Galaxy S5 Cases, Batteries and Screen Protectors - Galaxy S 5 Accessories

Ever since I owned my first Moto Droid, I never really cared for cases, batteries or screen protectors. I bought a case and screen protector for my Droid. The screen protector had a super cheap feel to it, like an orange peel, and eventually became discolored from being in my pocket. The case was awkward and bulky, making it uncomfortable in my pocket. So I removed both the case and screen cover. And proceeded to go case and cover-less for the next few generations of smart phones. Unfortunately the Droid was the only one that didn't break by the time it was retired. Flash-forward to my Galaxy S4. I got a crazy deal on it used, $25 with a Mophie and ZAGG middle-of-the-line screen cover still sealed in the case. So I went to the ZAGG cart in the mall, paid the like $8 difference, and got the tempered glass screen protector. Even at the $35 regular price, it's an investment I will make with every phone from now on. The Mophie was also incredibly convenient. I wouldn't pay $100 for it though.
Moving on. I was given an S5 recently. That involved some maneuvering to get it to work the way I wanted. But I SIM unlocked it to change from AT&T to T-Mobile, rooted, ROMed (on TMS5 2.0, which I absolutely love), flashed all the black/clear GAPPS and set everything up. So now that it runs perfectly for me, I wanna protect it. It already had a cracked tempered glass cover (but the phone screen was flawless) that I've already gotten a replacement sent to me . Now I'm looking at cases. Whether to get an extended battery case, like the Zerolemon, but not to that degree.. I don't need 8500mah. I was thinking around 3600 or so in order to keep a pow-profile case. I've even been considering just getting a regular case and carrying the juice pack I have for extra power. I made a photoshop of the dimensions. I'm leaning towards the Spigen as it seems to offer the protection of the Ringke Max but is quite a bit smaller.
Any experiences, suggestions, ideas, anything? Thank you in advance for your help

so essentially I've decided against backup battery case or extended battery with case. The TENergy juicepack/bluetooth headset has been more than enough extra power, plus it holds a bluetooth headset which I normally wouldn't care to bring along with me, but as I have it on me now anyways, I use it a lot more than I would have expected. Moving on...
The case I'll be getting is the Spigen Slim Armor. I was looking at the Ringke Slim and Ringke Max and then decided on the Spigen because although ts larger than the Slim, it's smaller than the Max but seems to offer the same protection as it.
I've decided to get a Qi wireless charging module since they've announced that Qi charging will be receiving an update very soon making it as fast as the quick charge 2.0 (which is the fastest way to charge the S5 currently). And now there are Qi modules for the S5 that can fit inside the Spigen Slim Armor case and charge through it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDAJEey7wE0&feature=youtu.be
which will make it far more convenient to charge than having to take the flap off and replacing it every time I charge. Which I can only imagine will be more difficult with the addition of a case now.
So so far my phone will include:
The Galaxy S5 G900A flashed to T-Mobile (free)
ZAGG tempered glass screen protector ($5.99 shipping charge to replace the cracked one that was on the phone when it was given to me)
Spigen Slim Armor case in white ($16.99 shipped on Amazon)
S5 SlimPWRcard Qi module ($16.99 shipped on Amazon)
TENergy 7800mAh juice pack with detachable (free)
so far I'm in this phone a grand total of $40 and only intend to buy one more thing for it. The Qi charger itself. I'm leaning towards a Koolpad. Any suggestions?

I have a koolpad for my S5, also have the Samsung QI battery cover. I highly recommend the Koolpad, as my device has not heated up that much that I have noticed.

Awesome. Thanks for the input. I've heard that a lot about that charger. That Qin charging has a tendency to heat the phone, sometimes dangerously hot. But the Koolpad, as the name suggests, keeps it significantly cooler

I don't know how long it will take to charge, but the phone recognized the charger and seems to be charging. The stock back cover had a slight lump from the receiver, but after installing the Element case you can't tell it's there. The case fits tight like it did before. I'm sure the Element Recon Chroma would work as well. I've yet to install my TechArmor ballistic glass screen protector. Hopefully it will fit too with no problems.
P.S. it charged 2% in the time it took to post this message. 7 minutes (52%-54%)
I installed my screen protector with no problems. Install was very quick and trouble free. No interference with the case. As for wireless charging, phone went from 52% to full in an hour to two hours. I wasn't really watching it for the last hour. Didn't here a beep, but I was in the other room eating dinner at the time.

i wouldn't go for case-mate for the charge. this item is not on their website so who knows if this is even a case-mate case. Case-mate is pretty reputable but since this isn't on their website I would stay away.

