninstalling apps , backup or control apps auto start with the system .
To access these additional tools, tap on the icon guides . Here is a list of the various tools available is displayed.
One that have seemed more attractive is what allows you to customize the apps that are started by the system. Tap on the tool ON .
Then the tab User Apps, shows you a list of the applications you’ve installed and that are started by the system when you turn on your device. If you want to speed up the start of your Android , switch off the you do not need. You can also disable the start of some apps built into the system.
Go to the tab System Applications and disables do not use.
Pay special attention to disable the apps in this section, as some of these apps are essential for the correct functioning of the system. If, for example, you use the app for Gmail to manage your mail, you can disable the start of the native Mail app Android since it will not be of any use.
This is not Disabling the app, just you prevent it from loading into memory at startup.
4. INSTANT CLEAN YOUR ANDROID PHONE
If you want to further reduce the steps to optimize your Android , you can create a shortcut to the optimization options or cleaning .
To do this go to the respective sections in All in one Toolbox and click on Options . In the menu that appears, tap on Create a shortcut and a new shortcut on your home screen is created.
Clicking on it will run directly the task of optimizing or cleaning without starting All in one Toolbox.

[APP][4.4+][Root]ToolWiz Privacy

We are thinking of separating APP Freeze and Privacy Freeze and make two different Apps.
With ToolWiz Privacy you can still protect your personal info against big data tracking of APPs. In addition, we will add album locker to protect your photos from spying eyes and small tools to clear your browser history.
APP Freeze will be an independent APP aiming at extending battery life and avoiding big data roaming bills. We help you better manage your smartphone by killing background service of APPs and preventing them from auto-start.
What do you think of the idea? Your opinion is more than welcome.

Hey,
We are a small team focusing on android security and we developed a tool called ToolWiz Privacy. This APP aims to protect android phone users against data collecting and ads pushing APPs. Moreover, we want to help users extend battery life of their smartphones.
Now we have our beta test version(1.01) and we would like to invite you to join us and make it better.
ToolWiz Privacy has two main functions—APP Freeze and Privacy Freeze.
You can freeze your APPs so that they are completely locked and banned from being active or running in the background. The frozen APPs can only be opened from ToolWiz Privacy.
You can freeze your privacy so that APPs can only get access to your fake personal information. You can edit fake privacy info (fake phone number, location, IMEI…) yourself and block unwanted actions of APPs(sending and receiving text message, making and receiving phone calls…) in settings.
It’s the first APP in the world to help you to get rid of big data tracking and it makes your Android phone keep running for more than 20 hours without charging.
Check if you are able to use ToolWiz Privacy:

Does the privacy freeze allow me to prevent an app from sending notifications? Some apps send notification spam.

Of cause, you can go to app settings and check on the 'Block Notification Bar' item. And add the app into Privacy Freeze.Just try it!

Tried your app and unless I misunderstood you have 1 set of "fake data" used by all the apps....this is not going to work out well as you might want SOME apps to be able to get your real location but still be unable to send or receive text messages....or stop one app from sending notifications but allow everything else....ideally you need to be able to specify what needs to be faked per app. I also found various spots where the english text had "shadow" chinese characters behind it.
Finally autostart and background running should be considered seperate when "freezing"....I might have music apps I want to allow to run in background but NOT autostart on bootup......and vice versa I might have an app I want to run on bootup such as changelog droid that grabs the list of changes to apps that have been updated since last boot but NOT allow it to run in background. It looked like app freeze was an all or nothing thing.
Good luck with the app.

Thanks for your suggestions, we've updated a new version apk file in this post. And our developers are heading to solve the problem you've mentioned, configure different 'fake data' for every single app.Maybe you can see that in next version.
Actually when an app is frozen by our tools, autostart and background services can be configured separately.Just click the app you added, and you can see that autostart and services are list separately, moreover every background services can be configured as you want.
If you want some apps not running in background, just try it! And we'll do better!
This app has a lot of potential, so far so good.. I would like to also privacy freeze system apps tho , and also choose fake info specifically for each app, Like this app.. ???

Thanks a lot, freezing system apps and editing fake data for each app are already on our TODO list.
Maybe you can meet with them a few days later.
This is a promising application, but is there a way to ignore certain apps? It's annoying to see the red when I know the app that's in the red to be safe.
