I am sure I know how and where my stolen is. I lost it at this location where it was stolen. Then a few months pass and it pops up in the hands of the owner of the location business it was stolen at.
I haven't grabbed the phone from the guy but I know he is using his old number, he said his other phone was stolen.
How do I some how send a message to the phone to determine it's imei number?
I have the IMEI number of my phone and want to track it to be 100% sure it is in fact my phone.
He may of used the IMEI from his old phone.
How should I approach this situation?
Thanks
Well the best case would be if you have any documents that proofs the imei belongs to you.
Sending a ping message to the specific imei device depends on the phone company. Like my samsung it has this service, fot example I can lock the device remotely and iphones can even be even located.

Unfortunately you havent registered/configured your phone for the service, but you still can give a try at the customer service on this website: http://findmymobile.samsung.com/
this is the best what i can do for you.
good luck
and tell us afterwards if you are successful or not :good:
Okay so what's this samsung crap about? That's the stupidest thing ever, the first thing a smart thief does is turn the phone off. Then they wipe the nand and reinstall a fresh os completely. There's absolutely 0% chance any COMPLETE IDIOT would ever try and use the pre-existing operating system. So I need to determine where it is via the IMEI...
I lost my Moto G4 plus on 5th March during a marriage ceremony. How can I send a ping message.I have registered a police complaint to cyber police.

Flashing a ROM does not change the IMEI.
I sympathise with you.
I pray the police will catch up with the thief very soon. They have done so before.
File a report with the coppers so the SN or IME will go out on the stolen property lists to the pawn shops. Then you and your friends need to check craigslist hourly looking for your phone. Have one of your friends go meet him and check the phone. Also run a local search by zip code for your phone in ebay. If any come up that look suspicious like yours contact ebay with your concerns. They will make him provide a serial number or ime for the phone or they will freeze their account. While ebay may not be able to get your phone back, they can sure as hell freeze his account and make his life a living hell. Happened to a friend. He bought a warehouse a couple years back and in the attic there were about 25 SIP phones. He sold them all for like $50-$100. After selling them all ebay emailed him asking for receipts for hte phones. Since he found them in the building he just bought he didn't have them. They froze $700 in his paypal account for 6 months then released it.
thanks for your advices..
i have my phone backed up. that is the good thing. the good thing is also that IMEI is hard to change. in the moment when the thief will insert the SIM, the police will be informed. the bad thing is, that the thief is looking for charger probably...
So how is it now? Did you have your phone already?
Did the police made it? hmm you must be very careful with your valuables nest time so it won't happen again.
Anyways, what is IMEI? What does it do?

Searching for that would have led you to this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Mobile_Equipment_Identity
Hi All,
I was one of the unlucky ones that lost my IMEI recently due to corrupt efs folder without any backup after flashing a ROM. My phone still works fine but I'm concerned about the default IMEI being blocked and any other effects of losing the files in the efs folder.
I had my phone imported from the US by a friend so returning it or sending to a Samsung service center is not an option because there are none that deal with phones in my country.
As a non Linux user and non-developer I have tried everything within my knowledge and spent hours searching the Internet to no avail. To resolve this issue we really need the help of an experienced developer.
So my questions is:
Is anyone still working on a solution? I'm sure there are still quite a few people that would really appreciate your help.
Thanks!
Only samsung have a box to generate a correct efs folder... Stop looking for a solution, not exist. There are people working for fix in a Galaxy S for a year ago and have no solution
Sorry but this is the reality (And I'm in the same situation than you, I was bought my Nexus the past december in US and I live in spain...)
Enjoy your phone while works... I will do
Try sending it to Samsung for warranty repair (restore using Odin first though or they might not work on your modified device).
Won't work...in order to fix this issue, I even made some friends with the guys in Samsung Service Center here in China. They only have Odin for each device...If I were an American, maybe things could be easier. As far as I heard, the Riff Box cannot even fix this.

There is a reason we have rules on this forum...
Restoring an IMEI is illegal in some countries, changing it in most, that's why there's no real solution for this problem.

Also, talk of IMEI hacking is not allowed here. While this particular case isn't agaisnt the law, the solution, if one existed, would allow others to break the law.
OK so I made it my project today to actually switch my boost account over to my verizon S3. im tech savvy but im at my wits end, and im very ****ing frustrated at this point. i never ask for help.
The only problem im having is changing both the ESN, and MEID. I have tried DFS. CDMA workshop 2.7, QXDM, etc.
In DFS, it looks like it saves, but upon reading right after writing, it has been reverted.
Calling from the SIII gives boost error " Message 5, switch 182"
Do I need the 16 digit pwd to change esn through CDMA? how would I get that if so?
Any help is greatly appreciated. I have tried just about everything it feels like...
I'm pretty sure nobody on xda is allowed to help you in regards to changing the ESN.

