Ok, I have a Nexus 5 16GB unlocked and I'm having the broken power button issue, it only powers up when on the charger and just bootloops from Google splash screen back to blank. Tapping the back while trying to power it on works but only until I stop tapping. The answers I have seen all end with buying a new motherboard / logic board and swapping it out.
My question is, will a board from a 32GB with a shattered screen work on my originally 16GB N5? Does anything else make any difference in swapping like carrier / unlocked or 820 vs 821???
I already have the old board removed... Its just a matter of finding one to swap with.........
I really need this thing fixed if at all possible, thanks in advance for your help.
Go ahead. Will work just fine.

Can't you just modify your power button with like mod and improvisation to make it not stick always? One of my friend had same power button stuck problem. He wait to local repair center and with the help of technician modified his power button to make it click again.

Board swap from Nexus 32gb to 16 gb
Hey guys,
I need a quick response on this one. Does it affect the performance of Nexus 5 if i swap the board from 32gb to 16gb one?
The service centre ran out of boards because of no production and they only have 16gb board. They are asking me should they replace the board of my 32gb nexus 5 with the 16gb board.
Thanks in advance ...
so if i have the boot-looping problem on a 32 gig lg nexus motherboard. will the phone work completely fine if I put a 16 gig board in it or will the problem persist

I had to restart my phone. And then my screen goes blank. There is no display since. Even charger plugged on there is no indication.
There is some heat generated when the battery is charged and even after the cable is removed indicating some functioning of the phone hardware.
Tried the long power button hold and tried the power + volume up hold troubleshooting. But nothing happens.
Please help!
Do you have another battery that you can try? I had similar problems with one battery I had. I used another one and the phone was fine. Most energy problems are faulty batteries.
I don't have a spare battery and no stock of batteries here as well.
Any other suggestions?

try holding vol up + vol down...while holding, tap power
this will load download mode. If you can get it here you can reflash with odin and reinstall everything again.
try having the back cover off... plug the phone into a known working charger / cable with the battery in. let it sit for 10 secs, then quickly pull the battery out and plug the battery in (like half a second... just enough to disconnect the battery from the contacts) this should force the phone to turn on.
Its how i turn my nexus s on without a power button.

Could be the power button. This is a known issue and something similar happened to me. Turned phone off and wouldn't turn back on. Tried everything - just had to jam the power button. Had it replaced twice for that reason. I fixed my third by disassembling and cleaning and reseating power button.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Apparently the motherboard needs a change. And since I had bought it in a different region, the motherboard available here is not suitable.

Too bad! Maybe you can get one online. I found this one on ebay:
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=121053149092&index=3&nav=SEARCH&nid=59354008011
If you search a little bit more and in more places I'm sure you can find something. Or you can use this as an excuse to get a new phone!

You can't buy a motherboard none is selling them, if u want to fix ur phone u need to send it for repair to samsung or an alternative repair shop, but none of those 2 will sell u a mobo...
I was searching on ebay for some time and 2 ads i found were for dead motherboards and this in 4 months of searching. I mailed a dozen repair shops and they all decline to sell me a mobo or they didn't carry them at all
Anyway to repair ur phone by replacing the mobo will cost you 100-150$ ur better of buying a new phone for around 200$ cause the nexus s is too old and doesn't justify the repair / value / performance compare to other phones on the market right now
I have had this same problem and if my cousin finds out that this phone might be broken he will be upset. But i can change the motherboard, if i do will i lose all my data like music messages apps etc. ?

