"Mobile hotspot has turned off" over and over - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks
I get this notification frequently when I wake my new Shield LTE tablet up. It comes from the ATT mobile all access application. Interestingly I have never even once activated the ATT mobile hotspot. So it is shocking that it has turned off...
It started after I configured the native Android hot spot. I turned it on and checked that my laptop could connect via WiFi and access the internet. Then I turned off the hotspot (again, natively in Android not through the AT&T app)
.
Any idea how to get the notification to stop short of uninstalling the kinda convenient ATT app? I like it for monitoring usage of the data plan.
Marc
PS shield is stock unrooted 5.01

Problem: Mobile Data not turning off when I use WiFi

Pretty much as stated in the title. I rooted and installed the stock Inspire rom with sideloading and all that jazz from attn1. Before I rooted, when I turned off WiFi, it turned off Mobile Data (gave it a check mark under H+ instead of 2 arrows). But since the root, it doesn't do that most of the time. Sometimes I can fix it by going into Airplane Mode, enabling WiFi and turning off Airplane Mode. That'll fix it sometimes. What's going on? Anyone got a clue?
Try checking what apps you have running in the background. I've seen that sometimes some programs will try to use mobile data even if wifi is on. If you go to Settings>Apps>Manage Apps you can try closing apps using data one by one to see if after you close a certain one mobile data disconnects. Try any AT&T app especially.

I tried shutting down all the running services and such, but it didn't fix it. I installed "TrafficStats Lite" to see what's drawing the bandwidth, and it just gives me "Total GPRS/EDGE/3G 55 kB", no programs using it. If I intentionally run a program on 3G, it shows up there. I'm stumped.
I had the same problem. I rebooted and problem solved. Also you can put the mobile network widget on your screen and just turn off the network when on wifi.
Check the apn set up. I created an apn to enable WiFi hotspot w/o data tether plan. When using my created apn my data never turned off either. Upon switching back to Medianet data was turned off and my "check mark" under the H+ was restored. Hope this helps.

[Completed] Lost WiFi tethering capability...how to get it back?

For starters, I have a Kyocera C6750 Hydro Elite. Got the phone in September of 2013 because it was small and had somewhat decent specs at the time. Anyhow, I rooted the official ROM with Framaroot. Root Checker confirms this. Running Android 4.1.2 and never upgraded due to the fuzzy details on loss of some root features. Up until last night I had been using an app called "Portable Wifi hotspot". Had no issues with the app working the way I wanted to and often would eat up 60+GB of data each month. So on to last night...
I was in the middle of playing a game on my tablet when all of a sudden my WiFi connection dropped. Went to look at my phone and it was randomly rebooting. Weird. So it reboots and I tap on my hotspot app and it gives me the same message that it has activated. But this time, I'm missing an icon on the taskbar at the top of the screen that shows how many devices are connected to hotspot. I go to my tablet and search for the WiFi connection multiple times...no dice. I go to the mobile hotspot section in the Android settings and notice " mobile hotspot" is unchecked (never had been before). When I tap to engage it, it says that I do not have a mobile hotspot subscription and that I need to subscribe either via My Verizon or calling a Verizon rep. Now I'm getting concerned. So then I install FoxFi. I turn on the WiFi hotspot and it goes through the process as normal and confirms it is on. I verify in Android settings that mobile hotspot is engaged. I then try to find the connection on my tablet ( I even reboot the tablet just to make sure)....NOTHING! I have officially lost WiFi hotspot functionality on my rooted device as of last night. Can anyone else confirm the same? Did Verizon force a remote reboot of my phone? WTF is going on? Has Verizon flagged my SIM/account as high data usage and figured out how to block all WiFi hotspot apps? Is there any way to get it back for free or will I now have to fork over the extra $30/mo to add the mobile hotspot feature for unlimited data plans? Please advise.

Turn off your connection optimizer in settings

I now have everything turned off now it only seems tobe happing when hotapot is active it tells me that activating wifi will disconnect hotspot then it says cencel of turn on wifi if I hit cencel it will pop back up quick if I do nothing it just sit there untill screen blacks out then turns on wifi by its self and kicks me off hotspot really making me mad
My Sprint Note 5 does the same thing. When using the hotspot, it keeps displaying the "Turning on WiFi will disable hotspot notification. As soon as I return home and the Note 5 sees my home WiFi network is automatically connects and kills the hotspot. Even though I haven't responded to the notification.
If I'm not using the hotspot, then it never automatically turns WiFi back on when returning home.
I have set location services to use GPS only, set Smart network to off. Yet, when using hotspot, it keeps trying to turn WiFi back on.
Same here :/
I wonder why can we get a dev insight on this
That is connection optimizer at work which switches when you get home it looks for the best signal..... turn it off in settings.

Thats wierd i have no issues with wifi and hotspot turning off.....
I can say I have the same problem. I'm on sprint, not rooted but used the MSL code to open hotspot. Me and the Wife both have note 5's both with the same problem.
I also have connections optimizer and all settings I know of keeping wifi off.
Only does it when hotspot is on.

Help with wifi bug and hotspot woes

I have a sprint galaxy S6 that I rooted years ago with the pingpong root. So its on the stock rom and never updated passed 5.0.2 I believe. I haven't done much with the root except enjoy the use of the hotspot that sprint tries so hard to deny users. However lately I've been having problems. The build in hotspot no longer works, and I suspect its some stealth update from sprint. It'll turn in without issues, but then I'll watch my mobile data disappear. The 4G blinks off, then it tries 3g, then nothing, then 4g, 3g, nothing, etc... Turn the hotspot off and everything returns to normal.
Fine. I'll download "Wifi Tether Router" and use that. However, every 5-15 mins my laptop loses connection and the hotspot won't show up in the list of networks despite it still running. What I suspect happening is my wifi is quickly turning on and off, disrupting the hotspot. Now, after getting the phone and going through all the settings, I turned off connection optimizer and unchecked the allow scanning. However every once in awhile while using the phone, if I happened to have the drop down menu down.. I'd notice the wifi quickly cycle on then off. It never affected anything I did so I left it be. Now when using the tether app, I rechecked all my settings, even turning off "keep wifi on while asleep" and checked the dev settings to make sure the wifi scanning/roaming was off. I am completely lost. Are there any settings I'm missing? Is there anything I can do with root to stop wifi from turning itself on without user interaction?
Or, is there any way to fix my built in hotspot? I have a new laptop and now have more use for this function.
Thanks guys.

Mobile hotspot downgrade firmware/software

Okay, so first of all, I'm not sure if this is the right forum. But this applies to a couple of forums.
For a while I used this little trick for activating my mobile hotspot on att g955u (the s8+) using the "connect to a faulty wifi and turn on mobile hotspot" and I would always ignore updating my phone from the OTA because I didn't want anything to change from the original stock bought phone. But a few days ago my phone decided to turn off and update itself. So I turned on dev options and the auto update was on. Turned it off problem solved. So I thought. At the time the mobile hotspot hadn't been affected but I woke up today turned my phone on and it automatically started updating again. But this time it had updated and changed something in my phone that has affected my ability to turn on my hotspot. And I've gone through and tried to figure out which service is affecting it but I can't seem to find anything new. And basically my question is, is there any way to get my phone back to the way it was when i originally bought it? Firmware, security, and everything that could have been changed with those two updates. Or is there another way to find out which services affect my hotspot so I can disable/enable accordingly. I used my mobile hotspot to play multiplayer on my ps4. Kind of pissed me off that my phone updates itself without consent.
