Urgent help z3 screen replacement - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
Just replaced my z3 touch screen
Tested just before assemblying and apply glue ( the oem adhesive )
It was 100% functional
But after finishing all and booting up
A bar of screen not responding at all
See screenshot

That's a perfect rectangle... You should take it to service centre or repair...
And... What are you doing there, again?

I'd guess heating the glue to harden it.

Wait i explain it well ( excuse me for my bad english)
I dropped my phone 2 months ago
Went to a repair shop to change the screen ( LCD + Digitilizer ) ( total cost = + 200 USD ) ( fully functional )
They changed it but used some ordinary adhesive to stick the screen to the frame
After 2 days the screen began to come out of the frame
I googled and saw you need to use the "original adhesive for the z3
Bought it on ebay and got it yesterday
Opened my z3
Took the old glue off and installed the Adhesive i bought
Before i put the back cover i turned on the phone and checked everything - All was working even the touch was 100% functional
I put the back cover
And heated the adhesive to make it get its full power ( like stated on videos )
After that i turned on the phone
All is working except that bar on the screen ( it displays but it dont respond to touch , it dont even sense the touch in the service test !! )
I hope i have been clear enough
Thank you a lot for helping me
And also i dont have any more money to spend on this phone
I need to use it for at least 3 years before buying another one ( financial prblem)

What kind of adhesive did you use? I've got the same problem than you.
Try to buy a new lcd screen on ebay, you can find a non original one arround 40$.

Where to buy OEM replacement touch screen ?

I had the phone just for few days. 2 days ago the my cat set the phone flying from my table to the concrete floor. The touch screen did not make it :crying:
I could probably do the change by my self but I can't find a place where I could get the LCD + touch screen.
Any suggestions ?

This early on you'd have to contact Google or LG and explain that you need the LCD+Digitizer replacing.

Think its a bit too early to find them online allready. You might contact a service center, maybe they also sell the parts you need.
You are going to need a whole new front as the ifixit teardown said that the screen is fused to the chassis.

ALSO. It's gonna be an expensive part....
For my business with new iPhone parts they're always crazy expensive. Even s3 screens are ridiculous because most android parts aren't as mass produced as iPhone parts.
Distributed veretch
I have found a site but the assembly includes not only the screen + touch + the front panel but also the parts I don't need: battery, front-facing camera, earpiece speaker, headphone jack, and other minor parts. The cost is $217.90

Better sell your phone for parts and buy a new one bro, less xpensive than fixing it
As suggested above sell it for parts and throw in the cat for free to sweeten the deal...

I have the phone in UK version for GSM and LTE banda so the cost is 399 GBP + shipping 15 GBP. (1 British pound =
1.6009 U.S. dollars) so I will try to fix it.

I think your safest bet is contacting Google, perhaps they could help out and replace a new phone for let's say half the price or something? I mean it's worth the try, that's what I would do, maybe not get them to give a brand new one but have them repair for a cheaper fee tell them how fragile the screen is and that you had some other phones fall down on their screens and they would not break down so you expect the same high quality from them, worth a shot?
another member in another thread said he called his credit card company and there was automatic insurance on the phone for the first 30-60 days or something like that. End of story is they are covering a cracked screen on his Nex5

[Q] Screen replacment

I have been lucky with my screen so far but my co-worker's phone died not even two weeks in. He said his kid had knocked a glass (cup/mug) over hitting the screen at an unusual angle.
The phone it self works grate but it must have caught the screen at the wrong angle for it to crack. I say this because I have dropped my Nexus 5 with some force and it has been fine so far. Also its not often I see a crack starting from the side (see pic) and not one of the corners.
The only place here in Edmonton, Alberta (Canada) that would repair it had a price that was ~50 shy of a brand new Nexus 5 (he has a 16gig).
Question:
Anyone know if there is a place in Edmonton or online where I can get a cheep screen (and replacement advice) or cheep screen replacement?
Also if you have had a similar experience how have you dealt with it?
Note: The screen protector in the pic was not attached during the crack it is a iPhone4 protector added after the crack so that the phone can be used without bleeding fingers.

I have some good news for you but at the same time it depends on your LUCK.
well, a member on XDA broke his Nexus 7 2013 screen when it was just launched (Less than 10 days).
He tried getting help and no one had spare parts available online, he sent it to ASUS directly paying the postage.
What happened was that his Nexus came back repaired and ASUS didnot even charge him anything apart from postage he paid.
He was a lucky man and I hope you and your friend are too!
Good Luck!

Your friend should check out the credit card he bought it with and see if it comes with a accidental warranty perk. Some CC have a 90 day period of "insurance" if purchased using the CC.

LG charges around 150 for the screen repair. Theres posts regarding this on the general forum. There's even a user tutorial for removing the screen yourself.

