My wife and I both got an S6 (mine is Verizon and hers is Sprint through our companies). I bought the Samsung charging pucks off Amazon Warehouse Deals and they came from China so I do not know if that has anything to do with my problem.
First, the phones would charge then pause then charge then pause over and over again. I corrected this issue by connecting each charger to its own dedicated power (I was using this and its apparently 2.1A combined: http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=109&cp_id=10907&cs_id=1090701&p_id=9195&seq=1&format=2). So now we can charge but the location is extremely fickle.
Second, now that we are charging, if I use anything but an ultra slim case, it does not work. I have the Ringke Slim and have her using a cheap hybrid case from Best Buy. I have several other cases but they do not work (Speck Mightyshell, Rinke Max, etc...)
My question is several really.
- This is my first experience with wireless charging, do other wireless chargers perform better or is this par for the course?
- Is the fact that these came direct from China an issue? Maybe a newer version of the puck works better?
- Has anyone else had solid experience charging with a larger case? Mainly the Speck Mightyshell because my wife loves it.
Thank you for all your help XDA community!
That's the sign of a weak charging coil. I've used the Samsung puck (ECP-920), several Nokia chargers (DT-910, DT-920, DT-601, DC-50), and the Panasonic Qi pad. . I've used the Casemate Tough, the Ballistic Jewel, and several Spigen cases, which vary in thickness between 1mm-4mm, and never had issues with any of the above chargers save the DC-50, which behaved exactly as you described. The rest stay charging without constantly disconnecting and reconnecting to the phone, which also causes it to heat up.
In your shoes, I'd spend the extra $10 to get better chargers - there's $20 chargers on Amazon which have good reviews and seem to work properly. Heck, the old Nokia DT-900 works great, I'm told, and since it's discontinued sells fairly cheap as well.
I've already returned the DC50 for another Samsung puck, which was on sale for $30 or so at the time. I wouldn't advise keeping those cheap chargers, since they'll behave similarly badly with most Qi devices.

Thank you for the reply. Just to note, they are genuine "Samsung" pucks. They may be fake but were purchased off of Amazon. I will look into this.
Is this an unequivocal "best" charging pad?
I've had similar problems with the starting and stopping of charging. Usually, though, it's due to not being on the right spot, exactly. I can usually get a sweet spot and it will stay a lot better. I also noticed more problems with it when I had a slicker case on the phone, and I think it would shift a bit on the puck when people would walk around the house.
Also, as I mentioned, I had no trouble charging through a case. My wife briefly had some case from Best Buy before switching to an Otter Box Commuter, and I had a Spigen Ultra Hybrid before switching to a Verus Iron Bumper. None have had any trouble with the Samsung charger.
I will also throw out that I am just now getting my first experience with a different wireless charger, having bought a "Freedy" one from Amazon to put on my desk at work. It seems fairly decent thus far, though I did notice yesterday that it seemed to get really warm when I left it on there for a long time (not an issue with the Samsung charger). I am going to monitor that more over the next few days.
I wouldn't call the Samsung one the absolute best, but it works well for me. You have the square ones (EP-PG900) or the round ones (EP-PG920)? I've the latter, which I bought in store. You may want to RMA them if they're the round ones and won't charge the phone even when the Galaxy logo is on the coil (the area inside the rubber circle) . The PG900s have been causing issues with some folks, from what I've read here and in Amazon.
Beyond that, I'd suggest getting a reputable brand for the charger - the Aukey one gets good reviews, for example. I've got quite a few Nokia chargers, and they've not let me down yet... except the DC50 wireless battery pack.

Just because they have Samsung printed on them doesn't make them OEM. I see 10$ pucks on eBay that have Samsung print on them. They come from China and I would bet money they never seen an actual Samsung manufacturing plant

Here are some pictures. Maybe it's a really good fake. I will take it up with Amazon if so. I've purchased another CHOE Qi Stadium charger to test.

That might be a fake. Did you get it from Amazon or a reseller using the Marketplace? The Yamsung thing is one I've never seen, and the Qi logo is in the wrong place and drawn incorrectly. Also, scan the QR code to see if it takes you to Samsung's site.

I did. I am not at home but I scanned the QR code from the photo and it has some japanese jibberish. If the one I ordered works better, I will return these and update this thread. Hopefully this helps someone.
My QR code reader couldn't read the code off the image you uploaded, and on my pad the code's actually just the serial number and model number, not the URL I had remembered.
If you didn't see a "sold by Amazon" link on the purchase you made, I'd say you got a fake.

