[Q] XT1031 updated bootloader? (Boost Mobile edition) - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the Moto G XT1031 and I have not found a way to update the bootloader. Can anyone direct me to the official XT1031 Lollipop stock rom which has the bootloader update, or a flashable zip I can use to update my bootloader? Thanks.

Don't do it. Just wait for lollipop.

I suppose that's the only choice I have. Since Xposed isn't working on my 5.1 rom I might as well downgrade to 4.4.4, and I have the screen flickers anyway

I have the bootloader flashable zip, and there is a tool in the dev subforum that upgrades bootloader for many variants of G.
However, you do have to consider the fact that once you upgrade there's no way back, i.e. 4.4 ROMs will also flicker under 5.0 BL. There's also the potential threat of permanent bricking if you downgrade to official 4.4 and take OTAs.
I personally only use CM, so whatever gets the latest CM working will do for me, but as for you... think about it.

I used @AndyYan method a few months ago to upgrade bootloader on xt1031 and it worked flawlessly. No problems to this day.

[Q] LG G2 D80020C 4.4.2 Loki or unlocked bootloader? Custom recovery?

So I recently got the Lg G2 on att and updated it to the 4.4.2 though the ota. I have wanted root since i got it and root just came out like yesterday and i got it rooted but there is not really many threads about a recovery on the ota kitkat update. I don't want to downgrade or do all that. I've been looking every day and would just like to know whenever one comes out for the Att Lg g2 d80020c 4.4.2 rooted no recovery. Oh and i didn't root or anything before i took the ota. And if there is a thread already just let me know
Loki will not work with 4.4.2 since LG closed the loophole. The only way to install recovery is to revert back to 4.2.2, root and install recovery then you can flash 4.4.2 stock roms using TWRP or CWM.
We will have to wait for Loki update or patches for 4.4.2 bootloader once the exploit is found.

I'm interested in running a custom Rom on my mpcs LG f6 (ms500). I'm a part timer at this, my understanding of code is devastatingly deficient.
I have a an l9 and another f6 that won't even turn on and I'm wondering where, even, to begin.
All are mpcs.
All three, including the one I'm writing this on presently, were/are rooted.
An update took out the non-working f6, and the l9 was my bad.
I'm now on a rooted f6 running battery booster pro, overclocked with freedom kernal, with roehsoft ram expander doubling my ram to 1608.
I realize my circumstances are all over the place, but, if anyone has the genuine benevolence to help me where they can; my gratitude will be unquantifiable.

[Q] How to go back to latest stock ROM?

Hi. I just got my Moto G few days ago and I unlocked bootloader, rooted etc. So because of unlocking bootloader I guess I will not be able to get official motorola updates any more. My phone arrived with kk already, but I had some OTA update as soon as I turned the phone on and now it runs on 176.44.1.falcon_utms.Retail.en.GB. Now I want to explore some custom ROM-s and my question is how to go back to this ROM my phone is running on right now from custom rom? In this link http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=14 I can see that the latest ROM I can flash is Blur_Version.174.44.9.falcon_umts.Retail.en.GB. As 176 is higher than 174 I guess that my phone is running on latter ROM.
In general, is there a way to update to latest stock ROM-s from Motorola after unlocking the bootloader?
Yes you can! I recently flash that particular UK ROM and even though it was 4.4.2 I still got an OTA update which had "rare network drops, low sound and etc" in the changelogs, so I'd assume it's the same one you mentioned earlier in your post. Also, I should mention that I didn't receive said update on my Retail Asia ROM or on GPE ROM (that's what I'm currently on). So in the nutshell, unlocking bootloader doesn't stop OTA updates rooting does.
That is good to know, thank you, but why would rooting itself stop OTA? Usually devices lose drm keys after unlocking a bootloader, I don't see why would rooting itself wipe drm... I guess you don't lose drm after unlocking bootloader than... That is very kind of Motorola.

Best path to get current.

Hi,
My wife has this phone and I'd like to get her updated to a more current rom, preferably CM 11.
She's currently bootloader unlocked with twrp 2.5.0.0 and running an older 4.3 rom based on cm 10.2 (eclipse). Baseband is vanquish_bp_100730.160.64.15p
We never took the update that got rid of the root or bootloader unlock, but now I hear that's been unlocked again so I figured its time.
Should I just fastboot back to stock and update or is there an easier way for us still unlocked users to get a current twrp and CM 11? Please advise.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
you could use this, it will take you str8 to KK. there are other methods and rsd, but i find this easiest, and i maintain it
i highly recommend using the "data wipe" script, given your situation.
afterwards, install your recovery and flash su.zip.
Profit

So if I upgrade to the kk bootloader, and then root with that utility, will my bootloader still be unlocked? What version of twrp should I install? Should I just chill out on stock with root and unlocked until CM11 is stable?

