new galaxy s6 problems - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

today i bought a new galaxy s6 sealed from an electronics shop......the first problem i got was that when i turned it at language detect it was that it was running really slow and i had to double tap on everything for " ok" even at keyboard......i did a factory reset before i could even select the language :| ....ok so after that it worked fine but it still has problems with overheating by doing nothing and with batery life( it charged fast and the life goes down same as fast. had the same problem on a 2y old galaxy s4 and the lolipop soft solved it...).i got the phone few hours ago and it already has so many problems? any1 got any idea?

Return it to seller for warranty replacement. Initial experience with S6 should be fast and fluid. You may have a defective unit.

i got a new one...so i got the phone for 2 days now and the ram is always 85% usage with everything closed( the number of ram usage at datails should even be 500mb). the phone is also over heating ....i saw they will fix it on 5.1 but im not sure what to think anymore...are s6 and s6 edge rly this bad or am i being unlucky?

I have the ram issue and the warm phone. Issue . But not the slow problem mine runs quickly but battery only last like 6 hours and barley charges unless I use the ome adaptive charger. ( can't use that in m van. )

Ok can some please help me..i got confused....the first comment i posted was about the old phone..they gave me another...now this one has over 80% ram usage with everything closed..if i clear the ram it goes to 65-70% but in less than 5 sec its back to over 80. Now the thing i got confused about is that i read online they will solve this in 5.1.1...my current version is 5.0.2 and i cant update it....should i send the 2nd phone to warancy? I also saw that by rooting the phone and deleteing some stuff with file explorer would solve this..is it worth? What should i do? Thanx

Don't worry about that. RAM useage should be 85% full in android. With 5.1.1 large games won't reload in memory for no reason, but ram will still be 85% full if it's working properly.

Getting hot

i set up my device with everything , set up application make installations , played with wifi and installed games tried games with no interuption,
and i noticed as i was playing a game after an hour or so that the device was getting crazy hot ...
i removed backplate and touched the metal where the sim card was in ... even hotter !!!
is it the same for you ? does it really get that hot ???
(i noticed that and i brought the phone back, couse when it was hot i get foce close and sound was gone, had to wait to cool down or restart the phone to get sound back. so i hope my second phone will arrive today)
Mine gets really hot at times too, I noticed it the other day when chatting on Facebook.
Someone else mentioned that it was due to the app constantly trying to update itself, but I've now installed a temperature app so I can get some details and actually ask HTC direct about it, although it's looking like this phone will have to go back at some point...
-Just so I can keep a record, it's been idling all morning bar an email or two and it's at 26.5 degrees at the moment. Nice and cool.
you will bring the phone back to get a new one too??
I haven't sent it back yet, but then that's because it's only happened once and I want to try to get some details to present to HTC so I can get their word on it.
i askted htc on it ...
they just say .... we understand that youre disappointed ... try these solutions to get rid of the problems you have. 1. make a soft reset 2. meke a hardreset !!
if this doesnt help send the phone back to us to get a new one
thats it
Don't worry about it, it's exactly the same for the Galaxy SII. These dual core CPUs are designed to run hot, they have to be with the limited space available and almost nothing in the way of heat dissipation. The Galaxy SII shuts itself off as a safety measure if it thinks it will be damaged by the heat (never happened to me though) and I'm sure the Sensation has a similar safety mechanism.

Overheating and lags

Hi everybody,
I have bought my s6 2 days before and i have some serious issues on my device.. I dont know it's normal or not but i'm writing it here
1) Phone is very hot whenever i touch the device and its showing 39°-40° celsius but i feels it like above 45 c since my most other devices didnt become this hot.
2) very serious lag when transferring files through wifi direct and it restarted itself thrice in two days and 1 sleep of death
3) Heart rate sensor is always flashing when something is put behind it.
4) Device is slowing down after multitasking 10 -15 apps and having launcher redraws (feels like i'm using a device with 1 gb ram)
4) Heating when connected to fast charging.
5) Only getting less than 3 hrs sot.
Please share if someone has same issues.

