Greenify: someone use it on N5? What are the apps it's hibernate?

I personally believe that the main weakness of the Nexus 5 is battery life. After trying for about a week the official app of Qualcomm Snapdragon BatteryGuru (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xiam.snapdragon.app) without becoming satisfied (I have not found significant improvements, may have only a placebo effect), I switched to Greenify (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify) with the Donation Package.
Do some of you use it? Users comments on Play Store seem excited (so I decided to try the paid version).
The paid version also allows you to hibernate the system apps, but I have not enabled this function (and would therefore be excluded almost all Google Apps), according to you should enable this option? Or rather, what are the apps that should hibernate / greenify?

I use it, and I'm pretty satisfied, you can theoretically hibernate all the apps you want, but is not good with apps need too synching like emails, chat, messenger and apps wich you have widgets, otherwise they will not work properly

I'm not sure what the point of Greenify is then. If you can't greenify the apps you need, like Gmail, texts, etc., then how is battery life saved?

geenify all the other crappily written apps that you install. if you greenify apps like gmail, you wont get your email in a timely manor. there are plenty of other apps that start up without you opening them that can be greenified.

Have you tested that? I haven't but push notifications should wake up Gmail.

I agree that it's not good with apps with widgets on the home screen because the author of Greenify specify it, but I not agree for apps that need synchronization/notifications like emails, chat, messenger because it they use GCM (Google Cloud Messaging) they can be hibernated without lose push notifications!
I doubt only with system apps...

I have greenified quite everything that does not provide notification.

I use it for Facebook and Netflix, that helped my battery tremendously.

I used to use Greenify on my HTC One. I'd hibernate everything that wasn't 'system' and thought it was doing some good. Then I discovered that I was actually getting better battery life WITHOUT using it, so I don't really believe that it does any good.

To reiterate what others have said, I use to Greenify to hibernate any apps that aren't pushing me notifications. I'm honestly not sure if I see a huge difference in battery because it could be a number of things from changing ROMs or updating kernels, etc. But one thing for sure is that I'm actually pretty satisfied with the battery life on my N5. With the N4 I would be lucky to last me to dinner, but now I have plenty of battery to spare by the time I'm passing out in bed.
So I guess Greenify can potentially help battery life, but it's definitely not the answer to a magically longer lasting battery.

Greenify is excellent. But using Greenify without knowing the cause of the problem isn't going to fix anything. Think of it as a bandaid. A bandaid for poorly written (usually intentionally) apps. Facebook comes to mind.
It won't greenify system apps without using Xposed (which doesn't work with ART). These system apps, Gmail, Chrome, Keep (I froze all the other junk Google apps), are actually pretty well behaved these days (they had huge issues in the past).
I think that with KitKat, Greenify has lost some of it's usefulness, with how aggressive KK is in killing off unused apps.
The app you should be downloading is BetterBatteryStats. Upload some logs for us, and most likely we can fix the problem for you. When the cause of the problem is determined, you can then choose the best course of action yourself.
The battery on the N5 is fine. I ran a BBS log while I was sleeping. After 6ish hours, the usage was 0.1% per hour. I would say anywhere between 0.1-0.4 is good. Wifi and mobile network, doesn't matter much if connection is solid.

anyways, greenify is not there to help battery, its there to have more free ram. but it can potentially help battery if you are running apps that open themselves and drain battery, like that aweful facebook app.

a month ago, my battery consumption was fantastic. A good example is the month_ago attachment.
Now, two weeks ago my battery consumption is horrible and can not find the explanation.
I installed a couple of applications of GPS and Maps, but are already uninstalled.
I made a test 6 hours without any use, no GPS, no BT, no WiFi, no 3G, no calls and has spent almost 50%.
BetterBattery Stats not give me any application that is consuming the battery.
Any idea how I can find out?
Model: Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V
Rom: Legacy Xperia 10.1 CM
Android: 4.2.2
Anyone have any idea?

uninstall task "killers": android already does this for you
IF root: BootManager (XPosed Framework) : control which apps launch on power up
IF any app shows web ads = malware. uninstall. not only does it steal bandwidth, but also wastes battery
reflect on your use of "background data"
reflect on your frequency of checking for updates (email, social whoring, other messages)
consider your screen brightness settings
have you tinkered with 'perfomance' options via a ROOT app
a change in usage habits will be reflected by a change in battery longevity : this is purely rational
IF root: AFwall+ : track app use of your internets interfaces [wifi, mobile, bt pan, etc]
again: uninstall ALL adware or apps showing web ads. Or use certain root tools for ripping out the ad loading junk of existing apps. Blocking ads is not as effective as preventing apps from requesting ads per se

In my holidays, I needed a GPS in my tablet, but dont work. So, in my phone, I´d installed "GPS over BT". The idea was pair devices, get location gps with the phone and send over bt to the tablet.
Therefore, when using the applications, devices were being charged at once.
When holidays ends, apps are uninstalled and the problems begins.
I think that the gps and bluetooh have been set enabled, but I'm going to the settings and there are disabled.