I used the barely there for over a year on my EVO and never a problem. I dropped it a couple times. I believe these hard shells give the corners/back/body more strength withour adding bulk. These things are already plenty big IMO. With the gorilla glass I dont think there is any need for screen protection. IMHO
I did order the one off Ebay, but that Incipio looks pretty sweet too. I'll let you know how it works out in 7-10 days
I probably would have given the Case Mate case a try if I had seen it when I ordered my Incipio Silicrylic case, but I like the styling of the Incipio so we will see how that one works out for me in a few days, but it is good to see that there might be a Barely There case available for the Charge which is a good thing.
Those could possibly be real. I would wait either way. Do not go for the Incipo feather, it is horrible. I liked it for my Atrix but the deign they did for the Charge is horrible.
case-mate and barely there
I've seen the case-mate barely there cases on ebay even before they were released on the official site. As of this writing case-mate does have the barely there cases in stock (at least when I check). It comes in two colors black and pink.
As for the alternatives I bought the Incipio case only because I couldn't resist that thin red profile. But I made the purchase knowing full well what I was getting into--if you are looking for actual protection follow the advice of the previous posters and look elsewhere. It's also worth mentioning that the case-mate version is a complete piece in terms of surrounding the phone--the Incipio has a break on the left side for the charger port and destroys the aesthetic for a lot of people.
On a side note, some ebay sellers seem to be selling the case-mate tough line. I would never personally order anything from ebay without having seen it in stock on the official website. But ebay had the barely there cases even before case-mate's site had it in stock. They did have a preview of the product however, you just couldn't order it. If the tough cases are showing up on ebay it's probably safe to assume that they will be offering it quite soon officially. Even amazon has an official pre-order for the item but their time frame is 1-3 months.
I hope they release the tough cases soon, I had one for the Nexus One and was really happy with it and it looks thinner (by its pics) than the Incipio dual layer case that is currently being offered. I want a bit more protection for my phone but want to avoid making it too thick so the Otter and Trident cases are out the window, even if they offer extra covering.
I've been waiting for CaseMate to release this for awhile now. I just ordered it and will probably do a review when I get it.
I was disappointed in the Incipio Feather, I did a review a few pages back (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1147494). In fact, shortly after my review, the coating started to come off around the edges, which was pretty disappointing.
OK, I dont know how Ebay gets stuff before it's even on the manufacturers own website, but this is the real deal! If not, it the best looking knockoff I've ever seen. I had one for close to a year with my EVO and this one has the same build quality. It amazes me how tight these cases fit, yet snap on or off effortlessly. I am definitely happy now and wont need another till I get my GSII.
The fit is amazing, but hey...a picture tells more than I can. Even with me poor photo skillz

Another thing...Ordered on Friday at 9AM and received Mondays mail. That's great for ebay.
Thank you so much for posting your pics!
I was curious as to how the case-mate one looked. I was debating on purchasing it but I really want a red one. I have the red Incipio feather case but the case-mate looks like it puts it to shame. The feather case sits a mm or two below the plane of the screen which I don't like--along with the break for the charger port. At the time I got my phone I had little choice but I'll have to take the case-mate version into consideration.
I ordered the tough case off amazon, it should arrive in a day or two. Ever since I got a spare battery I have to constantly remove the feather case and the inner edge of the case is tearing. I can see the silver lining now--it's not too bad but it is annoying if you notice small things like that.
I saw that the ebay seller has a white one but I did not see this on Case Mates website. The picture on ebay looks a little green though. Would like something other than black or pink ...
Now they are on CM site' lol
http://www.case-mate.com/Samsung-Dr...e-Samsung-Droid-Charge-Barely-There-Cases.asp
Anybody know how these compare to the incipio feather cases. They are the same price. and look almost the same. Was wondering if there was any difference quality wise.
Incipio Feather I had this on my fascinate and loved it. Very sturdy.
Well the Incipio Feather is so bad that I actually sent mine back. The button cutouts were uncomfortable to use and it did not wrap around the screen. The main reason I wanted it was so I could put my phone screen down without a screen protector. I had the Feather on my Atrix and loved it.
The Barely There looks like its designed a lot better. I would not even consider the Feather if I were you.

