My s6 sucks bad - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have to restart it everyday or the lag becomes unbearable. I took some screen shots of when it starts lagging bad and I barely have any ram not being used. I'm stock, uprooted. I've disabled all bloated ware.

On the edge forum they discussed was of improving battery unfortunately it's lots in the see of battery reports http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=60959710
I think they turned off Google now ran greenify and disabled any bits of the phone they deemed not to be used .
It's better but until Google and Samsung both sort out their bugs some apps will still differ lag.
I my self now only notice lag in flipboard and Google chrome
Only when scrolling on some pages not all

Get rid of clean master and 360 security. Any apps that say they speed up your phone or provide anti virus etc Slooooow them down.,
There is zero lag on mine, barring on some web pages and bad apps.

Okay so... Since deleting clean master and the 360 virus thing, it seems like my phone is running way faster but I'm not sure yet..

these two apps runs in the background all the time...that's why they are causing some issues....and yes don't trust the "make your phone faster".....the fastest it can be is when it's new and fresh without apps

Download greenify app from oasis feng in play store and greenify/hibernate most apps installed except maybe WhatsApp, FB and Viber if u use them as if they're greenified, they won't get synced unless u open them! U should get more than 30mins+ improvement!
I suggest using a custom launcher like Apex or Nova as well. TW launcher is just abysmal!

Try installing the newest android system webview.
It's newer than the play store, once I installed, all my lag problems disappeared.

I can't check this right now, since at work I get no data anyway, but I already installed Fast for FB as an alternate, and ready to test this out. If it works that would be great, the data dropping in killing me.
I did the same thing. I noticed my data crashed repeatedly while in the Facebook app. Uninstalled, created a homescreen shortcut to the website. Works beautifully.
Just did it, and it seems to be much better, thanks. Installed Fast for FB as my FB app.

The Facebook App, or the Facebook website through the browser? In my case, I've had an issue with both. I have since given up on the Facebook app all together and just use a bookmark to the Facebook page. Anytime I would get the browser blank-white page, I would force-close the browser app and log back in. Typically would do the trick.
I flashed the new ICS radio and I don't seem to be getting data drops anymore

Chrome browser heats up phone

I've been monitoring my temp on my nexus 5 and notice that chrome browser would heat up about 20 degrees more comparing to Firefox, dolphin and opera. I almost get about the same type of heat while playing a game.
I've tried it with stock, Franco, faux and elementalx kernel. And got similar results.
It does run smooth but I miss my aosp browser with text reflow...

I noticed this too. I see that the CPU runs on max speed when chrome is open.
Yeah Chrome destroys the battery as well. Idk what's up with it. I hope there's a update here soon.

Google needs to restore the old aosp webkit code in 4.4. The new chromium webview is so inefficient. Ditch chrome for android and update the old aosp webview to the latest version of webkit and v8.

Really? Chrome pegs the CPU to max value? If true that is pretty ****ty of Google. It sounds like something an OEM would do to "fix" their weakest point, which for Google is seriously Chrome's lagginess. Sounds like one of those "features" that would get turned off in an update after all of the reviews are in.
Gonna have to test this out.
Good thanks guys, I figured I'll get slam for posting this. But at least now I know I'm not alone. It really feels like with the nexus 5 they are really trying to push Google stuff down our throat.
Just like the YouTube and Google plus integration.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I can confirm that Chrome does not peg the CPU to max value. It certainly seems like it ramps up the CPU higher than is necessary, but its not "cheating" like Samsung does for benchmarks in any way.
The Nexus 5, for me, heats up no matter what I do. 5 minutes of youtube produces noticeable heat, as does facebook and many other apps. Personally, I would suggest you set the max CPU freq lower and see what happens. Personally, I do not mind the heat that much, as it does not seem to detrimentally affect the battery life.
I've been using Firefox and find the phone gets warm and drains the battery fairly quickly. I have it set up to sync, are you using sync options on your chrome?

I did think about it for a minute. Nexus 5 without stock Android browser and YouTube integrated with Google plus is kinda like pushing us to use the service they want us to use. Which Google normally don't do. What I like about android was the freedom. I aware this will change with custom roms but its the direction it is going.
And I didn't mention other people app? Not sure if you realized stock android browser and YouTube is own by Google.

Android antivirus useless??

I have read an article from a website claiming that Android antivirus are useless since all Abdroid apps run within a sandbox and this greatly hinders antivirus from fully function. Is this valid claim? I thought the apps can function beyond sandbox to certain extent as long as they ask me permissions.

