[Q] What Variant is my S6? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
My phone is a SM-G920F w/ 5.0.2 installed. The Baseband is G920FXXU1AOCZ build number LRX22G.G920FXXU1AOCZ . The only reason I'm asking is because I've seen others get an OTA for 5.1.1 but I haven't yet. I was wondering if I could Odin the phone to a UK variant?
The seller from the shop said it was a phone from Isreal flashed with a Region Free Firmware? but when I check the knox it was still intact. Is there any way to find out more information about the phone?
Thank you!

I have the exact same question. I have the G920F international unlocked model as well, using it on AT&T here in the USA. Phone's working great, but no update to 5.1, despite reading reports that Samsung has pushed 5.1 to the international variants. Is it because we're using the phone in the USA? Will we even get the OTA update, or will we have to update manually using ODIN?

Here you go UK ROM 5.1.1 BTU ready for you to flash:

I didn't ask the original question, so my apologies. But I was wondering if you had any advice on how I should proceed to update my device? I have the G920F that I bought unlocked off of Ebay and using it on AT&T here in the USA. It's working fine, but it says there are no updates. I don't even know if it'll even get an OTA pushed to my device since I am not in the originating region?
Should I just wait, or is it safe to go ahead and flash one of these 5.1 roms with ODIN that are for the G920F? If so, which one should I install? I think the first one available for the G920F was the France one. But now there are others. Does it matter which one I install? Or would I have to wait until a North American rom is available?
Thanks!
For reference, my build is G920FXXU1AOCV and my CSC is G920FOJV1AOBL. Not sure what those mean or how it applies to my situation?

Ita still best to stick to your working 5.0.2 ROM and wait for official 5.1.1 OTA update which should come soon. Flashing exposes you to risks like bricking your S6, tripping Knox and voiding your warranty. If can't resist the itch then flash away.

Thanks for response, I assume it's the same risks as me? I also wanted to get rid of the Israel edition and make it UK, will I hit any risks?

Risks are still the same. You can also consider flashing this Israel 5.1.1 stock ROM below:

Thank you again for your replies very helpful. Phones seem to be getting more complicated, but I'll root and install custom rom when warranty is up

Update for SM-P905 (baseband no: P905XXUANA7 build no: P905XXUANC3) ?

Hi guys,
Am I mistaken or is this the last samsung note pro in the known universe to receive an update to lollipop? I understand it's been a long wait for all note pro users. Does anyone here have an idea when this particular model SM-P905 (baseband no: P905XXUANA7 build no: P905XXUANC3) will receive an update?

Unless I've missed something, the firmware for my specific model isn't available from sammobile, so I can't use odin to update.

I guess you don't have to flash a specific firmware since you have the international 905 model !!
Mine was from italy and i flashed UAE firmware without problems !!

Oh. I feel so newb (And I'm a tech guy...awkward....lol). Mine is running stock kitkat (4.4.2). I rooted it a while back, but so far, have not flashed it with any rom. Correct me if I'm wrong - international version means that all the LTE/radio bands are unlocked? I can't flash it with Deodex.Root.Xposed, as I'm not running stock lollipop. Which rom did u flash yours with?
Chris
You should be able to use Odin to flash any of the released 905 version lollipop updates from sammonbile. You will lose your root however.

Thanks for the link, however, I live in Australia, so according to sammobile, there's no lollipop firmware for this country:

Since your going to flash it yourself just choose any region (pick one thats on 5.1.1) and flash that. Then just change the language and time zone settings during set up and you should be good to go. Many US customers with the 905 used this method when other countries were getting the original 5.0.1 update before them. Worked fine.

Thanks for the info. Cool. I'll keep an eye out for 5.1.1. If I'm not mistaken, most are 5.0.2 at the moment, except AT&T.

