[Q] Battery dying ??? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My 1 month old s6 (920i) struggles to get a 3.5hr SOT during the day. Coming from the s3 where i used to easily get a 5hr SOT with the same usage style i can say this is pathetic. In the battery section top of the list i have Android OS and Google Services, followed by Facebook and Instagram. All drain battery more than the screen itself !!?
Note that i have most of the things turned off except when using them, such as wifi, gps, nfc etc...
Also i tried booting to stock recovery and clearing cache but this has not solved the issue.
The phone does go to deep sleep as i have checked using BBS.
What could be the issue any help or tips is greatly appreciated.

3.5 hours of battery life for continous heavy use is just about average. I get the same battery usage times.

[Q] Need help regarding battery issue Samsung GT i5801 galaxy 3

I have been using samsung galaxy 3 for last 3 weeks. As a newbie as a android user I am really confused about battery back up I am getting. I am generally getting 1-1.5 days back up, with moderate use of, 5-10 shorter phone calls, 3-4 hours of surfing, GPS always off, background data/auto sync off and switching it on only I connect to APN. More over I feel that I am not getting the proper battery indicator reading also. It shows battery is almost over and shuts off, and when I switching it on it shows 30% is still remaining. This is utterly confusing. I dont know anything about rooting phones and all. So anyone there to help this layman?? Please. Thanx in advance.

the battery of our phone lasts that much only even mine lasted for 1.5 days
lot of reviews say that our battery lasts only 2days with normal use
yea... battery lasts for a day or 2 only.. android uses much power.. so its normal..
battery LIFE!!
Yeah battery lasts 1.5 days for heavy usage..
you can boost performance by installing juice defender like apps from market.
also by underclocking and undervolt you can save some power.
for battery calibration follow this, it helped me to boost my battery life as it eliminates the so called memory effect.

Battery life problems running ARHD ICS

Hey Im running Android Revolution HD 6.2.1 and have noticed that battery life is lackluster as of late. Last time I ran ARHD it was before ICS and i had a Bricked kernel installed which increased battery life considerably.
I was wondering about having mobile data turned on all of the time, I have a messaging application called Kik which me and my two friends constantly talk on. Could it be that because this app is constantly monitoring the data connection for new messages that my battery life has gotten so bad?
It could be also that I dont have my battery optimized. After flashing in a new lock screen ring and battery percentage meter my phone began to lag. I cleared the cache and dalvic and reflashed the rom fixing the lag. Were my battery stats also reset?
If they were would it be correct to just use a battery calibration tool and hope for the best? Any suggestions on improving my miserable battery life would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton and sorry for the wall of text!
Mobile Data seems quite heavy on the battery so that's a possibility. I use WhatsApp which is essentially the same thing but unless I need the messages to come through I just turn Mobile Network off.
No, wiping the dalvik and cache shouldn't affect battery stats.
You could try calibrate the battery stats.
Also, when you see people saying their phone lasts for 2 days whatever it's because they've barely used their phone with the screen on for an extended period of time so don't think your battery life is bad if it 'only' lasts for 12 hours moderately i.e. some music, texts, browsing etc.

[Q] Battery Issues

This another battery post... I'm seriously starting to think that there is something wrong with my battery. Yesterday I got a day's use only with three hours sot. I didn't even use it heavily just browsing with chrome. Right now I'm getting 9 hours and down to 65 percent. 1 hour 50 mins of just browsing with chrome. Havent used any other apps either. I'm running mahdi ROM and before I had some battery problems with cm11s battery. I don't have anything waking up my phone so no wakelocks and I haven't been playing music either.
I don't have a lot of apps open and I do use greenify. Screen brightness is below 50% for 95% of my usage time. Reception is soso as I am on At&t and for some reason I can't get good signal on 4g so I go on 3g which is better. I also use wifi quite alot.
I have been told that my Android System usage is very high and I don't know why it is doing that. I got better battery life on cm11s but it is still low in comparison to others. Other people have not even modded their system in anyway and they are getting better SOT and total battery hours.
Pictures: imgur(.)com/a/6MUy2 (Mahdi Rom) Note: I didn't want it to drain overnight because then it would have be skewed results as I would be sleeping and not using it. Hence the screenshots at 35%
Pictures: imgur(.)com/a/xWmWh (CM11s) Not running this anymore

