As the title says, I need to do a backup of my phone before I send to repair but since the screen is broken I can't really do anything. I plug it into my PC and it says Charge Only. Sony PC companion doesn't detect it because I need to select the option but again I can't because I can't use my screen I can't select anything.
Is there anything I can do to back it up? I have tons of important pictures I don't want to lose..
This happened to me as well with my Oneplus One.
I had to use a USB OTG adapter and plug in a mouse; the phone should detect the mouse and you can do all the backups like that.

see title, cyanogen mod, powers on, charges, calls come in, notifications come in, but unresponsive to swiping.
oneplus support say screen can be repaired but data will be wiped lost in the process. no ifs ands buts about it. no point in repair through them if that happens.

Connect usb mouse to OTG cable you will be able to access files.
I'm trying to transfer like 30 gigs of photos off my Honor 6x, but when I plug the phone into the computer, nothing happens. The phone charges, but it doesn't give any sort of option to connect. I've tried this on several computers and had the same results every time.
I haven't "rooted" my phone or anything.
I have the latest software updates.
Why isn't my phone connecting to my computers?
All my other phones I just plug them in, they give me an option to connect as a media device, and then it shows up on the computer where I can download the files.

It acts like that since first time you used it or not?
1- Did you unlocked the screen?
2- Have you set up MTP properly? Check storage settings.
Also make sure you use usb cable with data lines (not from powerbank )
I've cracked the screen on my HTC U11, the LCD is damaged so nothing is displayed apart from loads of vertical lines.
I need to copy the pictures etc off the phone, when I plug it into my laptop the phone isn't displayed in my computer. Pretty sure I need to select the connect as media device option on the phone when connecting to a PC.
Is there a way of getting my files off without replacing the broken screen?

you could try in twrp if you have it. it autos to mtp
unfortunately it's all stock.
If I plugged a USB C to hdmi cable in and to a TV would it display the mess on the cracked screen or would it display properly on the TV?
Got round this by using a USB C to hdmi cable, while the phone was displayed on the TV screen I changed the phone to cast the display to my chromecast.
Unplugged the USB C to HDMI cable and plugged the phone in to my laptop via USB and enabled the prompt to connect as a media device.
If your digitizer is not damaged an external display should get you to see your display / select what you need to too move files but then again you can also just replace the damaged screen, if you wanted to keep the phone that is. Took me less then an hour to remove, replace and water seal the new LCD and digitizer on my U11 (parts from eBay for ~$60)
Hello, I am a new user of this forum and wanted to find out is there an application for downloading on a computer that allows you to use it from the phone on the computer display? I'm asking because the touch screen it does not work on the phone and I have to enter an important application and make a copy backup and I wanted to do it on my computer.
if only touch doesnt work, use your usb C to usb adapter (came with the phone) or if you lost that buy a usb c to usb otg- adapter.
connect a computer mouse to your phone, don you use the mouse to click.

SOLVED: S7 dropped > broken screen > how to recover images? Not rooted,not "usb mode"
So my wife dropped S7 to the floor and device ended up to be fully powered, but screen is now all black. Back and "software" button illuminates. I can change volume. I can take photos. So phone works, but screen is all black. Main concern is to have photos out from the phone. Contacts are synced, software etc. can be installed to new phone.
Kies finds the phone, but says that is' locked. Although phone does not have any passcodes or fingerprint, Kies cannot access to photos. Also the PC does see the device, but it won't allow me to see the contents. Find My Mobile is not activated, I think that I can't activate it now without phone. Also Smart Switch says that phone is locked. Phone settings are pretty much as out from the box. USB debugging is off, Developper options off, etc...
But I found that possible via ABD (?) I could access phone storage. Is it so? I sould start the phone to Recovery Mode / Download Mode? How to do that? Normally the phone is on and I can't switch it off. I can only soft reset is by keeping vol- + power buttons pressed for 10sec. But after that, phone just restarts to OS.
Please give hints how to proceed. What to try. New LCD is around 50USD and takes forever to get from Aliexpress/Ebay.
Why not use an external display? Hook it up to the USB-connector via an adaptor and it should work to unlock the phone using a PC-mouse.

O, it has such feature? Quick googling did not help how to do it. How does it work? Do I need some cable or device?
Any ideas how to proceed? I either can reboot device to Recovery mode and use ADB or connect external display to the device. Or if someone has any better solution

Try to unlock your lock screen with a usb mouse connected via otg and swiping up with the mouse. Then connect it to the computer and try to backup your data with kies or switch.
Tried many thing how to allow the connection from another phone or computer. However it was not possible to connect, so I ordered a new screen. Once new screen installed, it was not even a challenge Ordered new screen from Aliexpress.