Thanks I went with the case mate.
Anyone know if either of these fit in the desktop dock?
If you mean the Samsung Dock (model ECR-D994BE) it won't. I have it and no kind of plastic case will allow the phone to sit flush in the dock. You will have to remove the case to use the dock properly.
The Case-Mate does pop off & on very easily.
The Bestbuy Rocketfish case is also a great barely there case.
It completely wraps the phone.. I have it and love it so far.

Cases/covers: what are you using?

Just as it says, what is everyone using?
I'll go first. Currently using a cheap generic cover from mall. An otterbox defender is on order, however.
Ever since I saw the Nexus 5(one of the most fragile smartphones I've experience over the past couple of years) in a drop test in the Bugdroid Cruzerlite TPU case on YouTube, I have been sold on their cases. I was a fan of simple bumper cases before these.
Since I am used to having one of those on my N5, when I first got the G3, it felt too thin, was hard to grip and hold properly. Since then, I have received the black Bugdroid case(3 days ago) and I have been loving it on the G3. I couldn't say enough good things about the case and how it feels in the hand with this device
Love my Bodyglove case! Feel great and super grippy.

Circle cover case cause I wanted the wireless pma charging ability and I like the circle case lock screen. For the pma charger I picked up Duracell 24 hour three piece set for iPhone 4/4s. Base charger in the set works for the circle case and used the 4s charging case for my work iPhone. Only paid $19 from Amazon for charging set but $59 from att for circle case

How much thicker is the quick circle case compared to the stock back? How difficult would it be to remove the pma reciever & install in stock back?

The plastic isn't flush on the corners like oem back but it doesn't look bad. Also the back feels more tactile. There doesn't seem to be a bigger 'bump' on the back vs oem. Main diff is the corners and the feel.
Not sure how hard it would be to do a transplant of the receivers....

Bought the case linked below while I wait for the red Seidio Surface case/holster combo to become available. For $9, it's much more than I expected. Very good quality and has a kickstand on the phone shell and the holster.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00KSK56UG/ref=redir_mdp_mobile?ref_=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_LcwZtb0FQ5Q8W
I have Spigen slim armor and zagg invisible shield glass. Both provide excellent protection.
Supcase Bumper C ase
I'm using supcase bumper case and a glass screen protector. It's a frost back so you can see the back of the phone and it's a perfect fit.. Its thin so it adds minimum bulk. Got it off amazon.:good:
Raw doggin it for now. Cases add too much bulk for my liking, till I drop it and it takes a beating. Then I'll most likely get as small and thin a case as I can find.
I picked up the AT&T tempered glass screen protector. It is on the expensive side at $29, but I used the $15 Isis credit that the AT&T rep hooked me up with, so the out of pocket cost was only $15 and it was great to get it right away. I bought the phone at bestbuy and they didn't tell me about the Isis credit.
The protector is great. No complaints.
I really want the official slim case when it is available in the US.
Im using the Otter Box Defender. It does add some bulk but the protection is extraordinary and it looks nice as well. The one downfall of this case is the screen protector is reflective.
On your defender holster clip, is there an excessive amount of space at the bottom between the holster and phone?
Just got a white Poetic Invictus case off ebay. The G3 version does not have the funky kickstand. Good fit with not too much bulk. It's no otterbox, but for $12.95 I can't complain. Only gripe is that the plastic is rather slippery.
Rocking a black incipio dualpro with an iCarez 0.2mm tempered glass screen protector. Works nice and looks good too!

