[Q] Honor 3 Outdoor UI - General Questions and Answers

Hey,
I consider buying the Huawei Honor 3 Outdoor, I've seen a previous thread were users stated that the Emotion UI has been updated several times.
I have 3 questions about it: First of all, how is the latest UI? (If you could please refer to battery endurance)
Second question: which languages does it support? I reckon that only chinese and english, if that's true, how can I add different languages for texting, contacts etc? (The UI itself can be in english)
Third and last: Have the update had being issued by air (lets say like Sony's) or will I need to find it myself on the web?
Thank's a lot!

HTC Diamond ordering / Language

Hello all, and thank you very much for this very instructive forum.
I plan to buy a new mobile phone and am quite tempted by the new HTC Touch Diamond.
I've found several offers, but they do not each propose the exact same version of the phone. I've found (at least) 4 different versions : "UK", "NL", (on CloolBlue) "EU, English", "French" (on Expansys). Since the price and/or the delivery date differ, I'd like to know what are the other differences between these versions.
As their naming indicates it relates to the language (and maybe the country), but will the phone be different? As far as I can imagine, the difference might be:
- with the manuals (paper)
- hardware: ?
- software: the menu of the system
- software: the software keyboards (accented letters?!)
- software: the dictionaries (T9...)
- other?
Could anybody with experience of HTC products explain what are their habits in this area?
On another hand, as far as the differences are only software, in which extend is it possible to change it after (menus, keyboards, dictionnaries...)?
Thank you in advance.
one that is quad band would be nice.....
In my experience, only the software will differ. I mean the used language in standard apps and settings, menu's and dialogs. Things as T9 dictonaries will be almost certain available in many languages.

OK, no problem for me having menus and dialogs in another language (I even prefer having them in English). But I'm more concerned by the SIP and the T9, since I'll type a lot of messages in French. Let's assume T9 are available in several languages. What about the SIP, does it support all languages (especially as far as the special characters (accented letters...) are concerned)?
And, if not, my next question is: How easy is it to change the SIP? (I mean replacing the native (Diamond) English keyboard by a native (Diamond) French keyboard.)
Since I'm completely new to HTC/WM, I don't even know if (and how) it's feasible.

ROM and language support

Hello everyone,
I am planning to buy an HTC Magic in the next two weeks. I read a lot about ROMs, but they all only seem to support USA English as language. I live in a rather rarely seen country on this forum, the Netherlands. I would like to know if it's possible to root my Magic with the Hero Rosie rom (thanks haykuro) and still keep the DUTCH language.
2nd questions:
Does Rosie support bluetooth OBEX? This is an essential feature for me...
Some additional information:
I'm not a noob to modding at all, I've been modding SE phones for about 3 years now, I design a lot of themes, menus, UI tweaks and flash animations for them.
I've read anything that's on the forum (especially in the Dream threads) and i basically know everything now, ADB, root, ROM, ADP, emulator, apk, signing, etc etc.

Draxter

1. You keep the org. rom when rooting, and can make a backup of it with Nandroid - so you can allways return.
1b. Then you apply the rom you want - and then you only get the languages thats in the rom you choose.
2. Can´t answer that one.
Thanks for your answer, that clears out a lot.
I have only seen English, German, French and Italian... is there a possibility to add Dutch to a ROM on my own?
Hi,
I have smartphone france Rom and it has dutch included
http://wiki.smartphonefrance.info/Default.aspx?Page=firmware-htcmagic&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1
here is the direct link to the rom
http://android.smartphonefrance.info/firmware/magic-13.zip
Maybe it's already available in original european rom
Thank you for your reply I can order a very cheap Magic today I will definately try that smartphone france ROM. My Magic will be VOdafone branded... I find flashing ROM pretty scary but we'll see Having those sexy Hero widgets sounds cool
Well, I was scared at first also but now I realized that's ok, cause I can go back to the original firmware
Maybe Dutch is already included in european version

