[Q] Huawei E589u-12 no wifi signal - General Questions and Answers

Hi, I have a Huawei E589u-12 MIFI unit, it was locked to EE but I purchased an unlock code and it has been working fine using a Knowhow (3) 12 month sim for the last few months.
A couple of days ago I turned it on and there was no wifi icon on the LED screen. Internet connection is made and I get a signal and the provider name, but no wifi Icon.
I have used the reset button to take it back to default, but still no wifi icon. I can press the WPS button and I get the SSID details and the network key but it is not broadcasting it. I have tried searching for the SSID and connecting using several mobiles and a laptop, but none will see the SSID on their wireless connection list.
Last thing I have tried is a re-flash of the EE firmware from the Russian 3ginfo site, it flashes with no problem and I can still see a connection to the network with a signal, but no wifi icon.
Is there anything else I can try before I have to just bin it?

Phone loses cellular connection regularly and doesn't find operator

My Polaris regularly loses the connection to my cellular operator (Vodafone in the Netherlands).
It happens more than once a day and even in areas with good reception.
The display then shows "No Service" where normally the operator name is shown and the icon for signal strength shows an antenna with a cross.
This in itself wouldn't be such a problem, if the phone tries to find the operator after the connection is lost. But it doesn't. Once it is lost, it stays lost.
I have to disable the phone in the communication manager and enable it againt to force the Polaris to search for the operator network.
My previous phone (a Nokia) didn't experience this problem and was used with the same SIM.
Does anyone else experience this problem?
And more important: is there some kind of setting (registry key?) to force my phone to search for my operator?
I too have the same problem. This happens for EDGE connection also on my mobile. When ever i connect and disconnected the device to my laptop, the connection to my EDGE connection is disconnected. Even if i open a new internet address, it will say cannot connect to server. I need to soft reset the device to connect to internet. I am having T-mobile USA connection. Please help. It disturbs a lot.

Wifi issue - constant reconnection

Hi,
It seems that my 1S have a wifi issue.
I can successfully connect to a wifi network, but every 2-3 sec signal is lost, then the wifi icon in the status bar disappears, then it reappears and reconnect and so on.
I am running an unlocked german tmobile (from ebay), SW version 1.77.111.5
Is someone else having the same issue?
I dont have a device which is in that connect-disconnect loop, but it does not hold onto the Wifi signal, it seems to want to fall back to using 3G/HSDPA if it can, and only after a few mins of data on the 3G/HSDPA connection does it attempt to connect to Wifi.
Does you Wifi AP broadcast its SSID? Are there many devices on the same Wifi channel as the one you are using? Use Wifi-Analyser to find out.

I'm having same issue - anyone found a solution.
It is really annoying, as quite often when I go to refresh email/facebook/twitter/ etc its says cannot update (or whatever app error), but if I wait a few moments again, it works. Really annoying when playing Draw Something, as it interrupts the game!
Any ideas - is it phone, or is it something on my router??
M
I was having this exact same issue. I went into settings, Wi-Fi, Menu, Advanced, and checked the "Best Wi-Fi performance" option and ever since I have had no problems.

Ok i think i had the same issue and i read in some threads around and you can try this:
1 - Connect to your wireless network but in settings disable DHCP and assign an manual IP (and you can disable the "best WiFi performance" because it drain lots of battery.
2 - Take out the SIM cover and pull up with care the contact pins for better connection with cover
Now i have a strong wifi signal without drops, before this i was thinking in return back my 1S but not now.
Sorry my bad English
If i help hit the "Thanks"