I'm having the same issue. My phone is laggy after 2mins from a fresh restart. Its also reached a temperature of 114 °F (45.5 °C) using an infrared digital thermometer OFF the charger. It has self rebooted a few times and my brother's S6 edge factory reset itself yesterday. His mother's had battery issues and had to be replaced and his girlfriend's S6 is also laggy.
I'm extremely frustrated with this device.

Update Your Firmware:
G920IDVU1AOE3 Best to root with PingPong no tripping Knox
G920IDVU1BOE3 Latest. no PingPong root, CF Auto root tripping Knox
Your problems will be solved, first firmware for g920i is really laggy. i have installed G920IDVU1AOE3 and i have no problems with my GS6.
It must be a 64bit thing because both the g4 and s6 lag from time to time.
Sent from my SM-G920T
I just got the phone 2week back. The s6 ui is supersmooth, offcourse at the cost of multitasking (I open more than 3 apps and it restarts the app again)
But 2 days before I installed asphault 8. Was very impressed with the graphics. But after just 2 minutes of playing I notice a lot of heat near the power button area, play for around 10 minuntes and it gets very hot and starts lagging.
I have played several other games and have the same result.
I am suprised not many has reported this. I guess lot of fanboy dont want to report this.
I should have gone for the htc m9

[Q] Edge N915-FY Overheating...

So I've had my Note Edge for a while now, I've noticed lately that it gets pretty damn hot. When I'm browsing, when I'm going through emails, no games and such. cpu-z shows 65 degrees Celsius (not battery temperature, top first sensor), anyway I don't think it's normal, the Phone is uncomfortable to hold.
Now, I haven't been so nice to my phone. I have flashed a bunch of firmwares / ROMs KitKat Lollipops, you name it. I 've done a full wipe before every flash, but could it be I f'd up my phone through flashing?
Best case scenario it's a Lollipop issue that I'm going to fix today by flashing Mickey's Kitkat Rom. If it doesn't work it's back to Sammy for my Edge. Any help or experience would be much appreciated..
I'm no newbie, Factory resets, rogue apps and stuff, tried everything...
thanx in advance...

Same overheating issue.
And Battery drain.
And lollipop Camera's quality is a little bit badly than kitkat.
I also tried every way but not fix.
So I reverted to kitkat. It is perfect.
Have the note edge for 1 week and been having to troubleshoot things (fully stock) ever since.
I've had it where mine turns incredibly hot as well even doing mundane things (whatsapp messenger, looking at an email)
I removed my micro-SD card, a 64GB Sandisk, and noted that the random heating up/full CPU usage stopped.
Inserted the card, formatted it and it was over.
This used to happen on 4.4 where if you had corrupt files on the microSD a process would keep on trying to scan it; I would've imagined that gotten fixed by now. But apparently it's not.
So yeah, that helped for me.
The note edge DOES get hot when you're quick-charging it with the supplied charger. But that's normal.

[HELP!] RECENT minor flickering on the S6

Im really worried about that issue.. Im seriously considering getting a new device as a result.
After the last android ota update (August's I think - not sure cuz I didnt update for some time after it notified me)
My screen started to do these 3-4 flicks whenever Im going somewhere and then returning to the home screen..
(Going in whatsapp then returning.. or EVEN sliding the notification bar down then closing it and it flicks again for 2 seconds)
**The phone is in perfect condition no drops no water damage.
UNROOTED ALL OFFICIAL , auto brightness on .
Soft restart applied nothing changed.
Ive tried a hard reset aswell.. with cache wipe.. still nothing. Went into safe mode STILL FLICKS .
But if there was absolutely NO HW damage how come nothing helps (concerning software)..
What can u suggest me to try next ? Im really desperate here.. :crying:
If the problem was the update, there are 2 things you can do
1- (Recommended) Flash the rom again, using Odin flash the most recent update
2- Downgrade, also using Odin flash the old firmware (hard reset should be necessary)
yeah I thought about it but that requires a rooted device doesnt it? and I dont want to void warranty for now..