3 or 4 weeks ago, all work perfect. 1 or 2 weks ago, all bad. It´s the same usage.
I know it's my fault, when I installed or uninstalled any app...

How can i dump the log?? I don´t know how get a more detailed log.
In BBS, the menu options in the main screen are:

Set custom ref.
More (Graphs, Raw stats, Order by...)

Again: [attempting to] open interweb connections USES battery. Simply blocking connections does little for battery (but more for sacrosanct privacy)

The developer does not understand the verb "opt":

Oh, that is suboptimal. With BlueGPS you pair a GNSS receiver to your tablet (or phone). BlueTooth uses less battery than phone GPS.

Not all phones draw more power than they use. There are several devices for sale that will help you identify this better than installed apps.

This is prudent system wide. Overclock without exogenous cooling is extra foolish. Per-app CPU throttling is a different matter. Changing "nice" level per-app might help.

I've been pretty busy and I could not answer before.
I made a test with another battery from another phone of the same model with the same age as my battery, but less hours of usage.
The results are as follows: in the same scenario as the previous test, uses almost 25% less than before.
So, it seems that the battery is nearing its end slowly. Attach any images.
I decided to buy a new battery (with more capacity, and < 7$) and test how it behaves.
If it continues much the same, I will reinstall the current ROM that I have, beacuse I'm pretty happy with it and I'm tired of researching which application is causing the problem.

Oreo and apps like Greenify

With all the work Google put into background battery life in Oreo, are apps like Greenify needed anymore? That was one of the primary reasons to root IMHO. Do we need that?

I'm wondering the same thing.

Oreo caches apps in the back ground.
It works, but I still use Greenify to clean up the apps that I do not want cached.

I personally felt the need for greenify was obsolete since Nougat arrived. Also in my experience I found that using it was detrimental/made no difference to battery life over time.

When I first got my Pixel 2, idle drain seemed high, so I tried Greenify. It seemed to help. I then uninstalled Greenify and there was no difference in battery life. I now believe the initial drain was just part of the phone calibrating itself and Greenify did not really do anything.

For some apps like instagram/facebook you really need greenify to prevent them running in the background.

I use Greenify to control the play store app, services framework, and other system apps that think they need to suck down the battery. I use Google Maps all the time but I don't want it running in the background when I am not using the phone. My phone is not rooted and I plan on keeping it that way for awhile. So far the battery is lasting a long time but I don't use the assistant or any other service that goes beyond making phone calls and texting. Facebook and the others can keep their battery draining apps to themselves.

I swapped out Greenify for Naptime. Naptime makes a difference.

Gotta post this because I didn't think it was possible. So today I disabled google play service and the play store and a few other Google apps with titanium. I was already averaging about 8hrs SOT using helix engine and elemental kernal but then this happened

I've never heard of helix engine. What does it do?
Is it a replacement for Google play services? If not, crippling a smartphone to get good screen on time isn't very productive

Too each its own. You can download apps from several different outlets that are safe. The only apps I had to replace was messenger with textra and gmail with Nine. I exported my contacts from the contacts app as vcf and restored them to my phone memory. I use vance tube which is an upgrade over youtube. When i want to sync my photos I'll enable google service framework to backup photos. Everybody doesn't need a phone to automatically and intrusively do simple task such as sync for them. The phone seems to even run better without those background services running .

Correct. Though with the same set up I average 9hrs SOT with my Z2 force on 8.0 with I smaller battery than this phone.

Can't say I know much about Helix to trust it compared to microg and Elementalx...

Here is an explanation of what it does:

For premium users, it integrates the use of Machine Learning to automatically adjust each tunable to achieve the desired jank percentage (how smooth or laggy the user wants their apps to run).

Do you need Xposed for microG to work? I've always wanted to try it

I'm curious what, if any, settings you have enabled for ElementalX. I installed it after the November update. I thought that I had pretty decent battery life with only using Helix Engine. Right now I'd imagine it's about the same.
I'm also curious if there are ways to disable some aspects of Google Play Services. I unfortunately still use some Google things due to my school account. I remember in the past threads for better battery life but that seemed like a real hassle.