I decided to attempt this manual configuration as well...and it works great! Very fast login, and my network speed even seems quicker (although it probably isn't, but who knows)?
But I had a few problems along the way, but managed to fix them. Here is what you need to do:
First, before you do this, you need to use any network info app to see what your wifi router gateway is. You can pick an IP number based on that number... [Also, while it is unlikely anyone did this, you should confirm that the router doesn't do any MAC filtering (this just means the router will only connect with specific devices based on their wifi radio unique ID number... it's a overzealous way to prevent someone hacking your router and it prevents any non-authorized device from associating with it).]
Once you get that info, change the setting under wifi connect from DHCP to "Static", and below this, enter the gateway and a IP number based on your gateway... Most routers have NAT configurations that allow ~100 or 255 devices, like 192.68.X.2 thru 192.68.X.255 (or 10.1.X.2 thru 10.1.X.255) where the IP number where X=1 is typically the gateway. So just pick a number where the last number is between ~10 and 50 (just in case your router hasn't allotted the full 255 addresses). This is a good range to choose from because if your router has DHCP on (which is typical), your household probably does not have more than 10 or 11 devices connected at any given time....so you are picking an IP address at the end of this range.... So for instance, if your gateway is 192.68.1.1, pick a static IP address of 192.68.1.11 or 192.68.1.15.
Below this enter "24" for Network Prefix Length.
Below this, it has boxes for DNS servers. I ran into some problems here. I figured that since my wireless router has DNS servers already configured in its settings, I could skip this (it lets you hit connect without entering then). You can try this, and it may work (depending on your router/setup), but when I left them blank, I noticed frequent reconnections and no signal really at all.
In my case I had to enter DNS server addresses. I already had purchased an app called "Set DNS Pro" (there is a free version though) so I used that to select publicly available DNS servers. If you don't want to use the app, you can enter Google's DNS servers, 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, or check with your ISP to use theirs (which they prefer because it is easier to keep track of or control your web browsing).
So my takeaway from this was that if you do not enter DNS, you might have problems.

Wifi Connection Problem

Hello All,
I am trying to connect to my work network with no luck! Prior to the one plus one I had a Nexus 5 that connected with no issues. This is what happens:
1. Choose connect (password is saved)
2.The text under the SSID goes from "connecting" back to "saved" in less than a second. The signal bars show 3 then drop to 1.
I've tried forgetting the network, flashing different ROM, kernel, modem with no luck.
Turned off "Avoid poor network connections" and "Wi-Fi optimization:
With the Wifi analyzer app the connection is steady around -60 to -50 dBm. If I try to connect using the wifi analyzer app it just stays on "Authenticating". I know the password is correct, I've re-entered it multiple times.
The wifi network is using the 2.5 ghz band, channel 1, and WPA authentication.
I haven't tried connecting with a static IP, however I might try this next.
Any ideas, this is driving me nuts! Plus all the iPhones around me get to brag!
Thanks in advanced.
I'm having the same problem, and it also seems to stumble connecting to data networks. I have been toggling airplane mode on/off and it then finds the wifi and data networks. This is annoying as hell, when it should auto find and lock any network it has remembered and passwords are correct.
Does anybody have a fix, or is there a radio that can be flashed to correct this?

I'd love to hear any resolutions to this issue as well... I posted this in the oneplus forums recently:
"I am having this problem too with my mom and dad's OPO . But what's funny is that it doesn't happen to my OPO. This sort of rules out any WiFi/router/network issues. Is it possible that certain installed apps on their phones may render the wifi to be unstable (e.g. permission settings for these apps?) Any help from the community is appreciated, thanks... this is an annoying problem for them as it drains out their LTE data!"

Mobile Data Connection activates only when WiFi is on

Hello,
after the last Droid Ultra Update to 4.4.4 I've started having this weird behavior. I'm a T-Mobile, locked bootloader.
When I'm connected to a WiFi network, the phone status bars shows signal strenght + the LTE or HSDPA symbols
When I'm NOT connect to a WiFi network the LTE or H(SDPA) icon goes away... I can do phone calls but mobile data is indeed disabled. I've double checked all the settings menu entries and data should be enabled - also the APN settings are fine ... even so the LTE/H icons appears only once I connect to WiFi.
It' driving me crazy.
Thanks.
When you turn on hotspot 4GLTE logo shows up, right? Unfortunate for everyone. It is some problem with the system which Verizon has populated the build.prop to disable the data outside of Verizon. Nothing could be done, as far as I could tell, until root is achieved (bootloader unlock).

Settings still showing old network

I recently changed from O2 to Three and the new sim is working fine with no issues. Annoyingly in settings, connections it still shows O2 as network provider even though I’m connected to the Three network. I’ve tried re-connecting to the network both manually and automatically and still it shows O2 as network provider. I also tried resetting network settings and no difference. This has no bearing on use and I'm definitely connected to Three, I just find it irritating seeing O2 incorrectly showing. Is this a bug or is there any way to fix this?