New G930F, wish to downgrade FW

Hi, I'm in the US and I received my new S7 G930F International today with baseband G930FXXU1DQB1, Android 7.0 and wish to downgrade to Marshmallow 6.01, where can I find the proper FW for this?
From what I've been able to find so far I have this,
XX = COUNTRY CODE (Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom)

Hi mate
Use an app like PhoneInfo to find out what is your active CSC , this will tell you what country is the firmware from
You can flash the firmware of any country you want , just make sure that its CSC has the country specific features you need ( like Wif calling or VoLTE)

Hi mate
You have and unbranded Panamanian firmware
My question would be is it working good in the USA , are you missing any carrier option like wifi calling or VoLTE?
If not you can use any of the 6.0.1 from here (TPA)
http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?r=TPA&v=&q=g930f&exact=1
Here you use Odin and i would use AP, BL , CP and CSC ....not quite sure if you could use home_csc to save your data, using CSC will factory reset your phone....i would use that option
This option here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvq2-XRisDI
Downgrade your phone and save your data but is not a 100% downgrade as it does not flash the bootloader and the modem.......
Why you want to downgrade anyhow?

Hi @MAX 404, thanks for that link, it's a genuine PITA sifting thru all of the firmware over there. I'm with Consumer Cellular (AT&T) and the reason for the downgrade (6.01), I want to just root (CF-Auto-Root) without a custom recovery atm.
Also, things seem to be running fine with this firmware, data etc. though I haven't used it much. I don't use WiFi calling so have no real need for that. Curious, though what would be a better or closer firmware other than Panama as I have to admit I'm a bit overwhelmed with the sheer number of firmware choices.

Yes, In the USA they do not have the G930F ( exynos chipset) they comercialice the snapdragon version.....with a lock bootloader
Myself i think the one you got is better
That is why you do not have a G930F USA firmware

Quick question, just so I'm square on this, I read somewhere but forgot where, how these files are handled, in their respective slots, CSC, CP, BL, AP but what is done if at all of the "HOME" file?
Edit: I found that it should be ignored and just use the regular CSC file, I do opt for a full wipe anyhow.

Hi
That is right , you should use home_csc only if is the same one that is in your phone and you want to keep the user date , with CSC you will wipe the phone and have a clean install...better that way

G955FXXU1AQH3 unlocked, bloatware grabage problem.

Hey fella's, and ladies. I just got my G955F, bought inside of the US off of the same person I usually go through. Turns out It's a UK model that came with Vodafone bloatware and shows 4G instead of LTE (even though it IS LTE). Is there a US variant? And if so can I flash the phone with any G955F variant software using odin? So I guess I'm asking, what is the best, and purest firmware if I am in the US. I have T-Mobile and I'm in Cali. Thanks ahead. (Sorry, but I posted this in the S8 section originally, like a dumb-dumb)
Also, could I flash with G955U unlocked firmware?
http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?exact=1&q=SM-G955F
Here you can download the US ROM and use Odin to flash - these are official ROM's so Knox will not be tripped
NO
You CANNOT flash a G955U rom to a G955F device
It will definately soft brick or even hard brick your device
You can flash this rom ( https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8/SM-G955F/EUR/download/G955FXXU1AQH3/184528/ )
No bloatware, multilang and fast updates.

DON'T GIVE WRONG INFORMATION!!!
If you don't know what you talking about, then say nothing!
You CAN'T flash G955U FW to a G955F
Do you know the difference between the G955U & G955F?
If you did, than you would have known the answer!!!

Got it. Couldn't find any US firmware on that page. Part of my question about the US firmware, or multilang firmware comes from the fact that Walmart sells G955F's. I would imagine whatever firmware is on there would be what I would want. Just don't know what that is.
-Thanks for all the replies so far. If I can't figure out what firmware comes on the US Walmart G955F phone, I suppose I will go with the variant listed above.
-Also, will VoLTE work on the multilang rom? Or is there a rom that works with T-Mobile and VoLTE? And if anyone is wondering, I wanted to Exynos variant, that's why I didn't buy G955U.