Yes, once the bootloader has been unlocked, you could have taken the 9.18 OTA, which patches the EXPLOIT allowing the unlocking, and you still would have been unlocked.
If you took the KitKat OTA, you would still be unlocked. Once unlocked, it stays unlocked since it's a physical change in the phone (blowing an eFuse). You can't set the eFuse to an unblown state. Kind of like a light bulb or the old screw-in fuses for a fuse box in your house. Once the filament in a light bulb breaks, or the fuse blows, it's "blown" for good.
So, once the bootloader was unlocked on your wife's phone, you could have taken any OTA and you would have been safe. No need to go to KK OTA and then unlock it again because it's still unlocked.
You've been safe this whole time.
I ended up putting the latest snapshot build of CM11 on after using the utility to flash a newer twrp. Working like a champ. I'll wait for cm11 to get stable on the kk bootloader before upgrading that. Thanks for all the help!

41.18 bootloader in cm11 problem

i flash the new bootloader for future upgrade in xt1033 asia with cm11
although there is a performance improvement(or just my imagination)
there is actually screen flickering on android 4.4
anybody have same experience???
5.0 bootloader isn't fully compatible with 4.4 and older 5.0 ROMs, and vice versa. Moreover, you can't downgrade the bootloader, so just quit using CM11 and jump on the CM12 bandwagon.

is there really no way to downgrade bootloader ?? even with "fastboot flash motoboot bootloader" ??
Can I restore my phone to full stock if I upgrade ? (the problem is that I don't know where to find lollipop really stock ROM, but I have kitkat)
You cannot downgrade the bootloader from 41.18.
If you don't want the flickering, you will need to install a stock lollipop ROM with stock recovery.
Same problem here, this new bootloader sux.
There must be a way do change it or? I mean like some hard bricker program or something than overwrites the new bootloader..
I've never seen a post from an XDA member that was able to downgrade the bootloader.
Can be, after using bricker tool i killed my phone xD cant unblick it cuz no files released so dont try that ._.
Damn, I was hoping I could downgrade too.
Installed .18 and a Lolipop rom, but I`ve tried pretty much all of them and they simply aren`t as quick as the KK ones on my phone. I was hoping I could downgrade
Can this bootloader cause calls to drop out ? I`ve had it keep cutting out on 3 different calls this morning.

Anyone know where to find old nightlies?

I've been running CM12 for a while now, but today it just crashed and wouldn't boot. Sadly, all the nightlies available to download won't install due to my boot loader which I'm not currently willing or able to update, so I was wondering if anyone knew where to find old nightlies, or more specifically where the XT1032 2015 0314 ROM is (which Is the last one I understand which has neither the boot loader issues nor the annoying screen updating). Im not really too fussed about the newer, small improvements and will probably only update when there is an easy and (mostly) risk free way of updating the boot loader anyway, I just want a version of CM12 with features like the theme manager and custom notification bar icons which arnt available on the version i currently am forced to run.
Thanks in advance
The only places I know:
1. goo.im/devs/CM
2. oss.reflected.net/jenkins (you have to know the build sequence number for the specific nightly)
Updating the bootloader isn't hard - there are actually recovery-flashable zips that will do the trick. These are model-specific (e.g. XT1032's can be only used on XT1032), so you should search with your model number. If you have 1031 or 1033 I'll send you the files directly.
Also, there's a way of flashing these new nightlies on old BL which involves modifying updater-script, but even though you can flash it, the screen flicker problem will be there.
What solution you will take is totally up to you.

I had a look and didn't find anything, but thanks anyway! And thank you for the offers if the zips however I have an XT1032. I managed to find a stock motorola rom and am in the process of updating it it 5.0.2 via the official motorola update, would this also update the boot loader able to run the newest CM 12 updates?
EDIT: I can't actually install the update, it reboots into TWRP (2.8.5.0), skips the installation, and then when booted again it restarts and does the same? Does this mean I have to manually install the update, and if so where would i find this?

First of all applying a stock rom update requires already installed old firmware
And second it is possible only with a stock recovery

First of all I wasn't being rude its just that people here ask things that are already told many times before( like for example some are still asking if cm supports dual Sim) and still help them if I know about it and second I didn't know that CM link gave an error so he should have mentioned it
And for flashing stock firmware there are literally a lot of guides with link to the firmware and standard set of fastboot command
People should Google things first and then they can obviously ask

True. But see, people flashing *custom* ROMs rarely expect that they have to flash a *stock* ROM first in order for it to function as planned. Anyway, let's just tell similar people to go to General section for guides and alike, because (damn) Google isn't really doing me justice recently...

A direct (but time-consuming) way to upgrade his bootloader to 5.0's. Isn't this the whole reason why he's looking for an older nightly?
If I had the bootloader files for XT1032 I would've directly handed him the flashable zip though... Even faster than fastboot.

Great then. Here's my flashable zip for XT1033 that should do the same thing: http://d-h.st/rI1n
Keep in mind: the original creator of the package is not me - I only modified it to put in files specific to XT1033 and prevent flashing a few suspicious partitions. Because I manually updated mine using fastboot, I can't test out the package personally, but responses from my Chinese community is fairly positive. Be careful as anyone proceeds with this.

Thanks for the help, I ditched the plan of reverting to stock after finding a guide for flashing an updated boot loader with OS X, I only wish CM kept old nightlies for longer or at least remove links for ones they have taken down. If this thread has taught me anything though, it's to keep backups!