Moto G XT1033 Water Damanged - Need to change board

Hello XDA members,
Please help me I am in big trouble, Monday I was coming to home and rain suddenly starts and when I reached home I found my phone also become wet and not turning on. So i opened it's cover and let it dry (we can't remove its battery that is big disadvantage I found in water damage)
After 3 days I put it on charging and still it's not turning on or showing any indication. So at last I went to service center and told him so he said water damage not covered in warranty, you need to change whole circuit board and it cost 7000 INR
I am shocked because I know when my friend's LCD broken then they took 5000 INR for it's replacement and cost of phone today is 12000 INR so I make counter question to him Did all other parts are free? :silly: and he became silent..lolz
Now I need circuit board for XT1033 at affordable price but couldn't found anywhere, can anyone tell me how can I get one?
Before you change the board, since you have nothing to lose, take it out and rub some isopropyl 90% alcohol on it, let it dry and put it back in. Also try with other components, make sure you run delicately. The main reason is because when a phone falls in water some stuff (like salt) gets in it and corrodes, with alcohol you can remove it easily. I did that with a dead iPhone and it's now working again, you can find many tutorials on YouTube. You can save the phone for 5 dollars instead of buying a new 50 dollars board!

[Q] How to choose a touch screen digitizer replacement?

Hello!
I live in Japan but I bought an unlocked phone from Amazon, so it is very hard to find a place to do repairs and I was thinking about doing it myself.
It fell down and the glass cracked (picture attached). The LCD screen is ok, so I just need the digitizer and I want to know what to consider when buying one.
(I have no idea what I am doing )
Please send links to ebay items (or from anywhere that ships to Japan) that you think are ok.
Thanks!!

I know, but the only other option is to send my phone to the US to get repairs, and they won't even ship internationally, so i would need someone in the us to ship it back to me (which i don't have), and i don't know if i would have to pay taxes again, so it is a lot easier to just change the screen myself.
It is a bummer, but what else can I do? (Seriously, I am asking...)
I don't know specifically about the z3 but for most new phones the digitizer is glued to the lcd screen and is a real pain to remove - you have to heat it carefully using heat gun/blow dryer and it's a delicate process of removing the glass from the lcd. In Canada the repair costs around $200 from authorized Sony repair center. Have you called Sony mobile support? I'm sure they have a repair center in Japan that they could direct you to...

I did call them and there is no official Sony repair center in Japan.
It's because in Japan you can't just buy an unlocked phone, all phones are sold by the phone companies, there isn't a Sony store, so only the phone companies provide the repairs, but they won't take mine exactly because it is a unlocked version.
I bought mine unlocked on Amazon because I am going back to my country this year and I didn't want a locked phone.
I got an estimate of 5200 yen to replace the glass, which is around 50 usd, so I am really sad because the price difference between the spare part and the actual repair is very small.

If I may say, $50 is not bad at all considering Sony would charge you to replace the whole LCD unit ($150 - $200)... on the other hand I wish Sony would do what Google does and replace one broken screen free of charge (or so I hear).
Good luck.

Z1c D5503 - screen replacement -- lcd + digitizer -- best deal for Europe ?

Hello,
I need to change my faulty z1c (D5503) screen (lcd + digitizer) for the 2d time in a few months (broken screen in the 1st time, water damage + alcohol isoprop ... in the 2d time) and choose the right seller.
I checked on the market + this forum and here are my findings :
1) Witrigs (100 US dollars, so quite expensive) http://www.witrigs.com/oem-lcd-with-digitizer-for-sony-xperia-z1-compact
2) Stellatech (quite expensive - 100 EUR) : http://stellatech.com/sony-xperia-z...lete-display-lcd-touchscreen,a,en,816110.html
3) Aliexpress : (24 us dollars ...) : http://www.aliexpress.com/item/For-..._73_74_75,searchweb201527_3,searchweb201560_9
Could anyone tell me if the 3) can be as good as the first 2 ?