I have no opinion on this subject nor do I care to. However my thinking goes more along the lines of preventing the use of this site as a means to clone phones. Example: if someone retrieves a stolen/lost phone and there's a maintained guide on xda detailing how to clone or modify that ESN to work, that could get the site in trouble I would presume. I am not equating or remotely suggesting the OP is doing this but the provided example conflicts with rule 9.
That's all my opinion.
Edit: And I'll just add this here as exhibit A and exhibit b.
Yup no bad intentions here, I already broke the old phone. just happy with voice and text.
I have seen a post online about this guy straight up admitting that he was wanting to clone his wifes phone becuase she cheated on him. doing stuff like that should be illegal. and I understand peoples point of view on the subject. I dont take it to heart because I just want my phone back. the donor phone I used had an unusable screen, and the fact that I got it activated was only because the customer service rep told me exactly what keys to press when the menus were supposed to appear.
Regardless of bad intentions or not. XDA doens't allow discussion of changing meid, IMEI, etc. The reason is its very simple to not only use the same techniques on stolen devices or get around provider limitations. Both can get us in trouble. Thread locked
Cheers
i recently got a 64gb s6 from a friend. i popped my sim card in and its working great. however, the phone was reported lost and the imei now says blacklisted on Verizon. Im pretty sure that once i take my sim out of the phone, it will never work on the Verizon netork again. my question is, i usually at night reboot my phone. if i turn this phone off, will it stop working??

I don't believe so since you already have an active sim. Yet I've never used a black listed device so I'm not positive

The phone itself will continue to work but will NEVER again, EVER work on ANY providers network... It's garbage. IMEI blacklist is worldwide, cannot be removed from the list once it's added but the phone could still be used as a WiFi PDA. It's rare for a phone to be IMEI blacklisted by a provider unless it's specifically requested because if you find the phone, even if you own it and reported it stolen, it cannot be un-blacklisted.
P.S. Your buddy screwed you! Go kick his ass, if it's been stolen from the provider and you use the WiFi, the provider will find it, and the popo will come to get it, and you...possession is 9/10's of the law remember

One more thing, your buddy probably reported it lost for insurance, and the insurer always blacklists a lost phone before they issue a new phone under the policy.
The lesson here: buy your phone from a provider or manufacturer legit, or risk losing your money and possibly your freedom for a bit cuz you saved a couple hundred bucks buying from a booster.

Now if the Mods should ban anything it should be you all for making XDA a place where people hate to ask for help!!
So let me apologize @mcnu on the behalf of XDA an say we welcome your question an we're glad your using XDA as a source of knowledge.. I know your not the only one that has bought a phone only to find that it has been blacklist an I do know you can have the phone removed from the blacklist but it is not something that can be done over night and you will need the person that had it blacklisted to request it to me lifted.. Now if for some reason he had it blacklisted to file a insurance claim, I'm afraid you will be out of the money you paid for the device.. So my advice is to contact the person that reported lost and ask him if he filed a claim an if he didn't ask if he wouldn't mind to request it to be lifted on the grounds of the phone has been found....
I hope this help and good luck.

If the seller reported it as lost/stolen then he did commit FRAUD. There is NO other way to state it.
Why don't you concentrate on a current topic and help someone rather than trolling in old threads where the conversation was to the point and accurate based on the OP's posting's.

I can send a lot of screenshot from my unlocked phone. Why I'm so ungry for $15. I lost totaly $500 for this phone. So $15 is not important for me. I can paid another $15 for permanent unlock my phone.

Because they aren't a true professional shop, they are someone that does this from their home. They don't care about whether your phone works, they only care about getting paid and they didn't do the right thing because they didn't want to pay for messing your device up because they don't have a true business like a true professional would.
That's what you get for trying to save money to get it done and trusting someone that you found on the internet instead of taking your device to a trusted and reputable professional shop, you get what you pay for, it's your own fault for being stupid enough to trust someone you found online.
You made a bad decision and now you're paying the price, get over it, move on and learn a lesson from it. Posting here isn't changing anything.

Regarding the Note 5, the phone can be restored to factory conditions by downloading Samsung Kies. Once downloaded fire up the software, select "tools" followed by "firmware upgrade and initialisation". Then connect your phone and the software will download all the necessary files, including the latest updates. I know this because they screwed my phone's IMEI during a unlock process, probably hoping they would squeeze more money out of me for a IMEI repair. Kies solved my IMEI problem, and their unlock wasn't affected by the Kies update (their unlock worked). These are unsavoury people who had access to my computer and phone while they carried out their half a job. Hindsight is a wonderful thing....
