Nvidia Shield TV 2 - Shield Q&A

I've read that Nvidia have decided to leave the mobile and tablet devices. Does this mean no Shield TV 2?

I don't think so. If they have chance to make money, they make money. That's how it works.

[Q] Windows 10 Mobile on Nvidia Shield Tablet

Hello. Tell me please, Windows 10 Mobile will be support on Nvidia Shield Tablet or not? I want to see Windows 10 Mobile in Nvidia Shield Tablet.

Not going to happen. It does not benefit Nvidia or Microsoft at all. It may be possible but I doubt anyone will do it.

Are you serious? I promise you do not want to see Windows 10 Mobile on the Tablet Shield. It has no benefits at all over Android. Even Microsoft's services like Office and OneDrive is way better on Android.
I think he talk about that ?

i would not mind trying windows on my Shield actually
but it would have to have a decent amount of native apps as well, would like to compare the speed of apps under windows and android, would not be surprised if windows would outperform android, assuming native windows apps are written in C#/C/C++

Nvidia shield console vs tablet

I need a little clarification. The Nvidia console is running the same type of android as the tablet but has integration with Android TV. So outside of a little bit of a spec boost why can't android TV be done on the Nvidia shield tablet using Console mode hooked up to a TV via HDMI? I'm really not seeing the difference in the two products other than some specs and hardware.

I just tried it then with my Xperia Z2 Tablet, I downloaded the apk from: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/leanback-launcher/. Then pressed home and selected it as my launcher. I then plugged my Xbox 360 controller into my OTG Cable, then into the Tablet. I was able to launch Leo's fortune without a hiccup. Try for yourself.
So technically I could do this with a MHL to HDMI adaptor, but im still going to be getting the Nvidia Shield because I want something permanent in my loungeroom

Did you have to root to do this? Also do you only need the launcher apk or any other files? Not sure if all the services would run the same.
My original point is I have the shield tablet not sure why it can't do exactly the same thing as the console.

I do have root but sideloading an APK doesnt require root. Try it yourself.
If you want that full Android TV experience though, I'd go with the Shield TV
I guess I don't k ow why the tablet can't do what the console does. They are so similar.

Maybe because they're two separate devices that are different things. While I guess I can see what you mean about them being similar, they're different form factors, meant fit different purposes. If you must, install adb drivers and sideload the launcher, or just transfer the apk and install. Tbh though, you're not missing out. True story - it's just a phone without its own screen with a limited launcher. The search function is kind of cool , but nothing amazing. You can say show me movies that won an Oscar in 2012 , or show me movies with Kevin Hart, and it will show you movies, but mostly not what your looking for. I only bought it because ive been streaming games via moonlight on my note 4, and I thought it would be nice to stream them to my tv.

Actually that is what I would like. Contextual search. Appletv is a letdown. Chrome cast has been good but I rather have the interface and the contextual search. I like how androidtv is laid out and interacts with Google now. With that said I already us the tablet so I not going to get the console, which brings me to the reason I am questioning why I can't recreate the same experience. I would like there is more than just the launcher.

Little bit of a spec boost? At least twice as powerful, and 4K at 60FPS to boot.
It also uses the android TV platform which even though it is based on 5.1.1 it is different then the tablet os.
Also the hardware is different.

Beside the spec boost what I want to to flash the android TV platform on my tablet but haven't seen a thread that does this. The lea back launcher is unresponsive when I use it (cannot tap anything on the screen).

K1 supports [email protected] through HDMI, does the old shield tablet as well?

Hi
Just wondering if i can get use out of my old tablet in console mode, ive seen that the new K1 tablet supports this refresh rate at 4K in console mode.
If it has identical hardware, does that mean [email protected] will be possible on our older shield tablets?
thanks =)
Absolutely, they even advertised it when it was launching

Is this Tablet still worth buying ?

Ok,, so I'm looking for a tablet and you can now buy this K1 device for £149.
So, I was wondering if this is the one I should go for or, can you please recommend a better one.
I want it for the normal stuff, Netflx, youtube and obviously gaming.
Thanks in advance.
IMO, The Shield Tablet is second to none. Its a true powerhouse and if you want to game, none do it better. I own 4 Shield Tablets. 2 I purchased at $299 and recently 2 more of the K1 versions at $199.
I would happily pay $299 for these so at $199, its a no-brainer.
The only real question is are you satisfied with an 8 inch screen? Some folks want to carry a TV around with them.
Double posted.

Thank you...just got home with it and I'm delighted. Only played with for 10 minutes. Turned it on for the first time and I got the MM update straight away which I'm really happy with. This thing is as smooth to use as my partners iPad air which I wasn't expecting.*
Can I ask you one last thing? I just signed up to the 3 months free game streaming service, do I need a controller to play them games or can you just use the tablet ?
Thanks again.

Best tablet
I have never been so impressed with a device. The thing that really got me is the geo force streaming unbelievable! I would tell anyone, and am telling everyone, that they can't go wrong with the shield. What a device!

[Completed] Shield OS in Pixel C?

Is it possible to install the shield os onto the pixel c tablet. Im talking about about either the Shield TV OS or Shield Tablet OS. I used to have a shield TV and bought some games on it and i want to be able to play them again and the Pixel C has the same processor as the shield TV

Greetings and welcome to assist. Installing the shield OS on the pixel tablet will probably brick your device. If they have the same processor then it should be possible to port it but this still requires a lot of work and modifications

Then why isn't anyone working on it? It would be like having a mobile version of the shield TV.

People do this for a hobby and choose to share things on xda. Xda isn't a place to come and request things, less popular devices tend to attract less developer support plus there may be issues like locked bootloaders or no custom recovery.
If you want to try yourself there are some excellent guides in xda university