I should state that I'm up in Canada, so we're using a different set of regional codes. Nevertheless the latest avialable build I see is: G965WOYV1ARC1 (I have no idea what security level this is). My carrier is still on a February security patch level with build number: G965WVLU1ARBG.

I would be very careful in attempting to load another regions firmware on your Canadian variant. There have be some users who have reported ending up with a bricked device attempting this sort of update. While you can find stock Odin files for our devices, it's still on the v1 bootloader. Not worth the pain...

Let me know if you successfully flash on your device then I'll do it as I'm from Bell mobility
I got the downloads to go through. Will report once flashing is complete. Not sure which firmware will be on the phone when it arrives (att variant) but I'm gonna be flashing u1 then newest rc6 TMobile firmware. Hoping to have full features working as if originally a TMobile variant.
On a side note (mods please excuse) but Samsung. Com has the att variant on sale $639 ($200 off) and since I'm trading in my old s7 I'm getting an additional $200 off so $439 ($466 after tax) for a brand new s9+! Once i flash the TMobile firmware I'll be happy and for $400 off!
Anyone know if i need to sim unlock before flashing this? I've read about having to flash the unlocked rom before flashing the T-Mobile Rom and that's my other question. Can i just flash this tmobile firmware to the phone fresh out of the box or do i need to go to unlocked first (doesn't seem right) and put my TMobile sim in and be good?
My thoughts were that i could just sim unlock thorough a 3rd party then Odin the TMobile firmware and be done. Thanks

My thoughts were that i could just sim unlock thorough a 3rd party then Odin the TMobile firmware and be done. Thanks

You have to unlock your device first, before flashing any other firmware besides your carrier firmware. Flashing unlock firmware, will not unlock your device.

SIM unlock has nothing to do with firmware/rom flashing. You can flash to any U/U1 firmware you want and your device will still be in the same carrier lock/unlock state it was before.
T-Mobile does do things a little differently, however. Flashing a different firmware won't SIM unlock your phone, but I do believe you need to be on a legitimate T-Mobile firmware to unlock the device via their built in unlocking app.
Awesome thanks guys. Will just get a 3rd party unlock service then flash.
If you got it from [email protected] they will unlock it free of charge. And if you didn't I would still try with them first before paying
Will use it to update my converted s9 plus from att to tmobile firmware.
I tried to search for updates in the menu but it says phone is already up to date. But version is RBG.
Latest one is ARC6

Did either of you do it yet? I'm in the same boat, just got my AT&T that I want to use on T-Mobile. I'm debating if I should flash unlocked or T-Mobile, and now the option of this new bootloader?

Im just waiting for Rogers in Canada to push out their latest update, which they say is now available, and its not. I want to see if they have updated from U1 to U2 before taking the plunge with this firmware.
What's the benefit to having T-Mobile f/w over unlocked? Or what's better about having unlocked? I'll be using it only on T-Mobile.

As a fellow U1 owner, I advise to be careful when flashing stuff on here. While we CAN use G950U-targeted ROMs, We have the unbranded XAA ROM, and most of the ROMs posted here are carrier branded. It doesn't really harm the phone, but adds bloatware. PartCyborgRom added a bunch of AT&T preloaded apps, so I went back to stock. That in itself is a bit tricky as the phone wanted to OTA AT&T version of the ROM then. Had to find an XAA stock tar and flash CSC as well (even tho I don't think I flashed CSC during my PartCyborgRom install). On the plus side I managed to do all this without tripping Knox at least.
G950U1 OTA current seems to be G950U1UES3CRE2 and this is with the May 2018 update. So this could be June update, but maybe not. Even with AOSP sometimes Android doesn't release the security updates for a month until the middle of the month, so to believe that Samsung already ..modified.. the update for their own ROM is a little suspicious. But whatever.
To answer your question, yes, it should work. But, I wouldn't do it.
