SOLVED: S7 dropped > broken screen > how to recover images? Not rooted, not "usb mode"
So my wife dropped S7 to the floor and device ended up to be fully powered, but screen is now all black. Back and "software" button illuminates. I can change volume. I can take photos. So phone works, but screen is all black. Main concern is to have photos out from the phone. Contacts are synced, software etc. can be installed to new phone.
Kies finds the phone, but says that is' locked. Although phone does not have any passcodes or fingerprint, Kies cannot access to photos. Also the PC does see the device, but it won't allow me to see the contents. Find My Mobile is not activated, I think that I can't activate it now without phone. Also Smart Switch says that phone is locked. Phone settings are pretty much as out from the box. USB debugging is off, Developper options off, etc...
But I found that possible via ABD (?) I could access phone storage. Is it so? I sould start the phone to Recovery Mode / Download Mode? How to do that? Normally the phone is on and I can't switch it off. I can only soft reset is by keeping vol- + power buttons pressed for 10sec. But after that, phone just restarts to OS.
Please give hints how to proceed. What to try. New LCD is around 50USD and takes forever to get from Aliexpress/Ebay.

Why not use an external display? Hook it up to the USB-connector via an adaptor and it should work to unlock the phone using a PC-mouse.

O, it has such feature? Quick googling did not help how to do it. How does it work? Do I need some cable or device?

Any ideas how to proceed? I either can reboot device to Recovery mode and use ADB or connect external display to the device. Or if someone has any better solution

Please help. Family photos are in the phone

Try to unlock your lock screen with a usb mouse connected via otg and swiping up with the mouse. Then connect it to the computer and try to backup your data with kies or switch.

Tried many thing how to allow the connection from another phone or computer. However it was not possible to connect, so I ordered a new screen. Once new screen installed, it was not even a challenge Ordered new screen from Aliexpress.

Screen doesn't work and I need to get my pictures off

Hi there, My nexus 5 is having screen issues and the screen basically doesn't function due to what I can only assume is a bad connection on the mainboard ( if I press in the right area with the back cover off the screen will flicker and work a tiny bit if I reboot the phone.) My issue is I still have tons of pictures that are very dear to me on the device and need to get them off of it. When I connect it to my pc (windows 7) it connects and shows up as a nexus 5 device but nothing will appear in the folder. Im fairly certain I have the correct drivers installed as well. So how can I get it to connect properly with having basically no access to the screen? Ill even paypal you $5 if your answer works for me, thanks
Did you enable USB debugging? Did you enable MTP when connected to a computer? Is the computer a trusted device?

must have at some point because i connected it to a computer in the past, no idea and i dont know how to, and i dont know.
If the the phone is running a stock ROM and has a lock screen PIN, pattern, or password, you probably need to unlock the phone and select MTP as the USB option in order to have the Nexus 5 files appear in Windows Explorer.
If you have access to another N5, you could swap motherboards, copy the data, and swap motherboards again.

Broken Screen Data Recovery

So I managed to get lucky, or so I thought. I crushed my Z3V yesterday, and the digitizer is stuck constantly inputting touches. I can wait a few seconds, and the screen will unlock itself. However, when I plug my phone into my PC via USB, it keeps trying to show up as a CD drive, and the SD card (that's no longer in the phone.) I can't get ADB or the Xperia PC program to detect the phone. It's showing up as a mass storage device, but I can't access the internal storage still. I'm thinking it's a PC driver issue, but I wanted to ask here if there was anything else I should try, or if anyone else had encountered this before. USB Debugging is OFF on the phone. Once the screen unlocks itself, it randomly touches everything until it gets to a screen with no touch inputs on it. (it's currently sitting at the emergency alerts screen lol.

If you can get an to work, you can disable touch input and use the hardware keys or a mouse to make selections.

Recovering data with a broken screen, no USB Debugging and broken home button.

Hi all,
A friend of my handed me his old Galaxy S6 with a broken screen. Like every typical user he had no cloud sync or back-up of his data. Normally I would tell them these lessons are hard-learned but in this case it's about important data and media of some projects in Africa he volunteered at some years ago.
This phone is a worst-case scenario. The screen is dead without backlight, the home button has been broken for some time and USB-Debugging is turned off. First thing I tried was connecting a USB-HDMI cable and OTG cable to see if we can unlock it with a conventional mouse, but sadly HDMI support was discontinued from the Galaxy S4. (Why!?)
I dismounted the phone and used an USB-Jig to force it into download mode. When connected to the computer both the MTP device and Samsung USB modem are visible. That tells me the phone still boots normally..
Connecting trough ADB did nothing, "no devices/emulators found". I also tried some commercial tools like FoneLab Android data recovery and some of the many (spyware-bundled) forks to no avail. Some detect the MTP device but off-couse need USB-Debugging to be enabled what seems to be impossible without a working screen.
Odin recognizes the phone but off course flashing the firmware will erase all data on the phone.
Replacement screens for this model are hard to get at and crazy expensive these days. Any other things I can try without risking data-loss?
Any tips are greatly appreciated!

Force usb mode or other solution

Hello, I am looking for help from experts and I hope you will be able to help me.
My phone has fallen and the display is not responding at all. When I turn it on, the phone vibrates and charges (the computer detects it), but the screen is all black. Having a black screen, I cannot enter the unlock code and switch it to mass storage mode.
What I have to do is recover documents, photos and contacts from this phone, but I cannot do it via my computer.
My question is, is it possible to force the computer into mass storage mode on the phone with some probgram.
Do you know any way to recover data?
I will add that I do not want to replace the screen because it is too expensive for me.
Thanks a lot for any help.

Help Accessing Data on Screen Locked P20

Hi - wondering if anyone out there can think of a solutions to this...
So, my wife cracked her phone screen (Huawai P20) and bought a cheap phone to use short term while we worked out a replacement (Alcatel 1). When setting up the temporary phone, not all of the data from her P20 was install/copied, mainly because there's not enough storage space to hold it all.
Some of the data left on the P20 is really important (downloaded documents/files and pevious whatsapp history), so I was going to hook it up to a PC and grab all the data from it, but the biggest problem is she can't remember the unlock pattern. I know developer mode/USB debugging is not turned on, so I can't even get a PC/ADB to recognise it, plus I've had to connect it to a mouse and monitor (via HDMI/USB adapter) to even view/control the unlock screen.
I'm pretty sure that without the pattern we have little or no options, but was wondering if anyone knew the answers to the following:
Is there any way to unlock the phone using the old PIN that was set (she's confident she knows this)?
Is there a way to unlock using the finger print sensor (even though is says 'pattern required due to restart')
Should ADB list it as a device even though USB debigging is turned off and the phone is screen locked (currently does not list it, but I thought you could PIN unlock via ADB)
Does anyone know any other tools/options for accessiing the files on the phone.
Thanks is advance for any help!
Basically you can access Android's filesystem in ADB-mode or in MTP-mode: the latter should always be possible.
Even if USB Debuging is turned off and the screen is locked? Any tips on how to get the PC to see the device in MTP mode?
Thanks!
My wifey has a Huawei Y7 with HiSuite installed on Windows PC and HDB enabled on phone. As soon as she connects PC with phone over USB, confirms the verification code, phone gets mounted on PC as external USB-drive and thus visible in MTP-mode.
My guess is you have to take your Huawei to authorized service center and let them try to fix it.
Ah Ok. HiSuite asks for USB Debugging to be enabled first, which i can't do because it's locked. Thanks for you help anayway.