Battery Life Decreased After Updating to 5.1.1

Before anyone asks I have searched, Googled, looked on reddit, and gone through these guides on xda:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/guide-to-battery-life-t3092593
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/guide-battery-performance-tips-t3072049
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/10-battery-life-tips-tricks-t3088264
I have a Galaxy S6 fro Rogers in Canada (no root) and I recently updated from 5.0.2 to 5.1.1 and my battery life has gone to crap, my usage patterns and apps remain the same as before. Previously I would get about 4 hours SoT, 5 on a good day. Now I can barely get 2.5 hours SoT. I have no other problems with this phone, none of the RAM issues, lagging, or over heating other people have mentioned, my only problem is the poor battery life.
The apps are primarily use are Facebook, Puzzle and Dragons, Messenger, and Chrome, I realise that these are battery guzzlers but 2.5 hours is ridiculous and I used to get more using the same apps. I typically start using my phone around 8am from 100%, and by 5pm after 2.5 hours SoT it is around 20% battery life, previously it would hit 20% around 11pm with about 4 hours SoT. No apps are draining a particularly large amount according to GSAM.
To reiterate the things I have done to improve my battery life are:
1. disabling unused apps in application manager
2. setting brightness to lowest setting on auto
3. restarting phone
4. restarting phone in safemode
5. clearing cache
6. performing a factory reset after updating to 5.1.1
7. leaving wifi gps off when not in use (but I'm not constantly turning it on and off either)
8. Greenifying apps I use less than once a day (but anything with push notifications is not Greenified)
Additionally I have not moved or anything and reception in my area has always been decent. Any suggestions for what else I should do? My phone is still under warranty, should I send it to a service centre? Or should I try rooting it an actually deleting bloatware and having an ad blocker (though this would void the warranty...).
Please advise! I am very frustrated with this battery life.
Im having the same issue after updating the GS6 on Wind (Canada) to 5.1.1. Terrible battery life and Android OS draining battery as well. I barely get 2.5 SoT.
I'll join this unfortunate crew. I have to charge everyday before leaving work in order to get through the day.
Take off the charger at home when I leave and by the time I get to work(30-40 min drive) I'm at ~95%. By lunch I'm down to around 50%.
Hoping Android M fixes some issues
Clear cache in storage option and reboot! It will very slightly improve!

http://communityforums.rogers.com/t5/forums/forumtopicpage/board-id/Android/thread-id/31962/page/32 Read through the last 6 or 8 pages over there. A lot of unhappy people with Rogers right now using the S6. I'm in the same boat. Crappy cell service, times it will show bars of 4G but then tell me there is no network connection. Try to make a call with full bars at 4G and it will say not registered on network. Text messages being sent and received twice automatically. No connection at all in places my HTC used to have 4G if not LTE. I had to send my S6 away for camera repair for a week so I pulled back out my old HTC M8 for that time and my connection was stable and awesome everywhere just like I thought it should be. Now that I'm back on my S6 it's barely hanging onto EDGE in places I had full 4G bars on the HTC like at my desk at work. Places I spend a lot of time at.
I suggest you call Rogers and talk to the tech support. Tell them your issues. The more complaints the faster the issue will be resolved. It sounds wide spread so don't waste your time trying to fix it yourself.

Thanks for the link, I didn't think to check the Rogers forums, I'll call their tech support to let them know of my issues and hope they are working on something.
I also have this issue. I was able to make it through an 8hr work day before the update. Now it's down to 10% or to completely dead. My usage at work did not change. Sucks that I have to plug my phone into my car just to get enough juice to make the drive home.
Just to confirm are you guys all now on 5.1.1 and is battery life the only issue you are experiencing?
I talked to a rep with my carrier (Rogers) and he said that the known issues were to do with connectivity (calls, data), but not with battery. He said battery issues that could not be resolved by a reset should sent in for service.

There was some discussion in various places about cell standby being a HUGE drain on the battery when connected to WIFI.
My issues are data and call related. I've never been one to care that much about battery but it does seem off from what I'm used too and I'm seeing some long times on the mobile radio being active.
I think it's safe to say that all of this stems for the 5.1.1 update. Cell reception "problems" can lead to big battery drains and if our phones are having issues staying in tune with the towers, it could cause big battery drain.
Keep an eye on what might be causing your battery drain though. It might be something silly like an app trying to do something.
I have also noticed a sharp drop in battery life now that I'm on 5.1.1.
USA AT&T.
I'm really at a loss. GSAM says "Android System" under apps as well as "Phone Radio" are the highest drain.

Battery life.

Hi everyone, i'm having this problem, where i just can't seem to get over 5 hours on screen time. It doesnt matter if im playing full blast games or just checking social networks from time to time, i just can't get it over 5 hours. The battery menu in settings just says that 30-40% battery is used by "mobile network standby" GSam however says that screen is 37%, phone radio 23% and apps 39%. In the apps menu it says that the biggest usage is from Kernel (android os) and android system. The phone is about a month or two old. My friend has a Huawei mate 10 pro, which has just 70 mah more than the u11 plus, but it seems like he is getting so much better battery life. Should my battery really be like this?

I have the same issue, after a hard reset always "mobile network standby" drain a lot my battery, I can't find any solution... Let me know if you resolve!
I noticed battery drain two times after round about 6 weeks. My solution in this case is to wipe cache from recovery, after that the drain was gone everytime. Tried a few other things too, nothing helps as good as the wipe....

Try to download gservicefix app in the play store and follow the instructions.
Also Force stop HTC Function Test under Settings - Apps & Notification - App Info - Show System.
It should help for few days. If the battery drain happened again, do the same thing again. I think it's a firmware bug until HTC updates the software.

Alright, thanks. Did both of these, except the HTC function test, because i don't have it. Will report back in a day or two.
Nothing really changed except for battery drain over night. Had like 14% loss over night, now its down to 4%, still cant get over 5h SOT.

The gservicefix is meant to fix battery standby drain. For SOT, it really depends on your use case. Mate 10 pro SOT is definitely better because it uses OLED display which is more battery friendly and only 1080 resolution (compared to 2k display on U11+). Still, you should get more than 5hrs SOT for moderate use. Try greenify and see if it helps.
