Hey all..
Just got my second D800.. And I my tmo S4 has kick ass AT&T coverage but my D800 just is no where near as good..
Like - 15/-10db worse..
I opened my original D800 and tightened screws and such.. Like my S4 needed.. (once) and has been mint ever since..
My D800's.. Not so much..
Anyone have anything to share about their D801 and signal strength as compared to its D800 counterpart?
The D800 threads have people complaining about low signal strength.. Can't find a one in 801..
Thanks in advance.

D801 has a strong radio.
Have had a few of them but never 1 complaint.

Just posted in main lg g2 forum QA. just thought Id cover my bases here to. Can I install a stock Tmobile rom with kernel/radio/modem/ on to an unlocked At&t LG G2 and it work as if it were a Tmobile LG G2? I'll of course be using a tmobile simcard. Thanks for any info

I don't know the answer but my question would be why would you want to do that? I'm on T-Mobile and except for this T-Mobile G2 I have always used an unlocked AT&T phone on T-Mobile. I get 4G LTE and certainly in the case of the G2, it is rootable whereas the KitKat T-Mobile G2 cannot be rooted (easily) and there is no recovery. I think you would be losing more than you gain by going to the T-Mobile rom if it is possible. Having said all that I'd certainly be interested to see how you get on if you can do it.
In the beginning of my tmo service I brought my gs4 over and just had to change/add APN settings. Still had to use Verizon ROMs, but had tmobile service. I would assume it would be about the same.

i actually wanna know the opposite of this. I got a Tmobile G-2 and am using it on AT&t (AIO Wireless techinically), but im getting super slow speeds. My DL is 1.1 and UL is 1.4 somehow. I havent rooted it yet because i have to RMA it back to LG due to the dead spot on the lcd issue. So after i get it back do i just need to switch the radio modem out to get on the at&t bands? Also would att roms work on my phone (d801)?
Thanks in advance for the help guys.

Double check the APN settings just to be sure. Also check different location / different time of the day. The speeds you list are HSPA so it seems you are connecting fine. I am on H2O (an AT&T MVNO) with a T-Mobile G2 and just measured 6.2 DL / 1.3 UL.
Double checked my apn and I'm all good there. Are you using a different radio? I'm still using the stock tmobil radio. I haven't been able to figure out what the issue is.

Well, this is what happened when I tried to do that. Whether it was just a bad ROM, or the ROMs are different because of e.g. slight differences in radio frequencies, I don't know. I do know, I'll never do it again -- that was the first time I've bricked a phone since having flashed my first ROM on the original Android, the Dream/G1. But YMMV.
On the other hand, there are ways to install features specific to TMO like boot animation/sound, wifi hotspot authorization, the TMO account app, and enabling wifi calling, to help "brand" it more T-Mobile. That's what I'm working on right now, in fact.
So, I flashed CM11 today, and I'm not sure if it's just this specific rom or what (I had poweruser modified stock before) and it seems like my data speeds are really slow.
I had 5 bars with H+ (yes not LTE I know) but I was only getting 1 mb/s down speed.
Is there a baseband I can flash or some type of modem. Does anyone else have this issue?
Bump
Well,
I'm sorry that I can't exactly help your situation, But I can say that I am having a very similar issue. I am running D800 AT&T, CloudyStock V2.0 with dr87's Simple Kernel V5. Only have one APN, which the the Phone APN. Now, I do receive LTE, it also shows up on my phone as 4G.
I have also changed that lil bit in the Build.prop to my destination Country, which is US. But, anyway, After all of this I can only get maybe 2mbps downloads and if i'm lucky I will pull 1mbps upload.
I know for a fact that the LTE in my town is not that slow. I'm not really sure what is going on either.
Before I had CloudyStock on my G2 I could get around 11-12mps downloads with 4-5mbps uploads.
Sorry that I can't really help you out OP. I need help as well.
Since you mentioned, I have an AT&T with a T-mobile micro sim and the network signal (not data) has been very poor since I got the phone. Usually just 2 or 3 bars and completely lost the signal when I got down to the subway underground. I noticed that people were still using their phones while on the train so they could actually receive signals. I believe it's something to do with the sim but not for sure. I haven't had a chance to borrow anyone else's sim to try on mine so I couldn't really tell. I'm running CM 11 as well and I think the battery life has been reduced because of the weak network signal
Any help?
Hey guys,
So i just got my LG G2, rooted it, and threw CloudyG3 rom onto it. First, the LTE symbol isn't shown next to my signals at the top of my screen, and second, i always have low bars (at my house, in class). I'm using the D800 AT&T, but unlocked, so im using T-Mobile. Im using T-Mobile's 4G LTE APN, so i don't think that's the problem. I just kinda want reassurance that im using my phone's LTE by getting that symbol or something. I don't really know tbh, i just want my bars going to back up and assurance that im using my phone's full potential.
If there's something i can do that's safe, please comment.