Linux is self secured in that users do not have permission to run applications for which the permissions do not allow. For example normal users cannot access configuration files. Root access is required. In order to install or change applications root access is also required.
Don't need anti-virus app on your android mobile.
Just remember don't install the app from non-play market.
And note that the permission before installing.
And you can always try applications from XDA. we are trusted people

True. I think XDA apps are as reliable as play store apps since apps on XDA gets constant feedbacks from other developers.
However, that also means that, just like playstore apps, I should be aware of relatively new and unpopular apps.

Would not even trust all apps from play store as google is not checking them before adding to the store. so they might be harmful as well... Hence, XDA apps are even trustworthier I would say :good:
During my years of Android experience. I have never heard of any Android phone getting a virus?
If you have anti-viruse softwares on your device. The only thing that'll do is slow your device down and restrict you to certain content.
So yes. Android anti viruses are useless.
If I helped, don't hesitate to hit that Thanks button

And seriously... there is already not a lot of viruses developp on linux, so on android...
There's no way an app could infect your phone when you aren't rooted, so Anti Virus on Android is useless.
Even if you are rooted, when you don't download the most obscure apks, chances are nihil you get a virus (or otherwise harmed). If you don't fully trust an apk, you than screen it using googles apk installer. It doens't slow down your device and works good.
Thanks for the insight

It can happen
Just recently, a friend got a virus on her Galaxy S6 from browsing via Chrome to her local CrossFit site, which is as follows:
http://brandonevenson.com/
Just downloaded ESET Mobile Security & Antivirus to give it a test run.
Thoughts?
Antivirus apps are all just gimmicks and completely useless also often causing more problems mainly by drastically hindering performance. A real computer virus is just impossible on a Linux based system like android because the nature of androids architecture isn't a comfortable environment for viruses to run quietly and stealthily and would take the most intense development Google longs for and for what some nerds contacts and porn browser history? The only thing close to a virus is maybe malware which then is no more than popup ads and such. So ask yourself who to worry about when so many antivirus apps are deceiving millions of people...

Google Chrome not smooth

A few days ago I bought an Asus Zenfone 2 for my mum and I realised how smooth chrome is on that phone compared to the S6. Anyone else having this issue where chrome isn't really running at 60fps?
Especially when opening and closing tabs, my S6 just drops frames all the time. I'm on 5.0.2 if it matters.
probably something to do with the extremely poor ram management on the S6, as chrome is known to be a resource hog. Zenfone 2 on the other hand has 4GB of ram.
It's not the high end zenfone, it's the dual core version with only 2gb of ram
Sent from my SM-G920I using Tapatalk
Try to enable Developer options and raise to 1.5x or 2x each of the three animation settings.
The length of the animation doesn't help anything. I'll post a slow mo video later. The S6 just drops frames so often.

As you can see, the S6 drops so many frames compared to an entry level phone.
Installing the latest 'Android system web view' made chrome smooth on my phone.
I did. Version 45+ for arm and arm64. Didn't help at all
Sent from my SM-G920I using Tapatalk
Ok, today I made a quick browsing session with Chrome, paying attention to smoothness, and can't really say to see something wrong.
I mean, I come from a OnePlus One that was very smooth (custom ROM and kernel) and my S6 is around 99% of that performance.
The heavy debloating I made might help, though.
I also have this lagg in chrome, but i must say its only on resource heavy pages (lots of pictures, adds, banners etc.).
I will reset my device in a few days. Went to the Samsung store and checked out their display units. Some seem to suffer from it while others don't. My phone is also pretty bloat free, only about 3 pages of apps.

If you have couple of web pages that need Javascript you can add them to exceptions in settings. But if you visit mainly those pages that necessarily need javascript then this solution is not good.

Difference between freezing and removing apps?

If you freeze something, and it's actually critical does it unfreeze itself to keep things smooth?
Just can't figure out other then that what the difference is or could be...
Just by freezing apps did not start and show....but exists in memory...
And if deleted it frees some space ... [emoji9] [emoji10] [emoji6]

So, for debloating, are you any worse off removing things then you are freezing them?
I was thinking freezing was the safer, save your butt in a bad situation route.. But if it's essentially the same, does it matter?

freezing is actually safer in case you want to freeze a system app
I tried with play services and play store... When unfrozen all the data had still been deleted as if I disabled it the regular way... So freezing didn't even save it's current state...
