Turn off your connection optimizer in settings

I now have everything turned off now it only seems tobe happing when hotapot is active it tells me that activating wifi will disconnect hotspot then it says cencel of turn on wifi if I hit cencel it will pop back up quick if I do nothing it just sit there untill screen blacks out then turns on wifi by its self and kicks me off hotspot really making me mad

My Sprint Note 5 does the same thing. When using the hotspot, it keeps displaying the "Turning on WiFi will disable hotspot notification. As soon as I return home and the Note 5 sees my home WiFi network is automatically connects and kills the hotspot. Even though I haven't responded to the notification.
If I'm not using the hotspot, then it never automatically turns WiFi back on when returning home.
I have set location services to use GPS only, set Smart network to off. Yet, when using hotspot, it keeps trying to turn WiFi back on.

Same here :/

I wonder why can we get a dev insight on this

That is connection optimizer at work which switches when you get home it looks for the best signal..... turn it off in settings.

Thats wierd i have no issues with wifi and hotspot turning off.....

I can say I have the same problem. I'm on sprint, not rooted but used the MSL code to open hotspot. Me and the Wife both have note 5's both with the same problem.
I also have connections optimizer and all settings I know of keeping wifi off.
Only does it when hotspot is on.

Finally solved wifi drop problems

Don't know if this has been already figured out, but I have been suffering from wifi calling drops every 3 to 5 minutes, and nothing I could do would fix it... Was sent a replacement phone, and that was even worse.
For whatever reason, after running the wifi calling app, go under settings
Settings >> Connection Preferences >> SET TO Wi-Fi Only
This stopped my wifi from dropping my calls.
The downside to this is obviously, you need to change this setting once you are outside or where you no longer want to use Wi-Fi calling. Switch to Wi-Fi preferrered OR Cellular Preferred.
Does anyone know if a script could be written to do this from the desktop... using Gscript??? I am sure I could figure it out well enough to write it...
did you ever check your wifi sleep policy settings?
default state, i believe, turns off wifi when the screen turns off. I have mine set to 'never'.
Not sure --- where is wifi sleep?
But I know I tried to use Wifi Fixer from the Market, and I am sure that this app would do this as it was supposed to fix wifi connections.
Go into Settings, then WiFi settings, then menu button, then advanced settings. Sleep policy is first option. Set to never..but it will lessen your battery a bit...

wifi fallback issue on SGH-i727????

Hi,
Just wonder if anybody is experiencing the same wifi fallback issue on the SGH-i727?
Basically, the phone doesn't automatically fall back to the previously added wifi network from LTE/4G when the screen is off. To get around that, I'll need to hit the power button once every time I enter the wifi range. When the screen is turned on by hitting the power button, I will see the 4G/LTE being replaced by the wifi icon very quickly. After that, it will then stay connected to the wifi network regardless whether the screen is on or off.
I was able to confirm this issue by monitoring the app traffic before and after I turned on the screen.
Without turning on the screen in the wifi range, the phone will stay on the 4g/LTE network forever even though the previously added wifi network is available.
I have already tried out different routers and it's still the same. SSID broadcast is on. I am thinking if there's a bug with the phone. Note that on my phone, my "Wi-Fi sleep policy" under the advanced menu of the "Wi-Fi settings" is always set to "never". Also, it's a stock ROM, nothing is modified at all.
This issue has never happened on other phones. What you think? Am I missing anything here?
After playing with it more, I noticed that the phone will never do the wifi handshake when the screen is off.
I tried turning off and on the wifi in the Wi-Fi settings. If I turn off the screen quickly before the phone gets connected to the wifi network again, it *will* remain unconnected until the screen is turned on again. =(
Did you go into the advanced wifi settings and change the wifi sleep policy?

