I do believe altering the IMEI in any device is illegal unless it's done by the manufacturer, from what it sounds like the Blackberry IMEI is blacklisted and you'd like to copy over the good IMEI of the Nokia? Either way it's illegal.

He did not ask for legal advise or opinions, just how to change the IMEI on his personal property. We are not slaves to the state here., nor will we become such.

[Q] Still hoping for an IMEI fix

Hi All,
I was one of the unlucky ones that lost my IMEI recently due to corrupt efs folder without any backup after flashing a ROM. My phone still works fine but I'm concerned about the default IMEI being blocked and any other effects of losing the files in the efs folder.
I had my phone imported from the US by a friend so returning it or sending to a Samsung service center is not an option because there are none that deal with phones in my country.
As a non Linux user and non-developer I have tried everything within my knowledge and spent hours searching the Internet to no avail. To resolve this issue we really need the help of an experienced developer.
So my questions is:
Is anyone still working on a solution? I'm sure there are still quite a few people that would really appreciate your help.
Thanks!
Only samsung have a box to generate a correct efs folder... Stop looking for a solution, not exist. There are people working for fix in a Galaxy S for a year ago and have no solution
Sorry but this is the reality (And I'm in the same situation than you, I was bought my Nexus the past december in US and I live in spain...)
Enjoy your phone while works... I will do
Try sending it to Samsung for warranty repair (restore using Odin first though or they might not work on your modified device).
Won't work...in order to fix this issue, I even made some friends with the guys in Samsung Service Center here in China. They only have Odin for each device...If I were an American, maybe things could be easier. As far as I heard, the Riff Box cannot even fix this.

i still hope that in the development section are only dev posts! :O
There is a reason we have rules on this forum...
Restoring an IMEI is illegal in some countries, changing it in most, that's why there's no real solution for this problem.

Yes, in some countries it is. Just not sure if that includes Austria.

Questions belong in Q&A. Thread closed.
Also, talk of IMEI hacking is not allowed here. While this particular case isn't agaisnt the law, the solution, if one existed, would allow others to break the law.

Restored lost IMEI

Just wanted to share my experience of restoring IMEI which I've lost couple of months ago after following an unbricking instructions from this forum.
This may be a bit disappointing for those of you who are looking for a way to repair it ourselves, so to cut the long story short - I've brought my phone to the Samsung service and they've fixed this in 10 minutes for free!
I did flash some custom firmware and kernels several times, had a yellow triangle and did quite a few other fancy things with my phone. But eventually the phone just died on its own, although being on almost stock firmware and kernel. Unlucky for me I was not in the country where I bought it and I didn't have any warranty documents at all. Few weeks later I've found this repair instruction - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528256 and was able to revive the phone. Almost... if not counting that IMEI was reset to the default one, which is blocked by all UK carriers.
Finally, a few days ago I came to Russia, reset the yellow triangle, flashed the stock firmware, grabbed warranty documents and headed to the Samsung service center, preparing myself for a long wait and being afraid that they won't fix it until I have to go back to the UK, which would be very disappointing. I've seen stories that service centers can't fix IMEI and just replace the main board.
And I can't express how much I was excited when I was told they can simply re-set the IMEI and it'll take just 10 minutes! All completely for free!
Can you by any method get hold of any guy at the service center & ask him how did they do it ?
They surely would have a software program or tool with which they get it done. If you can get that tool / program by any chance it would help a lot of Galaxy R users world wide & no one will ever stop thanking you.
So I request you to at least try but with care.
my friend owns a SSC, he have said there is a software which re-programs IMEI number to device and also require some hardware to do that (maybe JTAG). and with that software we can re-write EFS partion to all samsung devices and its not limited to galaxy R
but unfortunately they cant leak it as samsung have warned to not to leak this to public.

If there were such software that they could give out it would be already available for download. I'm pretty sure the main reason why it can't be distributed is that it can change IMEI which is illegal in many countries and makes ineffective the standard anti-theft measure of blocking certain IMEI numbers by mobile carriers.
If you're really interested, there are a few guys who offer remote IMEI repair using TeamView and some other software such as remote USB client. They do this for money so they surely won't just tell you all their secrets, but you can try. I suspect there is some hardware involved. For example, try contacting this person - http://forum.samdroid.net/members/cvxcvx/

Cant change Meid...