Just googled in latest update for s6 and found this, so many people complaining about so freaking many problems post latest firmware update, SAMSUNG WHAT ARE U DOING? Im getting ready to drop galaxy for good (had s , s3 & s5 before - never have the issues came CLOSE to what Im experiencing right now).
Im seriously considering selling/ returning the phone.. unless they intend on releasing a fix sometime soon..

Wondering is it a complete on of flicker or just a britness flicker. Sorry if u stated it.
Ive seen a bunch do a briteness flicker. Ive also seen this on lgs a lot to g3 and g4 both done it. Seems to be a common issue amongst a few differ manifacs.
Never really saw any bad come from it other than annoyances

yeah exactly, its like a brightness flicker, which is actually 2-3 flicks which last like less than a second but it annoys me and even though Im not completely sure it does any damage to the phone itself, it annoys me very much, I dont think I'll be able to get used to that.
I just cant help the feeling that my brand new shinny with absolute no physical damage whatsoever (as stated above) already gives me trouble, its like 8 months old, really disappointing turn of events after a mere firmware update. (talking android 6.0.1 firmware update)
http://www.galaxys6edgeupdate.com/g...roid-601-marshmallow-official-stock-firmware/
July firmware is the one Im talking about - G920FXXU4DPGV (or G920FXXU4DPG2 - not sure exactly but its the same firmware just different names)
Im not gonna go LG ever, seen enough people with so many problems (G3&4) so no.
what are my options concerning the S6 ?

Ive had g2 g3 and g4. In my opinion my g2 was rock solid stable. Best phone ever. I loved my g3 to death. No issuse. I had britnes flicker when at low brite. G4 broke 2 screens and the light sensor went bad. Ditched it good practicly gve it away traded 3 old phones and 30 bucks for it. I got this gs6 rite. 20 bucks had some water damge cleand a flex cable and im good now for 3 months. Other than bad battery life. i love it.
Now u might try like shutting off auto brite mine was more noticeable at low level in a drk room. G3 ended up being a bug in the firmware i ended up downgrading and solved it.
Its not constant flickering like ure describing, its a less than 1sec flicking with each return to homescreen & after that 1sec it stops completely, maybe I'm just too picky u know, I just checked my mom's S5 with latest firmware of 6.0.1 aswell, it also flicks kinda like my S6 (more or less the same thing) other than that 1sec flicker I didnt come across any other issue.. (ofc battery life's not amazing but every s6 user gets and tries to cope with it) I really feel like I did a mistake getting the S6 instead of waiting and getting the S7 with the 3000mah (and overall users all over stating that the battery is astonishing compared to the S6) .. but what can I do if I have this phone for almost a year now... and about the ficker guess I'll just have to wait for Android Nougat to roll out as an OTA update on my S6..

android phones seem to lag right after warranty expires. 3 phones did it already

so my galaxy s7 phone did it recently
exactly after one year warranty just expired the phone became painfully slow
it was a brand new phone sent from samsung as a replacement for my broken phone replaced under warranty
had zero problems for a whole year and i mean zero like no issues with speed or freezing at all
never dropped or dipped in the water to test the water resistance
always in a case since day one. no crazy apps. actually same exact apps that i have on all my phones.
no new apps were installed before slowdown
i already deleted some apps. cleaned up app cache individually and reset cache from boot screen
tested in safe mode and still slow
im not sure if the update was installed recently or not but the slowdown happened about 2 months ago. was there a tmobile update at that time?
im not really sure.
but this is the third phone that did this.
galaxy s5 that i also bought brand new for a year was well maintained and had no problems
that phone actually started lagging really bad and shutting down multiple times a week or restarting....
before that galaxy s3 did same thing. after exactly a year it became ridiculously slow for absolutely no reason
i install all the apps i use right out of the box. change all the settings to what i want and dont really make any changes after and it usually very stable for about a year
is there an app that i can use to troubleshoot?
or an app that will show me what component is slowing down the system in real time?
obviously something is slowing down the OS, theres gotta be an app that can trace the faulty app or file or component
i cant be the only one who noticed that
is there really no way to pinpoint what is slowing down the phone?
why do i have to reset everything every time it gets slow
isnt there an app that can diagnose what is loading up the system?
this phone is painfully slow suddenly with no apparent reason
Have you been able to view the CPU activity and the RAM allocation?
I am not sure how to do this, but if possible, it might reveal what is happening.
I would try disabling some of the applications one by one. First suspects would be:
1. Facebook
2. Google Play Store.
3. Youtube.
Disable one, then try the phone. If still the same, disable second and try etc.
Jim.
How is your device storage. Once you use more then 50% device storage android starts to lag. It's an issue with the OS.
device storage has always been about the same since brand new. which is about 80% on average.
doesnt safe mode disable all non stock apps? i tried safe mode with same result
windows has a resource monitor that helps alot but i dont know if android has any monitoring app that could help troubleshoot this
Samsung devices are known for getting laggy over time, try a different phone next time, in the meantime, do a factory reset and start fresh.