Currently using the PT Platinum, it was the only thing Best Buy had in store for the LG G3. I was waiting for the Otterbox Symmetry Series to show up on Amazon so I can return the PT, but it hasn't yet..
I think the Otterbox site has themfor sale
I can count on a single hand the number of times I dropped my Galaxy Note over the past 2.5 years, and it was mostly onto carpet, so I felt getting a giant Otterbox this time around would be superfluous. I'm using a Spigen Slim Armor Case, which has much better grip than the actual phone, has decent padding on the inside, and isn't too thick. I've had it for five days and love it. The LG G3 would slide out of my pocket while driving, but with the case there's enough friction to prevent that, though not enough to make it a hassle pulling it out.

Actually, the defender series this time doesn't seem as bulky as in the past. But I'm still thinking about buying the slim armour and a leather holster.
super snug case. looks good.

Help me find a note 4 case with holster!

I need help finding a case that has a belt holster, the phone is too big and too hard to put into my pants sometimes and is very frustrating. My note 2 I used the platinum case. However I would prefer a more 'gel grip' case if possible.
Edit: Must be white!
Yes let me know too!
Yeah I would be interested too. Maybe just a holster as I like the case I have already.
Buy the pelican case through AT&T. Best case out by FAR
I ordered 2 through amazon. The Encased and Cellbee brands. Waiting for them to arrive to seenif they are any good.

i have this in black. its not bad. plenty of protection, built in screen protector (at least till there are some decent glass ones, then its coming off or i'll get a uag to go with it. i cut off the dust covers to the usb and headphone, i just dont like them on any case. i'd rate it a 6 or 7/10. i prefer uag though.
it comes with a holster. not as good of one as say otterbox, but it works and keeps it secure. just not as fluid in and out of it.
Too bad that it must be white. My Seidio Surface is perfect for me.

I'm looking forward to getting my Surface today but even more forward to Seidio releasing the Convert add on kit so I can order that and their Quest car mount.
I think you'll like it. I had the Speigen cases just to get by, and paid more than I needed to for the Seidio on Preorder overnight, but man the thing is almost perfect. I added a flygrip to it which makes it complete for me, obviously not for everyone, but certainly functional. Wish I got just a plain black flygrip, but will have to manage for now.

Eventually when Best Buy gets them they sell the Surface w/ holster for $20 less than Seidio. It's called their Platinum series. But I needed some protection 2 weeks ago when I got the phone. This Seidio Surface is the 4th case I've ordered, the first three orders were cancelled. Between that and the glass screen protector issue it has been a real PITA trying to protect this phone.
My Seidio Surface is junk. It feels cheap around the edges, doesn't seem 100% snug, plus the the top section and the bottom section slide around a little bit at the connection. I am really disappointed in Seidio .

If mine fits like that I'll send it back. If I wasn't able to turn the Surface into the Convert model I never would have ordered it. I think it's way overpriced and underfeatured. Doesn't even have covers for the side rocker switches let alone dust caps for the headphone jack & mini USB port. For $35 + freight to me that's too much money for what the case offers.
to me it has the feeling of a cheap case made in china bought off ebay. ..
Why not look at getting a leather type case that will fit the phone with a case. That's what I'm doing. I have the Incipio case and ordered a leather belt pouch to hold it. I prefer a belt clip, but I am hesitant to use Seidio anymore since my Note 2 days. I had the Surface for the Note 2 and it scratched the heck outta the phone's frame.
I've had better luck with rubber base cases. On my Note 2, I switched to the Otterbox Commuter with its rubber liner and was scratch free. That's why I'm trying the Incipio 2 piece case that has a rubber skin and a plastic outer shell like the Otterbox Commuter.

I'm a modder at heart. So most likely like the guy above did with the clip on the case, however I'm doing research currently to find a way to remove it so the clip can stay on your belt.

Just received my surface case/belt clip combo. I really like it so far. Not to thick, not too thin. I'll post some pics and a short review after I get home from work.
seidio case and belt clip
just received my seidio case and belt clip.... loving it ... not bulky and great fit for the note edge...just what i've been looking for.
I will be ordering one too. I have the Verizon clam-shell case and it is very inconvenient to put the phone back in since it is "loaded" sideways. I'm afraid I will drop it putting it back in!
Belt clip holster and case boxes.