Hello sir, (@^Castiel)
I can relate to your questions..
I have the D800 (AT&T variant) and flashed to the latest baseband/radio that I could find:
M8974A-AAAANAZm-1.0.190082
I have a T-Mobile S4 (M919) unlocked running on AT&T which seems to have *much* better signal than this device..
This device is *constantly* switching between 'H' (HSPA/HSPDA) and '4G' (LTE).
Whereas my M919 is pretty consistent, sticking with whatever the signal is.
I did find that I was having a massive wakelock which seemed to be related to FastDormancy which seemed to fix my batter drain..
HTH.
Below is the link from AT&T showing the latest version of the baseband:

Cloudyg3 doesn't have lte icons, only 4g, h+, h, 3g, e. Nothing is wrong with your phone. T-Mobile knows it's not their phone so your signal is weaker and you actually have less access to some of the towers. Try the T-Mobile Rom and you'll see the difference as it has the correct rtl files to let you use the full spectrum.
Hello! Apologies if I do some dumb mistakes forum-wise and pass as a total noon at this, cause I actually am! Anyway, here's my problem:
So a couple of weeks ago I tried CM12, an unnoficial CM12 by Beeto and CM11 by him too, I noticed a big major flaw with all of them, which made me go back to stock firmware... The cell signal sometimes is just very weak, and I'm experiencing this on the stock firmware too! I go look at battery>cell standby at the end of the day and I notice that it spends about 15% of time without signal, should this worry me? Its just that my friend's phones normally show "0%" or very very close in the same conditions! I'd like to know if there's a way to fix this in any way, either on the Roms I tried or the stock firmware (since I prefer custom Roms anyway)... I'll be waiting for a response! Thank you!
EDIT: My friends are reporting that my messages duplicate sometimes! Really need a fix for this, it's dumb :/
Also with an XT1039 here (rooted stock 4.4.4 w/ bb). Used a Samsung Galaxy Ace II before (CM11) and the signal has similar dropouts with both phones. Wondered if it was the firmware (on my old phone) but as far as I can tell (also tried my sim card with an old SonyEricsson V630) it is my service provider (E-Plus Germany). Moreover we have a pretty white (poor) provider coverage in Krautland (3G and LTE on E-Plus are basically only with full signal strength outdoors in major cities). So I guess nothing to worry about.
Weird issue I'm having on a G920i. In Settings -> About Device -> Status, the signal strength is being reported incorrectly. When I first boot the device, it will show accurately and will vary from -90 dBm to -100 dBm when I am at my house, which is consistent with every device I've ever owned. However, after 30-45 seconds, it will start reporting at "-113 dBm 0 asu" and it will simply stay there and will never change, even as I move about. The number of bars in the signal strength icon on the status bar will even change, but in the Status menu, signal strength simply stays at "-113 dBm 0 asu" permanently. Connectivity seems to be fine--I have no problems making calls, browsing the web, etc. The signal strength in the Status menu simply seems to revert to and stick at 113 dBm 0 asu with no explanation or other impact on the phone.
For what it's worth, I've tried both the New Zealand and Singapore AOD1 firmwares from Sammobile.com. Same problem on both. I'm on AT&T in the U.S.
Anybody else seeing anything like this?
Yes it seems both the g920i and g920f all have this problem. Every single device. Please get in contact with Samsung about it, the more people that complain the more likely it will be fixed.
@mupet0000 & @phositadc I've seen you guys in a few forums talking about the Galaxy S6 SM-G920I signal issues... Mine is the same! Swapped 2 phones already and they have awful lte reception... I was hoping a different modem/baseband would help but it looks like it doesn't....plus a few soft reboots as well what's going on? Have you guys experienced any reboots? Can this be fixed with a software update?
OK checked mine and its yes your right. -113 in status however if you type *#0011# in your dialer you'll see the better reception reported. Interestingly this did not happen when I was on the Cricket towers(At&t). I just switched to T-Mobile and I now have the -113 status. My speeds are great but I can't side-by-side compare the radios to anything to know if there is a real problem.

