AOKP M5 and VOODOO - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't seem to get voodoo sound to run on stock AOKP M5 with stock kernel.
I bought the voodoo sound plus, but when i load the driver i get a ''voodoo sound driver loading error''.
I'm rooted and it has the correct permissions etc.
Anyone have any success with this?

Perhaps the stock kernel doesn't have voodoo settings? Not really sure. The first thing I do is flash a kernel and voodoo everything is working fine for me.

Yes but i thought the whole point of the paid version of voodoo is that it loads the necessary drivers into the kernel :S

Doesn't AOKP on our phones have Pete's kernel as stock? I thought one of our members had the module loaded for Voodoo with Petes kernel.

No idea about the kernel, but definitely not working :/

Bumping this as i'm desperate.

AFAIK, voodoo module only loads on stock ICS kernel, not pete's. But check his thread in development, I remember there was a debate about it some time ago, don't know what was the conclusion.
Although if you're a fan of a stockish kernel, load up SimpleKernel from terryhau, it's built from stock ICS sources and has Voodoo & BLN added.

[KERNEL] EA11 Voodoo kernel

Once again, jt1134 has delivered the goods. This is based on the EA11 leak, packaged with voodoo. For those of you that have been asking for it, here it is.
This kernel only includes the Voodoo ext4 lagfix, as without source code, Voodoo sound and color fixes are not possible. Full credit to Supercurio for the Voodoo lagfix code, as well as the scripts that jt1134 used to package it all into this kernel.
The kernel is also modified to support external bootanimations, ie: /system/media/bootanimation.zip
This package will also flash a modified recovery, which can be used with both Voodoo and non-Voodoo installations.
Make a backup. I am not responsible for what you do to your phone. Flash in recovery.

I love you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
no homo
well quadrant got ~1400ish with this...so happy you guys got the initial release out...thanks again
Just flashed and enabled lagfix, quadrant score 1435 stock froyo leak. Thanks a lot!
Quick question seeing as this is built off the kernel that was leaked with the froyo this should work when we get our real official upgrade release right?
Swyped using USCC Mesmerize
Ok, dumb question here. How do I flash this without ClockworkMod Recovery installed? I don't have an option to do it from stock recovery.
Um you might need to get clockwork mod to install this.. You can probably it with odin but I dunno..
Swyped using USCC Mesmerize
Yeah, just read that in the Leaked Froyo thread. Red CWM installed.
Ok so I have to flash update.zip from stock recovery every time I need to get to red recovery.did that then flashed voodoo from red and no noticeable difference. Ntm tried to install boot animations just to see if voodoo went through and nothing happened. Im obviously missing something, any ideas?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
Nice! Just flashed, rebooted into recovery via terminal (right to red CwM, thank you!) and enabled lagfix. One more reboot...sweet voodoo voice confirming it was working...
Nice quadrant and linpack scores. Very happy. Thanks devs!

Gotta enable lagfix after you flash the zip.

Ok so I tried to reboot to red recovery to enable lag fix. got hung up at the samsung screen. So I used odin to reflash froyo, followed by red recovery and reflashed voodoo , enabled lag fix and all is good once again.
You guys are the sizzle.

++ new issue.
phone does not ring for incoming sms.
not really sure whats going on. Anyone else experiencing this?
Dont know if it matters or not but i use handcent not the
stock sms app
dont feel bad...mine only uses the default text ringtone no matter what
guessing its a froyo bug
is this kernel undervolted?
atleast your working with a ringtone. i get no notifications whatsoever. no ring , vibe , or message counter in the notification bar. odd. ive checked handcent and the orig sms apps, everything is enabled.
YAY JT! Thanks for posting Phidelt!
1500 Quadrant. Kind of strange this scores lower than 2.1 Voodoo though.
I got 1692 last quadrant run, overclocked 2.1 with voodoo.

No, this is not undervolted and does not allow overclocking. To do either of these we will need the source code for the kernel which android has not released yet. once that is released, new kernels can be built with those and other mods built in.

Which Kernel do you prefer?

I was hoping to conduct a brief survey of which Kernel people are using.
Please list which Kernel you are using on your Charge and why you like it? Also, what other Kernels have you tried?
I am pretty new to this whole deal of flashing Kernels and ROMs as I have only had my Charge for 2 weeks now(my first smart phone). I am currently running EE4 stock right now but I have tried a few different ROMs(Gummy and AB) and JT's Kernel(root/voodoo/CWM). I keep coming here every day for the last 2 weeks reading and reading on what to do and what works well and what doesnt. I was curious as to the Kernel specifically and wanted to find out what most of the more experienced users are using and liking.
We have 4 kernels, Stock, Kangfuscius, JT's, and Mine. Stock is what it is, the stock kernel. JT's I believe is stock with modified initramfs for Voodoo and some other functions. Kangfuscius is built from source, but has few modifications outside of OCing and some initramfs tweaks I believe. Mine is built from source, has a variety of mods to it, as well as tweaked initramfs with fixes, features, and voodoo. The kernel really comes down to what you are looking for. Personally, I run my own
Right now I'm using imnut's kernel. I used JT's right after he released it, and switched to imnut's because it is more heavily optimized. So far I like it just fine.