Belt clip holster and case
Installation is easy. The case comes in 2 parts that slide together and interlock.
Kickstand deployed
Imo, Seidio did a great job. The case is of very good quality and is lighter and thinner than my Casemate pop case. The case itself is made of high impact plastic, with a soft tough rubber coating that feels wonderful to the touch, providing a smooth but good grip. The belt clip holster is made of similar plastic as the case and has a soft felt lining inside to protect your phones display. The belt clip also rotates 180 degrees to the left or right. Your phone can only be inserted face in, right side up. The kickstand is metal and feels sturdy and tucks away flush in the case when not in use. Only complaints are the high price and i wish the kickstand was a little wider.
I give it a 9 out of 10 with 2 thumbs up:good::good:
OK, I ordered one from Android Central tonight. The combo was only $44.95! (On sale I guess) Thanks for posting the pics.
I've had Seidio combo cases in the past and they have consistently been my favorite in function and quality.
Question....I have a right angle headset cord. With all the cases I have so far I had to modify them to get it to stay in firmly. Anyone know if this one is more right angle friendly?
Placement of the mic holes
I have the Verizon Note 4 that I'm swapping out for the Edge. I also have the Seido combo for the Note 4 and the microphone holes on the bottom of the phone don't line up as Verizon slightly changed the placement of the mic. Which variant do you have and if it is the Verizon version, do the holes of the Seido case line up with the mic holes of the case? Thanks in advance.
sold american!
This is just what I have been waiting for. A sturdy case with a kick stand that is not bulky (like the other 3 I purchased). I ordered just the case for 31 bucks off android central. It will be here in a few days. Thanks for yhe heads up.
My case came in the mail saturday .. This is THE case that I haave been looking for. Its thin, adds little to no weight and has a freaking kick stand! Thank you for the introduction to this product .. :good::good:
I just received mine today that I ordered from Newegg last week ($35 for the combo). Overall I have to say this is my favorite case so far ( had a $10 one from Amazon when the phone first came out and the Incipio dual shock pro since that was released).
It is much slimmer than both, which also allows me to use my right angle cord for my headphones(beats-Android version). The kickstand is awesome and its holster is much better than having using the note 2 otterbox, that fit well-but the clip kept breaking...this one is much more sturdy. The buttons are also cutout and are much easier to use. It's also easy to pop on& off, so if u are a spare battery person is a breeze.
The only downfall I see initially is that it is a little slippery for now, but I feel like that will go away as I use it more.

Have to give Seidio Case / Holster combo a + 1 ! :good:
I have used Seidio cases on my last 3 Note series phones, and they have all held up well and are great quality. I had a cheap bulky holster combo on until I received this case, and it REALLY made this phone usable again without the bulk, JMO. I just can't keep a phone in my pocket...

Sorry for not being quicker on this... The microphone holes line up perfectly on the top and bottom of the Edge phone using the Edge specific case and holster.

Soooo my phone took a 9 ft drop onto concrete today. Phone is perfect and the case doesn't even have a scratch on it. I'm loving this case.

Galaxy Note Edge Case, Verus [Thor]
This case is absolutely one of the best cases I have put on any phone very slim, tight fit and offers very good protection. To top it off it is $19.99 now on amazon! I would have gladly paid $40 easily. I just ordered a gold one when I want to switch from my black one!

Case or no Case?

I got the One M8 a few days ago and with what happened with my DNA I got a Defender case. I got a case mainly to keep the phone itself as close to like-new condition as possible. I also have a hard time holding the phone bare w/o having it slip out my hands. I wanted to see how everyone else has their phone either with a case or without. Also if you had the phone since release or close and don't run a case I really want to see what type of conditioning it's in.
Here's mine in my Otterbox (yes that's pink)

I always use a thin case to avoid scratches, keep the screen off a surface when placed face down, and for grip. I never use a screen protector. For my M8 i chose this one and am quite happy with it. It will also fit in a Seidio SURFACE belt-clip holster. Doesn't look bad either.

