Unofficial custom recovery for Galaxy A3, built from source by me.

Flash at own risk!!!!
I take no responsibility for anything you do to your device. Flashing any custom recovery will trip KNOX.
Installation:
Your phone must be rooted to install TWRP!
Install using Flashify or "dd if=twrp.img of=/dev/block/platform/soc.0/by-name/recovery"
does it work?
I decided to take a chance and try this recovery. WORKS !!! Thank you very much
Confirm the action on the Samsung Galaxy A3 (SM-A300FU)
Installs fine, I go into the recovery but trying to install a .zip update (it contains a .tar.md5 file which in turn contains img files among others, got it off mega, looks legit) renders an error with no md5 file.
Can twrp install the .zip or is the zip incorrectly packed?

Try under settings in twrp: switch off check md5. But never heard that tar files are flashable.

Nah its cool I realise now I tried flashing an Odin .zip update as if it were a OTA update.zip type of .zip file. I'll just wait for someone to make an OTA flashable zip or get a hold of a PC and flash through odin.

This has become the preferred rooting method in absence of custom recovery. you could also flash Xposed for Lollipop while you're at Kitkat.

Sorry, how I should understand your comment about Xposed? Is this mean, I can root Lollipop BEFORE installing, by Xposed for Lollipop?
Please, explain.

In the absence of custom recovery for Lollipop rooting requires one to have a rooted Kitkat with custom recovery installed. Now to have Lollipop, we flash a flashable variant of Lollipop and THEN while we're still in recovery, we flash SuperSU. This is perhaps how you have a rooted Lollipop and most of us followed this process.
Since we now have Xposed for Lollipop, it can be flashed at the same stage when we flash SuperSU. So when we reboot the device, we have a rooted Lollipop with Xposed preinstalled.
Hope this clarifies any doubt.

I see, so this mean, we have only one chance to install some .zips thru recovery - after install Lollipop but before reboot?

You can flash this via adb to get custom recovery back:
http://pan.baidu.com/s/1mgHZuLM
Thank you for the link... would you mind explaining exactly what the file is and if it will work with a d838? I would love to have recovery for my LG Pro2 with Lollipop
Also how do you install a zip file using ADB? Any online guide I can find says you need to boot the phone into recovery first (which of course we dont have)

I couldn't contain my excitement so went ahead and installed the linked recovery. I installed adb on my pc, set my LG pro 2 to usb debugging, extracted the linked zip to my desktop and ran the .bat file. Within 20 seconds I had a custom recovery on my Lollipop
I haven't tried installing anything with the recovery yet - but it seems to be working so far with my 838 32g version.
Manny thanks!

And that's probably why mine doesn't work and I'm having so many problems with it... When I update to B324 I don't have a custom version showing up! Might this be because of the region my phone is originally from? Or is there an additional file that needs to be flashed to get this working properly?

So I went to flash, but of course it won't let me since I'm not rooted. I just went ahead and flashed the UPDATE_CUST.app after renaming it and it failed when it was factory resetting. I just don't know what else to do
I honestly never got this to work, so I disabled it, but it possible it only work with the huawei luancher I use apex so it can explain why it is not working for me.
Anyway I find this to be a gimmick which in the end only consume battery, sure it nice to be abe to crop pictures in real time but take screen shots with just using volume key and power key does work easy enough for me.
OMG @Zolocofxp... you're AWESOME!!!! It worked! After flashing the UPDATE_CUST.app failed at factory resetting I decided to take a look in About Phone to see if it in fact went through, the Custom Version had changed so I decided to flash the UPDATE_CUST.app one more time and it was successful. I then flashed B324 and factory reset AFTER. Low and behold, everything is there and WORKING!!! Hip hip hurray!!!!

You have this file for TL10 model? I tried flashing it using Huawei updater and after reboot to install it fails with error update.app not found. And is it supposed to be so small? I got a 17.8kB file from your link
As the title suggests this is a TWRP Backup of the stock 4.14.617.6 and 4.19.617.1 build.
Firmware 4.14.617.6 is suggested as ive not tried it with the old firmware 4.14.617.6 FIRMWARE ONLY HERE
Version 4.14.617.6 Available here TWRP November Build Nougat Rar file will need to be exracted
Version 4.19.617.1 provided by Zlebors - LATEST TWRP BACKUP from 1st Dec build OTA update - 4.19.617.1
Restore in TWRP's newest build.
ROOT
When rooting it causes one of the cores to stay on full power, SELinux needs to be changed to permissive to fix this (how to after root options.
2 options i have tried are....
SuperSU 2.79 systemless which works fine apart from passing safetynet (for me) just download and flash through recovery.
Magisk 10.2 systemless i have found the best for my use as i can hide root from banking apps.
Download the files from THE ORIGINAL MAGISK PAGE and follow the how to.
Changing Selinux to permissive
Again, you have 2 options.
APP - Easy to do just install the app and change to permissive, then set on boot. APK PAGE HERE
Via Script - Use ES File Explorer, on the left menu bar scroll down to Root Explorer and turn it on, allow root access. Navigate to device/magisk/phh and open service.sh with ES note editor. Add the line setenforce 0 under #!system/bin/sh then press back, save & close. Reboot the phone and you should now have SElinux set to permissive
If you want to flash it all yourself rather than restore a backup see THIS PAGE
If you want to flash using SDCARD
0PAIMG.ZIP Supplied by Florin to be flashed in download mode with the correct MID / CID
If you don't know how to restore a backup then make a backup of your current boot.img, open the TWRP>BACKUP>YOUR-DEVICE-NUMBER folder, delete the boot image and extract the files in my backup to said folder.

Make a backup of your current ROM and see. Personally I've never been S-ON so cannot say it'll 100% work but if you backup your current rom you can go back if you have issues
Thanks a lot for sharing this.
I used the restore backup method, worked on top of Viper 5.3 very well.
I have just two questions:
Is this the backup of a dev edition m9 ?
also, (if it is from dev edition) is my phone now basically a legit dev edition ?

This is a backup of the rom that was released for Dev Edition, restoring the backup will just give you the OS but if you used the method of flashing the developer Edition firmware then it is basically a Dev Edition device due to having the Dev CID and MID plus firmware
have 5.1 firmware
will It worki?
What variant would this be for?

Well done, it's workning under 3.35.xxx too, I've found only a root problem, Titanium backup don't see the root, other apps do it, including root checker
Anyway thanks a lot!

Root can be adding using superSU 2.78 SR5, ZIP is in post one or it's available from chainfires site.
Hopefully have a flashable zip for you all this evening

Yes I did it, and root checker say it's rooted, but Titanium Backup (even if SuperSu grant permission at TB startup) doesn't work and say that the system is not rooted.
Anyway good job man!
