I recently wanted to update my rooted Nexus 5 from android 4.4.4 to android 5.1.1 and in doing so, I needed to wipe my phone. Before I did, I created a full system backup using TWRP. Once I wiped the phone I logged into my google account to retrieve all my photos which was successful. I then updated my phone multiple times to reach version 5.1.1. My photos were no longer there even after I logged into my google account. Is there any way I can retrieve my lost photos/videos through the TWRP backup, or via any other method. I lost over 1000 photos, please help.
Thanks.
1. In twrp recovery backup existing system, data and boot.
2. Restore old backup of system, data and boot.
3. Reboot to old system. Get whatever things you want on your PC or sdcard.

I have a Nexus 6P, rooted. Previous to Marshmallow I used to be able to restore my apps/data/settings pretty easily with Titanium, but now it's a pain. What I want is to be able to perform a clean image install when updates come out, then flash TWRP, install Titanium, restore my stuff, move on. But now it's a headache. If I try to restore any system data (call log, anything) Android starts force closing the associated app/service. Can anyone steer me in the right direction?
Why titanium if you have twrp :/ twrp can backup everything fine, faster and easier. Data, cache partitions thats it.
Hello,
I am trying to figure out a way to restore a backup I have under my Google Drive "Backups" section. Specifically, it's an SMS backup I took and forgot to use the restore option during the initial setup of my phone. I do not want to factory reset my phone as I've done a lot of modifications to it such as flashing, rooting, etc. I tried an app called SMS Backup and Restore but that didn't work as I'm assuming it's only for new backups you take using their app.
If you know of a way I can retrieve the SMS messages from my Google Drive backup without having to do a factory reset, that would be great.
Thanks!
TL;DR: How to fix Titanium Backup error 3 while flashing "update.zip" from TWRP?
I have been using Android for more than five years now seriously and it is a bit funny that I did not know I could restore data to newly flashed ROM.
Previously, I would just wipe system and flash new ROM not touching data partition and that worked just fine.
That is past seems.
I have flashed new ROM which is based on stock Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus ROM so I could get official updates. The problem is my phone lost one fifth of its performance according to benchmark and it experiences random reboots (I hope not while I am typing ?)
All in all, by restoring previous data on new ROM some of the files seem not to be overwritten well on new ROM (possibly application versions not getting downgraded well).
LogCat did not help.
I deleted my data (I have backup of course) and my system works normally so it is a data problem.
That is where Titanium Backup came into play.
I made backup of all user applications and an "update.zip".
When I want to flash "update.zip I get error code 3.
Some say it is due system partition but I formatted it in couple of manners and I am still unable to restore.
Is there any other way to restore applications and its data to new ROM?
I have tried backing up the applications and moving the Titanium Backup folder to SD card and moving it back when I flash new ROM. Backup does not get detected.
Thank you in advance!

When switching ROMs, restoring data from a previous ROM causes issues, especially when the data contains system data and apps from the previous ROM, user apps and their data usually restore fine, but the system stuff doesn't.

Solved using Migrate.
So I made an oops, *sadface*. Though I'm glad I backed up the important stuff before I went from OOS to LineageOS. I decided to see how RROS was with Q, So I downloaded needed files, and I proceeded with what I thought was necessary. RROS 8.1.0, proper gapps. Had Magisk and TWRP on phone already, so I did factory reset, install RROS, TWRP -> reboot TWRP -> flash GApps, flash magisk... Clearly something went wrong as my phone went default encrypted with no way to decrypt it. Apparently I had to wipe the data and start out freshy fresh. So, what did I do wrong? How could I have avoided this? I've done some research and it seems that with the A/B partition, format data is required? If that is so, so be it. I'd just like to know if there was an alternative way to switch ROMs without having to backup all data and restore it after formatting data. Way more hassle than I anticipated.
Imo, there is no way to change custom rom without formating data, otherwise your storage will end up encrypted. I am just using automatic google backup for apps, settings, wifi, call logs and sms and google photos for images and it works great. You dont need to take care of it at all, just set it and it will automatically backup all your data periodically and when you swith to the new rom you will have choice to restore all of the above from your backup during initial setup.
Hi,
My OP6 is unlocked, running TWRP (3.2.3-0) recovery and magisk. I didn't flash zips for about 2 years, and I actually don't even remember what magisk version or what OOS version I run...
Today my phone suddenly restarted while using some navigation app. Since then, every time I turn it on it boots to OS but immediately shuts down and reboots to recovery (TWRP). I just can't boot to system. I can boot to trwp or fastboot. Both slots yield that behavior.
My phone used to restart every now and then, but this is the first time that it won't boot to system afterwards.
I got a 2 years old twrp backup (system+boot), if it can help.
Do you think I can somehow boot to system (preferably without wiping data)?
And if not, is there any way to transfer data from the phone to pc? (I couldn't make my pc recognise the phone)
Thanks
Try timing it just right before your phone starts up again with holding power and vol down button so you can get into TWRP. You then should be able to see your phone on your PC to back up.
Sounds like your data might be corrupt.
I am able to enter twrp, just the data is corrupt somehow.
So I spend a whole day fixing it:
1) Created a nandroid backup of the current (unbootable) state - this will just backup my applications data
2) Wiped data+cache from twrp (factory reset)
3) Now it boots normally, but all data is gone (I also copied the nandroid backup to my pc just to be safe)
4) Flashed magisk
5) Installed all missing apps using some Nandroid Manager app
6) Restored the data of all those apps using titanium backup ("restore from nandroid" option). Note that TB couldn't restore the apps+data, I had to preinstall the apps for it.
7) Remember to create snapshots and backups more frequently
Thanks!

Glad it, worked out. I actually use migrate app from the playstore. Always make a backup and keep it on my PC . Restores everything .
