Hi
I have a sony Z(lte version). My network is very slow on hspda and I don't want to use lte(4g).
So only option is hspa+ which has good speed.
The problem is everywhere in network related options you can set wcdma only. not hspa+. Wcdma is for both hspda and hspa+.
I've seen many threads about wcdma/lte switching and know about *#*#4636#*#* menu. But in that menu, there's no way to seperate hspda from hspa+.
Is there any way to use hspa+ only? A way to disable hspda would be good too.
Thank you for reading my question.

I think that when you enable the wcdma option, (which is what I do very frequently too) the phone tries to use the best, between hspa and hspda, so if it doesn't use it, it's probably not the phone's problem, since I get to use h+ whenever I use the wcdma only option...
This is what I think that happens, I am not sure whether this is the truth ot not, so another opinion would be usefull.
Why do you not want to use LTE?
Well it might not be available + using lte drains a lot of battery...

as moki said, it's not an option in my home because of poor network quality.also drains battery too fast to use regularly.

I thought like this before. but I saw sometimes in worst conditions of network, it prefers h+. So I think its just a way to save battery and if I don't want it, I can disable it somehow...
its network dependent.. you cant force it.. its still 3g anyway.
Please someone answer.
There are two features on my phone, I want ine of them removed, and this is not possible?!
I can't believe this is true in an android phone.
*sigh*

My office has an 850 abnd ATT mini cell installed in our server room. The tower was installed because we were getting bad blackberry coverage which are all Edge models. I happen to sit directly outside of the server room and am about 15 feet from the mini cell tower. My Fuze is insistent on using the 850 2G connection instead of getting a 3G signal. I am in downtown Chicago which has fairly decent 3G coverage. I am on the 50th floor of the ATT building but I can't get ATT 3G service! I can go down to lower floors and I have no problem getting 3G. I can only assume my phone is being told "hey, I have a killer 2G signal, lets use that!"
I am able to disable 3G by using com manager. Does something similar exist for disabling 2G? Is there something I can do when I am at work to not use the 850 band? Unfortunately, moving is not an option.
You can enable the 'band select' part of the phone options, and lock it to WCDMA
As I recall, the registry entry to do so is:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting]
"ShowUMTSBandPage"=dword:00000001
Att uses cdma?
I do believe Da_G just had a bad mental picture of the screen he's talking about.. The page in question is not page you'd tend to visit frequently
Top drop down: Auto, GSM, WCDMA
Bottom drop down: Band selection
I don't The exact options for whats in "Band selection" but it lets you force the phone to use only certain frequencies... The only problem I see is, I do believe AT&T uses the same frequencies for 2g and 3g... or at least depending on what area you're in, 3G might be on 850, or it might be on 1900.. so you travel a bit and your 'force 3g' doesn't work anymore... i'm too tired right now to figure out if your phone would still work in such a situation... I think so >.>
I already had the band select reg key applied. I changed the phone options from auto to WCDMA.
I am seeing an H instead of E but I am not seeing HSPDA speeds. It "feels" like I am on a 2G connection. One speed tst did show 483kbut/sec but I am use to seeing 1200-1500 when I have true 3G.
I know ATT uses different bands in Chicago for 2G and 3G. If they start using 850 for 3G like BG reported then my problem will dgo away.
I just want to stream Cubs games from my MEdiaCenter while im at work... is that so much to ask? Need at least 768 to get a decent picture.
Sounds like you need to enable the Advanced Network tool, and turn on HSUPA

Your typical "GSM" carrier uses Wideband CDMA (W-CDMA) technology for 3G.
The correct answer is NO att does not use cdma. lol
What kind of answer was that anyway? "typical?" hahahha
(ok work time! this 5e isnt gonna install itself
hi
just used bandswitch and change to UMTS then do a solf reset
and u will have 3g. it work for me.
this is the link i have for u.

Herro! first time poster, long time lurker! i searched around, and couldn't really find a similar problem.
I got an HTC one S from Fido, unlocked it, and i've been trying to use it on Bell. I tried several different APN's until one finally worked...but only EDGE speeds! It's also draining my battery extremely quickly. also, when i put my bell sim card inside, preferred network mode changes to WCDMA instead of HSPA (like on the fido sim).
why is this happening? i was told a fido phone would work on bell with no problem. why no 4g speeds?
thank you and i appreciate the responses in advance
HSPA uses WCDMA, so that makes no sense... Under preferred network you should have WCDMA only, 2G only, or WCDMA preferred if I recall correctly as I'm not on stock HTC rom atm so can't check. Are you getting an "E" signal indicator or are you just getting a slow connection? What does it say under About phone>Status>Mobile Network Type?
Set it to Auto mode in the network settings.