Can you share a pic of your Z1C with this screen pls?
i've got some through a dutch shop, costing me 77Eur, seems to me that it isn't exactly same as original sony as colors were quite different (too much saturated/red).
now it's only WITH a frame, not sure if that's easier to deal with for repair:
http://telecom2day.com/sony/sony-xp...ay-lcd-unit-met-frame-sony-xperia-z1-compact/
ps, aliepress is not fast in delivering stuff, so if you want it before the end of the year, better look somewhere else
I bought this one and mounted it myself, and i have'nt noticed any difference in quality from the original display. Just make sure to watch a video tutorial on how to change it.
Adhesive tape and correct tools was not included, but ordered from china.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/221822457294?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2648&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
Some how, I got unlucky and touch input broke down on me. Tried a lot,but phone is written off now. Went to nexus 5x and happy.
I bought a display from ebay for 30$, and it is working great. Not original though, but have'nt noticed any difference at all. Been using it for 3 months without a single problem.
It was this one: http://m.ebay.com/itm/UK-Touch-Disp...i-Compact-M51w-D5503-/221822457294?nav=SEARCH
To people who ordered from ebay: Which glue did you buy?
And what does it mean "no frame" ? Do you need to salvage this 'frame' from your broken screen?
I just broke my screen. Dropped it from 20cm at just the right angle I guess I've been doing some research, looks like you can't replace only the digitizer without special tools?
I've got mine from Ebay, it came with glue also. It has the same colors like the original one and it's working flawless for 5 months now.
Here is the link for the display I've bought.
Hello,
let me throw another hat in the ring: I bought my screen assembly from parts4repair, they sell them starting at 32 €. I bought the one for 42 €, as it is supposed to be the original replacement part. I did not realize any different colors. Delivery took about 6 weeks and packaging was really good (stable, well protected).
In another thread I already posted about this little project, here it is again:
I did completely disassemble my Z1compact recently and replaced back housing and the screen, using adhesive stickers (they were even said to be the original, real deal. I cleaned the contact areas with cleaning alcohol prior to reassembling the phone, so everything was just as intended). Everything worked fine, looked just as new - but after only 2 days, the adhesive did already start to loosen again in different areas!
I told a friend of mine about the problem (he fixes mobile phones the whole day long, as a profession), and he answered that they never use the stickers, but a special kind of silicone! The important part is, that it is a silicon which hardens without releasing acid (normally acetic acid is fumed out), so the electronic circuits do not become damaged. I bought one like this: Silicon Adhesive and everything worked fine It's been two months now and there are no problems, it's even water proof again.
Some comments: The silicone needs at least 24h to harden, I placed my phone under 4 heavy books in order to apply steady pressure during that time. That may have been a little bit too heavy, however, because the screen is a little bit lower than before and I can see small, somewhat "lighter" areas right where the contacts of the screen are, just the kind like pressing your finger on a lcd display too much. So better use only 2 books during hardening the silicone
Happy tinkering!
I got the same problem with my phone - I broke digitizer on my weekend trip... I don't know guys if it's an option for you, but in Poland you can replace screen much cheaper:
https://www.w-support.pl/klienci-indywidualni/koszt-naprawy.html (sorry, it's in polish... w-support is official Sony service - whole screen replacement costs 399 PLN (less than 100€)

I bought LCD with digitizer, tools and glue for about 200PLN (less than 50€) and the seller claims it's an original one... Of course there may be some problems with foreign shipment but I think it shall work in EU for most of the sellers.
I let you know in a few day - I am waiting for delivery right now...

Mine is working flawless
I just bought a 30E sceen from ebay and it pretty bad because of the gamma levels...tried to adjust with white balance and it got a bit better..but still nowhere near as good as the original. For a 30euro screen i think i'll live with it..

Yeah, that's great!
I made a post HERE about a water damaged screen, long story short after buying two cheap screens online and sending them both back for a refund because I wasn't happy with either of them I bit the bullet and sent my phone to Sony for a genuine OEM replacement to be fitted. Neither of the cheap screens came with the ASF and didn't have the foam that was attached to the back of my original.

Neither of the cheap screens came with the ASF and didn't have the foam that was attached to the back of my original.

you must really love your z1c to pay that money, hope you enjoy it!
so it s a big difference sony OEM screen vs the cheap ones?
i replaced mine with cheap one(two times) and both times found the colours <<washed>> and low brightness too in comparison with OEM.

A few People have said to me just buy a new one, but I do love it and want to keep it to use as my spare when I finally do, I want another Compact but the last few just haven't done it for me. It's killed me using my old Xperia Ray this last week and still have another week and a half to go. Going to flash GB to it this weekend and see if that makes it more bearable.

The first screen had lifted a little so that made me question the adhesive too, from reading online I then thought it was because I hadn't cleaned the frame properly, so made sure I had before laying the second screen, but that eventually started to lift too. I found the same as you in regards to the screen, the colours just weren't right and had to use full brightness which then obviously chews through the battery. I even reflashed my phone to see if that made a difference, as we know there are two different panels used I thought maybe when the phone gets reflashed it may configure it for the display that's attached but it didn't.
If the X Compact had a better spec I would have bought it and a cheap screen for the Z1C as that would be going in the wardrobe along with the Arc S and Ray hopefully never to be seen again for another 50 years, but as it's going to be my daily for a little while longer I just want it perfect.
UPDATE:
Just heard back from Sony today and not good news. First of all they emailed me to say a quote was available to view in my support which basically said it was uneconomical to repair and offered an equivalent phone for a cost of £250+, baffled by their quote and comments I then got straight on the phone as all my Z1C needs to function is a screen , the operator told me to get the phone back to a guaranteed status the technician had wanted to replace more parts. To a degree I can see where they are coming from but having already had two screens on with no issues other than the poor quality of them it's quite annoying.
So as my hand has been forced a screenless Z1C will be going on ebay as soon as I get it back, and I'll be ordering a Z5C tonight.