OK so I made it my project today to actually switch my boost account over to my verizon S3. im tech savvy but im at my wits end, and im very ****ing frustrated at this point. i never ask for help.
The only problem im having is changing both the ESN, and MEID. I have tried DFS. CDMA workshop 2.7, QXDM, etc.
In DFS, it looks like it saves, but upon reading right after writing, it has been reverted.
Calling from the SIII gives boost error " Message 5, switch 182"
Do I need the 16 digit pwd to change esn through CDMA? how would I get that if so?
Any help is greatly appreciated. I have tried just about everything it feels like...
I'm pretty sure nobody on xda is allowed to help you in regards to changing the ESN.

I have no opinion on this subject nor do I care to. However my thinking goes more along the lines of preventing the use of this site as a means to clone phones. Example: if someone retrieves a stolen/lost phone and there's a maintained guide on xda detailing how to clone or modify that ESN to work, that could get the site in trouble I would presume. I am not equating or remotely suggesting the OP is doing this but the provided example conflicts with rule 9.
That's all my opinion.
Edit: And I'll just add this here as exhibit A and exhibit b.
Yup no bad intentions here, I already broke the old phone. just happy with voice and text.
I have seen a post online about this guy straight up admitting that he was wanting to clone his wifes phone becuase she cheated on him. doing stuff like that should be illegal. and I understand peoples point of view on the subject. I dont take it to heart because I just want my phone back. the donor phone I used had an unusable screen, and the fact that I got it activated was only because the customer service rep told me exactly what keys to press when the menus were supposed to appear.
Regardless of bad intentions or not. XDA doens't allow discussion of changing meid, IMEI, etc. The reason is its very simple to not only use the same techniques on stolen devices or get around provider limitations. Both can get us in trouble. Thread locked

How to send my phone thief a text and pull their imei?

I am sure I know how and where my stolen is. I lost it at this location where it was stolen. Then a few months pass and it pops up in the hands of the owner of the location business it was stolen at.
I haven't grabbed the phone from the guy but I know he is using his old number, he said his other phone was stolen.
How do I some how send a message to the phone to determine it's imei number?
I have the IMEI number of my phone and want to track it to be 100% sure it is in fact my phone.
He may of used the IMEI from his old phone.
How should I approach this situation?
Thanks
Well the best case would be if you have any documents that proofs the imei belongs to you.
Sending a ping message to the specific imei device depends on the phone company. Like my samsung it has this service, fot example I can lock the device remotely and iphones can even be even located.

Unfortunately you havent registered/configured your phone for the service, but you still can give a try at the customer service on this website: http://findmymobile.samsung.com/
this is the best what i can do for you.
good luck
and tell us afterwards if you are successful or not :good:
Okay so what's this samsung crap about? That's the stupidest thing ever, the first thing a smart thief does is turn the phone off. Then they wipe the nand and reinstall a fresh os completely. There's absolutely 0% chance any COMPLETE IDIOT would ever try and use the pre-existing operating system. So I need to determine where it is via the IMEI...
I lost my Moto G4 plus on 5th March during a marriage ceremony. How can I send a ping message.I have registered a police complaint to cyber police.

Question about IMEI change

Hi, I got this case and I need to solve a doubt I have.
I've received a phone to unlock for all carriers... The person has proof of purchase and original box with IMEI printed on it. The phone shows a different IMEI, and it's rooted. When I asked if someone has seen it already, they said yes, but they didn't take it there for that..
The question is... I'm thinking about restoring the original IMEI (legally owns it) with Xposed. Is this OK? Every method to change IMEI I found is "illegal" but this is not the case. I want to restore the IMEI that belongs to this phone.
I hope someone can clear the air for me on this one..
Cheers

Greetings,
Using xposed to spoof the IMEI is legal but changing IMEI is illegal so we can't discuss it on xda. Any method to actually change it to the original could be used for other purposes as well.
Thanks for understanding