No, I didn't. I've never touched that setting. The "Wi-Fi sleep policy" is always set to "never".
My phone can still be connected to wifi when the screen is off, so it doesn't seem related to the "Wi-Fi sleep policy". The problem is only that it won't do any wifi connection handshake during screen-off.
Am I the only one having this issue? I guess that's more of a software issue rather than a hardware issue?
Have you tried the AT&T wifi app? It automatically turns off and on wifi as needed
No, that doesn't help.
Yes, I do realize I'm bringing back a thread from the dead, but...
I just got a Samsung Stratosphere (SCH-i405 -- a CDMA-1X/EVDO/LTE Galaxy S phone) and it does EXACTLY the same thing. It's ironic, on the Stratosphere they added a bit of fun that CONSTANTLY lets you know there's networks (which I had to disable), but it doesn't connect to the wifi networks I do have in there until I turn on the screen I guess that's just how it is; at least it doesn't kill the wifi once it IS connected.
If anyone knows a programmatic way to bypass this, I'd be interested, and I could write up a wifi app to implement the solution. I'm guesisng it's a behavior of the drivers though and would take some custom ROM or something to fix.
You could always try to use tasker for automatically connecting to the wifi using radio antenna or maybe can't remember if possible by identifying certain wifi spot.

[Q] Having Problems with CM10 profiles on SGS3

I made three custom profiles for CM10 for when I'm home, out, or sleeping. However, when I switch to any profile, it will disable what I have checked off but when I go to another profile and that option is no longer selected to be disabled, it doesn't turn that option back on, or on in general. For instance, for home I have Mobile Data, Bluetooth, GPS,and Portable Wi-Fi hotspot disabled. If I go to Out, while has mobile data enabled, but WiFi turned off, it will disable WiFi but won't turn on mobile data. If I go back to home where WiFi is enabled, it won't turn WiFi back on. I hope I made my problem understandable, lol. Anyways, has anyone else been having this problem? And is this a known problem by the CM team? Or could it be something with my phone?

Wifi vs data plan priority

When I'm at home the Nexus 5 automatically uses my home wifi for Internet access which is great.
The problem occurs when I'm away from home and there's either a weak wifi signal or an available wifi I have not logged into. In these cases the browser takes forever or tells me I have no Internet access. If I remember to disable wifi then the browser rapidly connects through the phone's unlimited data and I'm on the Web.
So, the phone insists on using wifi even if the signal is poor or unlogged in until I disable wifi. Is there a way to tell the phone to connect to whichever is best, wifi or data plan?
In wifi settings you can set to avoid poor connections.
There's not a lot you can do if you're connected to a network that requires browser authentication... maybe automate turning wifi off

Thanks. That may be something for Tasker to do : turn off wifi if networks x, y, or z are not available. I could always turn it on if I want to add a new network which would happen less often than constantly remembering to turn it off.
How about it, rootSU?

With that method you would still need to manually toggle WiFi back on afterward. Since the WiFi will be off it won't be able to detect local networks without draining battery using the "always scanning" feature.
You could try using cell tower locations instead.

Yeah used to do something similar. I have routine in life which made it simpler...
Turn off when not connected to x,y,z
Turn off when time to leave home unless connected to x,y,z
Turn on when time to arrive home unless connected to x,y,z

Makes sense. A lot simpler.

I made it even simpler though. I use wifi at work too so I literally just turn it off when I know I'm travelling. So it turns off between 06:45 and 08:00 then again at 16:30 and 18:00

Help with wifi bug and hotspot woes

I have a sprint galaxy S6 that I rooted years ago with the pingpong root. So its on the stock rom and never updated passed 5.0.2 I believe. I haven't done much with the root except enjoy the use of the hotspot that sprint tries so hard to deny users. However lately I've been having problems. The build in hotspot no longer works, and I suspect its some stealth update from sprint. It'll turn in without issues, but then I'll watch my mobile data disappear. The 4G blinks off, then it tries 3g, then nothing, then 4g, 3g, nothing, etc... Turn the hotspot off and everything returns to normal.
Fine. I'll download "Wifi Tether Router" and use that. However, every 5-15 mins my laptop loses connection and the hotspot won't show up in the list of networks despite it still running. What I suspect happening is my wifi is quickly turning on and off, disrupting the hotspot. Now, after getting the phone and going through all the settings, I turned off connection optimizer and unchecked the allow scanning. However every once in awhile while using the phone, if I happened to have the drop down menu down.. I'd notice the wifi quickly cycle on then off. It never affected anything I did so I left it be. Now when using the tether app, I rechecked all my settings, even turning off "keep wifi on while asleep" and checked the dev settings to make sure the wifi scanning/roaming was off. I am completely lost. Are there any settings I'm missing? Is there anything I can do with root to stop wifi from turning itself on without user interaction?
Or, is there any way to fix my built in hotspot? I have a new laptop and now have more use for this function.
Thanks guys.
bump
