[Q] Restoring Monster Strike from a root backup - General Questions and Answers

Hello guys, I am a player of Monster Strike (MOS) Japanese version, and just having flashed a CM 12.1.
I have a backup of MOS by J-rummy’s ROM toolbox, however MOS disables me to recover.
MOS needs us to backup only by G+ and I have no backups to my Google account.
Have any guys also attempted to recover MOS by a root backup? Thanks interacting and reminding.

If it doesn't restores by the respective backup tool you backed up from, and as you are telling that it needs G+ to backup so possibly there's no way of recovering your old data. All I can suggest you now is start from the beggining and keep the g+ backup incase anything wrong happens or you need to change rom.

Also, I recommend Titanium backup in the future.

MOS has stated G+ is the unique measure backing up, Titanium is thus also failed to restore.

Nicely I have a backup in the firmware by TWRP, I can just login G-games on firmware to take out my old account.
Btw a new game account is now present before awaken to the above backup by TWRP.
Also I have an One V recovering the data from G-games in 1 of my 2 MOS accounts, I can thus be in a MOS co-op with myself.:highfive:

[Q] How to restore my apps & settings after flashing ROM

I just finished restoring my Samsung Galaxy SIII after jumping into the latest Verizon OTA without checking it out first. (Mistake!)
I like what I have now, but would like to see if a custom ROM might be a little less loaded with Samsung and Verizon bloat. I am not interested in tons of more tweaking options, just good wireless reception, and UI quickness. I do NOT want to repeat reinstalling all my apps from scratch, and setting them up again. I am rooted, unlocked, have TWRP, Odin, Titanium Backup Pro,Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper. Can someone help make the transition into a new ROM as pain free, and easy as possible. Once again, I'm not asking about how to flash the ROM as much as I am asking about getting up and running after flashing. Thanks for your time and help.

Dear tgrobi one has to restore only data not the app as the app might clash with the contact app of one's new rom so what is advisable is to only restore data also titanium will give a warning message that restoring the app will not work properly and eventually result in a FC
It happened with me.....:crying:
U must do a backup first using titanium backup.

You have to download app saver in the market. And backup your app. App saver make your app become .apk. Then just backup your .apk to your sd cars.
Hopefully it helpa you

^^^This.
I have titanium backups and mess around flashing numerous roms.
Apps and their settings can easily be restored by making backups with titanium and restoring apps and data.
You can also save your contact list with it but if you have a google account and sync enabled your phone will restore contacts from your google account.
Is the Titanium Backup still a good advice now, after 8 years since this thread was started? I'm going to migrate my Moto G "falcon" from 4.4 to 7.1. I do have a paid version of Titanium Backup. Thank you!

[Q] Restoring Titanium backup

Hi,
Before changing ROM from stock to Paranoid Android, I did a backup with Titanium and restored everything successfully. The only thing that I can't restore are the contacts. A popup tells me that it was done with a different ROM, but I ignore the prompt, and continue with the restore. However the contacts are not shown in my Contacts app or in the telephone directory. Unfortunately with the stock ROM I hadn't synched with Google, so I'm asking for any ideas how I could get this backup to restore... One option maybe is to go back to stock, do a Google synch, and then move back to Paranoid Android, but that would involve too much work... I don't know maybe the Titanium backup could be converted so as to be readable in Excel and I copy them manually??
Thanks for your help!
Try another tbkp version...
Me too, but now i use google contact and my contact already restore after login in playstore

Hi, what do you mean using another Titanium backup version? The backup was done with the same Titanium version. The problem is that it was made with a different ROM and wouldn't restore in the new ROM.

Moving to a new ROM

I've been using RobbieL811 Uber rom for quite a while but now development seems to have come to a halt. A couple of posters say move to a new ROM so I tried Resurrection Remix. I don't have time to move my data (Inc save games that don't cloud save) individually, so I Googled the best way to do this. I got a load of 2013 posts about restoring the data partition from the nandroid backup. After installing RR and restoring the backup of the data I just get boot freeze. Is there something I'm missing?

I don't know who said to restore a data backup from a nandroid, that's wrong, it's a huge no-no. The data backup includes all data from the ROM, not just apps, so it's attempting to restore incompatible system settings and stuff like that. You can just use Titanium Backup to make backups of your apps and then restore them after you've flashed your new ROM.
Yep titanium is what u need

Thanks for your assist guys, tried what you suggested and it worked! Until I rebooted. Now it just boots for ages. And nothing else. I've unselected any system apps.

Exactly what did you do? You need to provide a detailed account of everything that lead to this point. What did you restore with Titanium?
I did two over the course of the night, the first I restored everything, including system apps like dialler, Gmail etc. But this broke it. So I wiped, installed, and restored only missing apps and data. Still broken on reboot.

You can't restore system apps/data, that's why it was borked the first time. It's also possible that you restored system/app data the second time too. Only ever restore user apps.