I got the UAG off Amazon. It's pretty slim but offers great grip and protection. Also has a hole in power button for remote control too.

Defender case since new with zagg screen protector
I've been anti-case/anti-screen protector forever.....even with my DNA. The M8, while gorgeous au natural, is also very slippery. I went with the Dot View because I like the added functionality and it makes it grippy enough that I won't drop it. It's not a great protective case like an Otter et al...but (knocking on wood) I do not drop my phones and it protects the screen from scratches in my pocket/bag/etc.
I use the spigen slim armor case. Fairly thin. Has air cushion corners for shock absorption. You can mix and match multiple colors. Two piece case. Rubber interior with tpu cover.
See here on Amazon.

I was running mine naked until I recently just bought that same case...for the slip prevention. I had the phone slip out of my shorts and between car seats a couple of times. Happy with this case.

I got a black Otterbox Defender the day I received the phone for the same reasons you bought your case, protection, makes it easier to hold and I really like the kickstand feature, I use the phone at night as a bedside alarm clock.
I went with the clear case Verizon sells. I like it, and a phone that looks this good really should be shown off in my opinion. I'm not at all sold on otter boxes. I used one briefly on a BlackBerry and I thought it was the most overrated piece of craps ever invented. I don't do the screen protector thing either. Modern screens are damn near impossible to scratch with normal use. The last time I used one was on my Rezound, and only for a short while, and after 3 years I only had one scratch as a result of jamming my phone in my pocket with my keys.
Used the HTC Flip Case (didn't like it much, and in any event it gave its life for a test phone); a no-name clear TPU case; the Spigen clear case; and a Dotview case. Oh, and the clear case that Big Red sold with the rubber strip around the side. I prefer the Dotview case. I really like that functionality. I feel the other cases leave the screen too exposed.
Use a case. I had a Dot View, it fell out of my pocket from maybe 2' off the ground at the most when I was leaning over. Dot View flipped open, phone landed face down, hairline crack that eventually spider webbed. Flash forward 2 months. Hardest phone to fix screen on ever-the guys who replaced it, broke other things in the process. Now I bought used M8 and Otterbox. If you crack the screen you can almost just toss it. I bought a mint used one for not much more than the screen replacement cost.
From my Incredible 2, DNA, and now M8 I've disliked cases. They always make the phone feel bulky and take away from its design.
For my M8 I have a Phantom Glass screen protector that I cannot recommend enough, and a skin from Slickwraps to avoid some of the phone's slipperiness, prevent scratches, and in my opinion make it look better.
So I went crazy and bought a UAG case, Spigen slim armor, and a Zagg glass screen protector. The slim armor came in and its the same color as my phone (love that) and it is a perfect case (for me). It adds enough bulk so that I can grip the phone better and to protect the body from scuffs, and its thin enough to feel close enough to the actual phone design. Also the detail of the case is spot on.
After hearing about tat issue with the cracked screen I'm glad I got a glass screen protector. As for the UAG, don't know if I'll try it or just return it outright. I may just use the UAG whenever I'm one handed vlogging and use the Otterbox as a travel case. In any case (no pun intended) I want to at least get the $60 out of my Otterbox.....
No case, and this is the only phone I've ever owned that I have dropped a few times. It's never broken, but plenty of scratches on the screen now. Still never going to use a case because I use the official car dock. The screen scratches way too easily though. If I ever break it I'll replace the screen - it is difficult, but nothing compared the the M7 or plenty of other older phones like the MyTouch 4G Slide.
I have always used some kinda case. I have outerboxx defender on HTC one m8. Perfect condition.
I use a case called poetic from Amazon ~$8 and its about same quality as defender otter box just no clip and I use extreme guard tempered glass. Overall nice grip and has lasted so far 8mths

I am using the Otterbox Symmetry case. I like how it is a little thinner and lighter then the commuter case which I originally had on my M8. The rubber power button on the Commuter case started causing my phone to turn off on its own, I have not had the problem with the new Symmetry line Otterbox has.
I've got a moto e (2015) and no case...