Xenomix. A brand from Korea which has really impressed me with it's quality of products. It's a pain to wait for the products from overseas, but it's well worth the wait IMO. My first product was a Xenomix car mount that can be used with BOTH my N4 and N7 with it's respective cases. Granted you cannot use the car mount with the N4 and charge at the same time, but I am ok with that sacrifice. Search for my threads on the Xenomix car mount in the Nexus 7 threads if you want to look at pics there.
Then I was sent a Xenomix stand. It's a generic phone or tablet stand meant for the Galaxy S3. I told the seller to send me one of those whereas I had an idea of using it for my mad scientist reasons lol.
This was before xmas so I knew I would be getting this by the middle of January, but alas, it came in today (1/10/13).
I excitedly ripped the packaging and I found the great generic phone stand. Inside the package was a bit of rubber that looked like it was a cut piece of the soft rubber from manufacturing but I figured I'd keep the piece just in case I needed it.
Next I slid the underside of the stand out. This is meant if you place a tablet in the stand to prevent it from tipping over or falling back due to the weight distribution. I slid the LG wireless charger in the stand.
Next I put the phone right on top of the charger and guess what?!?! It holds in place and charges!!!!! Remember that rubber piece I was referring to earlier? I used a glue stick and stuck the soft rubber piece (Same material used to hold the device in the stand-its really soft) in front and used it as a anchor mount. It's not needed, but it works! Check it....

The stand can be found only on ebay that I have seen. It's a generic Xenomix Smart desktop stand (in black or white) made for the galaxy tab or ipad. model SHG-DK100.
I forgot to initially mention that I have a Diztronic Ultra Hard Shell installed. I will try using TPU cases tomorrow to ensure that this setup can still be used with something a little more thicker like the Diztronic TPU case.

LOL I know I'll probably just cover the entire bottom with electrical tape to cover up the 'booster' lol.
I did the same thing at home with the Energizer qi charger lol. I have another landscape version of the this dock for the Sensation and put the Energizer pad landscape as well so that the dock won't easily tip over. Then put a rubber band to keep the charger from slipping off and viola! Another ghetto rigged stand for viewing the phone in portrait rather than layin down lol. I can post pics for that too. Not that pretty either. LOL

Well the thread was initially created when I ghetto-fitted a dock to fit the LG pad, but looked really really tacky lol. This looks a bit more cleaned up and more like something I would buy if created lol.
For sake of saving face a bit, I just deleted the old pics and lil write up I did on the ghetto-fitted dock, I replaced it with the write up you see today .
Thank you!! I ended up picking up two of these docks and I'm now using them with my LG chargers. $30 for both stands and now I can use my charger as I always wanted. The cheapest charging stand I could find that had a decent angle was a Nokia on Amazon for $67 at only 750 mA. This solution was PERFECT for me! Thanks very much for posting!

I have the orb at home... Works well, but the angle isn't steep enough at times. I looked at the Tylt VU and had the same issue. Angle was a little low for my needs. Plus, I have the LG chargers just laying around, so they can now be used again!
Basically, I'm looking for a way to enable my S4 to charge wirelessly and try some chargers.
I've seen some receivers online and heard that there is a backdoor for S4 that is QI enabled. What's the best way to proceed?

But I thought a Amazon seller was safer bet
Its thin and NFC works, Charges at 640ma
I highly recommend this one. It fits under the stock Samsung battery cover even with my zero lemon 3000 mah ext battery. I would go with this one (link at bottom of post) with the versa 2 charging pad over the their curve charging pad. They claim the curve 2 handle cases at thick as 5mm and the curve at 3mm. They also offer a versa 1st gen for $5 less. For a a few extra I'd go with the newer generation. I've been using mine for prob close to six months now since they released it and it performs great. There is one down fall though. My nfc doesn't work. Might just be my luck, I dunno for sure. Maybe someone else can chime in if they have this one. I don't have a need for nfc currently. I love wireless charging.
I've tried many cases with my wireless charging kit and they all work through the case. Spigen neo, bodyglove, leather flip case and one with a thick clear plastic back. Currently using a balllistic sg maxx for a few months now with no issues. This is the thickest case I've tried and I didn't think it would even work.
It really is a life save. Sometime after I got my wireless charging kit my usb port died. Not sure when though. Went to charge my phone one day in a friends car and nothing. Got home and tried again, nothing. Tried my wireless pad, starts charging right away. Even tried hooking my phone to my pc, wouldn't recognize my phone as ext usb storage or charger. Finally bought a new usb board ebay for $11. They are really easy to change. Went prob 4 months with no usb port, just wireless. Googled the issue and lots of people have the same problem.

The receiver link that chrisdfw posted seems interesting. Working nfc and and up to 7000 mah charging current. Seems to good to be true. If so it should be able to charge your phone pretty fast if you have a good wireless charging pad that can output enough. My phone takes prob 4-5 hrs with my mosnter watts kit and no nfc. I think the s4 can only handle like 640 mah for wireless charging if I'm not mistaken.

