Which kernel? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK, I'm now on 5.1.1 (with tripped KNOX... :crying; I flashed unikernel as permissive kernel. Is there any other kernel I can use? It's not clear which one has permisssive Selinux, I'd like to go with one with overclock feature...
Thanks guys!

Aou kernel works great. Go to tmo s6 edge forum and find it.

AOKP M5 and VOODOO

I can't seem to get voodoo sound to run on stock AOKP M5 with stock kernel.
I bought the voodoo sound plus, but when i load the driver i get a ''voodoo sound driver loading error''.
I'm rooted and it has the correct permissions etc.
Anyone have any success with this?
Perhaps the stock kernel doesn't have voodoo settings? Not really sure. The first thing I do is flash a kernel and voodoo everything is working fine for me.

Yes but i thought the whole point of the paid version of voodoo is that it loads the necessary drivers into the kernel :S
Doesn't AOKP on our phones have Pete's kernel as stock? I thought one of our members had the module loaded for Voodoo with Petes kernel.

No idea about the kernel, but definitely not working :/
Bumping this as i'm desperate.
AFAIK, voodoo module only loads on stock ICS kernel, not pete's. But check his thread in development, I remember there was a debate about it some time ago, don't know what was the conclusion.
Although if you're a fan of a stockish kernel, load up SimpleKernel from terryhau, it's built from stock ICS sources and has Voodoo & BLN added.

Trickster Mod on Rooted Stock Note 3

I purchased and used Trickster Mod when I had my Nexus, and loved it. I finally rooted my Note 3 but haven't flashed a custom ROM on it yet. Was wondering if anyone is using this app on their rooted stock Note 3 phones. If so, what settings have you changed?
My specs...
- rooted
- stock
- Android 4.3
- exciting, right?
Thanks.
This is for kernel settings..
You can modify tge voltage and over or under clock the cpu... Etc.

I know what the app is for as I've used it for a long time. What I'd like to know is if anyone who has rooted their phone (minus flashing a custom ROM) is tweaking their stock kernel & CPU settings. Also, does changing these settings with it being a stock kernel cause any issues with the phone?
I'm dying to install a customer recovery, ROM and kernel, but don't feel like tripping knox and killing my warranty. At least not yet anyway.
I use Trickster Mod too for many years now, it's a great tool. The only thing I have changed is the Governor, from 'ondemand' to 'performance'. Ondemand seems to be the default value. 'Perfomance' gives some boost in GTA SA.
My note 3 : MK2, rooted, Knox 0x0

You can not modify stock kernel settings with Trickster. You need a modified Kernel to change CPU GPU voltage etc.

What should I be aware of after flashing a Kernel?

I've been researching about this for 30 minutes and still couldn't find anything that answered my question, I apologize in advance if the answers are obvious.
So the question is as the title states, what should I be aware of after flashing a Kernel on CM12.1? Will I have any issues when updating to another nightly? Or when flashing a stock-ROM ? Thanks in advance!
if you update your rom, your kernel will be replaced with one if the rom.
so you have to reflash your custom kernel

Thank you for the answer, but despites that is there anything I should be aware of when using a custom kernel? Xposed, going back to stock, etc
Nothing i know of, xposed doesnt give any problems to me when i flash a kernel so you should be good.
so its pretty save to flash a kernel

One more question if you don't mind, how can I custom my kernel settings? Currently on Squid Kernel (Moto g 2015), CM12.1
Install kernel adiutur from the playstore. With that app you change all your settings

imposible to have root with stock kernel and stock firmware?

Im having strange issues with root and super su, when i install cf auto root on a brand new fresh stock firmware at the next few hours super su suddenly sais:
There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!
i know that changing the kernel fixes this... but cant i stay with root & stock kernel and firmware...?
Of you are already rooted i can advise you that you should change the kernel because custom cerbels are much better than the stock one, they have more benefits and better battery life undervolt changing governor or scheduler etc etc etc

[KERNEL][NOUGAT] AKLU Kernel

Praise God! The AKLU kernel has arrived on the Galaxy Note Edge in the flavor of NOUGAT!
NOTE: I highly recommend turning off THERMAL CORE CONTROL! Use THERMAL TEMPERATURE THROTTLE instead. Thermal core control has been known to cause random reboots on this kernel before when gaming or during heavy use. You can use Kernel Adiutor to adjust these settings.
TBLTE AKLU KERNEL for AOKP 7.1.2!
MAY work for other LineageOS based roms, e.g., RR, PAC,AOKP, LineageOS, etc.

JeremySS,
Thank you for the kind words!
In theory it should work with any nougat rom based on LineageOS, but I have not proved that personally. Thanks for confirming that for RR and providing the feedback!

Thanks for the thought, but I do not accept donations. I just tinker for fun, and have my own rewards. Besides, guys like @Mickey387 did all the heavy lifting, I just try to put the device trees and vendor blobs to good use, with a few edits here and there. Glad to know that my work is appreciated, though.
The slim 7 aklu kernel appears to be slightly unstable at this time. Please use with caution.
EDIT: Updated the kernel and fixed a few bugs that I missed in the first build. SHOULD be better now. Please turn off thermal core control for best performance!
Also, if you flashed superSU in Slim to root it, you need to flash the kernel, then immidiately flash superSU, then reboot.

I make zImage with gcc eabi 4.8. End only *****_DCM_Defconfig
Log -hastebin.com/gudipabona.coffeescript
but it is not boot my note edge . Maybe because I packed it in your boot.img?
Or because compiled with only one config?
Praise God! A new kernel update!
The AKLU kernel for the AOKP has been updated to include kexec hardboot for rmultirom support! See the OP for details!
I have noticed that many of these processors on the note4/edge are of a good bin.. Mine can run about 45mv off from stock.. Have you ever considered adding CPU Voltage control to help a bit with battery longivity? I do thank you for your excellent work, your rom's and kernels truly show that it is the programmer not the hardware that matters.... Godspeed....

Thanks afbcamero, those are kind words.
On my MM kernels I did implement UV, but the way I did it in MM fails to pass in the N kernel. Not because it doesn't work, but rather that new build standards don't allow it. With the recent birth of my son, I have not had time yet to go back to it and figure out what was wrong yet. Are you familiar with kernel work? You could look at my github and my kernel source, perhaps you could show me where I went wrong?
If I can get passed that, I can implement the UV again. I also have the same problem for GPU voltage control, which I used to put on my MM kernels as well.
Perhaps when life slows down a bit, I can look back into it.

Oh I see, i honestly never looked at the structure of Nougat kernels. Any time I want to implement a change somebody does it better and beats me to the punch.. I will look at it just in case I see something..
On another note, these things however fun (development) not being trully important, may your family be blessed by the big guy.
Thanks! I'm always open to ideas on kernel improvement.