It just controls per app Cpu and Gpu speeds and governor settings. So I just set profiles to underclock less ram extensive apps I use a lot.

I was just trying to point out before, using something like a custom rom with microG, or a Google rom debloated and with microG and then a custom kernel, I wasn't really sure if this was going to be much of help, or worth bothering over.
If Helix was such a big thing, don't you think you'd see it everywhere? Thing is, it's not...

Lol gotcha

You can disable Google Play Services if you uncheck Find My Device and Google Pay as device admin privileges.

After about 2 minutes of aimlessly speed reading to see what the hell this is I noticed there mean Opie developers page says in pulled how they're not they're working on this project any further so whatever this is was or can be God bless it

Check again after a few days.... Btfery drain is always worse after a factory reset or on a new phone as Android learns your usage Patterns

I have a 10+ running on Pie.
It took me months to sort out excessive battery usage. If your phone is running warm at idle you need to track down the causes. I use PD MDM package blocker which helps a lot if used wisely. A lot of junk that needs to be disable in settins too. My nominal battery usage screen off, plain jane AOD on is 1% an hour. Surfing the web, watching a vid is about 10% an hour. Your device probably uses more though even when optimized not sure though.
In Samsung Device Care, use factory load if it is the one with 360 degrees on it. Do not update.
•In Device Care punch Optimize for power/screen setting.
•Toggle on fast charging and -nothing- else. (see image)
You can then package block this app.
•This configuration will also keep power management from unwantedly killing apps in use like Poweramp. All other unused apps should go into standby mode when not in use or screen off... without power management options being toggled!
Use no 3rd party power management and for now don't toggle any apps to sleep.
•In Developer options>stand by apps, all buckets should show as active, if not unwanted power management is active.
Let the base Google default settings handle power management. Enabling advanced power management appears to cause conflicts leading to excessive CPU/battery usage.
•Any cloud app will steal power and bandwidth, Google Backup Transport and Goggle Services Framework are prime offenders.
•Disable all carrier, Samsung, Google etc diagnostic feedback as well as carrier updates and Playstore.
Enable as needed.
•Use Samsung Gallaxy Labs Battery Tracker to help track usage.
Framework will still show usage with AOD is active about 1% @ hour when blocked. It should be well below 1% when phone is active.
I've posted more detailed info in the 10+ forum.
Each phone configuration varies so try these suggestions, what works for me may or may not work for you.
Get a package disabler and start locking it down... play with it.

Which app are you referring to? Is it Package Disabler Pro? Searching "PD MDM" brings up a whole load of different PD apps on the Play Store.

They aren't on Playstore. You have to look a little or know about them.
Been using it for at least 3 years probably longer. Very stable. A great tool for non-rooted Samsungs.

Thanks for link. It's weird though, as the app made by Policedeveloper on the Play Store has the same UI and same name, they also use identical screenshots with an old Samsung phone model! I wonder if they are the same developer or one has copied the other.
I was using the one on the Play Store but it did break after upgrading to Android 10. I am considering buying the app you recommend but don't want to get burned again. I know its not a lot of money but I don't want to be sold a lemon!

I was using the one on the Play Store but it did break after upgrading to Android 10. I am considering buying the app you recommend but don't want to get burned again. I know its not a lot of money but I don't want to be sold a lemon!

Don't know who stole what but know I'll never use anything from Policedeveloper again. Trashware.
Didn't appreciate their lame attitude when I emailed them either.
I've used PD MDM on Kitkat and Pie. Lol, no plans to jam Q into my 10+ though; it's running stable and fast.
I was apprehensive at first too, but they have consistently given me a quality app.
If they say it's compatible you should be good to go.

In Google Play Services>app permissions, disable all to get Google Transport Framework from using excessive battery. Google Transport Framework and Google Transport are package blocked as well. The former is the last step to shut these power sucking background apks down. So far I haven't lost any functionality I use.
Took me a year to track all of these down. Ha!
Should be 94 blocked apks, may have lost some in the confusion of manipulating the list.
Some of the blocked apks I've enabled the widget toogle to turn them off/on like Playstore.
•I'm running a 10+ on Pie... no idea how the Fold on Q will respond to this list but probably similarly.
•This list is customized for my set up and circumstances; each user's needs are different.
Best practice is to formulate your own list... the hard way. That way you'll learn what the apks you're blocking do and how the apks interact/their dependencies.
