[Q] NA Nokia Lumia 900 (Windows Phone Mango) - Adding Languages - General Questions and Answers

I apologize for not being able to post in the appropriate thread, but I am following these instructions for adding not-officially-supported languages for the Nokia Lumia 900 device that I purchased with AT&T.
I have succesfully flashed my desired languages (Finnish and Norwegian) to be included with the already included English and Spanish languages. I didn't update the core OS, and left it at 7.10.8112.7.
However, as expected, there are some "bugs". Really I have only noticed two.
Nokia Scout tells me when I open it (translated): "Scout isn't available in this land or in this region". This may be app-related and I frankly don't think I care too much about Scout since I don't know what it is.
My second problem is more bug related and problematic to me. The "nokia blue" theme does not appear in the list of themes for the windows phone. Thus, when switching to one of the two new languages, the theme gets defaulted to purple, but apps with live tiles think it should use green. Manually selecting a theme fixes the problem, but I really would like nokia blue.
Is this possbly related to outdated language files? If so, how can I download the latest language files?

Hi,
I got your email and I'll answer here so others can see too. The problem with Local Scout is that it's not available in Finland. Be sure to set only Display Language to Finnish and leave others as US. That way those apps *should* work. (Also needs US Live ID) The second problem is that accent colors are language based, so you cannot fix it. It will only work on languages that the Lumia 900 came with.

I noticed the Lumia 900 is started preorders today in Finland.
Is it possible I can flash the nordic ROM or something once someone gets it?

That might be possible, but since the European version of the Lumia 900 has different hardware so you might loose 4G and maybe 3G too.

How can I read Chinese on HD2?

Hi, I recently got a HD2 and I've realized that it can't display Asian (specifically Chinese) characters. Everything comes up as blocks....I'm just wondering if there's a way to get around this? Is there any way to make it so the HD2 is capable of showing the Chinese characters? Thanks in advance
As far as I know, you need to flash a ROM that handles double-byte characters. My Hong Kong HD2 has an English interface, but also can read/type chinese characters.
I found the official English Asian version of the ROM at HTCPedia here, which is probably what you need.
search for a SUNGLOBE PATCH. then it will display it. even does japenese characters.
good luck!
Look for sunglobe.cab for a quick installation. This is only for viewing chinese characters; japanese characters will not be shown, and you cannot enter chinese characters without the proper input method.
And while unrelated to this matter, here is a manual fix for viewing japanese characters on WM 6.5 I had to make a few days ago:
1. Grab the files meiryo.ttc and meiryob.ttc from your PC's font folder (C:\Windows\Fonts), provided it has them (Vista or newer, I'm not sure about XP)
2. Copy them to your HTC HD2 (or if it doesn't work, copy them somewhere else on your PC then on your HD2)
3. Move them on your HD2 to the \Windows\Fonts folder
4. Use the following registry file (copy-paste in notepad, save as .reg on your device, execute):
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SkipTable]
"Tahoma"="00a5,007e,0391-03c9,2026,2116,221a,25a0-25ff"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink]
"Arial"="\\Windows\\fonts\\meiryo.ttc,Meiryo"
"Times New Roman"="\\Windows\\fonts\\meiryo.ttc,Meiryo"
"Courier New"="\\Windows\\fonts\\meiryo.ttc,Meiryo"
"Segoe Condensed"="\\Windows\\fonts\\meiryo.ttc,Meiryo"
"HelveticaNeue LT 35 Thin"="\\Windows\\fonts\\meiryo.ttc,Meiryo;\\windows\\tahoma.ttf,Tahoma"
"Helvetica Neue OTS"="\\Windows\\fonts\\meiryo.ttc,Meiryo;\\windows\\tahoma.ttf,Tahoma"
"Tahoma"="\\Windows\\fonts\\meiryo.ttc,Meiryo"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontPath]
"FontPath"="\\Windows\\Fonts"
5. Soft-reset your HTC HD2
Then japanese characters should show up everywhere and be linked correctly.
inputting chinese is not what he asked. that is related to ezinput and another ballgame. rhats funny that the sunglobe patch i have CAN do both chinese and japanese. so dont have to confuse the person who requested for it.
does anyone have the link to the sunglobe cab? i tried to find it but couldn't....

Maybe you didn't try hard enough.... a simple search of "sunglobe cab" in Google turned up quite a few results.
This link shows how to display Korean on the phone (I can confirm it works).

I am pretty sure you can substitute the Korean font for Chinese.
thanks i found the sunglobe cab, just waiting to test it out now

I read in the CooTek TouchPal forum about users complaint that the current version 4 has got a problem with Chinese input if the phone is running WM 6.5.
My suggestion is to read my post with regards to Traditional/Simplified Chinese input, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=647307

Thats not true... I have both on my phone and its fine... but I use the ricky Chinese cab thats floating around somewhere... the 21mb version gives me full Chinese reading, sogou gives me a great ime (and i also have plumsip and touchpal but got rid of the A4 as it didnt work so well for me) and with the ricky cab I also get China PRC in my regional settings... before I would only get this with CE Star which I havent put on my phone as the others all do a better more finger friendly job...