yeah, all the tech support i've talked to said it makes no sense either . i get the same outcome whether i put it on WCDMA only or GSM/WCDMA auto. when i do the speed test, it always comes out under 1 mb/s. it actually has the 4G symbol up, but the speed isn't there.
mhmm, it switches between UMTS and HSDPA.
If you have UMTS and HSPDA under status its working, and those are also what connection you're really on. If you always have a 4g icon on status bar it seems like your carrier has modded the software like T-Mobile USA does so it always shows 4g no matter what's up in the real world.
Maybe you're not in a good location and that's why you get slow data. Also I have no idea how Canadian carriers work but I'd guess if you're connected to a 850 MHz cell you'll get worse speeds than on a 1700/1900 one. Don't you guys have insane data caps everywhere, perhaps you hit yours when speedtesting?
did you try a new sim from bell
Has anyone found a way to tell the radio to allow 3g or better connections?
My carrier has crappy voice quality over 2G and during the N4 days I used to set 3G only.
Now with the Nexus 5 I don't want to loose LTE connectivity, so I'm looking for a way to tell the modem to use UMTS or LTE connections only.

I don't believe there is any mod for this as of yet. You'd have to lock to wcdma (hspa+) or leave it as is with edge/wcdma/lte. The only other thing i could think of is some sort of apn configuration to achieve your desired result. You would have to speak with technical support of your carrier to see.
Hope this helps
Is there a way to see and change the LTE BAND that my phone is on? Rogers support aws, 2600, 700. So I was wondering if I could manually change between them. The S5 has that option in the hidden menu, so I'm hoping I could do the same on this one.
Thanks.
The phone choose the band himself, if he don't find bands authorized by your phone company, he can't use them.

*#*#46363#*#* > Phone information > Set Preferred Network Type > 'LTE/GSM auto (PRL)'
That's as far as you can get in telling it what network to operate on. It won't let you select specific bands (at least not stock). Mine was set to 'TD-SCDMA, GSM and LTE' out of the box (international version) and since I don't plan to use my phone in China anytime soon, it didn't make sense for the phone to waste resources searching for a TD-SCDMA (China's homebrew 4G) signal. Haven't noticed much improvement to my LTE signal though, still the weakest radio I've seen in a 'flagship' in a while.
Thanks.
I am also on Rogers.
Does that mean when I am on the phone, it will revert to EDGE instead of 3g by using the LTE-edge setting?
I have major issues with reception on this phone.
LTE Works Fine but the 3G/H+ signal is awful, absolute disaster on this phone. It is extremely, extremely weak. And I lose coverage often and over 50% of the times my calls go straight to voicemail because Rogers uses 2g/3g for calling. The phone can't drop back to 2G or 3G in time to receive calls when on LTE
Rly frustrating. Have tried playing with all the settings.

I'm having issues with 3G H+ too. Dont know its CM issue or not coz I had nice H+ signals on Color OS...
Can't even use internet data. most of the time network drops after using internet for a bit.. Network just suddenly gone and after that it comes back with no internet. Internet comes back online after a while...
Really worried.. and annoyed coz can't seem to find any solve for this. Even Mahdi rom had this issue..
Hello everyone.
I have a question since I've got my s6. Can you force the phone to only connect to LTE or 3G network only? Because in the network option: the only preferences available are:
-4G/3G/2G
-3G/2G
-3G Only
-2G Only
So what I want is an option like 4G/3G because I'm forced to go to the settings every time I want to have 4G because my phone always connect to 2G, so when I am in a poor signal area, I have to put 3G Only.
I don't want a toggle. I just want to change the network preferences. My phone run XtreSoLite and Xposed is installed.
Thanks guys

OH that's strange, I'm on Tyrannus rom 28.1 and have the option for lte only. Maybe just the rom or your network provider.

Oh I'm sorry you didn't understand.
I don't want LTE Only. I want a network preference that is "3G and LTE". Not just 3G only or 4G/LTE only.
Thanks

Ah right, tbf I don't think I've seen this option on any phone I've owned.
Reason being if you go into a 2g area and you only have 3g/4g then your phone will not pick up a signal

I agree with that but in my city. All the areas are at least cover by 3G connection so I can afford it.
It's juste that my S6 always connect to 2G while they are 3G connection, because when I select "3G only", it works.
My post is there just to ask if anyone know about a tweak that can select only 3G and 4G.
Thanks guys
