[Q] 4g disappeard - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

yesterday i flashed 23.0.A.2.93, to root and get recovery. when the flash was finished and it reboot, my 4g was gone, and i only got edge. i live in the woods, but i had 4g before. when i went to town, the E changed to H, but still slow, and no 4g. now i've flashed back to 23.1.A.1.28 (modded CE1) and still no 4g. why is this, and what can i do to fix this? i have the right APN

Did you check to make sure 4G is enabled? You can press the 4G switch from the quick settings menu or go into the settings app and then under Wireless and Networks ...More >Mobile Networks > Preferred Network type. Perhaps you have WCDMA (preferred/GSM selected, in which case you won't see the 4G icon come up even if you're in a 4G area. Switch to 4G (preferred/WCDMA/GSM and after a few minutes, your phone should switch to 4G. If it doesn't then tap on Network Operators and see if your network has a 4G signal in your area. You'll see an entry for each available 2G, 3G and 4G signal.
You can also change the preferred network type from the service menu. Dial *#*#SERVICE#*#* and then tap on Network Mode.
Hope that helps.
SF

it was on "WCDMA (preferred)/GSM", changed to "LTE (preferred)/WCDMA/GSM", now i have LTE, but thats not the same as 4g right? *#*#SERVICE#*#* > service settings the "Network Mode" option is grey and it says "N/A"

Suddenly, it started with 4g again, thanks

Thunderbolt not connecting to 3G in non-LTE 4G areas?

After doing a manual root, the Thunderbolt connects to LTE fine but when there is no LTE, the 3G won't connect and the phone doesn't receive data.
Advice?
Try checking to make sure you are not in LTE only mode. Dial *#*#4636#*#*, select phone information, scroll down and go down and make sure you are on the CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto option and not LTE mode.
If that doesn't work, try downloading "reset connections" from the android market and running that app when you enter a 3g area out of 4g range. It may be a handoff issue from 4g to 3g towers.
##778# hit dial, edit mode, password is 000000, modem settings, Rev. A, change to enabled, instead of eHRPD, hit menu, commit changes.
try 3G again.
I assume like me, you are in a section where Verizon's Hybrid Network isn't working, and so you must tell your phone to revert back to their regular 3G network.
We have 4G in Pittsburgh, but there's a spot in Squirrel Hill that I go through on the bus in the morning where I drop to 1x, and I'm fairly certain that there is 3G there. However, there are other areas I've definitely seen 3G. So, it seems a little mixed. We're definitely early adopters of this new network
The fix
Phone ##778, edit mode, 000000, modem parms, REV-A change from ePHRD to enabled, menu, commit, reboot, problem fixed.
seems to have worked for me. I was having a problem with syncing too, hopefully this fixes that as well. Thank you!

Not to familiar with TB verizon, but friend bought his TB and I saw there was 4GLTE on it, and now nothing, no icon not in wireless networks, nada!
What is this "fix" for?

[Tweak] FORCE 4G with anycut

This is actually on old hack I used from the G1 forum. This is really useful if you are in an area where 4G or 3G is weak and you phone keeps switching back and forth to edge. Very annoying...
Install AnyCut from market
Open AnyCut and click NEW SHORTCUT
Click ACTIVITY
Scroll down to "Phone Info" and select that.
I renamed the shortcut "FORCE 4G" but you could name it anything.
Click OK
Now open the shortcut on your home screen, and scroll down to the bar that spans across the whole screen. This is the bar that controls all your network types listed here.
WCDMA preferred - The GSM phone is capable of using both 2G and 3G data communication and when signal strength is low 3G is favored more.
GSM only - The GSM phone is capable of using only 2G data communication. When the 2G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
WCDMA only - The GSM phone is capable of using only 3G data communication. When the 3G signal is too low you get nothing at all. (FORCE 4G!)
GSM auto (PRL) - The GSM phone is capable of using both 2G and 3G data communication and when signal strength is low 2G is favored more. This one is a bit confusing to me since PRL is associated mostly with CDMA technology and not GSM technology.
CDMA auto (PRL) - The CDMA phone is capable of using both 2G and 3G data communication and when signal strength is low 2G is favored more.
CDMA only - The CDMA phone is capable of using only 2G data communication. When the 2G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
EvDo only - The CDMA phone is capable of using only 3G data communication. When the 3G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) - Some phones are equipped with both GSM and CDMA capabilities. This setting appears to just have the phone attempt to stay connected to the data communication type that works the best. (MY FAVORITE ON G2X)
Unknown - If none of the above fit or the phone is acting weird as far as connecting to the carrier, you will see your preferred network type is set to this
Im sure this hack works on all android devices, less options will show for phones w/o that capability.
BetterCut will obviously also work and youll be able to customize an icon for the shortcut
Menu, settings, wireless and networks, mobile networks, network mode, wcdma only.
Won't that do the same thing without all the work?
*#*#4636#*#*
Phone information
Scroll down
Change WCDMA preferred to WCDMA Only
Same thing as well... If youre that desperate for "4g", however, if you lose 4g/3g you lose ALL SERVICE, I believe. I had played with these settings on my n1 last year. In the end, I found WCDMA preferred was the most reliable ;-)