No reboots here. I flashed the aod3 modem last night and things seem a little better on AT&T. On the aod1 modem, I was not getting LTE in a bunch of places that I've always had LTE before. I know the g920i has frequency support for AT&T LTE bands, and I do get LTE, but I must say so far the experience has not been as good as other LTE phones I've had. Not sure if that's the modem firmware to blame or the hardware itself. Probably firmware.

Hey all, I'm in the UK and I have the SGS6 edge on the 3 network here. I use my phone for tethering at all times as I do not have wifi in the house. with my SGS5 before this I could easily run my PC , Tablet my son mobi and his gaming PC all at the same time with no issue. The S5 would run a full signal and load very quickly HD content.
My brand new S6 is disapointing singnal wise from straight out the box. I noticed my signal level fluctuating up and down but very rare dose it show a full signal level. and as for teathering I am finding it very hard to live with.
I will be suprised if Samsung sort this out with firmware. I just had a 150 MB firmware update yesterday and my signal level is the same.
I remember my Nokia N96 having this same fault, and although it was all over the internet back then, Nokia did nothing in all the firmware updates I had. I was going to sell my pristine 7 month old S5..... but I think I will hang on to it for now.
Hey guys, I am on the latest OTA released by Samsung (AOE3 built May 7th) and the problem is still not resolved. LTE signal still awful and LTE signal strength still -113. So far so bad. I have contacted Samsung again, and tomorrow I have a phone call with their support where they will remotely access my phone so I can show them the problem. I will show them and see how it goes, and I'll report back here.
I will make it clear to them that the signal strength is worse than my 2 year old S4, and I will demonstrate the incorrect signal strength value to the support agent. If they tell me it's a non issue or they make some silly excuse instead of investigating, I will simply sell the S6 and get another phone.
This is a huge issue and I'm disappointed that there aren't many people noticing this or reporting it to Samsung. The more popular the S6 gets, the more people will notice that their old phone holds a better signal.

I think it is a widespread issue... I always have 1 bar lte and under my signal status it say - 113dbm which is zero service... It never moves... I'm gonna try custom rom and see if that help but it obviously a antenna/modem baseband issue... Also someone mentioned it could be because the Galaxy S5 uses Cat 4 lte and the S6 uses Cat 6.....its very disappointing! Hopefully it gets fixed or I'll return to the S5...i really want to like this phone..... But Samsung is making it hard to
I don`t think there is anything wrong with the signal. even if I only have 1 bar the phone is perfect during calls and my LTE/4G download speed is even over the provided speed my carrier provides, I think it`s just a bug that it`s showing less signal then what it actualy has.

This is true. It's simply a bug that shows the wrong signal strength - mine shows -113 but I'll have 3 bars so that makes no sense. However, if you ARE getting a bad signal, that is a different issue altogether.
(btw I started a thread about this already several weeks back)
Spoke to Samsung on the phone, they didn't need to remote access my phone to see the issue. They had an S6 in their office and they told me they saw the signal at -113dBm just like mine. They say they have passed this onto the relevant team and hopefully it will be fixed in an OTA and I should stick to the United Kingdom BTU firmware (the correct firmware for my region).
We will see if this gets resolved. They definitely know about the problem now and have seen it with their own eyes, so I'm hopeful.

Ok.. Thanks... I already read through that thread too... Been trying to figure out if it was just me or alot of people..... Seems like the 920f is getting more updates that us.... 920I......The latest is AOD3 right? Today I'm gonna flash a custom rom for 920f and see if there is any change....
*edit* just checked Samsung live update... AOE3 was just released for 920I for TTT I guess is a country called Trinidad and Tobago... But that is the firmware I've been using.... Hopefully this will help... Let Ya guys know
*edit #2*...ok guys just updated to AOE3.... Bars still show low but the signal status is working and it's showing that I have a better signal than with *#0011*... The - dbm and asu is now extremely close to my S5... So in conclusion the signal is strong it just doesn't show it in the bars like previous Galaxy's