I bought this:

and this:
http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/accessories/chargers/sku6290260.html#fbid=I2SgasOKRDt (heck a discount when you order 3)
They charge at 640mha which is slightly disappointing. the insert is "capable" of 1Ah and the pad is "capable" of 750mha and never got other units to test with. all in all I didn't drop a lot of money and it works even with thicker cases too. It doesn't interfere with the built in NFC in the battery. I'm fairly happy with the buy. If you want a pics of what it looks like installed here's the thread:

AFAIK, all QI setups for the S4 charge @ 640mA. I have a 1A Nexus Orb with a generic 1A QI sticker and a genuine Sammy QI battery cover. They both charge at 640mah sadly.
A good Qi receiver and charging station.

The only tricky part is making the cards contacts stay in the phones. Solved easily with a piece of scotch tape. Works great and I have extended batteries with protective case, not even a problem. Try it out.

That's a good question. I have a zl 3000mah and I'd say it takes 4-5 hrs completely drained. Would be interesting. The problem is getting a wireless receiver to make contacts with the charging studs. I have some copper foil tape I'm thinking would work. Just need a 7500 zl to test it with. It'd be great with their rugged case if I could make it work. I'm pretty sure it would though
I found this thing on Ubergizmo

It's a powerbank and charger...reminds me of that thing from Lugulake, just smaller capacity, but it's from Mugen, so should be good.
and this QI receiver from mugen
Available to buy here here
I had one of those charging pads that fit under the stock back cover and it was OK. It worked, but the problem was always you need to put the phone PERFECTLY on the charger or it would stop charging after a few seconds. It just got annoying.
What I would recommend is getting the Samsung Oem charging cover. I have seen a few on Ebay and they are less than $20. I bought one and I couldn't be happier. The charging just works as good as my Nexus. I have no complaints.
Here is a sample add that I found
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=251364515988
I honestly wouldn't waste my time with anymore wireless receiver pads that create a buldge and get your phone hot. Plus they are finicky on getting the contacts to touch.

So after picking up my S5 and absolutely HATING the USB3 connector on it, I decided I would go to a wireless charger. Read reviews and everyone has a different opinion so I got what I could find easily on eBay.
I picked up a charger for my wife's S4 and my S5, though not from the same seller (Neither seller had charge cards for both phones)
Wife got a pink one (to match her Otterbox Defender....more on that in a minute) and I picked up a blue one for my S5
Hers arrived and I went to work putting in the card. Worked flawlessly even through the big Otterbox. Awesome!
Mine came a few days later. Put the card in my phone (no case) and plugged in the charger. First thing I notice is the light to let you know its plugged in is VERY dim compared to the wife's. Weird but ok. Put the charge card in and put it on the charger.....nothing. Move it around some...finally find the exact spot it needs to charge (which happens to be 180 degrees from how you use the phone) Just a slight touch and its not charging. Also noticed her charging indication light on the pad is green, the one on mine was a very, very dim red.
So, thinking its the charge card...I test with the pink Qi charger. Works fine no matter how I put it on.
Contacted the seller, they told me to take the case off my phone, after my initial complaint stated I do not use a case on my phone. That was it..all communication stopped after their first response. I eventually won the case and got a refund. Seller was "findmall".
Anyway, the wife found she doesn't use hers as much as she though so I swapped insides (I can't use a pink charger lol). Here are the pics...the one I ordered for mine (blue) looks quite a bit different, both in quality of the charge coil solder connections, and the circuit board. Both look identical on the outside other than color.
Hope this helps someone. The good charger came (very quickly) from "accmonster" on eBay and was about $3 more.
Pics of them opened up before the swap:

From my shopping I'd think there are very few factories actually making these things, My LuguLake one is very similar externally. It does work fine for all my Qi capable devices. Amazon/ebay sellers often have 8-10 Qi chargers, probably the same internals.
I also have a raw Qi transmitter ordered from China that works ok, very bright LEDs. I haven't installed it in a case or whatever yet but the LEDs are almost too bright. It is a different design from your 2.

The coil was pictured as a separate piece on ebay, wired to the board. I was a little bummed to see it sandwiched as it doubles thickness making the existing car mount I wanted to mod not feasible with out weakening it to much. I may make a nightstand or desk top with it embedded. Need to test how well it works through a thin veneer. But it does work fine in basic testing.
The Lugulake QI charger has the identical back as yours also, gotta be same case maker and probably same factory.

As far as the dual standing desktop charger goes, do we know if this will work with the factory receiver backing plate? The Tylt View does not because the receiver on the phone is in the wrong place for it.