This is very suspect to me, but I am only a beginner.
Given zelendel's post about (re 50%), I would investigate further. Did you note his credentials?
What does all that data consist of?
What is the total storage capacity of the phone?
Perhaps some of that storage capacity is used as "swap" memory? Just guessing...........I am extrapolating Linux terminology here.
about 10-15 gigs of that is music/videos for airplane or when i have no internet. its been there since i got the phone
other things come and go like downloads documents videos images
im surprised theres no apps to troubleshoot the phone lagging when theres so many people having that problem and the best solution is to just reset the phone. which should be the last resort
if resetting the phone works most of the time then there should be an app that could look for conflicts as it runs in the background.

Depending on the amount of storage in your device that could be a lot.
Resetting the device wipes things. You really can't find an issue if the only issue is storage space. So here is a test. Remove stuff from your device. Give yourself a clean start and then go from there. Adding stuff slowly until it slows down.
I have had dozens of devices and the only time they ever got slow was due to getting low on phone storage.
This even encludes a 5 year old Samsung that I have that is as fast as the day I got it. Mind you there is nothing on it but some games for a kid. I even disabled all of Samsungs crap they install that slows a device down.
Could also be stuff acting up in the background
Run a log cat and see if anything is hanging.
cool thanks ill try that
got my internal memory to under 50%
reset cache again
deleted few apps and moved alot of them to SD card and cleared cache for those too
heres exactly whats happening
theres a delay for every action
2 wifi seems to drop in and out now since it got slow
3 facebook and browser wouldnt load anything on wifi
but as soon as i switch to data it works
i have to restart the phone alot now and close all apps multiple times a day to get them to work
also running safe mode had no effect on speed
i dont know when the last update was from tmobile but it might have been due to crappy update im not sure at this point
i got the phone last end of summer and it worked flawlessly every single day up until last 2 months exactly when warranty expired
how does samsung find faulty hardware when i send it in for service?
do they use an app?
ok this is getting ridiculous.
the phone wen to complete ****
facebook doesnt load posts unless i restert it by closing the app
phone just feels very slow overall.
constantly lags hangs. and in general just completely crappy performance slowly degrading.
i dont know why suddenly it started happening just like my last 3 phones
after about a year theres always a sudden decrease in performance and things start bugging and lagging etc
so theres no way to figure out why its slow?
isnt there some hardware tests or system scan or something that can help point to the problem?
Sorry to read that you are still having this problem Fuzzysig.
Did you try any of the suggestions in my post #4 and/or in Zelendel's post #10?
If so, which ones did you try and what resulted from those changes?

Hi, I was a Samsung user too and faced the same problem.
I went through various threads which gave me multiple solutions: rooting, removing bloatware, cpu monitoring and many more.
None of that worked. The phone was so slow that it was not usable.
Ultimately I had to throw it and buy another phone.
Then I noticed this is not just me, all Samsung users face the same problem even the flagship users.
I swear I'll never buy a Samsung phone and never let anyone buy one.