FOUND !!! working Traditional Chinese Input Method Editor

After much scouring the forums here & everywhere and trawling the web, today I finally found a working app that allows for Traditional Chinese pinyin input.
The app is "QQ pinyin input (mobile edition)" - literal translation - and you can get it from this website url, http://mobile.qq.com/py/ . The download is a cab file. There is an Android version if you are an Android phone owner. Also a version for Symbian phone users.
This app is currently in beta 1 and is FREE. Usually I would give beta app a miss but decided to give it a go after stumbling on it.
The actual download page is http://mobile.qq.com/py/download.jsp . I am using the 1180Kb "enhanced" version although HD/HD2 is not listed in the device supported. The difference between the standard and professional edition - I called it "enhanced", is in the number of words/phrases in the dictionaries. The professional edition has a larger set.
And it did not disappoint me ! It is a breeze to use.
I sent off a CHT sms to a Samsung UltraTouch S8300 (SEA) phone which was later forwarded back to me. The message was not altered in anyway. I saw for myself the message on the Samsung UltraTouch. It turned out beautiful.
Another CHT sms was sent to my bro-in-law in Taiwan who has a phone that displays squares if the message is in Simplified Chines (CHS). I will report back later on this when I get confirmation on receipt of my CHT sms.
I have not discover any adverse effect other than uninstalling the app which I did for testing. There was a bit of a lag during uninstall. Also, after rebooting from the uninstall, the backlight options for "On battery power" and "On external power" were both adjusted to 100% ! Not sure whether was it because prior to the uninstall, I did a couple of screen capture via pocket XNView which I had to forcibly terminate as there was no option to exit pocket XNView. Anyhow, I don't plan to uninstall it till the final version is released unless it really messes up.
FYI, neither did I install any other font nor is my HD2 on any cooked ROM.
Thanks for reading.

Ok, I got comfirmation from Taiwan that the CHT text messages I sent were readable. No abnormalcy reported.
More Traditional Chinese pinyin IME available .
The IME from the 2 Chinese big names had exactly the same interface. I read on the web that both are fighting to provide bigger, better and more diverse word/phrases databases.
(v1.4)

(beta)

Advice : Go for v1.4 from SoGou if you are not too keen on beta apps. I'm sticking with QQ Pinyin input. I like their interface.

Came across 2 much earlier threads - mine was quite similar to one of them - that mentioned QQ mobile input. I am acknowledging and crediting their discoveries here.

Can you either repost the links or up load the ime file (I assume it does simplified too?)... the interface looks nice, I use sogou at the moment and sometimes touchpal... but this one looks nice...

Done. Just needed to prefix the links with "http://". Was and still a newbie, had no power then to post clickable link but just got my status revised after posting the 10th post.
I am on WWE rom and the default is Simplified Chinese. In the menu settings of QQ mobile input, there is an option to enable/disable CHS/CHT the input mode. See the 2nd from last screen capture, capture007.jpg.
Which TouchPal version are you using ? The interface is really nice and looks easy to use as well. It was my first choice but had hesitated and decided not to install it as they were user complaints in TouchPal forum and CooTek admittted that Traditional Chinese input is problematic in TouchPal v4 if one is running WinMo 6.5.
That led me to a 3 month 'worldwide' search for a switchable Simplified/Traditional Chinese pinyin input, fumbled on the below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611894&page=2
that upset me a little, later found the CHS/CHT IME, tested it and decided to join the forum, create a new post and share.