Very unobtrusive doesn't get to hot while charging and has quite a decent pickup area when used with the ultra slim card cost for the charger and card around £34 from amazon whole pad is about 12 mm thick and around 65 mm in diameter. Charges my s5 through an otterbox defender no problem.

I agree, the powerqi T200 is a decent charger, the coils and PCB is good quality and does have a good detection with most phones, but I prefer the metrans MWT 03S, much smaller and very good detection, but only available in black with aluminum frame, I would like to see a whte version.
MWT 03 all plastic
MWT 03S with aluminum frame.
I highly recommend these, although they are single coil, they detect the phone pretty well and charge pretty cool, with good style, the LED is not so bright and they are made in korean.
Now i'm using the Araree/powerholic different names in different market, the uneven surface allows the phone to charge cooler.
The edge of the center part has a rubber ring to prevent the phone from slipping or moving around.

I got a wireless charger and receiver on ebay it is round and slanted so I use it almost like a dock
the issue is the phone keeps turning on and gives me the BAttery fully charged notification.. is there a way to stop that notification?
also the wireless charging notification comes on as a box and while that is on I can not do anything on the phone and have to wait 5seconds for it to go away .. it would be nice if the wireless charging notification could be much less intrusive..
P.s. my charger charges the phone at 620ma which is better than my 10ft long usb charger at 300ma and worst than my wall charger at 1200ma.
Has anyone managed to try a few of these out? Any comments on which works the best?
Personally after having 4 different 3rd party chargers I've stuck to the Samsung ones. They just seem less fussy about placement. They also don't have annoyingly bright LEDs. Over here they are £25 on Amazon. Worth paying the extra £10 or so over the cheaper ones.
Do any of these 3rd party chargers work with the Samsung s view wireless case?
Portable Wireless Charger Power Bank 4000 mAh
I was wondering if anyone has tried the Qi-infinity™ Portable Wireless Charger Power Bank 4000 mAh on Amazon. Unfortunately, I cannot link it because I haven't posted a lot on XDA.
It has great reviews from verified purchasers but I'm still skeptic. I'll place an order for it tomorrow morning if no one has tried it and update when I've used it.
After trying out wireless charging with $5 puck off eBay I wanted to get myself something better. My requirements were: black, small, tilted and usb connector compatible stand. (So for me Tylt Vu is too long plus it doesn't have usb connector)
I decided to go with "Wireless Ultra Charging Pad" from Naztech (ordered from eBay for $50 + $15 shipping).
I received the charger just yesterday. Fortunately for me, the charger looks really similar to the render and I like the design. It looks like it was made for S5 - the optimal position is right in the middle. (I'm no expert but based on the positions I tried it looks like a 1-coil charger.)
Unfortunately the excitement got away quickly thanks to:
LEDs - It has two LEDs: red one (always on) and green one (for charging). The green one is lit when phone is charging. When charging finishes, it starts blinking. I was aware of them and they look discreen but I just hate leds, especially blinking ones which are not mentioned in description of $60 product and they cannot be turned off (well, black tape to rescue).
Beep - It beeps when charging starts. I read that Tylt Vu also beeps but do they really have to? I wouldn't buy it if I knew it is such long and high beep (again, it's not listed in product description). The worst is that the charger has no screws so muting the beeper isn't so easy.
Slipping - I have geniune back cover with QI receiver from Samsung but the 45 degree rubber pad just isn't able to hold the phone and it is traveling down with the speed of 1-2 cm per 5 minutes. This makes me very angry. S5 is listed as compatible. When I put there only the back cover itself it was also slipping (I'm not sure if I will bother uploading it). I also tried my tablet without Qi - LG G Pad 8.3 which has aluminium back but even this didn't help.
No response - Before ordering from eBay I was unable to use 20% discount from Naztech shop. I sent them email asking for help but never received a reply.
The only good thing is that I decided not to order two pieces (one for home, other to work). I'm afraid I will not be returning the charger because shipping would cost me significant amount of the charger cost and time. Also the eBay seller undervalued the package so I better don't want additional charges or other issues when sending it back.

Working attempt to stop the slipping (used some rubber bands):
I might also end up replacing the rubber pad with something better...
This makes me very angry, lmao.
There's so much more in life to get upset about. Go outside.
try searching for a charger from yijieneng, i've started a thread on this, it has what you are looking for.
I already got $15 charging orb. Phone sits wonderfully on it and makes no beeps so I ordered another one for work.

I was pleasantly surprised - it doesn't feel cheap at all, it's quite heavy and looks well made, at least the all black version I got ("Made in Korea" ). Also unlike other chargers ($5 puck or this Naztech) it doesn't make any buzzing during charging.

with most of the chargers, you can just remove the buzzer, but you can't do anything with the phone.
I have about 12 chargers, I change them every few months.:fingers-crossed:
