Anyone had any success with root on Moto G 4G XT1039? Haven't tried it myself, as I am unsure what to do, especially with no stock rom or custom recovery available as far as I am aware. A little hesitant to try it without advice. About to try the following:
1. Unlock bootloader via Motorola Website
2. Fastboot flash boot recovery (XT1032)
3. Flash SuperSU
Hello,
I'm new here and will follow this with great interest. I'm about to receive mine, supposed to be a XT1039 too.
Keep up.

From what I've read, there is no 100% working recovery for the xt1039 - I *booted* from the xt1045 recovery to install the SuperSU.zip, and it worked absolutely fine on my xt1039. Just run "fastboot boot recovery recovery.img"
have you came across this thread? the custom recovery won't work but you will be rooted...

I installed the GPE, and then foolishly did a wipe of my phone.
I have the TeamWin Recovery installed on the phone when I do fastboot.
However I have tried installing the stock UK ROM for Moto G but it's not letting me install due to 'downgrade'
Now I have a Moto G without any OS installed.
What ROM can I install and how??
If you have still recovery installed then you can install CyanogenMod 11 latest nightly.

Download MotoTools in the original development section along with any firmware in the development section and follow the instructions from that post.
If you flash the latest 4.4.4 firmware image for Retail UK you will have no problems. The downgrade message is occurring because you are flashing 4.4.2 or older.
4.4.4 firmware image available here:

So I am on pure stock Lollipop 5.0.2 for Moto G, and I need to root it to flash custom CM12.1 builds.
Can someone please guide me on unlocking the bootloader and doing other stuff on Moto G running lollipop?

Well first of all you don't need to root your phone to install cm12. What you have to do is unlock your boot loader (check Motorola's website) then flash a custom recovery such as TWRP and flash the ROM with g-apps. Will make a quick guide later today if you need it.
I need help, i had cm12.1 working on my moto g 2014, and due to some problems i flashed it agian, it did not boot, so i had stock kitkat, i flashed it with twrp and it was working, now i had twrp, but due to my foolishness i flashed cm12.1 recovery, now i cant flash stock roms i don't know why in cm recovery, and my device doesn't boot, how can i install twrp again so that i can put stock?? Or is my phone done for? Is there any solution?
Hi there,
Thanks for using XDA Assist.
Do you have the Moto g 2014 or Moto g 2014 LTE?
How can I flash a TextNow Moto E (2015 2nd gen) phone from TextNow's custom ROM to the stock ROM for Sprint?
Are there any step-by-step instructions for a first-time flasher? And where can I obtain a copy of the stock ROM for Sprint (Boost or Virgin should also be okay.)
Thank You
First you would need to unlock the bootloader in order to flash the stock ROM.
After that you would need to install a custom recovery to make the installation process easier.
I guess you could easily find the stock ROM and the recovery easily for moto e.(google)

Thanks.
Wouldn't the bootloader be unlocked already since TextNow installed their custom ROM? How can I check the bootloader's lock status and unlock it if necessary?
How do I obtain and install the custom recovery?