a NEVER-solved-problem: SMS encoding/decoding or character set

Hi,
This is a great great problem in my country without a solution yet:
Turkish characters are not shown in the recieved SMSs. Instead of them only a space there.
For example:
written by another phone and sent to android: "yoğurt yiyorum şu anda"
the recieved message: "yo urt yiyorum u anda"
The phones which are bought from Turkey and not flashed a custom rom don't have this problem.
They (actually, all the phones those are sold here, in Turkey) have an expression on their boxes: “This device is in accordance with ETSI TS 123.038 V8.0.0 (or the code of the subsequent version) and ETSI TS 123.040 V8.1.0 (or the code of the subsequent version) technical features that include all the Turkish characters.”
I think, the custom ROMs are not in accordance with these standards.
I have two android phones at the moment: a Galaxy Spica i5700 (bought from Turkey), and a Nexus S (which I bought from US).
Spica had the Turkish characters first. But I have rooted and flashed the phone, so lost the characters. Since I don't have the original ROM, I can not get them back...
Until here, I tried to describe the problem.
Now I will give what I have that can help to solve the problem:
1- ETSI links: They are not the exact versions but the closest that I could find.
ETSI TS 123 038 V8.3.0
ETSI TS 123 040 V9.2.0
2- An Original Turkish ROM: it's for Galaxy S i9000
http://www.multiupload.com/ZCLE3EOPWH (it's a PIT file)
It will be a great favor if anyone can solve this problem...
Thanks in advance,
Erkam
This is not in the wrong section right?
If yes, plese help me correct it...
By the way,
any piece of information about the problem is wellcome
doesn't anyone got any idea on the subject?
I am ready to work on it but someone should show me the way

I think you are possibly doing this in the wrong area. I think that if you want traction with a change like this, that you would need to do one of three things.
1) Contact maintainers or on the boards of a ROM you like to use (Cyanogen, etc)
2) Try to get it noticed by Google on their official Bug Tracker and Feature Request Tracker for support in stock Android OS
3) Code the fix yourself, Cyanogen source and "AOSP" stock android are available, and introducing character-set capabilities into the messaging app aren't exactly trivial things, however, with time and dedication I am sure it is possible.
I agree that foreign character coding out of stock Android isn't always there, or if it is, it isn't universal across all of the stock applications (like your example of SMS/Messaging application). Does this do this also in GoogleVoice? Or maybe you don't have access to Google Voice since you are outside of the US.
First, I want to thank you a lot for spending your time to answer
I tried your second advice but did not get a solution, yet. Still waiting.
I wanted to try the 3rd one too, actually. But I need to gain more computer/coding skills to achieve that. I could not even find an understandable guide to learn (or maybe I am too noob to understand).
So, the remaining advice is the first one and I am going to take it immediately
As you said, since I am outside of the US, I do not have access to Google Voice, unfortunately.
But, if it is ok for you, I can send a message to your google voice to check it.
by the way, ofcourse, it is not only a problem of Turkey, but also Spain, France etc.. I could not find a solution in their forums, neither.
Thanks again, for your help.

[Q] NA Nokia Lumia 900 (Windows Phone Mango) - Adding Languages

I apologize for not being able to post in the appropriate thread, but I am following these instructions for adding not-officially-supported languages for the Nokia Lumia 900 device that I purchased with AT&T.
I have succesfully flashed my desired languages (Finnish and Norwegian) to be included with the already included English and Spanish languages. I didn't update the core OS, and left it at 7.10.8112.7.
However, as expected, there are some "bugs". Really I have only noticed two.
Nokia Scout tells me when I open it (translated): "Scout isn't available in this land or in this region". This may be app-related and I frankly don't think I care too much about Scout since I don't know what it is.
My second problem is more bug related and problematic to me. The "nokia blue" theme does not appear in the list of themes for the windows phone. Thus, when switching to one of the two new languages, the theme gets defaulted to purple, but apps with live tiles think it should use green. Manually selecting a theme fixes the problem, but I really would like nokia blue.
Is this possbly related to outdated language files? If so, how can I download the latest language files?
Hi,
I got your email and I'll answer here so others can see too. The problem with Local Scout is that it's not available in Finland. Be sure to set only Display Language to Finnish and leave others as US. That way those apps *should* work. (Also needs US Live ID) The second problem is that accent colors are language based, so you cannot fix it. It will only work on languages that the Lumia 900 came with.

I noticed the Lumia 900 is started preorders today in Finland.
Is it possible I can flash the nordic ROM or something once someone gets it?

That might be possible, but since the European version of the Lumia 900 has different hardware so you might loose 4G and maybe 3G too.