After using titanium to restore user apps and data, some apps just force closed on opening unless I removed the data then it worked. Decided to restore from backup and give it up until 6.0 rom appears.
Make sure you start with a clean slate. Factory reset and flash new Rom before restoring any backup. Are you good up to that point?
I don't know what you're doing wrong man, I change ROMS every now and then, and I just backup my games and apps with Titanium Backup, install new ROM, and restore my apps, always works unless you mess up real bad
titanium backup pro (worth it for flashaholics) or zipme

i have never had that issues on 5 different phones and multiple different roms... try rom toolbox or zipme
Finally gave it one last ditch attempt (well two, actually).
Tried flashing Sultan Cm12 rom, but it unroots the device so bailed on it.
Put latest Resurrection Remix on, restored user apps but was more careful about when I restored. Mostly Google apps and some xposed apps, some Robbie rom stuff that wasn't needed and voila! Posting this from a working rom! Had to reinstall xposed framework and Waze from scratch but that's fine.
Thanks for the support guys!

I'd start with OnePlus' official app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oneplus.backuprestore
I'm sure there's other 3rd party solutions out there.
Here's a couple of lists to peruse:
https://www.tomsguide.com/us/pictures-story/633-best-android-backup-apps.html
https://www.androidauthority.com/best-android-backup-apps-and-other-ways-too-608014/
I myself don't backup anything other than my Google account/apps, but, it makes sense to use the mfgs own tool & wouldn't hurt to use others as well, see which method(s) do the best job.
Problem with OnePlus switch is that it takes backup locally. What if I need to install a custom ROM and then restore my backup ? How can I do that as I have to factory reset my phone for it.
Have you followed this guide for fixing Android backup?
https://www.xda-developers.com/android-backup-google-drive-broken-how-to-fix-manager/
Just so you know, it can take some time before the backups succeeds after applying this. For me it succeeded one day later.
I used to use titanium backup but when I got on OnePlus 7 pro titanium would stop working when restoring so I switched to swift backup and it works really smooth and just the other day I did my first restore from swift (with root permissions) and it did really well getting accounts logged back into and everything. I only had a few trouble apps that I had to clear data and re-log into but otherwise went unexpectedly smooth

Migrate does the trick easily.

Question Root without phone resetting? Or backup app+it's data via adb or similar?

So I'm changing phones, but there's one app which I would have to backup including it's data. If I'd be rooted I could use Titanium Backup, unfortunately I'm not rooted.
Is there a way to root without wiping the phone or is there another way to backup the apps data (and restore) via adb or something else?
Google backup and restore is pretty good, it should restore your apps

But I need the actual data of the app, does that come with Google backup and restore?
App in question is WhatsApp and I need the app including the registration etc on the new phone. Titanium backup can do that, but obviously needs root
Whatsapp has its own backup and restore feature I use it all the time. It will restore all your data, chats etc but you have to log in first

I know... that's exactly the issue though. I'm asking for a way to backup 1:1 so I don't need to do the login. Which Titanium Backup can do since it's does it with all the apps data, but that obviously needs root which I don't have. Hence I'm asking for help here.
I found this which doesn't need root not sure how deep it goes though
How to fully backup and restore your Android device without root
One of Android’s little-known tricks is its built-in backup and restore process that allows users to save their private data...

For that I'd need a way to remove everything from the backup besides WhatsApp though. As that does a backup and restore of everything, all apps, all file system etc IIRC
Trying adb backup now, there seems to be a java tool that allows you to open the backup file on pc

Unfortunately WhatsApp wasn't included in the full backup for some reason
I just tried an app on play store called Swift Backup and it worked!
I made a backup of just whatsapp then deleted it and it restored it without signing in

I'm living in the UK for a few more months, but still use my German number on WhatsApp. The number has since been retired so I can't get SMS/calls on that one anymore, so I'm unable to sign in.
I wish I would've rooted the phone....

Is that the Samsung moving phones thingy? Does that move apps including it's data so you don't have to set them up again?
I usually avoid the moving data from phone to phone during setup, because I take setting up a new phone as an opportunity to clean up data/apps. So I only reinstall those I actually need
EDIT: Just tried it, sadly not:

Backup with ur whatsapp. Its too easy. Anyway, in case u cant do it, think u have to reset only single app (whatsapp - like ur screenshot), so u cant?

As mentioned in here, using the backup inside WhatsApp still needs you to sign in again on the new phone which isn't my goal. I want to backup ALL of WhatsApp including the sign in, so I can just move it to the new phone without logging in.

Then u have 2 options:
1 - Root your phone.
2 - Ask dev of Whatsapp to do something for u (for all too.lol). But i think it'll never come true. Its too risky for any apps.

Yeah thanks, I know it's possible with root which I don't have and doing it wipes the phone which makes my whole reason for this pointless.
This whole post was just asking if there's any way to do it without root. If you can't help don't reply?
