[Q] Moto G 4G XT1039 Root - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone had any success with root on Moto G 4G XT1039? Haven't tried it myself, as I am unsure what to do, especially with no stock rom or custom recovery available as far as I am aware. A little hesitant to try it without advice. About to try the following:
1. Unlock bootloader via Motorola Website
2. Fastboot flash boot recovery (XT1032)
3. Flash SuperSU

Hello,
I'm new here and will follow this with great interest. I'm about to receive mine, supposed to be a XT1039 too.
Keep up.

2. Fastboot flash TWRP recovery (Should I do XT1032 or XT1045 recovery - I've seen posts suggest both but noone has confirmed??)
3. Flash SuperSU

From what I've read, there is no 100% working recovery for the xt1039 - I *booted* from the xt1045 recovery to install the SuperSU.zip, and it worked absolutely fine on my xt1039. Just run "fastboot boot recovery recovery.img"

have you came across this thread? the custom recovery won't work but you will be rooted...

Please post if you get recovery working or not. I have U.S. Moto G XT1031 and waiting for 4.4.4 update. I don't want to update if I can't re-root. Thanks and good luck!

i have also facing this problem, because
Moto G xt1033 in india which comes with 4.4.4 out of the box.
how to fix it.
use latest recovery. flash cwm iff twrp is not working. recovery has nothing to do with baseband, it will load irrespective of it. try going into recovery via adb or via fastboot.

I flashed all recoveries but every recovery shows blank screen. And are you sure that baseband isn't respinsible?

Dude. Mototool does flashing things automatically. If I can flash manually why do I need mototool. I don't like to use these tools. I have flashed recovery bro but can't access it. This problem is with everyone with 4.4.4 out of the box :/

You have to be complete stock, no root, stock recovery and kernel.
Unrooting and flashing the stock recovery and kernel will NOT work,
you will need to flash the 4.4.4 firmware first.

I did flash it to stock ROM but still it showed signature verification failed and some root error. BTW I still have cwm not the original recovery !!
well apparently you dont clearly read the guides, you cant install official updates with custom recovery, you need everything original stock and no root. read the guides first before posting

Get the recovery.img and run "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" from bootloader mode.
Do it at your own risk^^^
everything worked perfectly
I flashed recovery as u advised me then did everything which was suggested in the original thread the only problem was recovery stock recovery is pretty tricky thing to open I had to press volume up for 9 sec for 10th sec the power button at the same time and it worked
Thnx everyone I really appreciate it
Moto G XT1034 4.4.4 to 5.0.2 update problem
I received Lollipop OTA notification for my XT1034 today (Retail Canada) and I downloaded and installed it but the phone got stuck at Motorola logo. I waited for about 45 mins on this screen but got desperate and turned it off (hard reset)
Tried to enter recovery and still it says Bootloader 41.13, tried to wipe cache partition and completed the process but after reboot it gets stuck at logo again, please help!

how to root Moto G 4G android 5.1

hi.
I have successfully unlocked the bootloader on my moto G 4G (LTE) or XT1039 that has been upgraded to android 5.1
But using old procedure to root it(for android 4.4.4), i doesn't work. I have tried with booting twrp (for the xt1032) and it gets stuck at the motorola logo it displays when shutting down. So it doesn't reboot.
I tried the twrp for xt1032. And it's the same.
I tried twrp for the moto titan but this time seems to become dead. But it's ok to reboot it
I tried the chainfire CAFR autoroot dot chainfire dot eu but the red android never show up and it jsut reboots as normal.
I don't want to flash a custom recovery or a custom rom. I just want to root it. That's why I have unlocked the booloader in the first place.
Anyone got a working solution ?
Is it garanteed it will work with a custom recovery ? and flash a custom rom ?

Sorry for the noise but one of these method in fact DID work because I have now root, as I have just discovered by surprise. Could someone delete this thread.

Question about root?

Ok so I have a noob question. I have a boost mobile moto g 2013 xt1031 running lolli 5.1 and have unlocked the boot loader. Now want to root and install custom rom. Does phone have to be rooted first or can you do this all at the same time. Can I please get a step by step guide that explanes this process dont want to play guessing game.
1. unlock bootloader
2. install a custom recovery via fastboot
3. install a custom ROM via custom recovery
Only if your custom ROM doesn't include root:
4. install a root package
I seem to be having problems finding a recovery that will work with my xt1031 only one for version xt 1032.
I have an XT1031 and can confirm both of three are compatable. The link below is for the non-themed TWRP version.