Multilinguage ICS advice

Hello guys. I was recently given a MT4G Slide to flash with any custom ROM (preferably ICS), with key criteria being stability and availability of various languages (not just keyboard, but change the whole OS). The phone will be used in Russia, therefore that's the language that needs to be added. I did look at most ROMS and no one really specifies which languages if any are in the ROM. I assume most slim ROMs don't have anything other then basic english/spanish. I wanted to ask if anyone with good stable ICS ROM can check if they have the Russian in the language selection menu. I understand it will be hard to come by as this is a US-only variant, but has hoping that many one of the cooks used stock google with multiple languages pre-installed.
Also, how hard would it be to remap the hardware keyboard or has anyone seen or knows where to purchase cyrilic keyboard for the device? Thanks for any info anyone can provide.

Hi there!
I've already adopted the keyboard for russian locale. I'll provide you some instructions a bit later, when I'll be at my home computer. I use Russian Keyboard app with Virtuos Infinity beta1 mod, and I like it a lot - it supports custom layouts via xml, language toggle with sym button, and some other perks. Stay tuned
Sent from my myTouch 4G Slide using xda app-developers app
First of all, this is the wrong section for creating this kind of threads.
CyanogenMod (CM 9.1) supports all bunch of languages including Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic, many Asian languages and a lot more.
SKAm69, CM out-of-the-box does not support localization of the hardware keyboard - a third party app is needed for that. As for UI translation, I personally prefer English UI anyway.
So... here we go.
The archive includes: keychars/keylayouts - put it to corresponding folder in /system/usr and fix permissions (root is a must!), xml file for RuKeyboard and xls table to understand which letter goes where. Everything is made and tested on an ICS rom.
I usually switch languages with single press of the sym button, shift+sym does the symbol selection popup, alt+sym gives the smiles popup window.
www./com button is mapped as a tab, alt+www. gives a "www." input, shift+www. calls web popup window.
Every keymap can be customized using these files - just lurk a little bit and make a try.

Only English and Chinese on HTC 8X ...

Hello, I have always visited the forum ... but now I can not find the solution.
Shop by ebay htc 8x and only include 3 languages. Viewing forums, several have this problem, but others do not ... I guess it's the rom.
This is the response from HTC:
Because of previous agreements with Microsoft, the language change option is not available for models like 8 x therefore confirm the language is recommended prior to purchase, we are sorry but you can not change the language, this option is not available.
Also if you can check directly with microsoft support so you can verify if they have any option to change the language as they developed the computer's operating system.
Any solutions?
Sorry for my English, I speak spanish. Use google translator
Windows Phone 8 supports many languages but if your ROM does not contain the language you wanted, there is no way I know of can install on to it. Basically, that is a carrier phone and the particular carrier don't want to pay extra for language packs that will not be used in their market.
See if you can find another ROM to flash that do include the language but also compatible with your particular model.

[Q] How can I install / remove a system language pack on SM-G386W

Hello everybody,
First off I'd like to thank all the developers and contributors to this Forum, you're doing a great job :good:. Although this is my first post, I've been following this forum for a while now and learned lots of good things.
Now the problem...
I have a Samsung Galaxy Core LTE (SM-G386W) from Fido Canada. It only came with 5 default system languages (English, French, Korean, Chinese and one more - don't really know what it is) and I'd like to know if it's possible to install others. I bought this phone for someone that doesn't understand/speak any of the languages above, I'd like to enable/install Romanian language pack.
Phone is rooted. I tried already a bunch of apps such as Language Enabler but the results aren't satisfactory, a few app names and messages get translated but the menus stay in English. Besides when I go to Language and input menu, it shows me Romanian (Romania) selected but if I press on it, the drop down list still only shows the original 5 languages I can chose from. Therefore I assume the enabling is not permanent nor complete.
I also tried flashing a ROM from the similar model in Europe (SM-G386F) but it didn't go through.
Any ideas anyone?
Thank you.
Hi mceuca
i have the same problem with the exact model phone.
How did you solve your issue?

Huawei assistant today

Hello, just looking for some guidance on how to change the language on today feed page on P40 pro.
New with this phone and doesn't matter how I try too change still showing in arabic (I'm leaving in the ME, but the phone is set as US and English), even on Microsoft news shows normal in english (underwood that the feed comes from MS news).
Any Information and help appreciate.
thank you

Where did you buy the phone or what region is the ROM? I ask as i know if you have a Chinese version, then whatever you do, the assistant is in Chinese. May be its the same with yours and that you have an Aribic version. If so, i doubt if you can change it. I couldn't on my Chinese version.