He's talking about changing the hidden menu. There are two menus, if you change it in the non-hidden menu and not on the hidden menu, is different.
This should probably be moved to themes and apps or general. Nothing really developed here, no offense.

This isn't the hidden menu this is just the phone info menu that you can access with *#*#4636#*#*
Thanks! I skirt the edge of society and there are a few ROMs that I really like to use that don't have this option built-in. Bionix has it but CM7/Faux and others do not have the option available from the mobile networks menu. I'm sure it adds to radio life if you set it to stick with the highest signal since the phone won't be switching towers.
I have a post about this in the Q&A section, but have any of you experience the G2X using only 1X or CDMA data frequencies other than 4g?

[Q] cm-10 on Pantech Burst

I have the latest unofficial cm-10 on my Burst. Overall it's great but I am having trouble with Att Lte network. I followed the instructions on the cm-10 porting thread to enable Lte but when phone connects to Lte I have no data. Phone calls work on Lte but no data. Has anyone encountered this problem and found a solution?
AT&T 4G LTE setup
Okay here's what I found out about using 4G LTE on the AT&T network. First of all 4G LTE is not enabled on cm 10 with default settings. You'll have to open settings menu/ wireless and networks/ more/ mobile networks/ Access Point names/ and then check the box for AT&T LTE. Then click back one page and open network selection. Choose GSM WCDMA automatic. Then open menu/ system/ notification drawer/ widgets buttons and enable LTE widget button. Now go to your widget buttons and enable LTE. Now check signal status bar. It should change to 4G if you in a 4G LTE area. You should now be able to use 4G LTE.
I am using it on T-Mobile and I have the same problem that it will not enable 4G LTE. I will check tomorrow when I am @ 4G LTE area.

It is not working for T-mobile 4G LTE. It seem like it disables. Is there any software or radio tweak to get it work?

Sorry if this is too late ... I just saw this thread ....
I made it work for me as follows:
Settings -> More -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names -> Some-APN-Name
Touch the APN that is displayed, and type in a new name for network: fast.t-mobile.com
Go back one page and Select Network Operators
This will take a while to display
Select T-Mobile/LTE
It should register your phone with 4G/LTE
Cheers!!!

Enter *#*#4636#*#* on your dialer, tap Phone Information, scroll down to "Set preferred network type:", and make sure "LTE/GSM auto (PRL)" is selected. (If you're in the US)
Toggle to 3G and then back to LTE after you make sure your APN is correct. I had to do that on mine to get it to grab LTE initially, it's been fine ever since.

[Q] How to make LTE/GSM default?

some time ago i set the phone to LTE in the testing menu to see what LTE networks it could see. it saw them fine but not for the network i use yet.
the thing is ever since then everytime the phone reboots it seems to default back to LTE only. soi have to ga back in to the test menue and set it back to LTE/ GSM to get the signal back.
Help! why is it still doing this and how can i fix it?
Go to Settings, More... under Data usage, Mobile networks, Preferred network type. Make sure the radio button for 3G is selected.
so i cant leave it on 4g preferred? 4g should be coming to my location in the next coulpe weeks so id not want that to be perminant.
or will setting it to 3g reset things?
ooooooh, did as you said rebooted, 3g locked on. sat back to 4g preferred and rebooted, 3g locked on.
yey! thanks, i dont get why it worked but much appreciated.