Hello all, android noob here
I'm an iphone user for years and quite unfamiliar with rooting, android cfws and bootloaders so please bear with me.
Last year i went to serve the army and i was borrowed a nexus S from a friend that wasn't using it.
I think it had the latest version of jelly bean installed 4.x.x and was never modded/rooted/no cfw installed.
The power button wasn't working so i was removing/re-inserting the battery to open it every time.
One day It froze, one of the numerous times it did actually, so i removed the battery to reinsert it but when i did and felt the vibrating sound
i had it upside down and battery fell off while it was booting.
The phone became completely unresponsive (power button doesn't work).. when i plug it to ac screen will start flashing randomly but it won't turn on/boot. It will heat up after some time though. Same through usb data cable. I remember it was once recognized by my windows 7 (?) laptop but as an unknown device and i couldn't do anything on it.
I really really REALLY need those photos in there Is there anything i can do now?
From reading these forums and correct me if i'm wrong i'm thinking doing some of the following:
a) jig / j-tag? but will i be able to save my photos this way or everythings gonna get wiped?
b) take it to a forensics company so that maybe somehow they can exctract data from the NAND inside?
c) remove (!) the nand buy a cheap used working nexus s remove that one's too and switch? lol?
Please help!
Hello.. You will definitely lose your photos if the bootloader is locked... Coz unlocking the bootloader erases your phone completely... I am really sad for your photos...

Thank you for the reply! Will a jig work for me? Is it worth it to purchase one? Or you have to have your bl unlocked?
Also if everything else fails i will desolder the surface mount nand SD chip buy a used i9023 nexus and solder it on that one. Since that whole process is a bit expensive though I want to be sure there is no other way to revive the phone AND keep the photos.
Also has anyone on here has the knowledge to tell me what odds approx do i have of succeding doing so? I dont want the phone just my pics.

Hi
Last week I had the problem with my Nexus 5 constantly rebooting on the "Google" logo.
I tried to find a way repairing the phone as I need the data I have on it. But I bought the phone on the Play Store and the LG warranty has ended because I had this phone since it came out.
So, I called Google and now a refurbished Nexus 5 is on it's way, and I have to send them back my phone that doesn't works. Now I need your help please, I want to know how can I recover the data on my older phone (I need to perform a nandroid, but the phone would last only 1 second inside the bootloader).
I thought swapping motherboards could work, but there's many things:
1- Am I going to have any problems with the IMEI ?
2- Does a Nexus 5 without it's adhesive in the inside at the bottom means "warranty void" to them ?
3- It is better to swap motherboards and make a nandroid then putting back my motherboard on the broken phone or just swapping motherboards and keeping my motherboard in the new phone ?
Thank you for helping me. Don't hesitate to answer me more information if you need or if my english is too bad.
As soon as you open the phone warranty is void. You most likely have a stuck power button on the problem phone. Try mashing the crap out of it for a minute or two. If you can get it unstuck your problem is solved.
Thanks for answering
I already tried to hit the power button for a long time, then hard enough to try unstucking it. I even broke the thin piece of plastic below the sim tray. But I did this before I realized the phone wouldn't try to start at all if it wasn't connected to the AC adapter. Then I saw a post from someone on reddit having the exact same issue, who replaced a defective part (he called this an integrated circuit) and has his phone working now.

I know this thread is a little aged, however I am starting to have similar issues and I also had the Nexus 5 since launch. How did you get a replacement out of warranty?
I recently picked up a broken Nexus 5. The logic board has been cracked by someone trying to repair the power button. It is totally dead. My question is: is there any way to determine if the screen is still working and if the battery will charge?

No, unless you want to somehow hotwire the display/battery to something else (which I don't recommend even trying), or putting them into another Nexus 5.
Hey guys,
I have a Witson Head unit that is bricked or something, it has only black screen and the backlights flash when press power button or reset button. I tried so far every way to recover the unit with no success.
A person from Witson sent me 2 files to update the unit but did not work. So he told me that I will need to replace the core board.
Is it something that I can do? It must be from the exactly same model and vendor or the core board are "generic" for all MTCD units? Just in case the core board from witson is more expensive than for others.
Thanks for your help.

Hi guys.
I bought KD Android 5.1 MTCD, 1024*600 car unit 3 month ago.
Unfortunately just after replacing the car battery (replace battery is sometimes with a number of small sparks) the unit completely dead, no screen, no power, no sound and it is not turned on at all that is bricked or something. I cannot see even the lollipop logo.
I tried so far every way to recover the unit with no success. It has only black screen and the backlights flickering when press power button or reset button.
The company say probably because of main board failure and suggest me finding someone to check the main board if it have any problem or not.
Would you please help me how I can check the main board?
Is it possible that main board have no problem and the core board have problem?
How do I find out the problem is related to the main board or the core board to order it?
Thanks a lot
