K1 supports [email protected] through HDMI, does the old shield tablet as well? - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Just wondering if i can get use out of my old tablet in console mode, ive seen that the new K1 tablet supports this refresh rate at 4K in console mode.
If it has identical hardware, does that mean [email protected] will be possible on our older shield tablets?
thanks =)

Absolutely, they even advertised it when it was launching

Miracast Query (WiDi adapter)

Hello,
I'm not too sure where to place this thread. However, here goes.
I'm looking for an adapter for my TV that supports Miracast + intel Wi-Di as my laptop supports it inherently.
Which of these three models support them?
Netgear PT1000 or PTVU1000 or PTV3000? I'm looking for the cheapest deal.
Kindly assist.

You can check out this one too, says it support both Miracast and Wi-Di(most recent) plus it comes with a usb dongle and software for Win 7/8 machines that are not Miracast/Wi-Di compatible.
http://www.actiontec.com/products/product.php?pid=298#.URFh7KXTJYY
Can be had from Amazon for around $80.
http://www.amazon.com/ACTIONTEC-SBW...TF8&qid=1360093799&sr=8-1&keywords=screenbeam
I have tested this on a laptop with the usb dongle and it works. Screen res of the machine needs to be 1920x1080 for it to look good. There was some video lag when playing HD youtube in full screen. Have not tested Miracast/Wi-Di on it.
Looks like the Netgear stuff can be had cheaper but reviews on any of these devices are less than stellar including the Actiontec one.
The PTV3000 works perfectly (I've tested miracast with beta firmware) , and I've heard Widi also works. There's a thread in this forum called "Wireless Display Adapters (Miracast)" which has info about the ptv3000

Nyko pro pad triger buttons

Ok so by now we all know the Nyko pad is garbage. If I didn't have my galaxy s3 still floating around, I wouldn't have been able to downgrade to jb 4.1 in order to use the Nyko app to update the pro pads firmware which in itself is a ridiculous process. So even with the firmware update, the L and R triggers still don't work. I was playing Dead Trigger 2 and before the update the R trigger wouldn't work, now after the update the L trigger doesn't work. I was playing Doom GLES (awesome btw) and the triggers don't work at all. So can anyone offer any insight? Would this be the same with a diffferent controller? Is it just a matter of the apps not supporting controllers with triggers? Is there a better controller option for console mode besides the Nyko? The Nvidia Shield is an incredible device, though I bet we all wish it was a little more plug and play without all these issues. Hopefully Shield 2 will nail it.

I havent had any problems with the shield and controls. Between games supporting the shield and using the gamepad mapper, i havent had any issues. I havent played a plethora of games either.

Are you using the Nyko pro pad in console mode and the triggers work?

No i should have clarified that in my OP. i have a pretty long mini hdmi cable so i just use the shield itself for a controller. If u have a ps3 controller check out six axis, i think its one of the better options when it comes to using a secondary bluetooth controller

Yeah that was actually going to be my next thread, asking opinions about using ps3 controller and sixaxis. I'm going to try that. How long is that HDMI cable you have lol.

I wanna say its 20 feet long but it might be shorter and the one in my gaming room i have a 6 footer. I use my 42 inch tv as a monitor
Quick update. I returned the nyko and just for kicks I tried the Red Samurai Bluetooth controller that Gamestop sells and the triggers work without a hitch!!!!! None of the hiccups that the Nyko had and its only $25 bucks. It doesn't have a home button or the mouse mode that the Nyko has but its truly not that big of a deal to exit out of any app the long way. The right analog stick still functions as a mouse like on the shield itself so console mode is good. Played Dead Trigger 2 no problem.

stock nvidia shield controller emulator

Hello, My shield got stolen before Christmas so I went out and got the new shield tablet this time.
On the tablet it don't have the stock controller emulator like the handheld one does.
So I want to see if I could put the stock controller emulator from the handheld one to my tablet and see if it would work.
Was hoping if someone new the name of it so I could hunt it down and try it.
Also if anyone know a good controller emulator that might work that would also be great.
Also I wanted to say that It was so worth the money to buy the wifi version with the controller and 64GB sd card.
Best tablet I've had so far.

Nvidia shield console vs tablet

I need a little clarification. The Nvidia console is running the same type of android as the tablet but has integration with Android TV. So outside of a little bit of a spec boost why can't android TV be done on the Nvidia shield tablet using Console mode hooked up to a TV via HDMI? I'm really not seeing the difference in the two products other than some specs and hardware.

I just tried it then with my Xperia Z2 Tablet, I downloaded the apk from: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/leanback-launcher/. Then pressed home and selected it as my launcher. I then plugged my Xbox 360 controller into my OTG Cable, then into the Tablet. I was able to launch Leo's fortune without a hiccup. Try for yourself.
So technically I could do this with a MHL to HDMI adaptor, but im still going to be getting the Nvidia Shield because I want something permanent in my loungeroom

Did you have to root to do this? Also do you only need the launcher apk or any other files? Not sure if all the services would run the same.
My original point is I have the shield tablet not sure why it can't do exactly the same thing as the console.

I do have root but sideloading an APK doesnt require root. Try it yourself.
If you want that full Android TV experience though, I'd go with the Shield TV
I guess I don't k ow why the tablet can't do what the console does. They are so similar.

Maybe because they're two separate devices that are different things. While I guess I can see what you mean about them being similar, they're different form factors, meant fit different purposes. If you must, install adb drivers and sideload the launcher, or just transfer the apk and install. Tbh though, you're not missing out. True story - it's just a phone without its own screen with a limited launcher. The search function is kind of cool , but nothing amazing. You can say show me movies that won an Oscar in 2012 , or show me movies with Kevin Hart, and it will show you movies, but mostly not what your looking for. I only bought it because ive been streaming games via moonlight on my note 4, and I thought it would be nice to stream them to my tv.

Actually that is what I would like. Contextual search. Appletv is a letdown. Chrome cast has been good but I rather have the interface and the contextual search. I like how androidtv is laid out and interacts with Google now. With that said I already us the tablet so I not going to get the console, which brings me to the reason I am questioning why I can't recreate the same experience. I would like there is more than just the launcher.

Little bit of a spec boost? At least twice as powerful, and 4K at 60FPS to boot.
It also uses the android TV platform which even though it is based on 5.1.1 it is different then the tablet os.
Also the hardware is different.

Beside the spec boost what I want to to flash the android TV platform on my tablet but haven't seen a thread that does this. The lea back launcher is unresponsive when I use it (cannot tap anything on the screen).

Nvidia Shield TV 2

I've read that Nvidia have decided to leave the mobile and tablet devices. Does this mean no Shield TV 2?

I don't think so. If they have chance to make money, they make money. That's how it works.