OK what is a initramfs? Or should I just not ask? lol
PB & J all the way! I've had zero problems with this kernel, just hoping for some overclock someday.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
imnuts's PB&J mostly because I like the lagfix, it's the newest, and he is the most active in the community, so I feel like we get the best support.
Also, what CWM do you prefer? Imnuts one or JT's? Or the one packaged into Droidxcon's AB rom?

AB has JT's bundled in. I prefer imnuts's because the buttons work, he removed the potentially damaging backup/restore options, and he can test on the Charge. JT threw his out as a favor, but I don't think he actually has a Charge he can test on, and doesn't plan on doing dev for it (my apologies if I'm wrong on that).

initramfs=ramdisk It sets up the system as the phone boots to get it ready to run.
OK I installed Inmnuts new CWM and PB&J kernel earlier today. So far so good. I do notice it is decently faster with the lagfix enabled. Although the EE4 update did improve the speed alot IMO over ED1 and ED2. I have learned so much from all of you guys reading all this stuff over the past few weeks. I wanted to say thank you for all the advice and hard work!

How do I get Voodoo sound

Hi, I just flashed my first rom , the icbinb kh1 2.3.4 rom. Everything went smooth and the phone runs incredibly slick. I also installed Voodoo control app it says I am not running a Kernel that supports extended sound controls. Is there a kernel compatible with this rom that supports voodoo sound? Thanks.
load the driver and then have it load at boot the 2 check boxes and your good enjoy

in the voodoo sound app if it says the drivers not loadede load it load voodoo sound app if it doesnt take u to the kernel options hit the menu button paper looking button that lights up at the bottom of ur phone
hit the kernel opiton that pops up on screen first 2 chceck boxes click em
The voodoo control app actually says:
Voodoo sound improvements
sorry, this device doesn't run a kernel supporting extended sound controls.
so it sounds like the ICBINB KH1 GB rom I am running doesn't have voodoo sound. It does have voodoo lagfix though. So I'm guessing I have to flash another cutom kernel that has voodoo sound.

here let me post a pic all you need to do is check the first and second box to enable the sound because it will driver hack it
You have to get the paid version the paid version lets you modify sound with or without a modified kernel as long as you have root

Got the plus version now, and got it sorted. I didn't have the options you were referring to, as it's only available in the plus version. I was initially running the free version, then saw steeleain's post. Thanks again, and thanks to steeleain for the heads up.

[q] my screen is black afer installling kernel!!

I just installed the [Kernel]CM7 [2.6.32.45] on my phone with CM7 already installed. when I turned on the device after the LG logo my screen turns black?!! What coulfd be the issue...I apologize if i come off as a idiot....
You installed what kernel???
From who?
From where?
Cm7 rom has a stock kernel, so you must have flashed a custom kernel, did you check to see if it was compatible with cm7??
Yes its this kernel [Kernel]CM7 [2.6.32.45]. I downloaded from XDA and it says its compatible with CM7. When i rebooted the G2x from CWM the LG logo showed up and then went to a black screen
Just enable USB connection and put a different kernel on ur phone and flash it. Ur phone obviously can't handle the kernel

Also this happened to me when flashing an underclocked kernel from cm7. But then i flashed a different version of it and its now working perfectly i get mad battery.life.

Which CM7 Kernels could the G2x handle fo.....Im new to the whole kernel thing & im tryna get some help & I want to get more power from my phone.
Each kernel is different for speed, battery life, experimental... so on and so on. Every chipset is different in our phones some can't handle certain kernels.

Sounds they are referring to Faux's Kernel...
You have to match them up properly as CM7 just went through a few kernel changes and the Custom Kernel developers have to make them compatible. I think Faux has .44 out which is supposed to work...
Then you also have 4 options from Faux: Pre-OC/UV or Stock Speeds; and CM and DS battery drivers.

Flashing kernals causes boot loops

I just got the Captivate yesterday and I'm in love with it. I've been modding my Backflip for a while and I'm fairly certain I know what I'm doing. I've been trying different ROMs and I've currently settled on a rooted stock 2.2 ROM.
I want to change my kernel though, so I put my phone in download mode and flashed the Galaxian kernel via Odin, it finished and then my phone started boot looping. So I one clicked it and tried again with SGS flasher, boot loop. One click restored, tried with CWM, boot loop.
I've also tried Talon, Speedmod, Setiron and a stock kernel with all 3 methods. Nothing will flash without boot looping.
That kernel is designed for reoriented i-9000 roms

What about all of the other ones that were supposedly for 2.2 ROMs?

It needs to be a true captivate 2.2 kernel a lot are i9000's you just need to read the op for whichever kernel you are looking at thoroughly. 90% of the time the dev states if its an i9000 kernel.
The speed mod kernel here, forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893880 SHOULD work just make sure to wipe cache and dalvik cache in recovery after install and it should boot.

Yeah. You were trying to install a gingerbread kernel on a froyo ROM. That won't work.
Thanks guys! I think I downloaded the wrong version of SpeedMod the first time, it worked this time. Firstly I didn't know that the difference between i-9000 and i897 meant that much. Secondly, I'm not really sure how to read the kernel topics, they're confusing to say the least :S.
I'll learn sooner or later but thanks for your help everyone.

Yeah some are very confusing the biggest help Is to learn the difference in firmware revision codes. Most captivate roms/kernels begin with k. like kh3, kf1 that sort of thing and from what I remember j is for I9000 eg jv1 etc...
