[Q][Help]Galaxy S3 without USB Debugging On - Display Down - Need Pictures :/ - General Questions and Answers

Hi all,
a colleague of mine yesterday came to me with his Galaxy S3. The display of the phone is black but the phone is working and recognized by the pc (but only as camera). Problem is - he had USB debugging off.
What have I done so far:
- I searched the forums and threads here and read through them, but all what they suggested didn't met the circumstances or didnt work out for me. :/
First of all I:
- installed all actual Samsung USB Drivers
- installed actual Andriod Studio
- installed SDK Studio
- tried to connect via adb - but just got device offline or device auth? - can't get to the device with adb shell etc. (USB debugging on needed right? :/)
- tried Samsung Kies (no connection possible)
- tried to get to the phone with [email protected], Version 1.1 but it just states the device as "rejected"
I have no further idea how to get to the pictures of my colleague :/
Maybe someone of you has some tips or how can I bring the device online with adb or any other tool, trick etc. and get the data?
Thx in advance!
Andreas

No Micro SD card inside - just internal storage.

How about plug it in Computer with Dropbox installed and make it auto import all photos.

Can't see that working - I don't even have access via Explorer (just empty folders) - how should dropbox fullfill that miracle?

Tried Stock, CM10, now on AOKP-JB built 3
So you are running AOKP , so i assume you are not just talking about moving files from your PC to your tab , after installing the correct drivers from Samsung ( either via Kies or Windows update).
So what exactly do you want to do ? Am i right in saying that you want full access from your PC to your tab via USB ? From what I have worked out it doesn't work like that with our tabs as the set permissions wont let you. Or have it got it wrong ?
Have you read this thread by ChainFire? ( he IS the man ! ).

Sorry, I don't understand why it's better. I just bought a Tab 2 and when I hooked it up to my pc I could see the folders and files and copy music and videos to it. I was going to hook it up again now to see if it's about getting into system files or something, but I'm exchanging it later today and I already did a factory reset.
Is it something to do with modding system files, rooting and flashing files that's easier with it? Sorry if this is a stupid question. I'm new to the Tab and rooting and flashing on my phone (Rezound) is so completely different than this, I'm still absorbing everything and trying to understand it all before I do anything with a Tab.

Simple... MTP permits u to copy to / from video, music, photo... files. Finish.
USB Mass Storage gives u the total permission of copying files but also... format partition, defrag, open files directly from the device, etc etc.

[Q] Get picture and data from S3 Locked broken screen

First off, Mark great program. I'e searched the tread and didn't find this question.
I have a Verizon S3 I535 4.1.1 and want to retrieve my pictures and data from the phone. Currently the screen broke so I can't unlock the phone password nor can I put the phone in USB debugging mode. Is there a way I can use this app to retrieve my data?

I do have it plugged in to the USB port, I just can't access any files but the pre-loaded drivers that on it. I need to first unlock my phone to see the files in it.
I'm just trying to get important pictures off the phone.
Can someone help me out. These are my new born pics from the hospital.
Couldn't you grab the SDK tools, then use the command:
ADB pull \sdcard\DCIM
(or wherever your pictures are located, for me it's \0\SDcard\DCIM because I'm on 4.2)

I don't know how to do that. This is a screen shot I get when I open Samsung GS3 Toolkit.
Also is another screenshot of what happens when I plug the phone to the computer

Did you try to reinstall the USB drives?
I had an issue recently that when I plugged my S3 into my computer noting came up. Reinstalling the drives fixed it for me.
If you haven't already tried, you could installing Kies. You can get to your phones from that.

^^^ This
You only need to know a few linux commands id you don't know where your files are located.
adb help will give you a list of commands.
to test if your are able to connect, type adb devices
it will return you phone device number if attached properly.
Use adb shell
This will open a shell so you can cd to directories to find that files and path you need.
Then use as stated above adb pull <location> <remote>
Guys, I don't have my phone is USB debug mode. My phone was locked when the screen cracked. I've installed Samsung Kies for the Samsung drivers, I installed the Samsung drivers from their website, I've also installed the drivers from the phone when plugged in through USB, which is the only thing I see.
-Ajrty33 - I've tried using ADB, but it doesn't recognize a phone connected in the computer. Keeps coming up with nothing found. My understanding is that you need USB Debugging enabled to have it detect the phone, no?
-Just_AGuy - I've tried using the ADB Linux commands to detect the phone. it comes up with nothing. What else can I try?

When you type adb devices, does it just come back with "List of devices attached" then nothing under that?
If it doesn't list any devices, you have bigger problems.
Have you tried different USB port too? I've seen issues with USB3 port not working with odin and the Motorola equivalent RSD lite.
It still could be drivers. I had issue with mine a while ago. I tried reinstalling them and it appeared to install but didn't properly. I had to reboot the computer a couple times and reboot the phone.
As a last resort you might bring it to Verizon and see if they can get the files off for you.
It comes up with no device found. I tried another USB port and nothing. I've tried connecting my wife's phone and it works on all USB ports.
It did install new drivers when I connected her phone and it's the same model.
That's too bad. It sounds like you have hardware issues. Take it to the techs at the Verizon store, I don't think even they can screw it up more.
I just tried installing Kies on my work computer. After doing so, the computer didn't recognize my phone. I rebooted both the computer and the phone. The computer still didn't see the phone.
I shut off the phone and did a battery pull. Then restarted the phone and plugged in the USB cable. The computer recognized the phone and reinstalled the drivers.
Try it.

[Q] Fail to see my Nexus 5 on Win7

Hi Guys,
I had a rooted 4.4.2 device, when I got the the 4.4.3 upgrade and I think that from then I cannot see my device on my laptop.
(I am not sure of that because I CAN see it on my work desktop...)
Anyway, whatever I do - I get the following results:
1. Device manager shows me under the "Portable Devices" the brance F:\
2. When I try to install new ADB drivers, it tells me that "WPD fileSystem volume driver" is the best for me...
Storage usb connection setting is set to be MTP.
Meanwhile, I cannot see my nexus 5 files on my laptop
Please assist, Thanks!!!

Delete the device in device manager and then let it find it again.

If you mean to uninstall it, then I did it couple of times, and now again when the device was disconnected. Then I reconnected the device to the USB port, and scanned the deice manager for changes.
I got the same result - see attachement.
Delete then reboot both devices. Connect phone again. If same, delete device and reboot phone whilst still connected
If that fails, delete and use "universal naked driver"

Never seen that before. Your drivers obviously aren't set up right. Google 15 second adb drivers xda and use that to install the drivers. It'll also set up adb/fastboot which you may or may not need. It gives you the option

Are you trying to use ADB mode? If so, and it's not recognizing the device, try using ADB Driver Installer. It worked for me.

It's supposed to work fine even with it on, at least it did when I had it on. Tested on Win 7, 8, 8.1 and 8.1U1 lol. I never had any issues with USB ever.
Or use Linux, it'll work right away..
It's not set to Camera (PTP) instead of Media Device (MTP) ?
Case Status
Guys.
Thank you all for your kind help.
I tried at least most of your advises - but there were no joy...
I think that the best I should do now is somehow clean up my system from old drivers and related installations.
So, taking aside the option of reinstalling windows, can you share with me some procedures that will enable me to get rid of all old drivers and files and to reach a state of a clean system, so I can then start reinstalling the drivers again?
Thanks a lot!

Honor 6 plus & Android File Transfer Issues

Hello everyone,
I was using my Honor 6 plus and android fil transfer without any problem for the past month. But suddenly instead of having the all the files stocked in my phone available on the software window, i've an empty window (as shown in the picture below). With this i can transfer my files from my computer but i can't choose were to put them, and the most problematic is i can't transfer files from my phone (cause i can't access any).
I checked most of the developper options (the mtp is enable).
This issue starts after update to emui 4.0. Befor that i rooted my phone using kingroot.
The strange thing is when i try with my girlfriends phone (honor 5c emui 4.0) android file transfer work properly.
Dose someone have an idea ?
Cheers

USB Connection Issues

I just rooted my s8+ with partcyborg's samfail and everything is working great except the usb isn't being recognized. I can see my phone on my computer and I can move files to my desktop but on my phone I get this message - "The connected device is unable to access data on this device. Reconnect the USB cable and try again." I have USB debugging enabled in settings. I'm using windows 10. ADB is up to date. I installed the samsung USB drivers. The device isn't recognized in kies or smart switch.
I'm at a total loss here. Any ideas? Could this be related to the 80% battery bug I was seeing? It's been at 80% for a while now.
Apologies if this is an obvious fix. I haven't rooted a phone since kitkat I looked around but the other threads weren't helpful.

So what do you wanna do with your USB connection? Just MTP (e.g. transfer files like you would when connecting a USB-Stick to PC) or you wanna do some ADB operations?
If you just want to transfer files, there's no need to have USB-Debugging enabled (in fact this is kind of a security risk when you connect to an unknown pc)
